[0:00] We can resume our public worship of God by singing to his place from Psalm 40. Psalm 40, and we're singing from the beginning down to the double verse marked 5.
[0:20] I waited for the Lord my God, and patiently did bear. At length to me he did incline my voice and cry to hear.
[0:32] He took me from a fearful pit and from the miry clay, and on a rock he set my feet, establishing my way. He put a new song in my mouth, our God to magnify.
[0:47] Many shall see it and shall fear, and on the Lord rely. O blessed is the man whose trust upon the Lord relies, respecting not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.
[1:03] O Lord my God, for many other wonders thou hast done. Thy gracious thoughts to us ward far, and above all thoughts are gone. In order none can reckon them to thee, if them declare and speak of them I would, they more than can be numbered are.
[1:24] And so on these verses of Psalm 40, from the beginning I waited for the Lord my God, and patiently did bear. I waited for the Lord my God, and patiently did bear.
[1:53] He took me from a fearful pain.
[2:23] And from the might of God, and patiently did bear.
[2:53] He put a new song in my mind. Our God to magnify.
[3:11] Many shall see it and shall fear, and on the Lord rely.
[3:30] O blessed is the man whose trust upon the Lord rely. O blessed is the man whose trust upon the Lord rely. O blessed is the man whose trust upon the Lord relies.
[3:51] ito O blessed is the Lord keep the bed of his confusion. O appreciate, and to be seine, Osource for my understand. Oburst is the man whose hope in His confiance is done. O blessed is the man whose trust upon the landzone only stands for them out. O blessed is the man whose trust upon the Lord lies. O blessed is the man popular priority for the Lorditchens of all the servants of these mistbread tales.
[4:03] O blessed is the man whose trust upon the力 and divine lkeyogaie to their support on the other liv事. O God, by the tacitний vida ради bow those who GOD daHeに to this earthworm, O Lord, my God, for many ath the wondrous Son has done.
[4:31] My gracious God, to us were found above all God, our God.
[4:51] Who no other none can reckon them, to give them declare.
[5:09] And speak of them, I want them all, and I've been up for now.
[5:33] Let us join together in prayer. O Lord, our God, as we begin our service of worship this evening, we give thanks for every soul present to whom the new song has been given to sing.
[5:58] Those who have discovered the awesome wonder of having their feet placed upon the rock.
[6:10] Even in the storms of life, when we are apt to be tossed to and fro, we can always return to find our feet upon the rock.
[6:27] The waves and the billows may lift us up and may come over us, and yet we are assured that the Christ, who is the Saviour, is our portion in all of the events of life's journey.
[6:54] Such a belief will be tested, and we acknowledge it as such. That just like Peter of old, we are emboldened to walk upon the waters, and yet when we take our eyes off the Lord, we find ourselves being submerged in the floods.
[7:20] We pray for wisdom to know always, to look unto Jesus as the one who is the author and finisher of our faith.
[7:34] We pray for your help for those who have yet to fix their eyes upon him, whom to know is life eternal, to be assured of his willingness to receive all who would come to him by way of faith, that they may rest upon him and the work that he has accomplished on behalf of sinners of all descriptions.
[8:05] We know that you have taken to yourself men and women, young and old, from all peoples of the earth, and we are aware of diversity among the members of the body, and yet they are fixated upon this Christ, and they are assured with the same assurance given to all, that whosoever would come to him will come to the one who has everlasting life.
[8:45] We pray for your church this evening, thankful that we can bring our concerns and cares to you, beginning here in this place and all connected with it, within the confines of our communities and beyond.
[9:08] We can pray for the congregation of believers that we represent and ask that whatever our need may be, that you may meet it far in excess of our asking.
[9:25] So we bring to you those that we know of that are unwell, those that may well be at death's door of some of these we may know nothing about, for we are not privy to the truth concerning the journey of life as to its end, other than to be confidently able to assert that at some point the end will come, and all will be ushered into the presence of God who gave life in the first instance, and in whose hand the power lies to take life away.
[10:08] So we pray for those amongst us who may be concerned for loved ones, for the loved ones themselves for whom they are concerned. We would pray for the hand of the Lord to be upon them, and that they would know the presence of God in Christ Jesus, that he may be their portion in a most certain and assured way, that they may know in their own soul that they are of that number, and that to be with him is better by fire.
