that Christ's ascension offers true comfort 00:05:00.360 --> 00:05:04.279 to the Christian and reason for trust 00:05:04.279 --> 00:05:07.079 in the non-Christian, for the non-Christian. 00:05:07.139 --> 00:05:09.620 If there are those of you who are questioning your faith, 00:05:09.680 --> 00:05:12.099 or maybe don't yet profess faith in Christ, 00:05:12.639 --> 00:05:14.500 the ascension offers one, 00:06:04.539 --> 00:06:06.039 or the end of the Gospels, 00:06:06.500 --> 00:06:09.319 Jesus has just been raised from the dead. 00:06:09.419 --> 00:06:10.939 He has appeared to the disciples. 00:06:11.139 --> 00:06:13.379 He has appeared to many of his other followers. 00:06:13.559 --> 00:06:16.899 First Corinthians tells us up to 500 other people, 00:06:16.959 --> 00:06:18.679 and he's shown himself for who he is, 00:06:18.739 --> 00:06:21.219 the risen Messiah, God himself, 00:06:21.299 --> 00:06:25.019 who has done this incredible act of power over death. 00:06:25.019 --> 00:06:29.060 And then in Acts one, he leaves. 00:06:29.919 --> 00:06:30.919 He leaves. 00:06:31.560 --> 00:06:34.019 And it tells us throughout the Gospels 00:06:34.019 --> 00:06:36.639 that the apostles are confused. 00:06:37.379 --> 00:06:38.399 They're sad. 00:06:38.859 --> 00:06:39.899 They're nervous. 00:06:40.019 --> 00:06:40.759 They're scared. 00:06:41.620 --> 00:06:44.339 And there's this moment where he ascends into heaven, 00:06:44.699 --> 00:06:45.859 and they're just standing, 00:06:46.079 --> 00:06:47.339 looking up into the sky saying, 00:06:47.459 --> 00:06:48.099 what just happened? 00:06:49.060 --> 00:06:51.539 We thought we had this Jesus figured out. 00:06:51.620 --> 00:06:52.019 He died. 00:06:52.099 --> 00:06:53.079 He came back to life. 00:06:53.279 --> 00:06:54.779 He's going to now bring his kingdom. 00:06:55.019 --> 00:06:55.799 He's God. 00:06:55.879 --> 00:06:56.680 He's the Messiah. 00:06:56.779 --> 00:06:57.379 It's going to happen. 00:08:01.839 the traumatic moments of life, 00:08:01.920 --> 00:08:02.819 and have felt, 00:08:03.219 --> 00:08:06.120 I wish Jesus was here to make sense of all of this? 00:08:06.120 --> 00:08:11.639 I think of Mary or Martha when Jesus' friend, 00:08:11.740 --> 00:08:12.639 their brother, dies, 00:08:12.720 --> 00:08:13.800 and they come to him and they say, 00:08:13.860 --> 00:08:15.459 Jesus, where were you? 00:08:15.660 --> 00:08:16.780 If you had been here, 00:08:17.280 --> 00:08:18.420 our brother would not have died. 00:08:18.959 --> 00:08:20.980 And then, well, Jesus does come three
