we acknowledge that we need a saviour 00:06:21.759 --> 00:06:24.640 and we repent of our sins 00:06:24.640 --> 00:06:26.699 and become part of the family of God, 00:06:26.879 --> 00:06:29.220 a great miracle occurs. 00:06:29.840 --> 00:06:32.040 We're taken from spiritual darkness 00:06:32.040 --> 00:06:35.740 of this world into the light of God. 00:06:36.180 --> 00:06:39.080 Our spirits are 00:07:27.239 --> 00:07:29.619 You were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus 00:07:29.619 --> 00:07:31.639 and by the Spirit of our God. 00:07:32.179 --> 00:07:35.579 This is positional sanctification. 00:07:36.119 --> 00:07:37.039 It's set. 00:07:37.479 --> 00:07:39.179 It doesn't change. 00:07:39.180 --> 00:07:44.079 But then there is progressive sanctification. 00:07:44.579 --> 00:07:47.540 And as the word suggests, it moves. 00:07:48.840 --> 00:07:52.939 It is living out what that positional sanctification, 00:07:53.900 --> 00:07:56.519 it's about living that out. 00:07:57.019 --> 00:08:00.079 It's the process whereby we daily 00:08:00.079 --> 00:08:03.420 become more and more like Jesus Christ 00:08:03.420 --> 00:08:07.220 through the death of our sin in our lives 00:08:07.220 --> 00:08:12.500 as we endeavour to live according to the grace in the gospel. 00:08:14.040 --> 00:08:16.780 But we're aware that we all fail. 00:08:18.120 --> 00:08:20.200 Romans 7, this is a famous passage 00:08:20.200 --> 00:08:22.360 that you would all have heard most probably, 00:08:22.879 --> 00:08:24.960 where Paul shares, 00:08:24.959 --> 00:08:27.939 I do not do what I want to do, 00:08:28.299 --> 00:08:29.719 but what I hate to do. 00:08:30.419 --> 00:08:32.919 And if I do what I do not want to do, 00:08:33.039 --> 00:08:35.179 I agree that the law is good. 00:08:35.860 --> 00:08:36.720 As it is, 00:08:37.000 --> 00:08:39.199 it is no longer I myself who do it, 00:08:39.360 --> 00:08:41.759 but it is the sin living in me. 00:08:42.319 --> 00:08:44.039 So this sounds a bit like a riddle. 00:08:44.039 --> 00:08:47.919 But if Paul is confessing that he struggles with sin, 00:08:48.579 --> 00:08:53.480 I take it that it's really okay for us also to confess 00:08:53.480 --> 00:08:57.079 that we too struggle with sin. 00:08:58.480 --> 00:09:00.360 The third sanctification, 00:09:00.480 --> 00:09:01.599 I'll come back to the other, 00:09:01.740 --> 00:09:04.039 but the third sanctification is perfect sanctification. 00:09:04.039 --> 00:09:09.279 It's the glorification of which happens 00:09:09.279 --> 00:09:10.819 when Jesus returns 00:09:10.819 --> 00:09:13.419 and he makes us perfect to be with him. 00:09:14.419 --> 00:09:17.699 And oh, how good will that day be 00:09:17.699 --> 00:09:18.980 when Jesus returns 00:09:18.980 --> 00:09:22.860 and we are made perfect to live eternally with him. 00:09:23.439 --> 00:09:25.779 So we have positional sanctification, 00:09:26.179 --> 00:09:27.079 we have progressive, 00:09:27.459 --> 00:09:28.759 are needing to live out 00:09:39.879 --> 00:09:41.659 what that looks like. 00:09:41.860 --> 00:09:44.199 That's what this middle section is all about. 00:09:45.500 --> 00:09:47.279 For the Galatians to obey the law 00:09:47.279 --> 00:09:52.120 as being encouraged, 00:09:52.259 --> 00:09:54.319 they would be turning away from Christ, 00:09:54.459 --> 00:09:58.259 as Paul is suggesting in verses one to four. 00:09:59.339 --> 00:10:00.740 But does it mean 00:10:00.740 --> 00:10:03.759 that if they obeyed the law, 00:10:04.039 --> 00:10:05.000 does that mean 00:10:05.000 --> 00:10:07.199 that they would lose their salvation completely, 00:10:07.399 --> 00:10:09.319 as it might suggest in verse four, 00:10:09.439 --> 00:10:10.319 where Paul says, 00:10:10.919 --> 00:10:12.759 if you follow the wrong teaching, 00:10:13.480 --> 00:10:16.099 you have fallen away from grace. 00:10:17.500 --> 00:10:18.699 Now, interestingly, 00:10:19.579 --> 00:10:21.860 Paul knows these Galatians really well 00:10:21.860 --> 00:10:24.459 and he has great confidence 00:10:24.459 --> 00:10:26.620 that they are not going to turn 00:10:26.620 --> 00:10:28.679 their backs away completely. 00:10:28.679 --> 00:10:31.479 because we see in verse five, 00:10:31.819 --> 00:10:32.279 he says, 00:10:32.779 --> 00:10:33.899 but by faith, 00:10:34.019 --> 00:10:35.639 we eagerly await 00:10:35.639 --> 00:10:36.719 through the spirit, 00:10:36.839 --> 00:10:37.479 the righteousness 00:10:37.479 --> 00:10:38.899 for which we hope. 00:10:39.279 --> 00:10:41.079 He knows that they're going to be 00:11:10.839 --> 00:11:12.459 and they are far away 00:11:12.459 --> 00:11:13.659 from Jesus today. 00:11:14.639 --> 00:11:15.860 We want to know, 00:11:15.959 --> 00:11:17.000 are they saved?