[10:45] And as your people approach death's door, and as the ties that have bound them so closely to loved ones that are unloosed one by one, that they would be most persuaded that there is a tie that will remain secure, and that those who know the Lord will not be separated from him in life or in death.
[11:14] So pour out your Spirit upon all such, and turn upon ourselves as a people waiting upon you to bless us abundantly far in excess of our asking.
[11:27] With regard to the truth that is proclaimed in our hearing from Sabbath to Sabbath, from weekday to weekday, we can pray for the heavens to be opened above us, and the blessing of God to be imparted to us.
[11:45] Do not allow us to weary of so doing, but to be as one in your hand, praying that the God of all grace would pour out that blessing, remembering your people throughout the earth, especially the persecuted church.
[12:06] We are so often reminded of the trials and the travels of so many in this world who bear testimony to Christ and his grace, and yet to do so for them brings jeopardy.
[12:22] For them to speak of Christ brings the enmity that is in the world directed against Christ into their orbit of experience, and we pray for them, even those who have to endure it within the family.
[12:43] There are such. Remember, the church as it is ongoing, as it is often the case that as we read the scriptures we discover that persecution is what is used effectually to increase the number of your people, while prosperity may come, and at times through prosperity many are drawn away from putting their trust in Christ, whereas when the enemies of this world rise up and in concert seek to destroy the witness of the church, it is at that point that your people are strengthened and enabled to speak the truth even to those who are their oppressors.
[13:44] So we remember the cause of Christ worldwide in the midst of all the ongoing uncertainties that afflict the world by reason of intemperate climate where there are storms in abundance, floods and famine and famine, where there is fire and the destruction of earthquakes.
[14:11] There are so many things that are going on in the world that we are in awe of. We see neighbour rising up against neighbour in war and the enemy is equally able to resist using weapons of destruction whoever they may be.
[14:37] We are uncertain, living in uncertain times. Preserve us from evil, we pray. We would ask your blessing to be upon us now as we continue before you in this act of worship.
[14:51] Remember all that are near and dear to us, our nation and those who govern us, our king and his queen, we pray for within their family who would ask for saving grace to be in their experience, whatever they know or don't know.
[15:12] Do not let them live out their days in this world in ignorance of the only king who is king over all. Hear our prayers and petitions grant cleansing from sin in Jesus' name.
[15:27] Amen. We're going to sing to God's praise from Psalm 25, the first version of the Psalm, Psalm 25.
[15:40] At verse 4, show me thy ways, O Lord, thy path, so teach thou me. And do thou lead me in thy truth, therein my teacher be. For thou what God that does to me salvation send, and I upon thee all the day expecting to attend.
[15:58] Thy tender mercies, Lord, I pray thee to remember, and loving kindnesses, for they have been of old forever, my sins and faults of youth.
[16:10] Do thou, O Lord, forget, after thy mercy think on me, and for thy goodness great. God good and upright is, the way he'll sinners show, the meek in judgment he will guide, and make his path to know.
[16:28] The whole paths of the Lord are truth and mercy sure, to those that do his covenant keep, and testimonies pure. Let us sing these verses.
[16:40] Psalm 25, the first version of the psalm from Westfall, show me thy ways, O Lord, thy path, so teach thou me.
[16:51] Amen. Show me thy ways, O Lord, thy path, so teach thou me.
[17:09] And do thou leave me in thy path, let my teacher be.
[17:27] For thou art called the trust, to me salvation sing, and I upon thee all the day expecting good of day.
[17:59] thy tender message, Lord, I pray thee to remember and loving kindness as for thee have been afford forever.
[18:37] My sins and faults of youth could I honor all yet have thy heart she think on me and for thy goodness day.
[19:11] God good and up right is the way he'll sin her show.
[19:30] The meek in judgment he will guide and make his father good know.
[19:46] hope the hope has loved the Lord our truth and mercy shed to those that do his covenant keep and testimony is pure.
[20:26] I'm going to hear God's word as we find it in the New Testament scriptures, the gospel of Jesus Christ according to John chapter 19.
