[0:00] Sing to his praise from Psalm 110, and we shall sing the whole psalm, Psalm 110.

[0:15] The Lord did say unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thy foes a stool, whereon thy feet may stand. The Lord shall out of Zion send the rod of thy great power, in midst of all thine enemies be thou the governor. A willing people in thy day of power shall come to thee, in holy beauties from morn's womb thy youth like dew shall be. The Lord himself hath made an oath, and will repent him never. Of the order of Melchizedek thou art a priest for ever.

[0:58] The glorious and mighty Lord that sits at thy right hand, shall in his day of wrath strike through kings that do him withstand.

[1:09] He shall among the heathen judge, he shall with bodies dead the places fill, o'er many lands he wound shall every head. The brook that runneth in the way, with drink shall him supply, and for this cause in triumphy, he shall lift his head on high. Let us sing the whole of the psalm to God's praise.

[1:34] The Lord did say unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand. The Lord did say unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand.

[1:55] Until I gave thy foes a stool, Whereon thy feet may stand.

[2:09] The Lord shall at your side on stand, The ground of thy great fire.

[2:25] In this job of thy head, In this job of thy head, In this job of thy head, In this job of thy head, In this job of thy head, Be thou the common heart.

[2:40] How willing people in thy name, All power shall come to thee, In holy good, In this job of thy good, Thy good, Thy good, Thy good, shall be.

[3:10] The Lord himself hath made a new, And will repent in heaven, All pure and all will use today.

[3:34] The Lord that hath reached forever, Thou glorious and mighty Lord, That saves the thy right hand.

[3:57] Trow this day over ق Pride Thy十足 In such little sofほど Finorman He shall ren replay this person He shall with all his day The places where all men he last He wounds shall every head The fruit that brought us dead The way with rain shall end supply

[5:00] And for this cause in triumph He shall lift his head on high Let us join together in prayer Let us pray O Lord our God as we present ourselves in your presence As a worshipping people Enable us so to do in spirit and in truth That we would lift our eyes to the heavens And that we would find ourselves Beholding the glory of a God who is high and lifted up Sitting upon the throne Surrounded by a myriad host of angels In the company of your sin who sits at your right hand

[6:01] We give thanks that we know him to be there And that we owe much to the power of his intercession That even as we pray That we are prayed for by him As the great high priest of his people That he is the advocate with you Who pleads the cause of each one who are his On the basis of the merits of his finished work We give thanks for all that we can think of concerning that work That your world has made known to us How he came to be born into this world In the fullness of time He was born of a woman And he came in the frailty of her humanity Even as an infant Wrapped in swaddling clothes at his birth Impoverished and with no or few creature comforts

[7:05] And yet he was heralded And he was visited by the angels Who highlighted his coming And we give thanks that Even though the kings And the potentates of this world Took little knowledge of his coming Nor were they interested in it That there were still others Who had searched the scriptures And who knew That the day would come When one would come Who would be king And even though it may be That they had Little understanding of what they were What they were anticipating In your goodness And in your grace You directed Some to come And to Bear gifts Gold, frankincense and myrrh And they made themselves Themselves known

[8:06] And yet in the providence That was Behind that Through their Disclosure It visited The outpouring of the venom Of Herod upon the Heads of poor innocent infants Were it not for the case that You are the God You are the God who is sovereign That not one drop of blood That was spilled Was spilled without the knowledge Of God And without God's grace To be imparted to those Who were grieving and sorrowful We acknowledge The lack of true understanding That we have And the outworkings of your Of your providence In many ways in this world But we bless you and thank you That in a In a wisdom that is divine That all things work

[9:06] Together for good For those who Who love the Lord And your servant The apostle Was persuaded That All things No matter what they were Were ordained by you And for you And for the glory of Your cause And all who Who are bound up With the name of Christ And When the apostle Paul spoke He spoke as one Who had Faith that enabled him To believe this For I reckon he said That the sufferings Of this present time Are not worthy To be compared With the glory Which shall be revealed in us And we acknowledge That There are many times When Sorrows and And griefs Assail us Like Like in the storms Of Of Of a winter Night Beating upon the shores

