[0:00] Good morning.
[0:30] Welcome to the house of God. And we pray once more it will be the voice of God that we hear. The face of God that we see and above all the blessing of God that we know.
[0:45] So let's begin our service of worship by singing from Psalm 34 verses marked 1 to 7 which is four stanzas.
[0:57] Psalm 34 verses marked 1 to 7. God will I bless all times. His praise my mouth shall still express.
[1:11] My soul shall boast in God. The meek shall hear with joyfulness. And we'll go down to verse 7. The angel of the Lord encamps and round encompasses all those about that do in fear and then deliver us.
[1:29] Psalm 34 verses 1 to 7. God will I bless all times. God will I bless all times.
[1:40] God will I bless all times. My love shall do express. God will I bless all times.
[1:51] My soul shall boast in God. God will I bless all times. God will I bless all times.
[2:04] God will I bless all times. God will I bless all times.

[7:03] God we pray for that we ask for that acknowledging we are utterly unworthy of such blessing that Christ died for such a reason we thank you you have put in writing Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures therefore we have hope therefore we believe give us this faith that believes to the saving of the soul make us new people in Christ we pray bless our meeting and may it be a meeting with your son around his word your word because he is the word made flesh hear our petitions and prayers

[12:06] hands of the godless be pleased to raise up in church and state those who would lead us back to your word and your ways please for your own name's sake now gracious father be with those that we have forgotten to pray for be pleased to prepare us for anything unexpected in your will we know not what a day will bring forth but we know that all things work together for good to those that love you number us among that blessed people now lord return to your word help us sing it pray it expound it open our ears convict us challenge us encourage any who are discouraged enlighten any walking in darkness strengthen the weak feed the hungry soul oh lord please you feed the hungry soul oh lord restore any backsliding wandering sinner please restore for your own name's sake stretch out that long heart and bring them back to the fold now hear now forgive now bless for we pray all in christ's name for your glory amen boys and girls see these glasses I've got
[14:00] I can see thousands and thousands of miles away with them isn't that something I can see thousands and thousands of miles away with them but you know this without them I can still see thousands and thousands of miles away you know that and I'm going to tell you something else so can you do you know that do you know you can see something thousands and thousands of miles away you can tell me have you ever seen a star in the sky of course you have there are thousands and thousands of miles away but you know this if you look out the window now you'll not see a star isn't that funny it's got to be dark before you can see a star it's got to be pitch dark before you can see a star isn't that something you can see something thousands of miles away if it's pitch dark but you can't see something near you it's got to be dark to see some things thousands of miles away there's a spiritual lesson there boys and girls you have to learn it as you grow up
[15:35] God sometimes has to put us in darkness so that we'll see something bright in him that we'll not see it until we go through dark dark times and we've usually got to wait until the dark times pass before we realise we've seen it but you remember there's some things you can only see if it's dark a star is one of them and as you grow older in life you'll ask yourself why is God putting me through this dark time it's a hard time it's a sad time it's a difficult time but God puts you through it so that you'll see something in the dark that you can't see in the light like a star you can't see a star in the light but you can see it in the dark
[16:37] God wants to show us things in the darkness that we can't see in the light and there's a verse in the bible and it says all things all things everything that happens works for good to those who love God and you'll have to ask yourself sometimes if you become a Christian you'll say why does God let that happen to me when he loves me well it's so that you might see something in that dark experience you can't see when everything's going fine so you remember that text all things work together for good to those that love God okay next time you see a star you remember that and prepare for hard times that may be coming okay very good well we're going to continue singing where we left off
[17:42] Psalm 34 verse 8 to 13 to God's praise O taste and see that God is new her can turn his place where God is dead God that fear won't won't won't
[19:13] The Lord shall not again be due. O children, never do ye come.
[19:32] And unto thee, every earth. I shall use it to understand.
[19:47] How ye the Lord to fear. O mammy, see the fine peace out.
[20:03] To see good Lord, live on. Thy rich sweet winds from speaking guide.
[20:20] And from the words I tell. Amen.
[20:33] Let's turn in our Bibles to the New Testament. To Paul's letter to the Romans chapter 1. Romans chapter 1.
[20:45] And we'll read the first 21 verses.
[20:57] Romans 1 at the beginning. Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God, which he had promised afore by his prophets in the Holy Scriptures, concerning his son Jesus Christ our Lord.