[20:39] John chapter 19. And we are going to read from verse 30.
[21:02] We'll read from verse 30 to the end. When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, it is finished.
[21:15] And he bowed his head and gave up the ghost. The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the Sabbath day, for that Sabbath day was an high day, besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.
[21:40] Then came the soldiers and break the legs of the first and of the other, which was crucified with him. But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they break not his legs.
[21:58] But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came thereout blood and water. And he that saw it, and he that saw it, and his record is true, and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe.
[22:19] For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled. A bone of him shall not be broken. And again another scripture saith, they shall look on him whom they pierced.
[22:34] And after this Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate, that he might take away the body of Jesus.
[22:49] And Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore and took the body of Jesus. And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight.
[23:09] Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes, with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury.
[23:22] Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new sepulcher, wherein was never man yet laid.
[23:36] There laid day Jesus, therefore because of the Jews' preparation day. For the sepulcher was nigh at hand.
[23:48] Amen. And may the Lord have his blessing to our reading of this word. And to his name be the praise. We can sing again to God's praise this time, singing from Psalm 34 and verse 16 to the end.
[24:08] Psalm 34 from verse 16. The face of God is set against those that do wickedly, that he may quiet out from the earth, cut off their memory.
[24:23] The righteous cry unto the Lord, he unto them gives ear, and they out of their troubles all by him delivered are. The Lord is ever nigh to them that be of broken spirit.
[24:39] To them his safety doth afford, that are in heart contrite. The troubles that afflict the just in number many be, but yet at length out of them all the Lord doth set him free.
[24:55] He carefully his bones doth keep, whatever can befall, that not so much as one of them can broken be at all.
[25:06] Ill shall the wicked slay, laid waste shall be who hate the just. The Lord redeems his servant's souls, none perish that him trust.
[25:19] We can sing these verses of Psalm 34 from verse 16 to the end. The face of God is set against those that do wickedly.
[25:30] The face of God is set against those that do wickedly, that he may quiten from the earth that do wickedly.
[26:03] The righteous cry unto the Lord, He has given them that do wickedly.
[26:18] The righteous cry unto them, And the righteous cry unto them, And the righteous cry unto them, And the righteous cry unto them, By him delivered are.
[26:36] The Lord is ever nigh to them, The Lord is ever nigh to them, That be of broken's good.
[26:52] To them he saved each other, Now may exceed the dific Komb Пр距離.
[27:04] Amen. The Sahaja's Son's Son's Son One By No Man Be Nigh Just can love for many be.
[27:28] But yet at length of them all, the Lord has set them free.
[27:43] He carefully his false john keep whatever can befall that not so much as one of them unbroken be at all.
[28:19] Who shall the wicked sleep? Little wish shall be the just.
[28:36] The Lord redeems his seren souls unherish not in Christ.
[28:53] I'd like us for a short time to turn to John chapter 19 and to the section of the chapter that we read at verse 31.
[29:12] The Jews therefore because it was the preparation that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the Sabbath day for that Sabbath day was an high day.
[29:25] Besought Pilate that their legs might be broken and that they might be taken away. And so on. The chapter before us contains the account of the crucifixion of Christ and the judgment that precedes it.
[29:52] And it is very detailed in recording for us much of the sufferings of the Lord Jesus. Each one of the synoptic gospels and this gospel of John records the point at which Jesus dies.
[30:17] When Jesus, in verse 30, we read John saying, When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished.
[30:29] And he bowed his head and gave up the ghost. The other three gospels have a similar account but they emphasize the fact that Jesus spoke aloud.
[30:50] He spoke with a loud voice and all who were in close proximity to the cross heard what he had to say. And although John doesn't specify that the words that he said it is finished are heard by all.
[31:15] who were close by. And we understand from the account that we are given in the gospel that to mean that his physical sufferings were at an end and that his spiritual sufferings were at an end and that the sufferings that he had to bear as the Christ of God who was on the cross bearing the sins of his own people.
[31:59] The outpouring of God's wrath was at an end and that itself is something that requires careful scrutiny.
[32:19] Dr. Kennedy who was a minister in Dingwall many years ago spoke often about the sufferings of Christ in his preaching.
