00:10:28.920 --> 00:10:30.080 Do you want to be healed? 00:10:31.100 --> 00:10:33.960 And the guy hasn't even figured out who he's talking to 00:10:33.960 --> 00:10:36.120 or who's in front of him or what is needed. 00:10:36.240 --> 00:10:38.680 He says, yeah, yeah, yeah, well, I can't get down to the pool. 00:10:38.759 --> 00:10:40.340 And Jesus says, take up your bed and walk. 00:10:40.360 --> 00:10:41.000 And the guy does. 00:10:41.159 --> 00:10:42.420 He listens to Jesus. 00:10:44.200 --> 00:10:45.620 And so here he is, kind of, 00:10:46.220 --> 00:10:47.360 just imagine this. 00:10:47.360 --> 00:10:53.919 He is walking through the streets of Jerusalem, 00:10:54.519 --> 00:10:56.220 carrying his bed with him, 00:10:56.659 --> 00:10:58.500 and there are Pharisees who are saying, 00:10:58.759 --> 00:11:01.620 see that guy? 00:11:02.560 --> 00:11:05.159 Hey, how come you're taking your bed and walking like that? 00:11:05.480 --> 00:11:06.240 And the guy, he says, 00:11:07.279 --> 00:11:09.779 the guy who healed me said, do it. 00:11:11.200 --> 00:11:13.139 I mean, after all, the person who heals you 00:11:13.139 --> 00:11:14.480 has a right to tell you what to do. 00:11:14.539 --> 00:11:15.200 Would you buy that? 00:11:15.200 --> 00:11:17.420 And so here the guy is. 00:11:17.540 --> 00:11:19.560 He's marching down the streets, carrying his bed. 00:11:19.720 --> 00:11:21.840 That was not something you did on the Sabbath. 00:11:22.140 --> 00:11:25.000 And they were kind of really wigged out about this. 00:11:27.680 --> 00:11:29.540 Look at what happens in verse 17. 00:11:31.360 --> 00:11:33.720 Jesus, when he had interaction with them, 00:11:33.759 --> 00:11:35.360 he said, yeah, how come you're telling him 00:11:35.360 --> 00:11:37.060 to carry his bed on the Sabbath? 00:11:37.520 --> 00:11:38.860 You know, and Jesus says, hey, 00:11:39.560 --> 00:11:41.900 my dad's on the clock right now, and I am too. 00:11:41.900 --> 00:11:44.900 I mean, that was just like a slap in their face. 00:11:45.640 --> 00:11:46.300 Do you follow that? 00:11:47.300 --> 00:11:49.240 And so what we read in verse 18 is this. 00:11:49.340 --> 00:11:51.320 It says, this is why the Jews were seeking 00:11:51.320 --> 00:11:52.400 all the more to kill him, 00:11:52.660 --> 00:11:55.000 because not only was he breaking the Sabbath, 00:11:55.200 --> 00:11:56.500 bad thing to do, 00:11:56.879 --> 00:12:02.220 but he was even calling God his own father, 00:12:02.420 --> 00:12:05.300 making him equal to God. 00:12:05.299 --> 00:12:13.240 What we find from chapter 5, verse 19, 00:12:13.459 --> 00:12:16.259 to the end of this chapter, 00:12:17.259 --> 00:12:20.559 is a very careful and pointed response 00:12:20.559 --> 00:12:24.299 that Jesus gives to his religious challengers 00:12:24.299 --> 00:12:28.439 to make it clear that he indeed is the Son of God. 00:12:28.440 --> 00:12:36.400 One of the things that a lot of people seem to believe today 00:12:36.400 --> 00:12:39.400 about Jesus is that, I mean, not people who've come to faith, 00:12:39.500 --> 00:12:40.320 but a lot of people kind of, 00:12:40.540 --> 00:12:43.020 Jesus was a pretty nice guy if he existed at all. 00:12:43.920 --> 00:12:45.200 And he kind of, you know, 00:12:46.580 --> 00:12:48.080 trundled along through life 00:12:48.080 --> 00:12:49.200 and was a little misunderstood, 00:12:49.440 --> 00:12:51.660 but after all, he was really about just doing good things. 00:12:51.659 --> 00:12:55.959 And, you know, he's really not a bad guy to follow 00:12:55.959 --> 00:12:58.019 and model our lives after, 00:12:58.519 --> 00:13:01.100 but he really wasn't into kind of letting people know 00:13:01.100 --> 00:13:02.959 that they had a major problem with sin 00:13:02.959 --> 00:13:04.600 and he came to be the Savior. 00:13:05.879 --> 00:13:07.100 That's not true at all. 00:13:09.079 --> 00:13:14.159 Jesus very intentionally made the issue of his mission clear, 00:13:15.339 --> 00:13:19.100 both to the spiritual leaders of the day 00:13:19.100 --> 00:13:22.540 and to all who would listen. 00:13:22.779 --> 00:13:25.279 And we're going to see that here this morning 00:13:25.279 --> 00:13:27.279 because we have religious leaders 00:13:27.279 --> 00:13:28.279 who come to him and say, 00:13:28.440 --> 00:13:29.700 yeah, and who are you?
