Spot the Difference

Description

Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. The authority of the Bible is under attack. John 17:17 says, thy word is truth. The Bible is divinely inspired - inerrant - there's no error in it.

There’s a game, “Spot the Difference”. You compare two pictures - they look the same – but the closer you look you see differences. It’s the same with Bibles. Things that are different are not the same.

Let’s compare the King James Bible with a popular modern version. The New International Version (NIV) has 64,000 words missing. John 6:47 - Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. The NIV misses two words: ON ME. That matters.

John 3:16, For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. The NIV calls Him “His one and only Son”. Yet the Bible says we can become his sons and daughters by faith. Jesus is NOT the only Son of God.

Colossians 1:14, In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins. Here is the doctrine of our redemption – it is how we are saved. What does it say in the NIV? There's no blood there.

Isaiah 14:12, How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! It describes the fall of Lucifer. The NIV says the morning star was cast down. But the Lord Jesus is the bright and morning star. Rev. 22:16.

Matthew 8:2 …a leper …worshipped him... The NIV it says he came and knelt before him. The King James says the leper worships the Lord - he doesn't just kneel down. That's a big difference. Also, Matthew 9:18, the ruler worshipped; Matthew 15:25, the Gentile woman worshipped, and so on. The King James Bible - says that Jesus was worshipped. They did not just kneel down.

1 John 3:16 - Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. It tells of the love of God - He laid down his life for us. The NIV waters that down to say Jesus laid down His life for us.

Revelation 11:17. We give thee thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which art, and wast, and art to come; because thou hast taken to thee thy great power, and hast reigned. The Lord God Almighty is receiving heaven’s praises. NIV takes out His coming again.

Acts 8:37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Isn't it important to have a confession of faith in Christ before you are baptised? It is critical. NIV omits it.

Luke 23:42 - the thief on the cross - he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. The NIV robs Jesus Christ of His lordship.

Matthew 18 11 tells us of why Jesus came to earth again. It defines Jesus' mission. It is removed from the NIV.

John 1:3. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. One word is different, particularly. Through, instead of BY. The NIV would suit Jehovah's Witnesses, and John 1:10.

The NIV removes Jesus’ name 38 times. The NIV is missing over eight percent of your Bible. Jesus’ name is gone 38 times, Christ is gone 43 times, Lord is taken out 36 times. God is taken out 31 times, repentance and related words are taken out of the NIV 32 times.

Psalms 12:6-7 The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. 7 Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever. God has promised to preserve His inspired word. The NIV removes the promise of God of a perfect preserved word.

1 Timothy 3:16 …God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels and so on... It's clear - God was manifest in the flesh, God clothed in flesh, become a man. The NIV removes God. It's a vital biblical doctrine, the incarnation of Christ, the deity of Christ.
1 John 5:7 is one of the powerful witnesses to the Trinity. There's many good authorities that this verse should be included.

Most new translations are missing vital truth. Yet we do have the words of God; the faithful Word. The Bible is clear; it is eternal. Man shall not live by bread alone, BUT by every word of God. He that believeth on me, says the Lord God has everlasting life. God gave His only begotten Son. In whom we have redemption through His blood. He was born of a virgin; Joseph wasn't his father. He was born of God; He is due our worship. This is the love of God – that He laid down His life for us. He was and is and He is to come. Can we say, like the Eunuch – we believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God? Can we say, like the thief, Lord remember me. Do you know that by him all things were made - not as some intermediary - but BY Him. Is He to you the blessed and only potentate - the King of Kings the Lord of lords? Is He God manifest in the flesh? Do you believe three bare record in Heaven - the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost?

[0:00] The Word of God To all know, spot the difference, spot the difference.

[0:15] ! The Word of God says, sanctify them through thy truth.! Thy word is truth. Thy word is truth. Authority is under attack today, right across the world.

