00:11:44.580 There was a man who had two sons, 00:11:44.580 --> 00:11:46.580 And the younger of them said to his father, 00:11:46.580 --> 00:11:48.580 Father, give me the share of property know this grace, 00:13:14.580 --> 00:13:18.580 We first have to realize the trouble that we are in. 00:13:18.580 --> 00:13:20.580 That's what happened with the prodigal son. 00:13:20.580 --> 00:13:24.580 He realized the trouble that he was in. 00:13:24.580 --> 00:13:26.580 And what trouble was it? 00:13:26.580 --> 00:13:29.580 Well, there were words that we were looking at this week 00:13:29.580 --> 00:13:31.580 As well as grace. 00:13:31.580 --> 00:13:33.580 And the other word that we looked at first 00:13:33.580 --> 00:13:35.580 Was a word, small word, 00:13:35.580 --> 00:13:38.580 That started with the letter S. 00:13:38.580 --> 00:13:40.580 Can you remember what that word was? 00:13:40.580 --> 00:13:42.580 Shout it out if you remember it. 00:13:42.580 --> 00:13:43.580 Sin. 00:13:43.580 --> 00:13:44.580 Yeah. 00:13:44.580 --> 00:13:46.580 Sin was that word. 00:13:46.580 --> 00:13:48.580 Sin was the word that reminds us 00:13:48.580 --> 00:13:50.580 We are in trouble. 00:13:50.580 --> 00:13:51.580 And what is sin? 00:13:51.580 --> 00:13:55.580 Well, sin is doing wrong against God. 00:13:55.580 --> 00:13:57.580 Now you remember in the story 00:13:57.580 --> 00:14:00.580 When I was doing the Bible story about it 00:14:00.580 --> 00:14:01.580 When we were looking at it 00:14:01.580 --> 00:14:02.580 And when Gordon was doing it as well. 00:14:02.580 --> 00:14:05.580 We were remembering that sin can first of all 00:14:05.580 --> 00:14:07.580 Make us feel comfortable. 00:14:07.580 --> 00:14:09.580 As if we come and just sit down comfortably 00:14:09.580 --> 00:14:12.580 And have a rest in a chair. 00:14:12.580 --> 00:14:13.580 But then what happens? 00:14:13.580 --> 00:14:15.580 What does this do? 00:14:15.580 --> 00:14:16.580 Look at this. 00:14:16.580 --> 00:14:18.580 What does this do when you put it around you? 00:14:18.580 --> 00:14:20.580 It makes you blind. 00:14:20.580 --> 00:14:22.580 You can't see, isn't it? 00:14:22.580 --> 00:14:24.580 So sin blinds you. 00:14:24.580 --> 00:14:26.580 And then sin makes you do things 00:14:26.580 --> 00:14:29.580 That you wouldn't normally do, doesn't it? 00:14:29.580 --> 00:14:32.580 So when you get a man who supports lochs 00:14:32.580 --> 00:14:34.580 Putting on a hat that says Westside 00:14:34.580 --> 00:14:36.580 You know there's something wrong. 00:14:36.580 --> 00:14:38.580 And that's what sin does. 00:14:38.580 --> 00:14:41.580 It makes you do things that you wouldn't normally do. 00:14:41.580 --> 00:14:44.580 And then eventually what you find is 00:14:44.580 --> 00:14:46.580 You end up stuck in sin. 00:14:46.580 --> 00:14:48.580 Remember what happened? 00:14:48.580 --> 00:14:50.580 We ended up tied to the chair. 00:14:50.580 --> 00:14:52.580 Tied to what was first of all comfortable. 00:14:52.580 --> 00:14:55.580 You end up tied to it. 00:14:55.580 --> 00:14:57.580 And that's what sin is. 00:14:57.580 --> 00:15:00.580 It just can grow and grow in our lives 00:15:00.580 --> 00:15:02.580 And we end up stuck in sin. 00:15:02.580 --> 00:15:04.580 Just like the prodigal son. 00:15:04.580 --> 00:15:08.580 There was a man who visited Niagara Falls. 00:15:08.580 --> 00:15:10.580 You ever heard of Niagara Falls? 00:15:10.580 --> 00:15:14.580 Big waterfall between Canada and America. 00:15:14.580 --> 00:15:18.580 And this man was visiting just as it was coming into springtime. 00:15:18.580 --> 00:15:21.580 So the winter had just passed 00:15:21.580 --> 00:15:24.580 And the snow and the ice was just starting to melt 00:15:24.580 --> 00:15:28.580 But there was lots of big chunks of ice floating down the river 00:15:28.580 --> 00:15:31.580 And then going over the edge of the waterfall. 00:15:31.580 --> 00:15:33.580 And as the man was watching 00:15:33.580 --> 00:15:36.580 He was seeing that there was birds sitting on the ice 00:15:36.580 --> 00:15:37.580 On these chunks of ice 00:15:37.580 --> 00:15:39.580 And they were eating fish. 00:15:39.580 --> 00:15:41.580 But the birds were also keeping an eye out 00:15:41.580 --> 00:15:43.580 What was going on around them. 00:15:43.580 --> 00:15:44.580 So as they were enjoying the fish 00:15:44.580 --> 00:15:46.580 They were always watching where they were going 00:15:46.580 --> 00:15:49.580 And just before it came close to the edge 00:15:49.580 --> 00:15:50.580 The bird would fly away 00:15:50.580 --> 00:15:53.580 So it wouldn't go over the waterfall. 