[0:00] And welcome to our service of worship this evening. Nice to be with you again. Nice to see you.! And as always, when we come together around God's Word, we just pray that He will bless His Word to us and that we might truly experience His presence with us here in our gathering.

[0:19] Just one information that was submitted from the bulletin. That is that the WFM will meet on Tuesday, 4th November, at, that's this coming Tuesday, at Breastate Hall at 7pm.

[0:34] And all are welcome. Well, let's worship God. Then let's sing to His praise in Psalm 116, Psalm 116.

[0:46] And we'll sing the verses, Mark 1 to 8. That's six dancers. Psalm 116. I love the Lord because my voice and prayer she did hear.

[1:04] I, while I live, will call on Him who bowed to me as ear. Of death's accords and sorrow stood about me compass round. The pains of hell took hold on me.

[1:15] He, I, grief and trouble found, doubt of our shape. For my distressed soul from death delivered was by Thee. Thou didst my moaning eyes from tears, my feet from falling free.

[1:28] We'll sing 1 to 8 to God's grace. I love the Lord because my voice and prayer she did hear.

[1:49] I, while I live, will call on Him who bowed to me as ear.

[2:04] Oh, let the hearts and sorrows did.

[2:14] The holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy O the Lord, and be as God and sing.

[2:55] In ever thou my soul, O Lord, I do thee humbly praise.

[3:12] God bless him, O Lord, and my God. In ever thou my soul, O Lord, and my God.

[3:29] God bless him, O Lord, and my God. He did me help afford.

[3:45] O thou my soul, O Lord, and my God. I'll do thy quiet rest.

[4:01] O Lord, we know the Lord to thee. His love thee must express.

[4:17] For my distanced soul from death.

[4:28] It never was by thee. That is my morning.

[4:40] I've drawn tears. My need from all in thee. Let's join together in prayer.

[4:55] Let's pray. Lord and God, our Father in heaven. We thank you tonight, Lord, as we come around your word.

[5:09] We thank you that those who are your people can truly say they are blessed and been able to say, I love the Lord because he heard my voice and he has delivered me.

[5:27] Thank you, Father, for the deliverance that there is out of darkness and into the marvelous light of your gospel.

[5:38] Lord, we come before you this evening just seeking to give you all the praise and the honor and the glory. For you are one unworthy, O Lord.

[5:53] We come before you as sinners, so aware of our sins, of our failings, of our shortcomings. And so aware that there's no worthy of even the least of your mercies.

[6:12] And yet you are a God of mercy. And you are a God who has provided. A God who has gifted. This way of salvation that has been opened up in and through Jesus Christ, our precious Savior.

[6:29] And we thank you. Thank you, Father, for his sacrifice and death. And for his resurrection.

[6:41] For we know that for those who are in faith, Lord, that their sins were buried in the grave with them. And yet all of your people, they have risen to a new life.

[6:58] Be new creations of Christ Jesus through that resurrection. We thank you, Father, that he has ascended to the right hand of the throne on high.

[7:10] Until he comes again. And we just bless you and thank you, Father, for the wonder of your precious grace.

[7:22] The grace that enables all of your people to believe in your word by faith. To believe in Christ. The loving word.

[7:32] And we just thank you, Father, for all the many blessings that you pour upon us each and every day. So often, we tend to look at the difficulties and the hardships.

[7:46] And yet our blessings intermingled with all of these. And help us to be thankful for them. And to live our lives with gratitude.

[7:58] And to seek to walk in your ways. And the paths of righteousness. Help us each day we pray and keep us.

[8:09] Because we just cannot keep ourselves. We're just so aware of that. And we need to be led. We need to be guided. And you promise to do that for everybody with your trust and faith in you.

[8:23] And we thank you, Father, for just for the marvel of every good and perfect gift that you give to us from above.

[8:37] We thank you for the gift of family on this earth. We thank you for the gift of community. And so often we have to lean on members of our families.

[8:50] Members in our community. In your wisdom, you have provided all these things for us. But we also thank you that we are able to lean upon Jesus.

[9:03] The author and the finisher of our faith. And we confess, O Lord, that salvation is all of grace.

[9:15] That it's nothing of ourselves. And no matter what any of us may think. There is just nothing we can do to make ourselves right before the living God.

[9:28] And you saw that, Lord, that even at the time of the fall, as you were giving out your judgments, yet there was mercy intermingled with that as well.

