things that are incredibly searching. 00:01:57.519 --> 00:01:59.500 They're going to search your heart. 00:01:59.500 --> 00:02:03.219 He's going to expose something in us all. 00:02:05.019 --> 00:02:06.859 And what you need to know up front is, 00:02:07.280 --> 00:02:10.479 Jesus is not going to call anger a personality quirk. 00:02:12.639 --> 00:02:14.259 And Jesus isn't going to say, 00:02:14.400 --> 00:02:15.860 hey, all of us are human. 00:02:16.080 --> 00:02:17.139 All of us get angry. 00:02:17.379 --> 00:02:19.979 So it's just a common human emotion. 00:02:20.180 --> and whoever murders will be liable to judgment. 00:03:12.319 --> 00:03:14.979 But I say to you 00:03:14.979 --> 00:03:18.979 that everyone who's angry with his brother 00:03:18.979 --> 00:03:20.539 will be liable to judgment. 00:03:20.919 --> 00:03:23.379 Whoever insults his brother 00:03:23.379 --> 00:03:25.039 will be liable to the council. 00:03:25.039 --> 00:03:27.359 And whoever says you 00:04:35.279 is our anger in light of the sixth commandment. 00:04:35.459 --> 00:04:37.659 He has come not to abolish the law, 00:04:37.740 --> 00:04:38.659 but to fulfill it. 00:04:39.459 --> 00:04:40.959 And so he helps us to understand 00:04:40.959 --> 00:04:42.959 the true meaning and scope 00:04:42.959 --> 00:04:44.299 of the sixth commandment. 00:04:45.579 --> 00:04:47.299 He helps us to see our anger 00:04:47.299 --> 00:04:48.339 for what it really is. 00:04:52.799 --> 00:04:54.539 What Jesus is going to do here 00:04:54.539 --> 00:04:56.779 is he's going to expose 00:04:56.779 --> 00:04:58.959 our murderous anger 00:04:58.959 --> 00:05:00.719 and then call us 00:05:00.719 --> 00:05:03.060 to be kingdom peacemakers. 00:05:03.679 --> 00:05:04.879 It's amazing what he does. 00:06:26.139 He is going to... 00:06:26.139 --> 00:06:26.799 He's the king. 00:06:27.739 --> 00:06:29.299 The long-awaited king. 00:06:30.139 --> 00:06:31.239 Son of David. 00:06:31.419 --> 00:06:32.859 The son of Abraham. 00:06:33.699 --> 00:06:35.619 The one in whom God 00:06:35.619 --> 00:06:36.839 is going to bless 00:06:36.839 --> 00:06:39.059 all the nations of the earth. 00:07:25.379 --> 00:07:27.319 is His inaugural address. 00:07:28.639 --> 00:07:31.439 It's Him speaking to His citizens 00:07:31.439 --> 00:07:33.160 and declaring to them, 00:07:33.280 --> 00:07:35.920 this is how you live for me now. 00:07:38.220 --> 00:07:40.600 This is His manifesto of the kingdom. 00:07:40.600 --> 00:07:43.720 And so the Sermon on the Mount, 00:07:43.860 --> 00:07:45.640 what we have in chapters 5, 6, and 7 00:07:45.640 --> 00:07:46.379 is a sermon. 00:07:47.000 --> 00:07:48.379 Last week I tried to show you 00:07:48.379 --> 00:07:49.220 that the Beatitudes 00:07:49.220 --> 00:07:50.379 are the introduction 00:07:50.379 --> 00:07:52.540 and the close of the sermon 00:07:52.540 --> 00:07:54.620 starts in chapter 7, verse 13, 00:07:55.060 --> 00:07:57.020 where He calls us to two ways to live. 00:07:57.100 --> 00:07:58.320 He calls us to decision. 00:08:00.000 --> 00:08:02.140 And in between the body of the text, 00:08:02.740 --> 00:08:04.780 Jesus says, 00:08:05.080 --> 00:08:05.760 open up your Bibles 00:08:05.760 --> 00:08:06.680 to the Old Testament 00:08:06.680 --> 00:08:07.820 and here's my point. 00:08:08.020 --> 00:08:08.820 The Old Testament 00:08:08.819 --> 00:08:10.439 is fulfilled by Me. 00:08:11.819 --> 00:08:13.339 He preaches Himself 00:08:13.339 --> 00:08:14.579 from the Old Testament. 00:08:16.839 --> 00:08:18.500 And so Jesus fulfills 00:08:18.500 --> 00:08:19.959 the Law and the Prophets 00:08:19.959 --> 00:08:20.899 in His person. 00:08:21.399 --> 00:08:22.139 He's the Messiah. 00:08:22.959 --> 00:08:24.420 But He also fulfills it 00:08:24.420 --> 00:08:25.620 in His preaching. 00:08:26.819 --> 00:08:29.139 He brings the true meaning 00:08:29.139 --> 00:08:31.620 of the Old Testament. 00:08:31.620 --> 00:08:33.860 What the Law and Prophets 00:08:33.860 --> 00:08:35.559 really meant to say. 00:08:35.559 --> 00:08:38.099 And that's what we see Him doing 00:08:38.099 --> 00:08:39.059 00:09:05.879 Jesus says something 00:09:05.879 --> 00:09:06.679 to the extent of, 00:09:07.060 --> 00:09:08.679 you've heard that it was said 00:09:08.679 --> 00:09:10.860 about adultery, 00:09:11.720 --> 00:09:13.039 but I say, 00:09:13.799 --> 00:09:15.480 anyone who lusts in his heart. 00:09:17.000 --> 00:09:18.379 And so each time, 00:09:18.600 --> 00:09:21.460 each of these six examples, 00:09:22.019 --> 00:09:23.500 Jesus is bringing, 00:09:24.080 --> 00:09:25.980 fulfilling the true meaning 00:09:25.980 --> 00:09:27.360 of God's Law. 00:09:27.879 --> 00:09:28.800 He is saying,
