[0:00] And our place in the scriptures here this morning again, that's Ephesians in chapter number four, where we are continuing our verse-by-verse study through the book of Ephesians, Ephesians chapter four. I got a text from Brother Sean Holes, the man that was with us last Sunday. That's kind of a campus preacher, you might call it. And from here, he went to Santa Barbara, and I don't know what and where and where he was, but he sent me a picture sometime in the middle of the week of him standing in the middle of an open area, just surrounded, I'd say 200 young people standing there, some laughing, some you could see mocking, others just listening. And as he said, he just, he gets it going. He engages a crowd and a group, and there's no topic or no thing off limits to the banter and to the back and forth and the debate. And the more shocking, the better, as far as he's concerned in his experience. He's not just a street preacher that just stands up and preaches his Bible, Bible, Bible, Bible. He likes the craziness because it draws the crowd. And then as it starts to disperse and wind down, he's always watching for those ones that are hanging, and the ones that are just a little more open than the ones that are just there to mock and create a scene. And so he doesn't mind the mockers, where some people would just get all bent out of shape and frustrated and just say, I can't deal with this. No, he enjoys it. He brings it in. He's unique. I love this guy. He's so on point with what's going on, being on college campuses. I mean, that's where it's at. That's where the, it's not like the next, that's where it's at today, where they're being pumped and programmed and where it's alive, and then it's going to filter down through the next, you know, five and 10 years and be what society is. And somebody comes to him and they, you know, when he's, it's just common as he's preaching about something or as they're discussing something, somebody comes up with this homosexuality issue, you know, to like, you hate the queers or you hate gays and things.

[2:14] And he doesn't like defend himself. He doesn't say the Bible says this, God says this. He doesn't even deal with it. He's like, he looks at him, he's like, you're so 2020. You're so old. I mean, come on.

[2:26] Nobody's talking about that anymore. And he, and he turns it around on him and he says, where's your trans friends at? What's wrong with you? What's wrong with you? You don't have friends that are trans? Isn't that what we're supposed to? And so he just takes what's being pumped in the media and turns it around on them and then tries to make them look like they're the ones that are intolerant. And he just does it just to get the crowd going. And then he continues to preach Christ. And so he's a unique guy.

[2:51] He's got an incredible ministry and he's a lot of fun too. I really enjoyed having him here. And I thanked him this week just for stopping in. It just, it made my day that he was in the area and I'm glad you got to meet him. So he even talked, we talked about some things and he considered maybe we could schedule something to have him come back and have him and with us do a weekend or do something that was a little more larger scale evangelistic with tracks and find a place. And, and so we'll, Lord willing, stay in touch over that. So he's, he was heading back home because of now the colleges and the schedule being off for a while. There's no place for him to preach. So he's going to go home.

[3:31] So, all right, Ephesians chapter four, we stopped in, I want to say verse 19, verse 20. I think we got into 20 and 21. And so I'll begin in verse 17 reviewing and, and come right down and pick it up into the passage. And before we do that, let's pray together. Our father, we are thankful for the Lord Jesus Christ. Lord, we're in love with you because you've done so much and accomplished so much for us. You've, you've been so good to us in forgiving our sins and saving us. But Lord, even just in this life, you've been incredibly good to us and we thank you for it. We thank you that we can come to church together and meet and have a Bible and, and know it is true and believe every word and study it. And so Lord, as you, uh, I pray, as you guide our mind and our thoughts through this time, I pray we'd receive something. I pray that your words would be magnified and exalted and bear fruit inside of us. We pray this in Jesus name. Amen. So verse 17 reads, this, I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk.

[4:39] So now that you're saved henceforth from this time forward. And of course we read in chapter two about the time past when you were Gentiles after the flesh and time past at that time you were without hope. But henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk in the vanity of their mind, having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them because of the blindness of their heart, who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness to work all uncleanness with greediness. Now this group of Gentiles that are lost, that's still currently true of Gentiles that have not received Christ. Their understanding is darkened and there's because of the blindness of their heart. And we read the verse last week in Romans chapter one that when someone rejects light, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful. They became vain in their imaginations and their foolish heart was darkened.

