And as I have you turn there, let me say at the outset that I gladly admit the text that I'm going to use this morning is not one that is new. 00:00:30.000 --> 00:00:37.920 It is one that is in the book of Proverbs that I am confident most every one of you are familiar with. 00:00:39.240 --> 00:00:48.740 It's one that on more than one occasion I have come back to in some 30 whatever number of years it is that I have preached on Mother's Day. 00:00:48.740 --> 00:01:00.100 And it is a text that I trust is more than just a passing curiosity to you, but I trust it is one that is imprinted and affects your thinking. 00:01:00.100 --> 00:01:09.420 My call and responsibility today is to take up the Scriptures, to rely upon the enabling of the Spirit of God, 00:01:10.560 --> 00:01:18.579 to rely upon the time of prayer and study that God has given to me, and your prayers to preach the Word. 00:01:18.579 --> 00:01:28.980 And I trust that as I am preaching that one of the things you are doing along with listening is that you are praying that the Word of God would have free course 00:01:28.980 --> 00:01:31.340 and that it would make a difference in your life. 00:01:32.359 --> 00:01:39.900 Today is a day that we celebrate, and rightfully so, the role and ministry that mothers have in our lives. 00:01:39.900 --> 00:01:47.440 But the text that we are going to be looking at this morning is a text that covers all of God's people, 00:01:47.580 --> 00:01:54.620 in that the Scriptures encourage us here to give due regard to the mother, to the wife in particular, who fears the Lord. 00:01:54.760 --> 00:02:04.240 And if we are here today and know Christ as our Savior, one of the characteristics of our life should be our fear for the Lord. 00:02:04.239 --> 00:02:15.099 I details that are involved in fearing the Lord. 00:02:49.000 --> 00:02:50.640 Chapter 31, verse 1, it says, 00:02:50.640 --> 00:02:53.960 The words of King Lemuel, an oracle that his mother taught him. 00:02:54.740 --> 00:02:56.460 What are you doing, my son? 00:02:57.480 --> 00:03:00.000 What are you doing, son of my womb? 00:03:00.640 --> 00:03:03.780 What are you doing, son of my vows? 00:03:04.240 --> 00:03:08.879 Do not give your strength to women, 00:03:09.659 --> 00:03:13.540 your ways to those who would destroy kings. 00:03:13.539 --> 00:03:19.680 It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine, 00:03:19.900 --> 00:03:22.399 or for rulers to take strong drink, 00:03:23.399 --> 00:03:27.159 lest they drink and forget what has been decreed, 00:03:27.579 --> Solomon, 00:03:50.140 --> 00:03:51.259 that we know, 00:03:51.800 --> 00:03:54.759 marked in the Scriptures as the wisest of all men, 00:03:55.740 --> 00:03:56.159 nevertheless, 00:03:56.599 --> 00:03:58.039 was a man who we know 00:03:58.039 --> 00:04:00.360 had a great deal of trouble 00:04:00.360 --> 00:04:02.259 with his discernment 00:04:02.259 --> 00:04:03.680 when it came to the matter of women. 00:04:03.719 --> 00:04:04.219 Am I right? 00:04:04.219 --> 00:04:08.199 So, an interesting close 00:04:08.199 --> 00:04:10.939 to the book of Proverbs 00:04:10.939 --> 00:04:13.180 is this