[0:28] Some preach that the final authority is the church. Some people think there's a man who can speak ex-cathedra and he's infallible. That the final authority is the church, or some figure of the church.

[0:40] Or some think that final authority is some human experience, whether it's an emotional experience or some encounter that they have, some goosebump experience.

[0:51] Some think that the final authority is human reasoning, as if it's in man's thinking or philosophy. We hold and preach that the final authority is the Bible.

[1:03] Thy word is truth. God's people hold that the Word of God is the truth. What does that mean? It means we believe that the Bible is divinely inspired and it is inerrant.

[1:17] There's no error in it. God's Word is unchangeable. God says that it's forever. That not one jot or tittle shall pass away.

[1:29] So we don't correct the Word of God. The Word of God corrects us. Thy word is truth. Just note that there. Thy word is truth.

[1:41] Okay, Luke 4 verse 4 tells us of the Word of God. It says in Luke 4 verse 4, And Jesus answered him saying, It is written that man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.

[1:56] Try to just hold that thought. What the Lord Jesus said. Now, there's a game that I used to play when I was a child. And it was called Spot the Difference. Spot the Difference.

[2:06] Who's ever played that game? See it in magazines, newspapers sometimes. It's called Spot the Difference. We're going to see if we can spot the difference today. Who can see some differences between these two pictures?

[2:19] Okay, Ian. Two birds and three birds. Yeah, the birds are different. Yeah? The clouds. The clouds, yeah. The flowers. The flowers, yeah.

[2:30] Jackie? Yeah, okay. Yeah, on the front. The stink. The stink's different, yeah. And then? The sun's different as well.

[2:42] The sun's different, well spotted. See that? Here's some of the things there. It's more than we thought, isn't it? When I first looked at that, I sort of thought, oh, I've picked so many. Then I kept looking longer, and I could see more and more differences.

[2:55] Things that are different are not the same. Bibles can be different too. We're going to take a look at how some Bibles are different. It's something that's worth considering and exploring and having a look at.

[3:10] Just having an honest comparison, an honest look at this subject is something that is quite an eye-opener. We're going to compare the King James Bible with a popular modern version as one example.

[3:23] Just one example. And I actually see how different are these Bibles? Can we spot the difference? How different are they? And what do we make of that? It may provoke us to ask ourselves, does it matter?

[3:37] Some people think it doesn't matter. Now, they can walk into some churches and you can have all manner of Bibles that they use. Some are quite reeling, quite weird, quite out there.

[3:51] Remember that verse that we started with? Here's how it looks in a popular modern translation. Did you spot the difference with the one that we started with?

[4:04] Is something missing? Is something missing? Maybe a few words. Do a few words matter? Do a few words really matter? Some would say, oh, it doesn't really matter.

[4:16] Here it is again in the King James Bible. Notice that there. What's different here? Can you see that?

[4:28] Does it matter if a few words are missing? What about 64,000 plus words? 64,000 plus words.

[4:38] There's a big difference between the King James Bible and the New International Version, or NIV Version of the Bible. Does that matter? Now, I loved this Bible when I was growing up.

[4:53] As a young Christian, the New International Version was one of my favourite Bible versions, and I used to use it quite a lot as a young Christian. And it was helpful to me. I benefited from it.

[5:05] But let's keep on playing the game. Spot the difference. Spot the difference. So, I'm comparing the Bible, the King James Bible, with the NIV. As one example of a popular modern translation, which is alike to many of the others that are popular today.

[5:21] And we're going to put the NIV in italic so we can discern that it is different. So, let's go on. Let's play Spot the difference. Here's John 6, verse 47 in the King James Bible.

[5:35] It says, Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. Okay, that's the words of the Lord Jesus. We want to get that right, don't we?

[5:46] Yes. The words of the Lord Jesus. Let's have a look at how it looks in many modern versions. This is the NIV. It says, I tell you the truth, he who believes has everlasting life.

[6:00] Did you spot the difference there? Who noticed there was something different? On me. Yeah. It's only two words. Does that really matter?