[5:35] And here's the result of that. The result of rejecting light is their understandings darkened and their heart is blind. It's, and their past feeling now. And there's a verse in first Timothy chapter four that describes somebody's conscience being seared with a hot iron. And that's somebody who is rejecting light, rejecting truth, and they're hardened, becoming hardened and hardened and hardened, past feeling to truth. Having given themselves over unto lasciviousness to work all uncleanness with greediness. And there's a lost man and he's, in chapter two, he has no hope. He's without Christ. So he's just on his own and the lust of his flesh. And verse 20, but you have not so learned Christ, if so be that ye have heard him and have been taught by him as the truth is in Jesus. And so all those things mentioned earlier, you didn't learn that from Jesus Christ. And the Lord Jesus Christ showed a different way. And here we get into this doctrine that is, is essential. It is so practical. It is, in my opinion, I mentioned it last week, I'll say it over and over, that when you trust Jesus Christ as your savior and you exercise faith in the gospel and you just obey what the scripture teaches, the obedience of faith, when you obey the Bible's teaching that you're on your way to hell, that you need Jesus Christ, that he died as your substitute, and you exercise faith in what he did for you, and you trust him as your savior and call on him to be saved, you get saved. And now you're not sure sometimes, many times, you're not sure if you're saved. I did it. How many people in this world that follow what the simplicity that the scripture teaches are just expecting something? They never had anything all their life but just fear and anxiety over this thing, never, no peace, and now they're expecting something to happen and it doesn't happen. Now they're like, is that it? Did I do it?

[7:35] Some people just have that relief and that peace right away. Some people aren't so sure and it takes some time. So I think one of the most important things initially is having assurance of salvation, is being assured that you are in fact saved, that you have it. And a good way to get that is to understand what the Bible teaches on eternal security and understanding what the Bible teaches about the new man, about being in Christ. And so getting those initial beginning doctrines down makes a huge difference in just the stability of your mind, the peace of mind you have going through life now, knowing that you're okay, knowing that you're at peace with God, knowing that you have eternal life, even when you sin the next day, or that day, or the next week, even when you fall out.

[8:25] So having that knowledge is important. Assurance of salvation, eternal security. But probably right up there, and the next step is this right here, is understanding the Bible doctrine of the two natures. And it's not just the head knowledge that you need to gain. A head knowledge is helpful, but this is practical stuff. This is where it actually comes to where you walk your life, every single day of your life. The struggle, the inward battle, the mind, the thoughts, the words that come out of your mouth. Somebody who doesn't have all this assurance and understand these doctrines, then they say, how can I be saved if I said what I said, if I reacted the way I reacted yesterday? Somebody goes home and smites themselves thinking, I can't be saved because of what I did today.

[9:17] And now they don't have assurance. They don't understand the eternal security. And it all falls down to this thing about the two natures of the believer. And so Paul's going to talk about it here in Ephesians 4. It's all through the Pauline epistles. It's an important doctrine that you not just understand, but that you recognize what's going on, what the battle is inside your heart on your, when you walk out of church and when you want to sit down and watch TV, when you know in your heart, you should pick up the word of God, but you just don't want to, or you don't feel like it, when you get mad at somebody and the list goes on and on. So let's read it. What he says here in verse 22, he says that he put off concerning the former conversation, the old man. Now recognize the word conversation in your Bible is a reference to the manner of life, to your walk. And we've already studied that. And it's even in the context back in verse 17, how you walk. So you, that's the former conversation, the Gentiles way of life. And that conversation is in verse 22, corrupt, according to the deceitful lusts. So what you're called to do is to put off the old man. And of course, then verse 23, be renewed in the spirit of your mind and that you put on the new man. So a transaction's taking place here. And I want to comment here before we go further, that when the Bible tells you to put off the old man, it doesn't say you need to reprogram the old man. It doesn't teach you that you need to tame that guy, get a hold of him and keep him in check. And it definitely doesn't say you need to beat him into submission, like some of the new versions allow, which is corrupt in itself. What you need to do, what you're told to do is to put off the old man. An example, notice verse 25, wherefore, putting away, lying, speak every man truth. That'll be the first example. And we'll get to that shortly of how you put off the old man and put on the new man. So the old man is corrupt, according to the deceitful lust. That's his nature, is he's corrupt. Corrupt in the sense of, like the Bible uses the word in Matthew 6 about laying up treasure on earth. And it says that moth and rust doth corrupt, like your gold and silver can become rusty and cankered is the term in James. And so it's corrupted, it's deteriorating. It was clean and pure and good, but now it needs to be dealt with. And so you were once innocent before God in a young age, but when sin came, Romans chapter 7, then you died, and now you're corrupt. Sin inside of you corrupts you. In Galatians chapter 5, be not deceived, God is not mocked. Whatsoever man soweth, that shall he also reap. He that soweth to his flesh shall of his flesh reap corruption. And that's what's inside of the old man. He's corrupt. That's his nature. He's corrupt according to the deceitful lusts. You're going to see that word, Paul uses that word all over his epistles in connection with the old man is lusts, lusts.