[9:42] That prophecy of the gospel. That the seed of the woman would crush the head of the serpent. That the seed of the serpent.

[10:21] Where you have given promises. Promises that are never broken. In that great plan. That has evolved and now we see Jesus.

[10:37] We thank you, Father, that in your mercy and in your love for us. That you have come in the version of your son.

[10:47] and that you have taken upon that Jesus has taken upon himself our wrath and curse and that he has suffered hell itself in that three hours of darkness of the cross to the point where he cried out my God, my God why have you forsaken me?

[11:10] But we thank you also that he endured that he persevered and that he was the perfect unblemished lamb for sacrifice and that he overcame and that sin and death are now defeated the devil's head is truly crushed and that he was given to cry out these great words it is finished the work is completed everything that he was asked to do he completed perfectly and so the divine justice that was required for sin was satisfied we just thank you Father for the marvel and the wonder of it all and may we truly sing your praises giving thanks to you for all of these things and we thank you Father each one of your people is truly able to say that they love the Lord because the Lord loved them first and that you are gifted to each one of us that joy the joy of salvation the joy that is irrepressible just full of glory and the peace of God that passes all understanding but yet a peace that is foundational in the lives of each one of your people a peace that cannot be explained and yet a peace that is so precious over and above everything else we thank you tonight for the blessing of being together here bless this congregation

[13:04] Father remember them in their time of vacancy and bind them together more and more that they would remain strong together be united together in the gospel as they seek to call a man in the future of your choosing what we pray for this congregation Lord bless all the congregations who are vacant at this time look after us all Lord be with us we thank you that we have the great shepherd who is over us leading the flock to to green pastures to living waters and we pray Lord that you would bless this community and remember the many in homes tonight who just have no word of their souls no thought of coming out to your word and who are living for the things of this world and we just pray for them and how it hurts us to think of these things just pray that you would come with reviving power

[14:17] I pray that you would just awaken us all as your people and that we would be able to just to share your word with with people and that we would see folk coming out but especially Lord that you would work in their lives in their hearts their souls and their minds and they would realise their need of Christ and so give to us Lord that that heartfelt cry and prayer for folk just now who appear to be on a path wandering in this world for the things of this world and we pray Father that you would that you would bless all who are laid aside which is aware of so many people who who are laid aside and who are going through treatments people who are recovering from operations people waiting for operations and just people who are now housebound as well we just remember them

[15:25] Lord and we just commit them to you and we pray Father for all who are mourning and grieving this night we remember the MacLeod family in Keribank especially and commit them into your own loving care and keeping minister to them we pray and we just thank you that you are the great helper and that you are the great comforter and we just pray Lord that they would have a close awareness of your presence in this time of grief and we are just so aware as well also Lord that death is never far away from us in our communities and yet yet as human beings we just seem naturally to put it so far away from ourselves and yet we know deep down that it is the one thing that is assured of each one of us that it is that they appointed for each one of us to die and so help us Lord to make the most of the time here to redeem our time and help us

[16:31] Lord to walk in your ways and help us Lord on that path the path of life that we're on just now that we will keep our eyes fixed on the glory that lies ahead just thanking you for everything that you've told us in your word that for all of your people you're going to take them to that place where there is no more death or no more tears or crying sorrow all of these things former things they shall be former things they shall all be passed away and that we just pray we pray for any souls who are with us tonight who are still out of Christ that even this evening itself that you would bless them through your word that they also would have that living hope and we thank you Father there is a living and a sure hope that all of your people have not just a hope like this world has where it's an uncertain hope and an uncertain future that we would hope that this would happen forever but we have a sure and living hope in and through

[17:47] Jesus Christ our precious saviour that is rooted and anchored in your word and we pray for those who are in authority over us at all different levels in our local council remember those in Scottish government and Westminster and we pray for all of your people in these respective governments that you would bless them and strengthen them and that you would continually give them wisdom to deal with the problems and difficulties that they do come across and we pray that you would put men and women in these positions of authority and leadership that would lead us in the ways of your word and in the paths of righteousness we pray for a king for a queen and that you would bless them and all of the royal family and work in the lives of each one of them also and that you would turn us as a country and as a nation