[32:32] But he says this it's helpful just to take note of what he says. Jesus had a perfect appreciation of the awfulness of divine anger.
[32:49] He was perfectly assured that it bore on him as the surety of the unjust. He actually came in contact with the flaming fire of the expression of that wrath in all the sensitiveness of his perfect holiness.
[33:14] We might think when we read about the sufferings of Christ that the extremity of them is seen in the malice that was directed towards him that resulted in his physical sufferings.
[33:34] We may even equate the mental sufferings that he had to endure because concerted concentrated enmity was directed against him as he was on the cross and even if he is the Lord of glory and he most surely is he could not endure that without filling the full extent of it.
[34:17] but that was not the heart of his sufferings. There was part of it, an inevitable part of it, but what he had to endure as the sin bearer was the wrath of God poured out upon him.
[34:37] And there is, you can go so far in trying to understand what that involves and yet you have to draw back because it's a mystery.
[34:51] A mystery to us in many respects. But as many as have looked at Christ and as have seen in Christ the answer to their need, a predicament created by reason of their sin, they have an answer in Christ.
[35:16] Somebody recently said that there were objections raised by some in a certain congregation because of an emphasis that was in the preaching against sin.
[35:35] Preaching against sin was felt by some as an overemphasis. sin but how can there be an overemphasis on sin if it does not lead to an understanding of God's grace in Jesus Christ in providing a remedy for their sin.
[36:06] The greater awareness that we have of our sin, the greater appreciation of God's grace in Christ Jesus surely. This chapter is not an easy read by any manner of means.
[36:26] It tells us what Christ had to endure. But we want to look at the verses that come after Jesus says.
[36:41] It is finished. Because strangely while Jesus has entered into the realms of death willingly he gave himself to death.
[36:53] Death didn't lay hold of Christ. Christ gave himself to death. that's probably the emphasis that many find in the loud voice that came from the cross that showed that he was not there.
[37:12] And very often you find the commentators emphasize how certain the death of Christ was. How quickly he died comparatively speaking.
[37:27] And they attribute that to a loss of blood because of the extreme torture that he suffered. Because he was brutally scourged.
[37:39] He had a crown of thorns plaited upon his head. He had the nails piercing his hands and his feet. And inevitably they say he died.
[37:53] He expired. Very quickly. But that really is not the answer. The answer was that he endured the sufferings that he needed to endure until the cup was drained.
[38:09] Until the sufferings that God meant for him as the sin bearer had been met, had been fulfilled. That God required of him that his wrath would be endured by the only one possible.
[38:30] The only person who could possibly do so and that was the God man. But we're looking at what follows on from that. You would think that everything was at an end that Christ had endured and it is finished meant that he needed to endure no more.
[38:53] And yet we find three or four things that occurred after that that remind us of the awful context of his sufferings.
[39:10] The first thing that we want to look at is very briefly that in the words of the apostle bringing to her attention what took place the Jews therefore because it was the preparation that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the Sabbath day for that Sabbath day was an high day besought Pilate that their legs might be broken and that they might be taken away.
