00:05:54.580 And as we think through this, 00:05:54.800 --> 00:05:55.840 I mentioned it earlier, 00:05:55.980 --> 00:05:58.140 that we're jumping back from the book of Romans 00:05:58.140 --> 00:05:59.100 back to Genesis. 00:05:59.820 --> 00:06:01.140 And as we do so, 00:06:01.139 --> 00:06:04.219 I want us to keep in mind what we've learned so far 00:06:04.219 --> 00:06:05.659 in our earlier time in Genesis. 00:06:06.120 --> 00:06:08.819 That God has promised Abraham and his descendants 00:06:08.819 --> 00:06:11.759 a great blessing of children 00:06:11.759 --> 00:06:13.979 and something that's eternal. 00:06:15.180 --> 00:06:17.839 And now we have Abraham's descendants. 00:06:18.379 --> 00:06:19.759 Not too far removed, 00:06:20.120 --> 00:06:23.120 but forgetting all that was promised to him. 00:06:24.219 --> 00:06:26.599 So this morning, let's first look at sin. 00:06:27.419 --> 00:06:29.839 Look with me at that first part of the story. 00:06:29.839 --> 00:06:31.359 It's a story that doesn't begin 00:06:31.359 --> 00:06:32.679 with Jacob and Esau at all. 00:06:32.799 --> 00:06:34.000 In fact, it begins, 00:06:34.139 --> 00:06:35.779 this is really the story of Isaac. 00:06:36.479 --> 00:06:37.359 But in Isaac, 00:06:37.659 --> 00:06:40.259 the most important thing that comes from Isaac 00:06:40.259 --> 00:06:41.439 is Jacob. 00:06:42.959 --> 00:06:43.759 If you remember, 00:06:43.939 --> 00:06:47.039 Isaac is that long-promised son of Abraham. 00:06:48.819 --> 00:06:51.519 Not simply a promise of blessing, 00:06:52.039 --> 00:06:53.739 but descendants and a family 00:06:53.739 --> 00:06:54.799 and a kingdom 00:06:54.799 --> 00:06:56.379 that would be everlasting. 00:06:57.179 --> 00:06:59.439 Except there's one problem, right? 00:07:00.219 --> 00:07:01.639 He's got no kids. 00:07:04.600 --> 00:07:06.660 And that new family tradition 00:07:06.660 --> 00:07:08.860 of great promise of blessing 00:07:08.860 --> 00:07:09.899 and fruitfulness --> 00:08:20.159 very prominently 00:08:20.159 --> 00:08:21.459 because he's going to make 00:08:21.459 --> 00:08:23.139 Jacob's life miserable. 00:08:24.659 --> 00:08:26.139 It's a foreshadowing 00:08:26.139 --> 00:08:27.659 of what's in store for Jacob, 00:08:28.659 --> 00:08:30.759 but there's this longing 00:08:30.759 --> 00:08:31.699 for a family, 00:08:31.879 --> 00:08:33.220 and that familiar storyline 00:08:34.000 --> 00:08:34.759 for Abraham 00:08:34.759 --> 00:08:36.220 is now true in Isaac, 00:08:36.220 --> 00:08:37.580 and we might see 00:08:37.580 --> 00:08:38.360 those