[18:50] Lord we just have to confess that we have turned so far away from your ways as a country and nation have mercy upon us Lord we thank you that you are long suffering we would just pray for mercy for continued mercy and that you would turn us back once again to yourself and bless your people who are in so many different parts of this world and you are under suppression and under persecution and we remember them this evening as well and we just pray for them and pray for your protective care and keeping for your love to surround them that you will bless them Lord so this evening as we continue in our worship here we ask that you would continue with us and lead us and guide us in our thoughts and keep our thoughts focused on your word we pray we ask everything in Jesus name and for his sake amen well let's sing again this time in Psalm 103

[20:05] Psalm 103 verse 12 begin with this verse a marvelous verse that tells us that for everybody who comes to faith that the Lord casts their sin away from him as far as east is distant from the west that immeasurable distance and that is because he has removed them in his love removed all our iniquities we're seeing from verse 12 as far as east is distant from the west so far has he removed so far has he removed from us removed in his love all our iniquity and such pity as a father hath unto his children dear like pity shows the Lord his such as worship him in fear verses 12 to 17 to God's praise praise

[21:39] It's not our liberty. That pity us, our Father, unto His children.

[22:09] That pity shows the Lord to serve as worship in fear.

[22:27] For He remembers we are just, and He our frame well knows.

[22:46] Thrill man is Jesus, our Lord. The grass has found in Him be grown.

[23:04] For over in the wind of fire, our day our way is gone.

[23:24] And no doubt is where on His head was, His child would be known.

[23:42] But unto them, unto Him fear, God's mercy never ends.

[24:02] And to their children still His righteousness extends.

[24:21] Amen. Return with you then to the New Testament. And we'll read in Mark chapter 5. And we'll pick up our reading at verse 21.

[24:37] It's an account we have of Jairus and his daughter. And also the woman with the issue of blood. Back chapter 5 and at verse 21.

[24:58] And when Jesus was passed over again by ship and to the other side, much people gathered unto Him. And He was nigh unto the sea. And behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus, by name.

[25:12] And when He saw Him, He fell at His feet. And besought Him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death. I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed, and she shall live.

[25:29] And Jesus went with him, and much people followed Him and thronged Him. And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood, twelve years, and had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing better.

[25:46] But rather grew worse. When she heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched His garment. For she said, If I may touch but His clothes, I shall be whole.

[25:59] And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague. And Jesus, immediately knowing in Himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned to Him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?

[26:18] And His disciples said unto Him, Thou seest the multitude thronging me, and seest thou who touched me? And He looked round about to see her that had done this thing.

[26:30] But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before Him, and told Him all the truth. And He said to her daughter, Thy faith has made thee whole.

[26:45] Go in peace, and be whole of thy plague. What he had spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue's house, certain which said, Thy daughter is dead.

[26:57] Why troublest thou the master any further? And as soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, He saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.

[27:11] And He suffered no man to follow Him, save Peter and James, and John the brother of James. And he cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and saith a tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly.

[27:25] And when He was come in, He saith unto them, Why make you this ado, and weep? The damsel is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn.

[27:37] But when He had put them all out, He taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with Him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying. And He took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha kuma, which is being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise.

[27:57] And straightway the damsel arose and walked, for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished, with a great astonishment. And He charged them straightly, that no man should know it, and commanded, that something should be given her to eat.

[28:13] Amen, and may God bless to us that reading of His Word. To His name, be the praise, and the glory. Well, let's sing again, this time in Psalm 70.

[28:26] Psalm 70, and the first version of the Psalm, which is the short meter version. And we'll sing the whole of this section, verses 1 to 5. Psalm 70, and the first version of the Psalm.

[28:40] Lord, haste me to deliver, with speed, Lord, succor me, let them that for my soul, deceit, shamed, and confined with being.

[28:52] To verse 5, I pure and needy am, come Lord, and make no stay, my help thou, and deliverer art, O Lord, make no delay. Sing this whole section of the Psalm, to God's grace.

[29:05] Lord, haste me to deliver, with speed, Lord, succor me, let them upon my soul to see, shame and Be the heart of the city

[30:12] With shame in to require In thee let all be glad And joy that she is for thee Let them who thy salvation love Say still, God, praise in thee I put on me the end Come, Lord, and make no state

[31:16] My help thou delivered I O Lord, make no delay Let's turn back then to Mark chapter 5 And I'd just like to read a couple of verses I'd like to consider this whole section we read In regards to Jairus and this woman with the issue of blood Verse 33 we're told But the woman fearing and trembling And what was done in her came And fell down before him And told him all the truth And again Just further down as we consider Jairus here

