00:07:56.679 if you were here last week, 00:07:56.759 --> 00:08:01.279 Pastor Greg talked about this incredible thing that God has done. 00:08:01.560 --> 00:08:03.199 He has made us now debtors, 00:08:03.259 --> 00:08:04.519 not to the flesh, 00:08:04.620 --> 00:08:05.979 not to our sinful nature, 00:08:05.979 --> 00:08:09.379 to continue living in rebellion against God, 00:08:09.519 --> 00:08:12.679 and in the ways that lead to death in our lives. 00:08:12.680 --> 00:08:14.980 But instead, God has given us His Spirit, 00:08:15.319 --> 00:08:18.400 so that now we might actually live a new way 00:08:18.400 --> 00:08:21.420 in His power, 00:08:21.540 --> 00:08:25.439 by putting to death those deadly things in our lives, 00:08:25.740 --> 00:08:30.120 and instead living the life that 00:10:05.460 Verse 16, 00:10:05.580 --> 00:10:07.899 he changes the image from son to children, 00:10:08.340 --> 00:10:10.840 and he could have done that from the very beginning. 00:10:11.700 --> inheritance, 00:10:40.679 --> 00:10:42.399 maybe not all, 00:10:42.500 --> 00:10:44.720 but the lion's share of the inheritance 00:10:44.720 --> 00:10:46.679 would actually come to you 00:10:46.679 --> 00:10:48.039 as the son. 00:10:49.600 --> 00:10:51.819 And what Paul is referring to here 00:10:51.820 --> 00:10:53.700 is not a gendered position, 00:10:54.340 --> 00:10:56.020 but a social position. 00:10:58.379 --> 00:11:00.720 The ESV helpfully puts in, 00:11:00.860 --> 00:11:02.440 this word could be translated, 00:11:02.840 --> 00:11:03.620 sons and daughters. 00:11:04.260 --> 00:11:06.040 It is clearly inclusive 00:11:06.040 --> 00:11:07.780 of all people, 00:11:08.780 --> 00:11:12.280 but he uses sonship 00:11:12.280 --> 00:11:15.080 because a son has a particular