[6:11] Does it matter? Is it important? Or can we just believe as we please? You know, perhaps you might believe in crystals. Or in the horoscope.

[6:22] Or good luck. Or good works. Or yourself. Buddha. Or something else. You name it. Does such belief bring everlasting life? No.

[6:32] Only believing on me, Jesus says. On Jesus Christ can you have everlasting life. I think that's important. It's just two words.

[6:43] But it's two words that can make the difference. Okay. Let's try another Bible verse. One that you all know and love, I'm sure.

[6:55] John 3 verse 16. One of the most well-known Bible verses. So let's compare two readings. We put them here on the same page.

[7:07] Do we notice the difference? Sometimes the difference is, oh, so subtle. So subtle. But important. What about this commonly quoted Bible verse.

[7:18] For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son. And of course it goes on. In the NIV it says, For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son.

[7:30] Does this difference matter or not? Was Jesus the one and only Son of God? What does John 1 verse 12 say?

[7:44] A Bible verse that I trust you also care about. It says that we can become the sons of God. But as many as received him, to then gave he the power to become the sons of God.

[7:57] Even to them that believe on his name. We can be adopted into God's family. We can become his sons and daughters by faith. Jesus is not the only Son of God.

[8:10] To call him the only Son of God would be to make the Bible contradict itself. And there's some sons of God present here right now. By faith.

[8:21] Men and women, boys and girls who trusted Jesus as their Lord and Saviour, have been adopted into God's family. So Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of God.

[8:32] The only begotten Son of God. He is begotten. Not created. He never had a beginning. It speaks to us of the doctrine of incarnation. That Christ was made of a woman.

[8:45] He was begotten. Let's spot the difference. And be aware of that. Spot the difference. Very important that we do.

[8:56] Here's another Bible verse. Colossians 1 verse 14. The doctrine of our redemption is very important, isn't it?

[9:09] How we are saved. By what? It's critical. It's important. Let's spot the difference with Colossians 1 verse 14. As we see what it says in the NIV.

[9:22] Can you spot the difference? No blood. There's no blood there. Is that important? Yes. Is that an important difference? Amen. Something's missing in the NIV.

[9:33] And many other Latter-day so-called Bibles. Something is different in the NIV. And I think it matters, don't you? Amen. The blood. It says in whom we have redemption through His blood.

[9:48] Is redemption through the blood of Jesus Christ? Yes, it is. Absolutely. Without the blood, we cannot be saved. So you don't want the blood removed from your Bible.

[9:58] It matters. It's a difference that matters. It's a difference that is important. Having accurate doctrine is important. Here's one in Isaiah 14 verse 12.

[10:10] It tells us of the doctrine of Satan, the devil. It describes Satan as Lucifer, son of the morning. Cut down to the ground.

[10:21] It describes how he has fallen. The fall of Lucifer is an idle doctrine. It's an essential doctrine. It matters if we want to have sound doctrine. The King James Bible tells us here, accurately reports that Lucifer fell from heaven.

[10:37] He was cut down in judgment. Let's spot the difference. How does it look in the NIV? How have you fallen from heaven, O morning star? Son of the dawn, you have been cast down to the earth.

[10:50] You who once slayed low the nations. Can you spot the difference here? Isaiah 14 verse 12 in the NIV does not say that Lucifer was cast down, but it says the morning star was cast down.

[11:04] So who does the Bible say is the morning star? Who is the morning star? Revelation 22 verse 16. The Lord Jesus says, I am the root and offspring of David and the bright and morning star.

[11:18] The Bible clearly tells us that Jesus is the morning star, not Lucifer. So why? Why have the translators of the NIV taken a title reserved for the Lord Jesus, our Saviour, and given that to Lucifer?

[11:37] And taken Lucifer's name out of the Bible? Why is this happening? Why has that happened? It's a good question we should consider.

