00:03:37.719 and we see Nehemiah, he's an Israelite, but he's in exile, but born in Persia. 00:03:39.879 --> 00:03:46.340 Israel was exiled about a hundred years before Nehemiah comes onto the scene, 00:03:46.340 --> 00:03:51.539 and he is serving King Artaxerxes, that same king that we read in the book of Esther. 00:03:52.379 --> 00:03:53.300 And he's the cupbearer. 00:03:53.340 --> 00:03:57.099 And the cupbearer is no small duty, no small position. 00:03:57.759 --> 00:04:01.580 Yes, he makes sure the wine isn't poisoned, very important, 00:04:01.580 --> 00:04:05.400 but he is a confidant of the king. 00:04:06.340 --> 00:04:09.920 And in some, in the ancient world, 00:04:10.100 --> 00:04:13.920 some cupbearers were even so highly elevated that they were, 00:04:14.860 --> 00:04:17.400 really, it's like the king, the prince is the cupbearer, 00:04:17.520 --> 00:04:19.040 like really high authority. 00:04:20.040 --> 00:04:23.860 We find Nehemiah, he's the cupbearer to the king, 00:04:23.939 --> 00:04:26.840 he's high ranking, he enjoys great influence, 00:04:26.839 --> 00:04:29.159 he enjoys a premium life of wealth, 00:04:29.639 --> 00:04:33.719 he serves the greatest king that is existing in the world at the time, 00:04:34.439 --> 00:04:36.000 his life is set, and yet, 00:04:36.759 --> 00:04:39.639 he hears news of a crisis in Jerusalem. 00:04:40.899 --> 00:04:43.179 Something is not right. 00:04:44.099 --> 00:04:49.319 The rebuilding and restoration of Jerusalem has grinded to a halt, 00:04:49.779 --> 00:04:53.559 and so too has the life of Nehemiah. 00:04:53.679 like a, in Ezra, it's like a look, like a look ahead in Ezra chapter four. 00:07:11.079 --> 00:07:15.720 But we see that the temple rebuild gets halted for 20 years. 00:07:16.199 --> 00:07:20.939 And