[32:18] And Jairus walking with the Lord The Lord says to him Be not afraid Only believe What I'd like to do What I'd like to do this evening Just for this short while Is to basically do a compare and contrast Between these two characters These two people I should say that we have in the scripture I'd like to contrast their Their backgrounds and their situations And also compare their faith And their salvation as well Jairus and this woman with the hemorrhage could They could hardly be more different from one another They are different status in their community They're different in how they are identified

[33:21] In the passage here Different in their approach to Jesus And Jesus ministers to them In different ways as well One is a pure woman A social outcast And the other one is a powerful and well-off man They really are opposites on the social spectrum And we'll see how these two strangers From completely different backgrounds and situations How they're both searching for this man named Jesus So I'd like first of all to look at their circumstances Then secondly to consider the power of faith And thirdly the joy that they have In their healing And as we go through each section I'll just do a small part Or Jairus a small part On the woman with the issue of blood As we go through it So we have Jairus first of all

[34:22] He was We consider the circumstances He was a A synagogue ruler He had a large household He had many friends He was a Pharisee The synagogue He had many friends He was a Pharisee He was a Pharisee The synagogue official he held He had a position of honour A position of responsibility and power in Israel He was a respected Jewish layman And he had responsibility for He had responsibility for the upkeep of the synagogue And also for the worship services He was chosen from among the elders And would decide who would be called on To read the scriptures Who would preach And who would keep order During the services And he was most likely a wealthy man

[35:24] As well as been a man of influence In his community But we made him here in a place where None of that really mattered anymore Because the reality of life Is kicking in with him here And he's in a difficult And sad and distressing situation Jairus here He's in need He's in great need His little daughter was dying And he came to seek out Jesus She was so ill, his daughter When he left home That he didn't see her That he didn't think That she would be alive When he returned Mark says that she was at the point of death Luke says she was dying This is also recorded in Matthew's Gospel And Luke's Gospel And in reality All that the world had given him It really now meant nothing

[36:26] You see death was coming to Jairus' house For his little daughter The one Luke calls his one and only daughter No doubt his darling daughter And she was his real treasure And she was dying And we can be sure of one thing That Jairus would have traded Everything he had To change this situation With his daughter So Luke now As a self-constancius With the woman with the issue of blood We don't know this woman's name It's not given to us But she wasn't always like this We're told that She was made poor by sickness She had what appeared to be an incurable disease But it doesn't kill But it forces and pushes the victim to the outer edges of society

[37:29] She was chronically ill The woman had an incurable hemorrhage of blood That had washed away her body Had wasted away her body I should say Over the years Her condition had steadily grown worse And now the people shunned her She was shunned in her community In her society Mark tells us that She had also suffered a great deal Under the care of many doctors And she had spent all the money that she had Everything And yet instead of getting better she grew worse And the situation just seems completely hopeless here as well Doesn't it?

[38:18] Just as Jairus' situation seems hopeless So this woman's situation seems hopeless as well And now according to Jewish law This woman was classified as being ceremonially unclean She was an outcast And anyone who came in contact with her Was also considered to be unclean And this woman's illness And that caused her to be totally ostracized from normal society And so she was unable to have a relationship or marry She was barred from worshipping in the temple Unless she sat with the lepers And for the past 12 years She has lived life on the fringes of society And not just her physical circumstances

[39:20] But what about her inner pain? There must be consideration of that as well Because nobody can go through with something like this Without suffering psychologically as well There's little doubt that the pain she suffered Would also have been draining her emotionally As well as psychologically She was then a path of real despair There's no doubt whatsoever with that And that's made clear Between the three gospels that we have Accounts that we have So yes This would have involved great suffering Great suffering For this woman Physically Mentally Personally And socially Her friends had all disappeared long ago They were lost to her Along with her money And all her possessions And her pride She was in the worst position imaginable A woman

[40:21] A female And at that time In these circumstances Where she was She was a female In a male dominated world And now she was in poverty Because of this illness that she had And it's quite interesting to note The way this gospel is tied in These two characters together Because for as long as Jairus' daughter Has been alive This woman Has had this illness But we'll look at the power of faith Within both here now And we'll go back to Jairus initially And picture this scene Jairus came to Jesus Out of desperation for his Twelve year old daughter He was at the point of death And he went straight to Jesus And he physically Cast himself on Jesus

