we think of Christmas, we think of flickering candles and warm, colorful Christmas lights. 00:02:18.599 --> 00:02:19.219 In the dark. 00:02:19.960 --> 00:02:24.019 But today we see that Jesus didn't come to be comfortable moonlighting for us. 00:02:24.599 --> 00:02:26.439 Jesus came to flip on the main switch. 00:02:26.780 --> 00:02:30.799 He came as light flooding a dark world with absolute 00:09:21.720 --> 00:09:23.379 Jesus came also as God, 00:09:23.480 --> 00:09:24.980 the author of reality, 00:09:25.220 --> 00:09:27.440 the one who was and is and is to come, 00:09:27.600 --> 00:26:37.279 --> 00:26:38.539 He was someone who committed murder. 00:26:39.500 --> 00:26:40.519 He was a dangerous guy. 00:26:40.740 --> 00:26:44.960 So given these options, you couldn't stack the so at Pilate's command, they force Jesus to carry his own cross to a place named Calvary. 00:30:22.059 --> 00:30:29.139 And just hours after they say, give us Brabus, they nail Jesus to a cross and kill him. 00:30:29.140 --> 00:30:36.540 But remember what Jesus said in verse 37, he came to bear witness to the truth. 00:30:36.539 --> 00:30:40.920 And when Jesus died, he didn't fail in his mission. 00:30:41.879 --> 00:30:45.240 Rather, the cross is the pinnacle of God's revelation. 00:30:45.240 --> 00:30:49.859 This is when Jesus finished his mission of bearing witness to the truth. 00:30:50.079 --> 00:30:55.839 On the cross, we see most clearly the truth of God's grace towards undeserving sinners. 00:30:56.640 --> 00:31:01.480 On the cross, Jesus bore witness to the truth by his blood, by his life shed for us. 00:31:02.180 --> 00:31:07.019 And on the cross, he showed, he proved four absolute truths, four absolute realities. 00:31:07.019 --> 00:31:11.859 First, the cross shows the truth that sin is serious. 00:31:12.559 --> 00:31:18.660 There's an instinct in our hearts, in the human heart that wants to work and earn and prove that we're good enough. 00:31:19.039 --> 00:31:23.680 But the cross says, no, if we could save ourselves, Jesus wouldn't have to die. 00:31:24.099 --> 00:31:28.879 The fact that Jesus came to die proves that we're all sinners and we can do nothing to save ourselves. 00:31:28.880 --> 00:31:38.060 The truth is that Jesus died in our place, taking the punishment that we deserve for a sin so that everyone who calls on his name may be forgiven. 00:31:39.620 --> 00:31:42.800 The cross also shows the truth that God loves us. 00:31:43.480 --> 00:31:47.600 Jesus came to seek and save the lost, even when we wanted nothing to do with 00:32:37.299 He is my son. 00:32:37.559 --> 00:32:38.700 He's my beloved son. 00:32:39.580 --> 00:32:43.819 The resurrection proves that Jesus is who he said he was, that he is the son of God.