00:15:53.580 --> 00:15:55.580 But then he noticed one bird 00:15:55.580 --> 00:15:59.580 And this bird had obviously been on this ice for a long time. 00:15:59.580 --> 00:16:01.580 Much longer than the other ones. 00:16:01.580 --> 00:16:06.580 And it was so busy eating this big fish that it had on the ice 00:16:06.580 --> 00:16:08.580 That it wasn't paying attention. 00:16:08.580 --> 00:16:12.580 And by the time the bird realized what was coming 00:16:12.580 --> 00:16:15.580 That it was coming so close to the edge of the waterfall 00:16:15.580 --> 00:16:17.580 And he started to try and fly away 00:16:17.580 --> 00:16:19.580 Put out his wings and started to fly away 00:16:19.580 --> 00:16:21.580 He started flapping 00:16:21.580 --> 00:16:24.580 A bit like Duncan Norman trying to get out of the chair the other day 00:16:24.580 --> 00:16:25.580 But he was stuck 00:16:25.580 --> 00:16:27.580 He was stuck in the ice 00:16:27.580 --> 00:16:32.580 His claws had been there so long that they had frozen into the ice 00:16:32.580 --> 00:16:34.580 And it was getting more and more in a panic 00:16:34.580 --> 00:16:36.580 Because he was coming close to the edge 00:16:36.580 --> 00:16:38.580 And he tried and the ice was coming up a little 00:16:38.580 --> 00:16:40.580 But then going back down 00:16:40.580 --> 00:16:44.580 And the bird ended up going over the waterfall 00:16:44.580 --> 00:16:45.580 It was too late 00:16:45.580 --> 00:16:47.580 It hadn't been paying attention 00:16:47.580 --> 00:16:51.580 And that's what sin is like 00:16:51.580 --> 00:16:54.580 It just makes us fall into the wrong place 00:16:54.580 --> 00:16:57.580 And not pay attention to the danger that's around us 00:16:57.580 --> 00:17:00.580 And we can end up stuck in sin 00:17:00.580 --> 00:17:03.580 And if we end up stuck in sin 00:17:03.580 --> 00:17:05.579 What do we need to do? 00:17:05.579 --> 00:17:09.579 Well we need to think about what the prodigal son did 00:17:09.579 --> 00:17:11.579 In this story that Jesus is telling of 00:17:11.579 --> 00:17:12.579 There's two sons 00:17:12.579 --> 00:17:14.579 We're thinking of the younger son 00:17:14.579 --> 00:17:17.579 And he wanted to just go away from God 00:17:17.579 --> 00:17:20.579 It's a story that speaks to many of us who are maybe older 00:17:20.579 --> 00:17:23.579 But also to you as you're young as well 00:17:23.579 --> 00:17:26.579 Because it reminds you what to look out for as you're growing up 00:17:26.579 money 00:17:48.579 --> 00:17:49.579 He had a good time 00:17:49.579 --> 00:17:51.579 But then he ended up in trouble 00:17:51.579 --> 00:17:54.579 He was feeding pigs 00:17:54.579 --> 00:17:56.579 A dirty job 00:17:56.579 --> 00:17:57.579 A smelly job 00:17:57.579 --> 00:17:58.579 He was feeding pigs 00:17:58.579 --> 00:18:00.579 And he wasn't happy 00:18:00.579 --> 00:18:01.579 He was miserable 00:18:01.579 --> 00:18:03.579 He thought that he was going to get away 00:18:03.579 --> 00:18:04.579 And that he was going to be happy 00:18:04.579 --> 00:18:06.579 But he wasn't 00:18:06.579 --> 00:18:08.579 And if we run away from God 00:18:08.579 --> 00:18:11.579 We might think we're going to be happy too 00:18:11.579 --> 00:18:13.579 But we're not 00:18:13.579 --> 00:18:15.579 Because we just end up miserable 00:18:15.579 --> 00:18:17.579 Life doesn't make sense 00:18:17.579 --> 00:18:19.579 Nothing goes right for us 00:18:19.579 --> 00:18:22.579 And we end up just doing our own thing 00:18:22.579 --> 00:18:25.579 And getting stuck in sin 00:18:25.579 --> 00:18:28.579 But the amazing thing about the story of the prodigal son 00:18:28.579 --> 00:18:30.579 Is the father 00:18:30.579 --> 00:18:34.579 And what we see is when the son came to his senses 00:18:34.579 --> 00:18:36.579 He said, why don't I go back? 00:18:36.579 --> 00:18:40.579 I can even just be a servant in my father's house 00:18:40.579 --> 00:18:42.579 I can just have a little job 00:18:42.579 --> 00:18:43.579 But I'll still have food 00:18:43.579 --> 00:18:45.579 I'll have a place to live 00:18:45.579 --> 00:18:48.579 But he didn't think the father would love him 00:18:48.579 --> 00:18:52.579 But what do we read in this story? 