[10:08] So these waves Of Of griefs and sadness Assail The hearts and the minds Of some Who are youth people In the world And all they can do Is rest Their heads upon A pillow that you have Prepared for them That says to them All things Yea all things Work Together for their good We pray that you would Remember any such Today Who are broken hearted Those whose Heart sickness Cannot Be repaired By the word of man May you speak To them Through The word That is Eternal May Christ The Lord Come into Their near Presence That he may Comfort and Console them With a word In season May you lift Their eyes To the heavens In order for that To take place Whatever they are

[11:09] In this world We remember Lord All Who are engaged In this work Of preaching The gospel And letting Others know Of that Christ May they be Encouraged in their Labours To set them Before Sinners of all Descriptions Some who have Spent their life As Sunk in sin Some who have Lived in As it seems So began To pale But you are Able to do Great things For them In making Christ Known to them That they may Be drawn to him And that they may Believe him Into the saving Of their soul So remember Those who are Preachers Encourage them In their labour Wherever they are In labouring Throughout the world We pray for Our own nation Which has gone So far from you We know So little About The

[12:10] Workings of Your providence In history There are times When There is a record Of quickening And awakening And revival We may think That such a time Will never come Our way again But just as surely As it was The darkest hour Before dawn So it may be For us That the day Of your power Is still to be Experienced by Son Who tasted Of it Many many years Ago And have not Forgotten it And who long For these days To come again May you show us That your arm Is not shortened And that you Cannot save Pour out your Spirit upon us Upon your Servants Who go out In empty That they may Find themselves Full Who find themselves Struggling to Bring word A word of Comfort and Consolation To the Broken And to the Afflicted May they find

[13:10] That there is Provision made For them Bless those Who Are in need Today Bless those Who are Unwell Those who are Being cared for By others In their own Homes or in Hospital Those who are In the frailty Of their old Age We commend Them to you And ask that You would Visit them In mercy When the Faculties of Body and Mind Begin to Fade You are Able to Stir up The embers Of your Love in Their soul That they May recognise That you Are still Their God We pray That you Would Hear Our petitions On behalf Of our Nation Our Parliaments In the Scotland And in London And we Pray that You would Remember These Those who Are Exercising Their

[14:11] Duties With regard To the People that They represent Fill their Heart with Fear of God That they May fear Them That they May fear You before They fear Man We pray That you Would Turn Any Any Design Of Evil That is In the Heart of Man We ask That you Would Visit the Nations Of the Earth Where there Is war So we Have it In the Middle East We give Thanks That there Is evidence Of peace Once again But how Often that Changes And how Quickly it Can change Because the Wickedness That is in The world Will not Abate It will Not Diminish It will Not Cease Until The cup Of wrath Is full No Lord There are Times when You have Spoken to Us Concerning Your will

[15:11] You have Made Things Plain To us But you Have also Done Things And kept Them hidden From us But there Is a day Appointed That you Have not Revealed But you Have promised When the Elect will Be called And they Will be Brought in And when That is The case Then Christ Will come In his Glory Bring his Own to Be with Him Those in The grave Will rise To be With him Those in The world Will meet Him in The air We pray That when Such a Day comes That we Are ready We pray That you Would watch Over us And all That we Entrust To your Care Bless our Homes Our Families Bless our Neighbours Our Neighbourhoods Bless our Communities Villages Townships Cities And Nations We pray That you Would remember All Cleanse From sin Continue To watch Over us In Jesus Name Amen Let us Hear the Word of God As we

[21:16] As You Can See From Your Bibles I Am Sure Most Of Them Would Describe To Us The Author Of The Psalm As David The King And The Fact is That David Has Composed Many Psalms That we Know Of And The Fact That He Composed This One Should Not At All Be Strange However When We Read The Subject Matter Of The Psalm It Seems Incredible That Such A Passion As David Could Have Composed It It Is Undoubtedly A Psalm About The Sufferings And Sufferings Not Just Of Anybody But Of The Sufferings Of The Lord Jesus Christ One

