tells the origin story of God's people, Israel. 00:00:19.519 --> 00:00:27.760 And this summer we're looking at the story of Isaac and Jacob, mostly Jacob, which is in chapters 25 through 36. 00:00:27.760 --> 00:00:32.120 And to a certain extent we're asking the same question we asked last summer. 00:00:32.240 --> 00:00:38.600 You'll remember we were in the Abraham story and we said, what does it look like to follow God in faith? 00:00:39.079 --> 00:00:44.920 That question is going to continue for Isaac and Jacob, although as I mentioned last week we're going to have some new layers, 00:00:45.560 --> 00:00:49.480 some new themes that get brought to the forefront in this part of the story. 00:00:49.920 --> 00:00:56.680 So last week we looked at God's faithfulness to his covenant generation to generation. 00:00:56.679 --> 00:01:01.560 There's the passing on of the blessing from Abraham to Isaac. 00:01:02.179 --> 00:01:07.879 This week we're going to start a theme that is going to show up over and over in the book of Genesis, 00:01:08.239 --> 00:01:15.599 which is God's work in and through dysfunctional families. 00:01:16.799 --> 00:01:18.420 It's going to be a repeated theme. 00:01:19.099 --> 00:01:24.700 So remember chapter 25, we had the birth of the twins, Jacob and Esau, to Isaac and Rebekah. 00:01:24.700 --> 00:01:28.219 Now in chapter 26, we have gone back in time. 00:01:29.000 --> 00:01:31.260 Jacob and Esau have not been born yet. 00:01:31.320 --> 00:01:36.460 So this is back when Isaac and Rebekah were just the two of them before they had kids. 00:01:50.959 This week, it's not the mantle he takes on. 00:01:51.859 --> 00:01:55.840 Isaac takes on the sins of Abraham. 00:01:56.759 --> 00:01:59.239 So that's our topic this morning, generational 00:08:06.639 and Pharaoh takes her. 00:08:06.639 --> 00:08:08.579 Then, 00:08:09.579 --> 00:08:10.560 God afflicts Pharaoh 00:08:10.560 --> 00:08:11.680 and his household 00:08:11.680 --> 00:08:13.360 with great plagues, 00:08:13.479 --> 00:08:14.120 and so Pharaoh 00:08:14.120 --> 00:08:15.000 kicks Abraham 00:08:15.000 --> 00:08:15.740 and Sarai 00:08:15.740 --> 00:08:16.500 out of Egypt.