[41:22] Asking for mercy And asking that his daughter Would be healed And don't underestimate the impact That this would have made that day This would have been a massive shock To everyone around him at that time Because what Jairus had stood for Prior to this Was what the Jewish leaders controlled And that included a hatred for Jesus As we know from all the New Testament scriptures Particularly The Pharisees and the scribes And the Pharisees And all of them Was a hatred for Jesus So that was included here So this would have been a massive shock To the people All these That crowd That was following Jesus To see this ruler of the synagogue Throwing himself at Jesus

[42:23] Pleading for mercy And pleading for his daughter So they were witnessing a remarkable act Especially As the Jewish leaders thought of Jesus As an imposter And they were plotting against him all the time And yet Despite all of that Jairus fell at Jesus' feet And with his face in the dust And all his pride gone He begged Jesus To come with him To come quickly And to come now Something in Jairus had obviously changed And he saw in Jesus That this was the only chance The only opportunity For his daughter to be healed And he saw that Through the eyes of faith And there was no going back for Jairus Now he's made his move

[43:27] And so everything That he's pinned his hopes on here Everything depends now on Jesus And on Jesus And on Jesus alone There's no going back To his position His previous position All that's gone now Because he's made his move Now towards Jesus He's now pinning his hope And his faith In Jesus Christ And in him alone And I think it's also worth noting The confidence And the assurance of Jairus Because What we have here is This is a man Who's Humbling himself He's Humbling himself Before Jesus He's making his plea For help And somehow Somehow Jairus sees that everything Depends on trusting In this man Whatever he had heard about him before We don't know We're not told that

[44:28] But somehow Jairus has come to this conclusion So let's look at the woman's faith Here now And what we have is This woman She has also made a very important decision Within her own circumstances She has also made a very important decision Within her own circumstances She had also heard Of this man Jesus of Nazareth And she was determined to go to him Now The action she took was huge as well It was monumental as well Just as Jairus's actions In his circumstances Were monumental And so Are the actions of this woman They are no less Than the actions of Jairus They are both monumental actions But for very different reasons She had to make sure that

[45:31] No one saw him mixing in the clouds Which is quite the opposite of Jairus Who threw himself at the feet of Jesus In front of everyone This woman couldn't do that She had to Try to make sure that Somehow Nobody in the cloud would see her Nobody in the cloud Would recognise her Because she knew that If anyone noticed her She would have been pushed to the back And this One opportunity would be gone And she would be on her own again She realised There is only one opportunity Jesus was passing by Jesus was passing by that day And both Jairus And this woman They gasped that opportunity And what a plan she adopts this woman She decides on a very different course of action Of course Which is quite remarkable as well And they are very personal thoughts And she keeps telling herself If I can just move forward

[46:32] She decides on a very different course of action, of course. And we're allowed to listen in to her thoughts, which is quite remarkable as well. And they're very personal thoughts.

[46:45] And she keeps telling herself, if I can just move forward, and if I can just get close to Jesus, and if I can just reach out and touch his clothes, if I can just touch the hem of his garment, I know, I know that I'll be healed.

[47:06] Wow, that's faith. That's real faith. And when she touched, her plan was that when she touched the hem of Jesus' garment, then her plan was then just to move away, because she knew she would be made whole.

[47:32] She believed she'd be made whole, but her plan was just, I'll just slink away quietly, and nobody will ever know. That was her great plan. Did she do it this way because she was an outcast?

[47:52] Was she too ashamed to ask the Lord to heal her? Or maybe she had been thinking, who am I to stop the Lord in this way? It could have been any of these things.

[48:03] It could have been all of these things. But these are most likely the thoughts that were going through ahead at that time. Some combination of those thoughts and attitudes, that attitude.

[48:19] But faith was in there, and that's very clear. That's a key commodity that you must have. True faith. A real faith.

[48:31] A lasting faith. And a believing faith in Jesus Christ to be saved. And you see, the promise that God gives us, the promise that God gives, the promise of salvation, it doesn't say, you're the only people who will be saved, are those people of great faith.

[48:55] You'll never find that in the Bible. That they're the only people who will be saved. Quite the reverse, actually. The promises of God, they're not addressed to those who have a mighty faith.

[49:07] God's promises are given to those who have a real, trusting faith. A little faith is faith. And a weak faith will lay hold of a strong Christ.

[49:26] Whoever trusts in Jesus, he shall not perish, but have everlasting life. And in fact, I will not be told in the scriptures, in the Gospels, that faith, that is even like a grain of mustard seed.