[12:38] It's a word that comes out of my mouth a lot when teaching from the scripture because it's a Bible word. It's not just like one area of sin. It's the lust of the flesh, the flesh desiring so many different things. Deceitful lusts, by the way. This Bible, man, every word I could spend time on. It's such a pure book. It's so loaded that you put off concerning the former conversation, the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts and be renewed in the spirit of your mind. Again, this Bible, every word, every placement, every phrase is accurate and descriptive and right on. And you know how you and I try to construct a thought and convey it and we're sometimes just like, I'm just not quite saying it. I do it all the time at least. I can't quite get out what I'm meaning to get out.

[13:33] That's not the case with the book. The book every time gets it out. It's always accurate. It's always on point. It always articulates with the correct wording every time. Keep your place here. Come back to Romans chapter 7. It tells us here to be renewed in the spirit of your mind, of your mind. This is something that takes place on the inside. You can change your dress. You can change your appearance, but that's not putting off the old man and putting on the new man. This thing takes place on the inside and it uses the term mind, the spirit of your mind. So in Romans 7, I want to point out where it uses this term mind a good bit. And let's take a look here. Let's see. All right. Well, we'll just start in verse 17. Paul says, I now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me for I know that in me that is in my flesh dwelleth no good thing for to will is present with me, but how to perform that which is good I find not for the good that I would, I do not, but the evil, which I would not that I do. Now, if I do that, I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

[14:55] I find then a law that when I would do good, evil is present with me for I delight in the law of God after the inward man. Notice that phrase, the inward man. That's the new man. But I see another law in my members warring against the law of my mind, the inward man, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin, which is in my members, as he said earlier, in my flesh. Verse 24, O wretched man that I am, who shall deliver me from the body of this death? And then there's the answer. I thank God through Jesus Christ, our Lord. So then with the mind, I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh, the law of sin. Now, I'll also point out, just since Paul said that, that when I told you you don't put off the old man, it's not a reference to you reprogramming him or fixing him. It's a reference to putting him off, and it's a victory that's obtained only through the Lord Jesus Christ.

[15:56] All right, now moving into chapter 8, let me fast forward a little bit and catch verse number 5 of Romans chapter 8, verse 5. For they that are after the flesh do mind, there it is again, the things of the flesh. But they that are after the spirit, the things of the spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded, see the difference? The two different, the old nature and the new nature, is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God, for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be, so that they that are in the flesh cannot please God. So there's some different words and terms that are associated with the old man.

[16:37] He's called the carnal mind. And the other one's this law of God, or the, I lost it, the inward man, the spirit, what was it, of my mind, right there in Romans 7. I'm gonna not waste time. So back in Ephesians 4, the old man, there's one of its terms, and the new man. And what you have is a teaching here, and it's a doctrine. Paul describes it in Colossians chapter 2, that when you trust Christ, that God comes in and he does something called circumcision made without hands. So it's not a physical operation that a doctor performs. It's something that God's spirit performs inside of you, separating your eternal soul, which was bound to your sinful flesh, and it was in sins and dead.

[17:32] And he separates and puts life into that soul, eternal life, and he cuts him loose, Colossians chapter 2. He forgives him of all trespasses and baptizes him into the body of Christ. And that separation, that's made without hands, is a circumcision that is the putting off of the body of the sins of the flesh, Colossians chapter 2. And so as that takes place, now there's two entities present, whereas it was just one all bound together. Now there's a new man, which is not a sinner. It has got God inside of him, the spirit of God inside of him. And the old man, the other one, was just the way you were always your whole life. And it's learned and been programmed and just enjoyed sin. So the new man now, look at Colossians, or I'm sorry, Ephesians 4, verse 23 says, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man, and look at his nature, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. So now on the inside of you, this is a spiritual undertaking. It's not one you can hold on to and touch and see with your eyes, but it takes place. And how do you know this?

[18:55] The book, the word of God teaches you this. It illuminates your mind to these truths. Otherwise, you don't know it. Otherwise, you just feel different. But you don't know what's going on.