[22:17] Of The Commentators States Nothing In The Life Of David Accounts For The Events Depicted In The Psalm Whether That Is Totally True Or Not I'm Sure David Did Have Sufferings But I Don't Think He Did Have Any That Equated Perfectly To The Sufferings We Have Recorded For Us In The Psalm Yes He Did Have His Sorrows But None Are Like What We Have Here What We Have Instead Is As One Version Of King James Bible Entitles It Is The Suffering Praise And Posterity Of The Messiah Some Some Some Some Parts Some Parts of The Psalm Are Directly Coated The Psalmist Prophetically Declared What The Saviour Would Say Or The Lord As Led By The Spirit On The Cross Coated The Words

[23:17] Of The Psalm That Were Meant Exclusively For His Mouth We Can Never Spend Too Much Time Thinking About Christ Especially As He Engaged In The Act Of Suffering Unto Death On The Cross Divines Remind Us That His Whole Life Exposed Him To Suffering From The Very Beginning But They Came To A Head When He Became The One Upon Whom The Displeasure Of God Fell When He Became The Sin Bearer When He Carried The Sins Of His People I Want Our Focus To Fall On The Words Of Verse 6 In Particular Although Clearly The Psalm Is An Organic Whole I Want Us To Think Of The Words I Am Secondly I Weren And

[24:17] No Man And Thirdly I Reproached A Reproach Of Men Despised Of The People If We Ignore The Content For A Moment When We Encounter The Words I Am Coming From The Mouth Of The Almighty Or Of Christ Himself We Know This To Be A Declaration Of Deity Or Divinity If We Go Back To The Most Obvious Part Of Scripture Where This Is Brought To Our Attention Exodus 3 Chapter Exodus Chapter 3 Verse 14 We Read And God Said Unto Moses I Am That I Am And He Said Thus Shalt Thou Say Unto The Children Of Israel I

[25:18] Am Hath Sent Me Unto You And God Said Moreover Unto Moses Thou Shalt Say Unto The Children Of Israel The Lord God Of Your Fathers The God Of Abraham Of Isaac And Of Jacob Appeared Unto Me Saying Surely I Have Visited You And Seen That Which Is Done To You In Egypt In His Comments On This Passage The Late John L.

[27:47] Preacher Matthew Henry Writes I Will I Will Be With You On Sabbath Days And Weekdays Winter Days And Summer Days Wherever We Are The Word Of Christ Is Nigh As Even In Our Mouth And The Spirit Of Christ Nigh As Even In Our Heart The God Of Israel The Saviour Is Sometimes God That Hides Himself But Never A God That Absents Himself He Is Sometimes In The Dark But Never At A distance I Am We Can Understand When That I Am Is Before Us That Most Often It Invites Us To Think Of The Almighty But The Second Thing We Have Is This I Am Aware Can That Possibly Write If The First Part Of It Is Considered To Be An Invitation To Think About The

[28:47] Divine Being That Is God Father Son And Holy Spirit Can It Possibly Be Right That Connected With That In Union With That Is Aware Them Love David Warren Wiersbe Has A Brief Commentary哦 Some Psalms Which He Calls Meet Yourself In The Psalms And Psalm 22 Entitles The Forgotten I Am Clearly In His Mind There Is A Link He Remarks On An Experience He Had When Visiting At Church With A Revised Handbook And Instead Of The Words Familiar To Him would he devote that sacred head for such a worm as I?

[29:36] The words that were sung were would he devote that sacred head for sinners such as I? And he didn't think that the substitution was appropriate.

[29:52] Now there is no doubt that this speaks of the humiliation of Christ. The prophet Isaiah says of him that he was despised and rejected of men.

[30:05] If we read carefully through the psalm and it takes us to the cross, we find the cry of delineation, the mocking crowds, the forsaking friends, the raging thirst that he endured, the physical agony of crucifixion, the casting of lots, the triumph of victory.

[30:27] Any and all of these things are worthy of much closer study, and they all appear in the psalm. But specifically, he is a worm. Perhaps, as we said, identifying himself with fallen humanity, but specifically with chosen Israel as identified by the Lord God.