[21:25] Which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh, and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness by the resurrection from the dead.
[21:41] By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name. Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ, to all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints.
[22:04] Grace to you, and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. First, I thank my God, through Jesus Christ, for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world.
[22:24] For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers, making request if by any means now at length I might have a prosperous journey by the will of God to come unto you.
[22:47] For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end you may be established.
[23:00] That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me. Now, I would not have you ignorant brethren, that oftentimes I purposed to come unto you, but was led hitherto, that I might have some fruit among you also, even as among other Gentiles.
[23:27] I am debtor both to the Greeks and to the barbarians, both to the wise and to the unwise.
[23:38] So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also. For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
[24:04] For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith, as it is written, the just shall live by faith.
[24:18] For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who hold truth in unrighteousness.
[24:34] Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them, for God hath showed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead.
[25:02] So that they are without excuse, because that when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful, but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
[25:28] And may God bless to us with every reading of his word. So we'll sing once more in Psalm 34.
[25:42] Again singing where we left off, verse 14. Psalm 34, verse 14. Depart from all, do good, seek peace, pursue it earnestly.
[25:54] God's eyes are on the just. His ears are open to their cry. And we go down to verse 18. The Lord is ever nigh to them that be of broken spirit.
[26:11] To them he safety doth afford that are in heart contrite. Psalm 34, verses 14 to 18.
[26:22] Depart from all, do good, seek peace, pursue it earnestly.
[26:37] The Lord's eyes are on the just. The Lord is here, God, O world to the kind.
[26:53] The face of God in the second years, Lord, that you wickedly, That you wickedly, God, O world to the earth, God, O world to the earth, The righteous cry unto the Lord, Be unto them, give the earth, That they are told, They're troubled, God, O world to the earth, God, O world to the earth, The Lord is never right to them,
[28:01] That they are broken spirit, To them we say, Jesus, the poor, The God in heart all night.
[28:23] Amen. Let's turn in our Bibles to the passage of Scripture, Which we read in the epistle of Paul to the Romans, Chapter 1, And as God would help me, As I'd like to concentrate on verse 16.
[28:53] Romans, chapter 1, verse 16. For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, For it is the power of God unto salvation To every one that believeth, To the Jew first, And also to the Greek.
[29:16] For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, For it is the power of God unto salvation To every one that believeth.
[29:36] Now, why would anyone be ashamed of the gospel of Christ? Well, just think about it From the world's point of view.
[29:51] Think about it from the man in the street, The religious public, if you like. Think about the gospel story, How it sounds to them.
[30:04] To them the gospel story, Well, it is true, this is it. A carpenter's son Claimed to be God.
[30:16] But he ended up Being crucified. And then, He rose from the dead. He rose from the dead. And he became lord of the whole universe.
[30:32] And anyone, Anyone, Anywhere, Who believes in him, Will have their lives Changed forever.
[30:47] Now, To the irreligious public, That just seems fanciful. Just sounds fanciful. And today, If you take it too seriously, You can lose your job over it.
[31:02] That's how it sounds, To the irreligious public. What about the, What about the, What about the religious people?
[31:14] What do they think of that story? Well, Any guru, Claiming to have divine power, Who ends up being crucified by his enemies, Well, That's a contradiction in terms.
[31:31] If he's got divine power, How can he not look after his own life? How can he look after the souls of, Thousands, Millions, If he can't look after his own life?
[31:44] That's how it sounds, To unconverted people. But it's the gospel, And Paul, Persists, In preaching it, Is because, He's not, Ashamed of it.
[32:09] Now, Paul, Was a very intelligent man. Paul was extremely, Well educated. Those who study these things, Tell us, That by the time he was 21, Think about it.
[32:27] By the time he was 21, He had today's equivalent, Of two PhDs. That's pretty clever.
[32:38] That's quite smart. That's the man, That is not ashamed, Of the gospel. Two PhDs, By the time he was 21.
[32:55] The man, We're reading about, Was not ashamed of the gospel, Was no moron. No rookie. We're not talking here, About some misguided, Deranged psychopath, Who's got a huge chip, On his shoulder.
[33:13] Highly intelligent, Extremely well educated, And he says, I am not, Ashamed, Of the gospel, Of Christ.
[33:27] Now you might say, Oh well that's all, Well at the beginning, Of his ministry, Plenty of people, Have started off, In the ministry, Full of the gospel, And they've packed it in later. This is Paul, The apostle.