00:18:52.579 --> 00:18:55.579 When the father saw him coming stealing? 00:31:38.579 --> 00:31:39.579 No 00:31:40.579 --> 00:31:41.579 What did they do? 00:31:41.579 --> 00:31:42.579 They went to do good 00:31:43.579 --> 00:31:44.579 Because their lives were changed 00:31:45.579 --> 00:31:49.579 They realized that they had wasted so much of their lives doing wrong 00:31:50.579 --> 00:31:53.579 That now they wanted to do good 00:31:54.579 --> 00:31:57.579 Jesus going to the cross 00:31:58.579 --> 00:32:00.579 What purpose was in that? 00:32:00.579 --> 00:32:03.579 It was that we might have life 00:32:04.579 --> 00:32:05.579 And have it to the full 00:32:06.579 --> 00:32:07.579 That's what he says in John's Gospel 00:32:08.579 --> 00:32:10.579 That we might have life in him 00:32:11.579 --> 00:32:14.579 But does our life have that purpose? 00:35:28.579 --> 00:35:29.579 Will we go from church today and say 00:35:30.579 --> 00:35:33.579 Well, I look forward to hearing about Jesus again at the Christmas club 00:35:33.579 --> 00:35:36.579 learning about Jesus 00:36:09.579 --> 00:36:11.579 Because the more we learn about Jesus 00:36:12.579 --> 00:36:13.579 The more we live for Him 00:36:14.579 --> 00:36:16.579 We plant ourselves 00:36:17.579 --> 00:36:18.579 As one of the songs said 00:36:19.579 --> 00:36:20.579 In the B-I-B-L-E 00:36:21.579 --> 00:36:22.579 The Bible 00:36:23.579 --> 00:36:24.579 Because that's where we learn 00:36:25.579 --> 00:36:28.579 All about the wonder of more and more of the grace of Jesus to us 00:36:28.579 --> 00:36:31.579 So we looked at two people 00:36:31.579 --> 00:36:34.579 We looked at the woman who Jesus met at the well 00:36:35.579 --> 00:36:37.579 And her life was totally transformed 00:36:38.579 --> 00:36:41.579 And she became so excited about Jesus 00:36:42.579 --> 00:36:43.579 Realizing who He was 00:36:44.579 --> 00:36:46.579 That she went back to the town which she was from 00:36:47.579 --> 00:36:48.579 Where she didn't have many friends 00:36:49.579 --> 00:36:50.579 But she said to them 00:36:50.579 --> 00:36:51.579 Come 00:36:51.579 --> 00:36:54.579 See a man who told me everything that I ever did 00:36:54.579 --> 00:36:55.579 She knew she had done wrong 00:36:56.579 --> 00:36:57.579 But she said 00:36:57.579 --> 00:36:58.579 Can this be the Christ? 00:36:59.579 --> 00:37:01.579 The one who is able to show mercy 00:37:02.579 --> 00:37:04.579 And Zacchaeus here again 00:37:05.579 --> 00:37:07.579 He was someone who had done so much wrong in his life 00:37:08.579 --> 00:37:10.579 He'd stolen money from people 00:37:11.579 --> 00:37:12.579 People didn't like him 00:37:13.579 --> 00:37:15.579 They stood in front of him to stop him seeing Jesus 00:37:15.579 --> 00:37:17.579 Because he was just a small man 00:37:18.579 --> 00:37:19.579 But what did Jesus do? 00:37:20.579 --> 00:37:21.579 He showed him mercy 00:37:22.579 --> 00:37:23.579 And he said 00:37:24.579 --> 00:37:25.579 Come down Zacchaeus from that tree 00:37:26.579 --> 00:37:30.579 Because today salvation has come to your house 00:37:33.579 --> 00:37:35.579 It's amazing what grace does 00:37:36.579 --> 00:37:38.579 It helps us see our sin 00:37:39.579 --> 00:37:41.579 That we're stuck in sin 00:37:41.579 --> 00:37:45.579 But it helps us also to see where we can go with our sin 00:37:46.579 --> 00:37:47.579 To take it to Jesus and take it to Him 00:37:48.579 --> 00:37:52.579 At the cross where He showed mercy to us 00:37:53.579 --> 00:37:55.579 But it also reminds us 00:37:56.579 --> 00:37:57.579 That we need to live 00:37:58.579 --> 00:38:01.579 Not just for a moment or a day or two 00:38:02.579 --> 00:38:03.579 But all our days 00:38:04.579 --> 00:38:08.579 That our lives will be transformed by Him 00:38:08.579 --> 00:38:11.579 Grace is an amazing thing 00:38:12.579 --> 00:38:15.579 Mercy is an amazing thing 00:38:16.579 --> 00:38:19.579 And that's what God has given to us 00:38:20.579 --> 00:38:23.579 So once more can we
