was met by ten lepers who stood at a distance, 00:03:01.180 --> 00:03:03.060 and lifted up their voices, saying, 00:03:03.199 --> 00:03:06.539 Jesus, Master, have mercy on us. 00:03:07.740 --> 00:03:10.759 When he saw them, he said to them, 00:03:10.860 --> 00:03:12.740 Go and show yourself to the priest. 00:03:12.740 --> 00:03:18.920 And as they went, they were cleansed. 00:03:20.100 --> 00:03:23.400 Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, 00:03:24.180 --> 00:03:27.480 turned back, praising God with a loud voice. 00:03:28.219 --> 00:03:31.520 He fell on his face at Jesus' Where are the other nine? 00:04:17.519 --> 00:04:18.420 Where are the nine? 00:04:20.000 --> 00:04:23.480 This encounter to me is revealing, and God has been so good to us, 00:04:23.540 --> 00:04:26.240 we ought to live in response to what God's done for us. 00:04:26.240 --> 00:04:28.860 And how should we do that? 00:04:29.620 --> 00:04:33.500 Well, I believe this encounter gives us They're lepers. 00:05:00.340 --> 00:05:04.720 Mosaic law isolated lepers from social contact. 00:05:05.520 --> 00:05:08.460 They were forbidden to come within six feet of a person. 00:05:08.900 --> 00:05:13.980 If the wind was blowing, they couldn't come within 50 yards of a person. 00:05:14.540 --> 00:05:17.900 And if somebody accidentally approached them, they were to yell, 00:05:18.939 --> do that. 00:05:55.360 --> 00:05:57.819 They suffered from a hideous disease. 00:05:58.600 --> 00:06:01.699 And a very misunderstood disease, as far as that goes. 00:06:01.699 --> 00:06:07.519 Because leprosy appears to be slowly eating the body away. 00:06:07.839 --> 00:06:11.039 It begins by erasing the facial features. 00:06:11.979 --> 00:06:15.579 It moves to the fingers and the hands and the feet. 00:06:15.579 --> 00:06:25.180 And the hands become like frozen claws before they fall off. 00:06:26.180 --> 00:06:30.680 The feet become stumps of sores before falling off. 00:06:30.779 --> 00:06:32.500 The odor is nauseating. 00:06:32.639 --> 00:06:34.979 The appearance is ghastly. 00:06:34.980 --> 00:06:45.160 But Dr. Paul Brand was a man who was, at one time, the world's leading leprosy surgeon. 00:06:46.200 --> 00:06:48.920 He worked as a missionary with lepers. 00:06:49.060 --> 00:06:54.520 And he came to the very important discovery that leprosy was a neuropathy 00:06:54.520 --> 00:06:59.160 that caused people to not feel their extremities. 00:06:59.160 --> 00:07:06.620 Without pain, they would develop sores from bumps and bruises. 00:07:06.820 --> 00:07:07.960 And it would not heal. 00:07:09.580 --> 00:07:12.080 He wrote about that in a book with Philip Yancey. 00:07:12.140 --> 00:07:13.860 He wrote several books with Philip Yancey. went. 00:08:36.659 --> 00:08:38.279 They were still lepers when they left him. 00:08:39.639 --> 00:08:42.980 A leper was not supposed to go to the priest until he was clean, 00:08:43.519 --> 00:08:44.600 until he was healed. 00:08:44.600 --> 00:08:48.740 Yet, once Jesus told them that he would heal them 00:08:48.740 --> 00:08:50.360 and to go to the priest, 00:08:51.060 --> 00:08:55.240 God was healing them as they went to the priest. 00:08:55.960 --> 00:08:57.899 They had to have the confidence and the faith 00:08:57.899 --> 00:09:00.639 that that healing would take place before