[33:40] Highly educated, Very intelligent, I'm not ashamed, Of the gospel. So, Let's fast forward, In his life.
[33:51] He's been preaching, The gospel for years, And he lands in prison, And he's writing a letter, To the church of the Colossians, That's in the Bible.
[34:07] He's in prison. He's writing this from prison. Why is he in prison? Because he's preaching the gospel.
[34:20] The persecution of Nero's terrible. And he's in prison, Those preaching the gospel. Paul is in prison, And he's writing to the church of Colossae.
[34:32] They're very sad he's in prison. They're actually confused. What does he say to them? Is he still not ashamed of the gospel? What does he say to the church of Colossians?
[34:46] Well, you can read it in chapter 4. He says there, Pray for me, Actually, the last chapter, Pray for me, For an open door.
[34:58] So that, What? He asks him to pray, That he'll get out of prison. So that, He'll be free, And be able to do what he likes.
[35:12] Is that why he prays? Is that what he asks for? No, no, Read it for yourselves. Colossians 4, chapter 2. So that I might preach boldly.
[35:23] Boldly. And he's just been put in prison for it. And he says, Pray that I'll get out of here, So I can preach it again. More boldly.
[35:35] Why do you do that? He's not ashamed of the gospel. He really isn't. So he's not ashamed of the gospel, As he starts his ministry in Rome, And he's not ashamed of his ministry, In the middle of his preaching years, In Colossae.
[35:56] What about the end of his life? He's in prison again, For preaching the gospel. And he writes his last letter.
[36:11] That is the last letter That's recorded in scripture. Which could very well be This last letter he wrote. Possibly is. And he's writing it to his successor, Timothy.
[36:24] It's the book in the Bible Called 2nd Timothy. And he's writing to him. How has the gospel treated him?
[36:34] As he preached it all his life now. He's just received word. As he wrote, Write 2nd Timothy, He's just received word That in a few days, He'll be beheaded.
[36:47] And according to secular history, After he wrote 2nd Timothy, He was executed. What does he say in this last letter To his successor?
[37:00] What does he say about preaching the gospel? Does he say, Timothy, You are taking my place. Be very, very careful, son.
[37:11] Be very careful, You're not in prison like me. That's what he says. Paul has been scourged Five times.
[37:25] Falling out of the authorities For preaching the gospel. Now, by the way, Have you noticed how the Bible Says he's been scourged first? He says, Five times I received 40 minus 1 stripes.
[37:43] Scourging was the most painful, The most painful punishment You could get. Paul was scourged Five times For being, Preaching the gospel.
[37:59] Why does the Bible say, You don't find the Bible saying, He received 39 lashes. It says, 40 minus 1.
[38:13] It's a strange way of saying it, Isn't it? It is 39. It's a strange way of saying it. Why? Why is that the way the Bible says it? I understand.
[38:25] It's because At the 40th last You could be killed. The 40th last Could kill a person. Five times Paul received 39 lashes.
[38:41] It was the most painful Experience you could have And still be alive. Paul's writing His last letter To his successor.
[38:53] Does he say, Take care, Timothy, You don't get scourged. Is that what he says? What does he say? He says, Read it for yourself.
[39:06] 2 Timothy Preach the word In season And out of season Preach it. Why on earth Would he do that?
[39:18] You know why? Because he's not Ashamed Of the Gospel Now, Time to ask Why is he not Ashamed Of the Gospel?
[39:34] He really wasn't, Was he? Why? I'll mention Three things. Number one, He's not ashamed Of the Gospel Because he knows It's true.
[39:50] It's real. My friend, Christianity Is about Truth. It is not A hobby.
[40:02] Christianity Is not A pastime. It's a reality. It is a The Gospel Is a Credible Authentic World View.
[40:20] He spent Years in Arabia Studying it After he was Converted to Christ. Before Paul Was converted To Christ He considered Jesus Christ To be an Imposter.
[40:35] And he Considered His duty Before God To destroy Christianity Until he Met Christ On the Damascus Road.
[40:48] But it Contradicted Everything he Taught before Then. So he went Into Arabia And for years Studied the Word. He knows What he's Talking about.
[41:01] The Gospel Is real. The Gospel Is true. And he's Not ashamed Of it. That's the First reason. There's Another reason I'll mention Why he's Not ashamed Of the Gospel.