[39:45] There is a perverse interest in the law that is brought home to us in this statement that the death of Jesus was unjust I'm sure you all appreciate that that he had to appear before what was ostensibly a kangaroo court that had no right to meet as it did it had no right to pronounce a sentence of death upon him which it did we know that Pilate pronounced sentence a capital sentence upon him and yet he was convinced of his innocence the perversity of his death is something that is brought home to us in the account that we have within the gospels
[40:45] Jesus had no right to die if the laws had been observed as they should have been and yet he died and we know why he died but the very people who were responsible for his death on the basis of a desire to observe the law themselves request that Jesus body is further maltreated the reason that they give is that it was the preparation and that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day for the sabbath day was a high day they are so religious so highly motivated by observation of what they believe the law of
[41:47] God to require of them that they cannot endure the thought of the body of Christ in particular but any of the bodies these two others that were slain with them that they should remain on the cross on the eve of the sabbath day which was the sabbath of the passover weekend and they approach the pilot and they beg the body to be treated in the way that they seek it seems incredible does it not how any person knowingly do what they do and do it with all manner of crass corruption seething in their heart and yet they are blindly ignorant of the fact that they are going to in some way by another righteous act in their mind fulfill
[43:04] God's law how can that possibly be how can any person think be so blind as to do such an evil act as to crucify the son of the most high God the innocent one that they could not justifiably find reason to punish in the way that they did and having done that then on the pretext of wanting to preserve the righteousness that they believed they possessed to have him surely killed which is what it was wanting now there shall suppose there shall a difference of opinion or maybe several opinions as to what exactly this special day or the high day that they were talking about meant certainly the death of Christ took place on the eve of the
[44:16] Passover the Sabbath day the Saturday was the day of the Passover observation the preparation was the day before which is Friday when he died the Jewish reckoning of the days means that by sunset of that day the new day would come when the sun was set the new day would begin to be counted so they were obsessed with observing the truth that they knew the scripture set before them and with that obsession they didn't want the feast to be sullied by Christ and his fellow those who were on the cross alongside to pollute the day by remaining on the cross the Jewish law also required that if a person was hanged on a cross if he had been hanged on a tree it was required that the body would be removed from the cross before the following day came because by leaving it on the cross or leaving it hanging they were polluting the day and polluting those who entered into the day so there was probably a duality of reasons in their mind when they came to do that to save the land from being polluted and to save this most sacred day from being polluted to their way of thinking just like
[46:08] Pilate went to wash his hands of all that he had done their actions were futile God would hold them accountable for what they did regardless of how many seemingly righteous acts they seemed to be desperate to pursue so that's the first thing we have here we have a desire a perverse desire to observe the law and to observe righteousness the second thing we are confronted with is a partial obedience to a sovereign command if you'll notice they went to Pilate to ask Pilate to send the soldiers to break the legs of those who were on the cross I'm sure you know the reason for that but whoever was being crucified on a cross they were hanging by nails the body's weight was being held up by the nails that pierced their feet and their hands but as their weight was placed upon the nails they would find themselves in danger of suffocation and in order to avoid that they would press their feet on the nails no matter how painful it was they would push down upon the nails so that their body was held up and that they would avoid the suffocation that they were exposed to which is why they wanted their feet to be broken because once their feet were broken they would no longer be able to hold up the weight of their bodies and historians tell us that this was a very common occurrence that the brutality almost makes you want to avoid it but that's what they would go out with whatever was at hand but sometimes they thought that it was so organised they would take a heavy mallet or hammer and they would break the leg bones of the criminal that was on the cross and that included
[48:39] Christ so they came with that instruction from Pilate to break the legs of the three that were on the cross and that's why I say it's a partial obedience which seems strange from my perspective it seems strange because the Roman soldiers that were involved they were Roman soldiers they weren't Jews Jewish soldiers they were Roman soldiers and they were responsible for keeping the garrison safe and they were well drilled they were soldiers who were chosen to serve in that particular region because it was a very volatile region and they didn't just allow any soldier to go there because they needed to be good at their work and they were and these soldiers would have been disciplined and they would have been obedient to the command that they were given but when they came to
[49:47] Christ they didn't break his legs and the reason that this given was that he was already dead now that is sufficient grounds I suppose on the face of it for them not to do that they saw that he was already dead but believe you me they would fulfil their command to the letter and the reason they didn't break his legs is there was a greater authority responsible for what they did and that authority was none other than God himself and his command prohibited what they did prohibited what they were intending to do in verse 36 for these things were done that the scripture should be fulfilled a bone of him shall not be broken we sang in psalm 34 in verse 22 of that psalm words which are considered to be at least a partial understanding of what was promised by
