the most prescribed drug that we often prescribe to people when they came walking into the ER 00:08:23.120 --> 00:08:25.040 was an antidepressant. 00:08:26.800 --> 00:08:32.480 And the longer I worked in the trauma unit, the more antidepressants I prescribed or saw the doctors prescribe. 00:08:32.480 --> 00:08:40.879 You know that in the UK today, $4 billion this year are going to be spent on antidepressants. 00:08:41.879 --> 00:08:44.539 I mean, it's the most prescribed drug in the UK. 00:08:45.399 --> 00:08:50.680 And in America, it's even more because they were told that America is this culture of pill addicts. 00:08:51.480 --> 00:08:58.220 So billions and billions and billions of dollars go into it as people search for joy and things in their life 00:08:58.220 --> 00:09:03.379 to have meaning, and they find no meaning, and they become joyless. 00:09:04.420 --> 00:09:08.680 It's interesting, I've been told by my friends who work in the healthcare system in Hong Kong 00:09:08.680 --> 00:09:16.560 that depression and lack of joy and lack of happiness is one of the leading things they see as people come to them. 00:09:17.519 --> 00:09:20.899 And that the prescription for antidepressants is going out of the roof. 00:09:20.899 --> 00:09:32.740 And the thing that depresses me about all of that is that when they tell me that the age group that is using these pills the most 00:09:32.740 --> 00:09:36.919 and they see the largest increase is in elementary school kids. 00:09:39.019 --> 00:09:42.799 Because the kids look at their life and they look at God's word changing people's lives. 00:16:04.139 --> 00:16:11.019 As we look at this passage, there are three things that have stuck out to me this week as I've been praying and thinking about joy. 00:16:30.179 --> 00:16:31.500 Did you know there's a battle going on right now? 00:16:33.939 --> 00:16:37.159 Did you know that there's a spiritual warfare going on right now? 00:16:37.199 --> 00:16:40.699 Did you know that right beside you are demons and angels? 00:16:45.179 --> 00:16:46.799 And the scripture says that the demons are there. 00:16:46.899 --> 00:16:49.159 When a word of truth comes out, they pluck it away from you. 00:16:49.379 --> 00:16:50.959 So you don't hear it and you don't believe it. 00:16:50.960 --> 00:16:54.139 And there's angels in here praying for us. get put in line. 00:17:22.079 --> 00:17:23.240 They get shown their place. 00:17:23.259 --> 00:17:23.960 They know their rank. 00:17:25.160 --> 00:17:28.639 But his disciples go out and they say, we're here because Jesus sent us. 00:17:28.640 --> 00:17:32.180 And the demons and all the forces that they're struggling against fall in line. 00:17:32.259 --> 00:17:33.040 And they fall back. 00:17:33.320 --> 00:17:36.200 And he says, all of these things are subject to us in your name. 00:17:37.580 --> 00:17:40.380 Now he's not saying, say the name of Jesus at the end of every prayer. 00:18:55.700 --> 00:18:58.400 And in the scripture in your bulletin in Ezekiel and Isaiah, it says, 00:18:58.640 --> 00:19:02.120 Until the day pride was found in his heart. 00:19:02.119 --> 00:19:09.000 And he realized, I don't want to serve God. 00:19:10.099 --> 00:19:11.279 I want to be God. 00:19:12.679 --> 00:19:16.199 And so he led this rebellion with one-third of the angels in heaven. 00:19:18.099 --> 00:19:22.099 It's interesting because that same tactic is a tactic that he uses in my life all the time. 00:19:22.159 --> 00:19:22.939 Does he use it in your life? already know the war is finished. 00:20:39.879 --> 00:20:44.079 It's already ended because Jesus dies on a cross, and everyone who follows him wins. 00:20:44.079 --> 00:20:49.519 But the battles continue, and this is the first battle for this hedge, this property of earth. 00:20:51.460 --> 00:20:54.879 And so the disciples come back, and they are high-fiving, and they're out of control. 00:20:55.299 --> 00:20:59.539 And Jesus looks at them, and he says, hey, all these things I've given to you in verse 19, 00:21:00.359 --> 00:21:01.939 I've given you the authority to tread. 00:21:02.019 --> 00:21:05.359 And it's going back to Genesis, where it says that after that fall, 00:21:05.359 --> 00:21:11.319 God looks at the woman and says, your seed is going to tread on the head of the serpent. 00:21:13.879 --> 00:21:16.399 And Jesus says to his disciples, and he says to you and me, 00:21:17.199 --> 00:21:18.519 I've given you the authority. 00:21:19.619 --> 00:21:20.759 I've given you the power. 00:21:21.659 --> 00:21:25.399 I've given you the ability to go out and to tread and to fight these demonic forces. 00:21:25.400 --> 00:21:30.360 You don't have to fear to tread on the heads of serpents and scorpions. 00:21:30.580 --> 00:21:33.420 The word in Greek for serpents actually means evil people. 00:21:35.480 --> 00:21:37.100 And the serpent was always a symbol of the devil. 00:21:37.360 --> 00:21:39.240 And scorpions is this demonic realm. 00:21:41.040 --> 00:21:43.920 And so the disciples come back, and they're overcome with joy 00:21:43.920 --> 00:21:47.519 And in verse 20, Jesus says this. 00:23:05.519 --> 00:23:08.659 Nevertheless, don't rejoice in all these things you're seeing, 00:23:08.660 --> 00:23:12.700 that the spirits are subject to you, that you can control them, 00:23:13.500 --> 00:23:18.279 but rejoice that your names are recorded in heaven. 00:23:20.200 --> 00:23:21.300 You see what he's saying there? 00:23:23.000 --> 00:23:25.200 He's saying, like we told the kids, that there's this book here. 00:23:26.019 --> 00:23:26.620 Not this one. 00:23:26.700 --> 00:23:27.519 There's another one. 00:23:28.420 --> 00:23:29.160 And it's in heaven. 00:23:29.160 --> 00:23:33.380 And God has prescribed all the names of his children in it. 00:23:34.340 --> 00:23:36.980 And even as the disciples go out and they see all this power,