[41:20] Not only Is it True It's Extremely Relevant To everyone To every Human Being.
[41:33] The Gospel Is so Relevant. You see There are Many things That are True. Dead True. But they're Not all that Important.
[41:45] The Gospel Is exceedingly Important To every Human Being Out of Hell. It's about Reality.
[42:03] It's about The meaning Of life. The Gospel Is about Life After Death. The Gospel Is about The Super Natural.
[42:23] Sadly We today Live in An age That doesn't Really Believe In the Super Natural. Just listen To the Politicians.
[42:36] Just listen To someone That is Raised up Into a Position Of Power. And they'll Say Our Government Will Do This. Our Government Will Do That.
[42:49] And they Can't do It because Something happens In Providence That is so Obvious We Human Beings Are Not In Control Of This World.
[43:04] God Controls This World. God Is Ruling This World. Paul Knew That. And he's Not Ashamed Of the Gospel Because It's True.
[43:21] And Because It's So Relevant To Every Human Being Out Of Hell. But There's Something Else.
[43:34] There's Another Reason. And I'm Going to Mention Why Paul's Not Ashamed Of The Gospel. Something Can Be True. And Something Can Be Extremely Relevant.
[43:47] But What Is The Use Of It If It Has No Power No Power To Transform So Paul Is Not Ashamed Of The Gospel Not Just Because It's True Not Just Because It's So Relevant For Every Human Being But Because It Has Power That's Our Text I Am Not Ashamed Of The Gospel Of Christ For It's The Power Of God And To Salvation To Everyone That Believes The Gospel Has Power To Change And Transform Lives Did I Say Lives It Has Power To Change And Transform Societies And
[44:50] Paul knew That On The Damascus Rod When He Met Christ It Reminds Me Of An English Poet Oh My I Forgot His Name I Can't Remember His Name It Might Come To Me And He Said At One Time In His Life Christopher Morley That Was His Name Christopher Morley An English Poet He Said At One Time I Had I Had A Million Questions To Ask God When I Met Him But When I Did Meet Him All These Questions Fled From My Mind And It Did Did Not Seem To Matter They Weren't Important In The Slightest He
[45:56] Faced The So God He Saw How Powerful God Was And All These Questions His Million Questions Utterly Irrelevant When He Met God My Friends We Need To Meet God And We Can Only Meet God Through Christ And That's Why This Gospel Is The Gospel Of Christ So It's Time To Ask What Is The Gospel What's This Tremendously Powerful Thing Where Do We Start Well I Think It's Very Wise To Start Where Paul Started Start Where The Bible Starts
[46:57] Here's Paul Writing To The Church At Rome He Tells He Tells Us He He Told Us We Read It In Verse Thirteen I Purpose To Come Unto You But Was Let Hither To He Wanted Above All To Go To Rome And Preach The Gospel As It Were In Nero's Den But Providence Prohibited Him God Didn't Let Him I Find That Very Encouraging When I Make Plans And They Don't Come About Paul Had The Same Experience I Purpose To Come Unto You But Was Let Hither To I Wanted To Come He Said That I Might Have Some Fruit Of You But God Said No Well Paul Is
[47:57] Not Ashamed Of His Gospel And He Is Writing To The People To The Church Of Rome The Christians In Rome To Explain The Elementary Basic Fundamental Doctrines Of Christianity Because He Couldn't Get There He Writes A Letter Laying Out Just The Basic Fundamental Principles Of Christianity So Here He Is Starting Where Does He Start He Starts With Verse 18 He Starts With The Wrath Of God Verse 18 For The Wrath Of God Is Revealed From Heaven Against All Ungodliness And Unrighteousness Of Men Who Hold And That Would Be Better Translated Who Hold Down The Truth In Unrighteousness So We Explain The Gospel Starting Off With The
[48:57] Wrath Of God You See The Starting Point In Explaining The Gospel Is Not Really God Is Love God Listen God Is Love God Is Love But It's Not Where You Start Explaining The Gospel You Start By Saying God Is Holy And God Because He's Holy Must Punish Sin But Because God Is Love He Has Found A Way To Get Round That As It Were For Lack Of A Better Word But The Gospel Is Not God Over Looking Sin