[19:07] This Bible teaches you that. You need to be in your Bible and learn these truths. And so you put off the old man, and you put on the new man. And now you're going to walk, not according to your former conversation, not as other Gentiles walk in the vanity of their mind, having the understanding darkened. Now you're going to walk in newness of life. Look at chapter 5.

[19:26] Look at Ephesians chapter 5. This thought continues, just spills right into the next chapter, where he says, Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children, and walk in love.

[19:41] And he says in verse 3, But fornication, and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints. Moving down, he says, verse 7, Be ye not therefore partakers with them, that is the children of disobedience and those sinners.

[20:01] Why? Verse 8, For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord. Walk as children of light. And there's a new walk for the new man. In verse 11, he's to have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. And we could go on, we'll get to that in the future.

[20:22] Let's come back to chapter 4. There's a new walk that's to take place in your life. You put off concerning the former conversation, the old man. Now it doesn't mean that because you're in Christ and old things are passed away, all things become new, that now all of a sudden you have new taste buds.

[20:40] But spiritually speaking, the new man has new desires. And now he has this longing to glorify his Father. And as he understands what Christ has done, he has an attitude of thankfulness to that end.

[20:53] And he wants to please God now. He feels this. Paul says, I'm a debtor. And you feel that debt to Jesus Christ for what he's done. He deserves your life. He deserves your affections.

[21:04] He deserves your obedience. And you realize that is the more you fall in love with him and walk with him. So you put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

[21:17] So in the new man, you're a son of God. Because that's a creation of God. Look back at chapter 2 and verse number 8, 9, and 10.

[21:28] When it talks about your salvation, this is where the new birth, the new life comes about. For by grace are you saved through faith, and that not of yourselves. It is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast.

[21:41] Next verse. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

[21:52] So the new man is created in righteousness and true holiness. This new creature in Christ Jesus has the nature of God in him, the spirit of God in him.

[22:03] A couple of terms here. In Galatians chapter 5, it says, Walk in the spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. That's the new man, the old man. Back in Ephesians chapter 3 and verse 16, He prays that we'd be strengthened with might by his spirit in the inner man.

[22:23] That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith. The inner man. Another term. In Romans 8, we read the term the inward man. In 1 Peter chapter 3, he's writing to the wives, and he says, Let it be the hidden man of the heart.

[22:39] In Galatians chapter 2, the Bible says that you have Christ in you. In Romans chapter 13, he says, Put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ. Put on. Put on the new man.

[22:51] Put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and ye shall not fulfill the flesh and its lust thereof. All right, Ephesians chapter 4. There's some different terms as you read through your Bible. These are all pointing to this division, to this new man, old man, new nature, old nature.

[23:07] The new nature is righteous and holy, according to verse 24. So in that new nature, there's no sin. Turn to 1 John chapter 3.

[23:18] Let's look at this one. This one is a super tricky passage to a lot of people. But when we read it, in light of Pauline doctrine, we can find an application to the two natures.

[23:36] 1 John chapter 3 and verse number 9. Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin.

[23:52] For his seed remaineth in him. That is, God's seed remaineth in him. And he cannot sin because he is born of God. The old nature is not born of God.

[24:03] The new nature is. And in verse number 1, or verse number 2 of that chapter, Now are we the sons of God. And that new nature inside of you is born of God.

[24:16] And that new man does not commit sin. And so any sin that is manifest in your life, Paul says, It's no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

[24:29] Oh, where's that other verse? I just lost it. Just came through and departed. Oh, go to Galatians 5. Found it. Galatians 5.

[24:43] And notice how Paul writes to the believer. He doesn't say or accuse you of the sin, but he calls them works of the flesh. Sins that are committed today after salvation are called works of the flesh.

[24:58] I'll start in verse number 16. Galatians 5, verse 16. This I say then, walk in the spirit.

[25:12] Didn't he tell the Ephesians to walk as children of light, to have no fellowship with the unfruitful work. Walk in the spirit, the new man, and you shall not fulfill the lusts of the flesh.

[25:24] The new man is not going to fulfill the lusts of the flesh. He's not going to have any part of it. But there's this battle. We know it. Verse 17. For the flesh lusteth against the spirit, and the spirit against the flesh.

[25:36] And these are contrary, the one to the other, so that you cannot do the things that you would. And that's the same language Paul used in Romans 7. The good that I would, that I do not.

[25:48] The evil that I would not, that I do. Why? Because there's a law. There's something I see working in my members, warring in my members against the Son of God inside of me.