[30:50] For I, the Lord, thy God, will hold thy right hand, sing unto thee, fear not, I will hold thee, fear not thou worm Jacob, and ye men of Israel.

[31:05] So wrote the prophet Isaiah. This term describes how elect Israel see themselves under the influence of the Holy Spirit.

[31:16] Without the influence of the Holy Spirit, there is pride, there is self-confidence, self-reliance, independence. But when the Spirit of God comes and reveals to us the true state of our heart, we see ourselves for what we are.

[31:36] Pride has been done away with. Grace does that, does it not? John L. in his comments on the prophecy of Isaiah suggests that the words of our quotation reflect their self-evaluation, that they were worthless and of no consequence.

[31:56] And Christ identifies with them. Christ identifies with them as a worm. Some of the older preachers, they identify the fact that the crimson dye that was used to colour fabric owed its origin to the grub or the worm of a certain species of worm.

[32:38] It was crushed and crushed to leave this dark hued dye which they compared to the sprinkling of the blood of sacrifice.

[32:58] Isaiah speaks of the bruising of Christ. But the word is more reminiscent of what is done to the grape to get the juice out of it. And that is where the divines take us to the bloodstained body of Christ.

[33:13] He is a worm and no man, he says. He is divine, yet he is man, and yet no man. A subtle reference to the suffering he was forced to endure.

[33:29] Isaiah may allude to it. He has no form nor comeliness, and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. The suffering that he has to endure has disfigured him.

[33:46] They hide their faces from him. The psalmist in Psalm 69 says, Because for thy sake I have borne reproach. Shame has covered my face.

[33:57] I am become a stranger to my brethren, and an alien unto my mother's children. His own brothers and sisters could not recognize him because of the defigurement.

[34:11] He is reviled, ridiculed, rejected. A reproach of men. You remember the picture. The passers-by shake their heads.

[34:24] Their conclusion was, Surely this man must have done something awful, something terrible to make him endure such awful sufferings at the hand of God. The words of Psalm 69 again tell us why.

[34:39] The reproach of them. Those who reproach thee are fallen upon me. As Bishop Horn has it, humble, silent, innocent, oppressed, overlooked, and trodden under foot.

[34:59] Despised of the people. They did not see anything in him that would draw them to him.

[35:10] There was nothing for them in him. Principal Donald MacLeod in his work Christ Crucified writes the following, The whole of humanity is here.

[35:25] The common people are here, stripped of the romance that attributes special insight to an unsophisticated peasantry.

[35:37] They see no sign of kingship in the crucified one. The world's power, learning, and religion are equally blind, and on the other end of the scale is co-condemned.

[35:54] The veil, the incognito, was complete. He was dying to save the world, but he died not to a chorus of gratitude, but to a chorus of mockery.

[36:09] The God who is God over all, God who is infinite, inchingible in his being, his wisdom, and his power, and his goodness, justice, good, and truth.

[36:22] Here we have him displayed as some were him, despised and rejected. No man. As for me, we have it in the metrical psalm, I were him, I am, and as no man I'm prized, reproach of men I am, and by the people I'm despised.

[36:45] he was born to a world that did not know him, he came to his own and his own knew him not. He came to experience the wrath of God on behalf of his people and the very people for whom he came, despised and rejected him.

[37:08] How awful the picture the psalmist depicts for us such a saviour, such a saviour that we need to come to and we need to learn more about and we need to spend more time at his feet looking upon him if we dare, gazing upon his disfigured face however awful it would be that we might see him where we should be and see the wonder that God has seen fit to make such a provision for our life.

[37:46] May he bless to us his few thoughts. Let us pray. O Lord, our God, we marvel at your provision for those that sin has disfigured so terribly our blindness, our deafness, our lameness, every faculty of mind and body and soul so damaged by sin, so marred by sin and only when we see the damage done to Christ in his body as he encountered these sufferings that were his on our behalf can we see even a glimmer of what it involves for him.

[38:34] Hear our prayers, grant to us that desire to be found one with them who are his and to be with him and still live in his name in this world cleansed from sin.

[38:47] Go before us each one. Now may grace, mercy and peace from God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit be with you all now and always. Amen.