[49:58] It's God Panishing His Son Jesus Christ Instead Of The Guilty Person He Wants In Heaven With Him God Must Punish Sin Otherwise He Stops Being Holy God God God And That Can't Happen Because He's Holy He Must Punish Sin The Wrath Of God Is Revealed From Heaven Against All Ungodliness And Unrighteousness Of Men Interesting How he
[50:59] Defines Sin There Ungodliness Unrighteousness Unrighteousness Interesting Isn't It Maybe You're Here Today And You Say Wait A Minute I Do My Best I Honestly Do My Best For My Family I Work Hard For My Boss I Am As Kind As I Can Be To My Neighbour I Don't Do Anything Wrong I Don't Have Any Sin Well Sin Is Defined Here As Ungodliness And Unrighteousness You Know I Was Looking In The Bible Once For That Text God Is Angry With The Sinner Every Day Do You Know Something It's Not In The Bible There's No Verse In The Bible That Says God Is Angry
[51:59] With The Sinner Every Day I Thought There Was Do You Know What The Bible Says God Is Angry With The Wicked Every Day Are You Saying Ah But I'm Not Wicked I'm Doing My Best For Everyone God Defines Sin Not You Not Me Not The Government Not The Police Either God Defines Sin Who Are The Wicked Here's The Wicked Psalm 10 Verse 4 God's Definition Of The Wicked Psalm 10 Verse 4 The Wicked Through The Pride Of His Countenance Will Not Seek After God God Is Not In All His Thoughts Is
[53:02] God In All Your Thoughts Are You Seeking God If Not God Defines You As Wicked Psalm 10 Verse 4 God's Definition Of Who The Wicked Are And He's Angry With You Every Day If You're Not Seeking Him Every Day And Here Is The Definition Again You can See The Wrath Of God Is Against Ungodliness And Unrighteousness If You Are Happy To Live Without God Wicked In God's Eyes You're Wicked In God's Eyes You're Unrighteous If You Would Rather Keep God Out Of Your Life
[54:02] You're Wicked In God's Eyes That's The Background To The Gospel Every Human Being In God's Eyes Is Wicked My God There's A Gospel What Is The Gospel To That Wonderful Sorry That Terrifying Truth We're All Wicked Because We're Not Seeking God We're Quite Happy To Live Without God We Can Be As Good As We Like But We're Living Without God Wicked Wicked So Here Comes The Gospel What Is The Gospel Because God Chose To Punish His Son At Calvary's Cross He Is Able To Make To Every Human Being A Genuine
[55:03] Offer Of Instant Forgiveness Of Sins Past Present And Future Through Repentance Of Our Past Lives And Faith In Jesus Christ Let Me Say It Again The Gospel Is A Genuine Offer From God To Every Soul Everywhere Irrespective Of Who You Are Irrespective Of What You've Done Irrespective Of Your Background Irrespective Of Your Behaviour A Genuine Offer Of Immediate Instant Forgiveness Of All Your Sins Past Present Yes And Future Simply By By Repenting Of Your Past Lies Of Keeping God

[59:04] Life That's My Understanding Of What The Bible Teaches And I've Been Challenged For A Bit And As Far As I Can Make Out That's Precisely What's Pointed Out In 2 Corinthians 3 10 11 When It Speaks About The Glory That Excelleth What's The Glory That Excelles That What Christ Purchased With His Blood So tell Me Do you Understand Why Paul Is not Ashamed Of the Gospel And are you Prepared To put your Life Behind the Gospel Staking your Sword It If That's Not True You May Say Then There's Nothing No Hope For Me I Can Say I Have Absolutely Nothing For Eternity
[60:04] But That Christ Died For Our Sins According To The Scriptures That Is Life Changing Well Time's Up The Gospel Has Inbuilt Power In it To Transform Your Life That Only Because Christ Is in The Gospel Only Because Christ Died To Pay For Sin And Only Because Christ Arose From The Dead To Testify Everything He Did And Said Was Real And True And Proved Of By Heaven It's True It's Real It's Got Inbuilt Power To Transform Your Life But
[61:07] Only If You Believe Only If You Will Cast All Your Problems All Your Negatives All Your Sins All Your Wrongs Onto Him And Ask Him To Stand In For You In The Day Of Judgment And Transform You Making You A New Person May God The Holy Spirit Empower Us To Repent Of Our Past And Depend Sore On Christ's Atonement At The Place Called Calvary As Our Holy Hope Will Be Right With God May God The Holy Spirit Make His Word Effectual To Every One Of Us Let's Pray Our Father In Heaven