[49:39] The smallest grain you could ever find on this earth. Even as a faith is like a grain of mustard seed, yet, that is faith. And the key thing is, I think for all of us who are believers, we truly know, a weak faith holds on to a strong Christ.

[50:00] And that's so true. And so, the last thing that this woman wanted to do was to attract attention to herself.

[50:12] And yet, yet, with whatever faith that she had, whatever faith she had, this sick woman made her way through the cloud.

[50:25] Here we see the joy of healing coming to the fore. And this faith in action with both the woman and Jairus.

[50:37] She made her way through the cloud until she came close enough to Jesus just to stretch out her hand just as she had planned to touch him.

[50:49] And she touched him. She had her plan and she thought she could do it her way and yet, as we're told, with only a glance from Jesus towards her.

[51:02] She's on the ground kneeling before him on her knees and trembling. The touch of faith was felt by Jesus even with such a big crowd round about him.

[51:17] And he asked, who touched me? And we could think exactly the same as the disciples. We wouldn't have any different thoughts, would we?

[51:28] We would turn to Jesus and say, well, everybody's touching you, Jesus. That's not a question to us just now. How do we know who's touched you when we've seen everybody touching you?

[51:38] Everyone who's close by you, they're touching you. but the key thing here is that Jesus sensed within himself that power had gone out of him.

[51:55] Not merely by being touched, but by being touched with someone who has faith that he can heal up. And this woman didn't just brush against Jesus.

[52:08] She wasn't just inquisitive about who he was or what he did. She actually reached out to him. And that's exactly what every one of us has to do.

[52:20] It's not just about coming under God's word. It's not just about being inquisitive about God's word. It's not just about being inquisitive about Jesus. as good as it is to be in that situation.

[52:32] But it's all about it's about faith and having the faith that he can heal you as well. To heal you from your sin.

[52:44] From this sickness of sin. And take you out of that situation. That most dangerous of situations. And into the safety and refuge with himself in him.

[52:58] So when this woman realized that she hadn't escaped the notice of Jesus we're told that she fell at his knees.

[53:12] She trembled before him. And this was this was a godly fear. Not a fear as we understand it when we talk about being fearful and being scared.

[53:23] That's not what it is at all. But it's a reverent fear of the Lord. She fell before him with a godly fear and she told him the whole truth.

[53:36] And what an answer she got from the Lord. The mercy and the love and the compassion for this woman. She didn't know what his reaction would be.

[53:49] But it certainly wasn't a rebuke that she got. Quite the opposite wasn't it? who Jesus even called her daughter. How loving is that?

[54:00] Daughter your faith has healed you. Go in peace. You are now freed from you are now freed from your suffering your spiritual suffering and your physical suffering.

[54:17] Daughter just go in peace. and how wonderful for this woman it must have been marvellous to hear these compassionate and loving loving words from Jesus.

[54:33] Being called daughter she was now a child of God. She belongs to her family again. She is within the family of God.

[54:44] And isn't that just amazing? Because it's her faith that has healed her. It wasn't the hem of his garment that healed her.

[54:59] It was her faith and her belief in Jesus that was what healed her. Her touch was a token of her faith.

[55:11] and she was healed because of that. So yes we can contribute in some way to salvation but what we contribute is our need and our trust.

[55:28] So when I say that I don't mean that we can do something to make ourselves right with God. That's not what I mean at all because what we contribute is our need and their trust in Jesus Christ.

[55:45] And it's it's it's just that what we hear so often nothing in my hand I bring only to your cross I cling because it's all of Jesus.

[55:58] so with this woman here she is she's healed not by any kind of private act but now she's healed publicly and Jesus makes it public so that everybody around about knows she no longer has this disease she is now completely healed spiritually and physically and she can now be part of this community again she can now get on with her own life normally so what she wanted to be secret Jesus heals openly and proclaims this openly to the people so for a woman who's been a social outcast for so many years that is the completeness of her healing having that happen to her and I just wonder for anyone who's here tonight have you have you ever had anything like this happen to you now I don't mean that you would have this woman's issue of blood that's not what I mean at all but just with

[57:28] Jesus and just what we have here with what he's saying it's quite astonishing the way everything works for this woman as we just go to consider Jairus in just a moment and I'm just going to leave it very briefly I'm seeing the time with this woman I just wonder if you've ever considered her situation and put yourself anywhere in a situation like she has because it leads me to ask the question are you moving through the clouds of your family and your friends and your work colleagues and your community and trying to keep it secret but not really making a move because what we're told here very clearly is that move has to be made there's got to be a move made and there's got to be a reaching out to