[25:59] Verse 19. Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these. And here he lists the sins. You can skim through from 19, 20, and 21.

[26:10] These are sins. And they're committed by the old nature, the old man. They're works of the flesh. And so, just kind of giving an overview and not digging any further into this, it's important for you to know this and to have this concept in mind that I have two natures, two men fighting for the throne of my life to decide how I'm going to live.

[26:35] And it's easy to say one's God and one's the devil. And I'm not going to delve into that, but I would teach that. I would absolutely teach that.

[26:45] But nevertheless, maybe another day. But inside of you are two men trying to control you and run you and make your decisions for you. And when you mess up, it's important that you know it doesn't mean you're not saved.

[27:00] And it doesn't mean that you have to get saved again or get baptized again or just do a little more so that now God will be happy with me. That's the mindset of a carnal man to think I can please God and I can fix this.

[27:15] It's important to understand I messed up because I yielded to my old nature. because I put off the new man and put on the old man and I wasn't supposed to do that, but I did it.

[27:27] And so now what do I do? In 1 John chapter 1, if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. And really, the new man doesn't need a cleansing because he's never been tarnished.

[27:44] The sin never touched him. Why? Because you were circumcised. That soul was cut apart from that body of sins of the flesh. Any sin that's done is done in the old man.

[27:54] This was probably two years ago already on Wednesday night. I taught through some of this stuff and I used this screen at the time and showed from some slides and put a ton of scripture on this to help everybody see it, to see the cutting apart of the new and the old and to see this guy over here and put all the scripture on the new man where he's like in verse 24, where he's righteous and holy because God's seed remains in him and he cannot sin.

[28:22] And all the scripture associated with him versus the scripture associated with the old man, that he's corrupt according to the deceitful lust and all the fornication and uncleanness and lasciviousness, all of that is on the old man.

[28:35] When you get that knowledge that I messed up, it was me giving into my flesh, you can turn to God, you can get back in the spirit, you can go to work in the new man, you can play sports in the new man, you can go hunting in the new man, he can do all of these things, you can walk in the spirit and be doing your everyday lives and things, you can go to Walmart in the new man, but good luck staying in him.

[29:09] You can drive on the highways in the new man for a little while. But the new man, you got to understand, it's not like all of a sudden I'm just stepping into this spiritual realm and having perfect communion with God and up there.

[29:27] You can walk in the spirit and not fulfill the lust of the flesh. And you can also walk in the flesh, after the flesh.

[29:39] All right, I'm not going to go further on this. I think if you got that, that'll help you understand there's a battle. Galatians said it's warring. Peter, did I say that already? Peter said, to abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul.

[29:54] And so this is a Bible doctrine that you need to understand and you need to be familiar with. Now here we go into closing this chapter where he just gives some just basic examples or illustrations of how to do this.

[30:09] And the first one, as I mentioned, was verse 25. Wherefore, putting away lying. What's that mean, putting off the old man? That's the way the old man is. He's a liar.

[30:20] He's deceitful. He's not going to be honest. If it's going to benefit him or hurt him, he's going to lie. You know why that comes up so quickly in you is to not tell the truth or when you've done something wrong or when you might be caught or is to just find a way out of it.

[30:36] It's the old man. Shows up so fast. So Paul says, putting away lying, speak every man truth. That's what the new man does. In the new man, he's righteous and holy like his father.

[30:48] He will speak the truth. He will be clear and plain and not try to deceive. The Bible says of Jesus Christ, neither was any guile found in his mouth. The new man's like the Lord Jesus Christ.

[30:59] He's not going to deceive you. He's not going to deceive others around you. He's going to let his yea be yea and his nay be nay. So wherefore, putting away lying, but speak every man truth with his neighbor.

[31:12] Neighbor, for we are members one of another. You definitely shouldn't be lying to your fellow Bible-believing member of Christ. And now in verse 26, be ye angry and sin not.

[31:27] Let not the sun go down upon your wrath, neither give place to the devil. Now this kind of can open up into another study here, but for the context of the old and new natures, he allows anger.

[31:44] Be ye angry, that's a command now, and sin not. Now that's not a common teaching there to be angry with somebody. But be ye angry, but don't sin.

[31:56] So we need to understand what that is. I'd say the easiest thing to do is there's two kinds of anger. And there's a, as far as there's two, maybe two sources. One can be the old man and his anger.

[32:09] It's a sin of the spirit. And it's something that you're to cleanse yourself of all filthiness, of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness and the fear of God. There's two kinds.