[51:06] God when it came to Christ a bone of him should not be broken but more importantly going back further you will remember the connection that there is between the death of Christ and the Passover that in the instructions that the Jews received at the very outset concerning the observance of the Passover meal the lamb that they were to consume should be prepared very much as God commanded it and one command that applied to them in the manner in which they ate it and the manner in which they prepared it not a bone of that lamb was allowed to be broken it's amazing is it not how the prophecy how the word of God so so many years beforehand insisted that it was pointing to to the lamb of
[52:11] God which takes away the sin of the world and when the sacrifice came to be offered when Christ the Passover came to be offered this had to be kept the way God commanded it not a bone of him shall be broken an act that was not only ordained by Roman authority and yet it is according to the divine will and there's a second prophecy that we find there again this was not ordained by the Roman authorities and yet it was fulfilled because we read one of the soldiers with a spear pierced to side and forth with came there out blood and water another brutal act and yet there is no evidence to suggest that this was an order given to him to do but he did it nevertheless he took a spear and he pierced the side of
[53:31] Christ now there's all kinds of conversations ongoing about the meaning of this statement once the side of Christ was pierced there flowed out blood and water for a purely medical reason it is suggested that when the spear pierced the side it went up towards the heart and when it pierced the heart the blood and the water came out that came out simultaneously was an indication that at that point the Lord was already dead medical science proved as much now whether there is more to it than that and some maintain that there is the prophecy of the Old Testament was fulfilled in
[54:36] Zechariah chapter 12 we read I will pour upon the house of David and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem the spirit of grace and of supplication and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced and they shall mourn for him as one mourneth for his own only son and shall be in bitterness for him as one that is in bitterness for the first born for his first born a fulfillment of scripture yet again and while there is debate about the significance of the event there is no debate as to the factuality about what to place not only was he pierced with nails he was also pierced with the spear of the soldier the reality of it was later referred to in the experience of
[55:43] Thomas do you remember that when Thomas was missing when Jesus revealed himself to the disciples and Thomas came back when Jesus was there and Jesus gave the invitation put your fingers into into my the print of the nails put your fist into the wound in my side it's more or less what these words say the physical wounds that marked Christ out were not lost in whatever body Christ possessed it was not a glorified body but it was a resurrected body but it was recognizable in the physical evidence of his death and
[56:53] Thomas was encouraged to avail himself of that to prove his faith or to strengthen his faith but the important part is that all that took place here was according to God's provision God's pronouncement God's promise nothing was left undone that God meant to be done and then finally there is the evidence that John was himself present as a perfect proof of the actual events we believe that the scripture itself is sufficient for us to believe anything that is written there we can trust in it it is God's word and it brings to us an accurate account of whatever it is that's presented to us but John says more than that he that saw it he says bear record and his record is true and he knows that he saith true that you might believe for all these things were done that the scripture should be fulfilled and that's the mystery of the way
[58:20] God does things things are done almost in order to fulfill prophecies rather than prophecy pointing us to what will actually happen and that we read forward from the point of prophecy and the emphasis the Bible puts upon the fulfillment of prophecy is that these things were done in order that does if God is saying this is to help you understand this is to help you appreciate that everything that was done everything that took place it had a purpose it had a reason and the double explanation or the double emphasis that we are given here by John himself when we think about the Christ who suffered on the cross there are many things we need to remind ourselves of of course the sufferings are at the heart of what we think of but we should always remember that none of these things took place unbeknown to God none of these events occurred without
[59:40] God being at the heart of them he could have prevented everything that took place where it is will to prevent it but what was the point of preventing it if it was in order for the salvation of sinners to be as complete and entire as it is Jesus himself on the cross he says in verse 28 Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished that the scripture might be fulfilled said I thirst that seems a bit strange isn't it surely he was thirsty surely he didn't need the scripture to say that he was thirsty but he says in order for the scripture to be fulfilled he said I thirst it seems that God is telling us look at this and you look at the awesome wonder of
[60:45] God's way of salvation look at this and you see that every detail of what was accomplished had a reason had a purpose some of it we might not understand some of it we might not even see but nothing bar nothing that was done was done without a reason and I pray that God would help us when we look at all aspects of the life and the living and the death and the resurrection of Jesus Christ that we would be inspired to believe what we see for the good of our soul well may God bless to us these few thoughts let us pray Lord oh God we give thanks that you are a God who you has brought into this world the son of the almighty and that in this world he lived in poverty he lived in humility he experienced humiliation and he experienced death itself even the crucial death of the cross but we give thanks that he rose from the dead and that his word gives account to us of the implications of what his death involved and what his resurrection involves for his people may we have eyes to see and may we have the ability by faith to put our trust in such a Christ we pray your blessing upon him and all who remember on this day as he was held up between heaven and earth on the cross those who by faith look to him may the healing that is that is death praise be a portion to them forgive sin in