[58:38] Jesus and it's after the reaching out is done after the commitment is done from our said it's following that that the blessing comes don't wait for this great thing or this great light in the sky to shine down and say it's your turn now that's not the way it happens so many people are waiting for the blessing before they move towards Jesus the blessing comes afterwards and you commit your life to him so here we are finally with Jairus and there's a very different story with him he had publicly made his desperate plea to Jesus to come at once to heal his precious daughter but then while we're on the way we're told that the people came from his house and said don't waste the teacher's time anymore don't waste the master's time anymore your daughter has died she's passed away and how devastating that must have been but you know we're told something marvellous here aren't we

[59:44] Jesus says Jesus says to him don't stop just believe don't stop here just believe be not afraid don't be afraid at all only believe and you know what we see happening and it's just so marvellous Jesus walks Jairus walks side by side with Jesus nothing puts him off not even the people coming from his house to say that his daughter had died that doesn't even stop Jairus in his tracks because his faith is strong or his faith at the very least was holding on tight to Jesus and he walks side by side with Jesus towards his home there was nowhere else to go was there where else could he go to just as it was when the

[60:47] Lord asked the disciples will you also go away when he saw all the crowds going away and Peter turned to him and says well where else can we go to where else can we go to who else can we turn to and that's very similar to what we see here with Jairus nowhere else to go whatever it was Jairus he didn't listen to these people at all he wasn't sidetracked from his path and as they arrived at Jairus home they could hear the people wailing loudly apparently at that time that there was professional moaners that would come along to your home if someone passed away and these professional moaners were there and they were weeping and crying out loudly and Jesus entered the home and this assembled group and you know he said to them why are you making this commotion the child hasn't died the child is just sleeping and Jesus got them all put out of the house after they laughed and scorn and he took the child's father and mother and his close disciples with him

[62:03] Peter James and John and entered the room where the child was and he took the child with a little hand and said little girl I say to you arise and she was brought back to life and back to her parents what a faith that cheer has had and what a reward for that faith it was just amazing as well I just want to see in conclusion you know that the one thing we can learn out of our passage this evening is how Jesus can change the lives and circumstances of people no matter where they are in life Jairus had power a house family and money and this poor woman had nothing and yet they both fell at Jesus' feet and they both believed that Jesus could heal them and help them both committed to Jesus in faith and so as you consider that it's very clear that faith is the key and you know it doesn't matter whether you're young or old whether you're rich or poor it doesn't matter who or what you are what you've said what you've done even if you think that what you've said what you've done in the past is unforgivable that's not true doesn't matter whether you've been hearing the gospel for years or whether it's the first time you've heard it this salvation is offered to you as well right here right now

[63:54] Jesus says to you come to me just come to me all of you who labour and are heavy laden I will give you rest Jairus and this woman they knew what to do they knew where to go and they did it and that's the key they did it whatever you you also know what to do and you know where to go the question is will you go to Jesus as well just now let's pray father we just thank you for for your word and for the marvel of it and for the way that we see people in so many different areas of society coming to that very same point recognising their need of Jesus and truly may it be this evening if there are any with us who are still unsaved may it be that even this very moment of self you would come to recognise their desperate need of having

[65:10] Jesus as our saviour bless your word to us and the time we've had together glorify your name through it all forgive our sins in Christ Amen well let's close we'll just sing a few verses in Psalm 36 Psalm 36 and we'll sing the verses from 5 to 9 verses 5 to 9 thy mercy lord is in the heavens thy truth doth reach the clouds thy justice is like mountains great thy judgments keep us floods verses 5 to 9 four stances to God's grace!

[66:00] thy thy earth is in thy earth is the hands thy truth doth reach the cloud thy night is!

[66:23] like mountains great thy charge! thy trust! thy grace!

[66:35] thy grace! Lord thou present! thy grace! thy!

[66:46] God! God shall how precious is thy grace!

[66:57] therefore in shall go of thy wind let start their trust shall face thee with the light of thy earth be as as his light from the river of thy nature shall with the things to help provide because of life the mountains is near free we alone with thee

[68:13] I never fear that night of night we fear we like shall be thee now may the grace of Lord Christ love of Father and the the Holy Spirit rest upon and abide with each one of you now and always Amen