[32:20] One can be a work of the flesh. A work of the flesh that can rise up and just turn on somebody for whatever cause. And that's pretty easily understood.

[32:31] But there's another side to this. Take your Bible and go to Mark chapter 3. Mark chapter 3.

[32:42] My, the time goes by so fast. Mark chapter 3. Here's Jesus Christ. If we want to accuse somebody of anger, let's accuse him.

[32:53] Or let's be careful and not accuse him, but understand what it is. In Mark chapter 3, and he's healing a man here.

[33:07] And he asks a question to those around that are watching. In verse 4, he saith unto them, Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath days or to do evil? To save life or to kill?

[33:20] But they held their peace. Of course they held their peace because they realize they're busted. They realize they're caught. They realize they're wrong and they're not going to admit to it. And so they're just going to be quiet.

[33:31] They're just not going to give in. They're not going to engage in this because they're dead meat if they do. And Christ, in verse 5, when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand, and so forth.

[33:49] And then the next verse, the Pharisees are ready to kill. He's looking upon them in anger, with anger, because he's grieved by them.

[34:01] Their hearts are so closed to him and to truth and he's healing a man but they're going to uphold Moses' Sabbath day and full well, in front of his face, reject God's son, their own Messiah and deliverer and pretend that they're more religious than he is.

[34:20] Get out of here. And they're so stubborn. They refusal to believe on him. And he looks on them with anger. He's angry at them. He should be.

[34:30] It's righteous. He's right. They're wrong. He's not angry because he's wrong and they're right and he's trying to defend himself or they're not fighting over something that he wants because of lust or greed.

[34:43] No, this is, he's God's holy son. He's absolutely right. They're totally in the wrong and the frustration of it all is boiling up anger inside of him.

[34:55] Look, God's angry with the wicked every day. That's righteous anger because he's right and the wicked are wrong. The Bible describes him turning, of his wrath pouring out upon some Gentiles and it says that for all this his anger is not turned away but his hand is stretched out still.

[35:15] It says it several times in one chapter and several places even that his anger is not turned away. He's angry with his people because of their sin. He has a right to be angry against sin.

[35:26] And now to apply that to you and I in the new man be ye angry and sin not. And I would say without hesitation there ought to be some things that anger you.

[35:38] If you live in this world now if you're in heaven I don't know that you'd experience it or be faced with it but when you're down here there ought to be some things that frustrate you and that ought to anger you and that ought to stir some emotion up inside of you in the new man because you love God because you love what God says you love what he wants you want his will to be accomplished down here.

[36:05] You could pray thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven if that's in your heart you want God to be glorified and yet unrighteous man refuse him and then they proclaim and they boast of their sin and they do parades and every just comes to mind I just saw it again the other day this NBA stadium I feel like it was Sacramento like come you know next Friday is pride night every one of them has a pride night they all do they're going to boast this filthy abomination before God and before man and promote it that ought to stir you to anger inside it doesn't mean that you go attack somebody it doesn't mean that you sin but it ought to inside say this is wrong it's dead wrong and I can't deal with I can't stand this stuff if you watch too much news it should make you angry it should so the one thing to do is just shut it off if you want a peaceful day and go to your Bible and sin not be angry and sin not and it says then let not the sun go down upon your wrath and what's interesting is the next verse that's a colon after verse 20 where is it 26 it doesn't end neither give place to the devil and there's some interesting thoughts that could be studied out here what does the devil have to do with any of this why is he mentioned in context with putting off the old man and putting on the new man and I believe there's a reason why and I believe that he's the daddy of the old man and Christ said that ye are of your father the devil to those Pharisees in John 8 44 and later in 1 John 3 describes Cain was of that wicked one and I believe that's a reference to something that's going on within the old man and here Paul puts his name right into the mix when he's talking about putting off that old man and putting on the new man in one case

[38:09] I quoted it in Romans 13 where he said put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ the new man is Christ in you the spirit of Christ as a matter of fact in John 14 when the comforter comes and he's in you and he shall be in you and Christ says that I'll make my father and I will make our abode with you so all three members of the Trinity in the new man but what about the old man the flesh well I think there's a spirit in him and giving place to the devil maybe we will have to study at least that phrase next week because we're pretty much out of time and Mrs. West wants to say something about something she brought so we'll put we'll put the brakes on it right there and then Lord willing come back next Sunday morning and pick it up what do you got