[11:49] Here's another one. Luke 2 verse 33. Let's see if we can spot the difference here. Luke 2 verse 33. It says, and Joseph and his mother marveled at those things which were spoken of him.

[12:04] It says that Joseph and his mother marveled at the things which were spoken of the Lord Jesus. Let's look at that Bible verse in the NIV. The child's father and mother marveled at what was said about him.

[12:19] Did you spot the difference there? Something has changed. Something is different between the King James Bible and the NIV. And numbers of other versions too.

[12:30] Jesus was born of a virgin. Joseph was not the father of Jesus Christ. The NIV calls Joseph the father of Jesus which is contrary to what the Bible teaches.

[12:45] The Lord Jesus was born of a virgin. The virgin birth is a primary Bible doctrine. It's very important stuff. We ought to be informed and alarmed.

[12:55] I was when I first was told some of these things. I couldn't believe my eyes to be honest. And Joseph and his mother marveled. That's what the Bible says.

[13:06] The King James Bible gets it right again. Let's look further. Another Bible verse. Matthew 8 verse 2. Matthew 8 verse 2. Let's spot the difference about how people related to Jesus.

[13:20] Notice what the leper does in Matthew 8 verse 2. And behold there came a leper and worshipped him. The leper came and worshipped him. How does that read in the NIV?

[13:33] A man with leprosy came and knelt before him. Do you see the difference here? The NIV says the leper knelt down.

[13:48] Back to the King James Bible it says, what does the Bible say? The leper worships. He worships the Lord Jesus. He doesn't just kneel down. The leper worships Jesus.

[13:59] That's a big difference in the wording. And it's like that too in Matthew 9 verse 18. The ruler worshipped. In Matthew 15 verse 25.

[14:12] The Gentile woman worshipped. And various other people at other times. Again the NIV just tones it down. Weakens it. That he just knelt down.

[14:24] But the King James Bible says that Jesus was worshipped. The Lord Jesus was worthy to be worshipped. He wasn't just knelt down to. He was worshipped.

[14:35] The NIV removes this. And that makes a difference. A big difference I'll put it to you today. It is a big difference. Whether you just kneel down or whether you worship.

[14:46] That's a big difference. That's a big deal. Who do you worship? Jesus is worthy and due our worship. What about 1 John 3.16?

[14:57] We've looked at John 3.16. What about 1 John 3.16? The first letter of John. Chapter 3 verse 16. It says, Hereby perceive we the love of God.

[15:11] Because he laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. The love of God. He laid down his life for us. What does that say in the NIV?

[15:23] This is how we know what love is. Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers.

[15:33] Did you notice the difference? Notice the difference. We'll go back to the King James. Hereby perceive we the love of God. That he laid down his life for us. It's another proof text that shows us that Jesus Christ is God.

[15:48] God the Son. The love of God is seen because he laid down his life for us. So the NIV waters that down again. That is a big difference.

[15:58] It's a big difference. We ought to be concerned about that, I'll put to you. Revelation 11.17. Here's a verse which records the Lord God Almighty receiving heaven's praise.

[16:11] It says they praise him as the one who is and was and is to come. O Lord God Almighty, which art and whilst and art to come.

[16:23] The NIV takes out the words that speak of his coming again. They cut it short. These words are gone as far as art to come. They cut that out. The doctrine of the second coming.

[16:35] Isn't that an important doctrine? It is an important doctrine and it's weakened by the NIV translators. If your Bible is faulty, it can lead to your doctrine being faulty.

[16:50] Acts 8.37. Don't even bother to look this one up in your NIV if you've got an NIV today. Because it's not there. Acts 8.37. This is where the eunuch was met by Philip and he was inquiring about baptism.

[17:07] And Philip questioned him. And this whole verse is missing from the text of the NIV. And other Bibles too. So-called Bibles.

[17:18] As is the challenge and instruction to Philip, to the new convert, as to confirming his faith. As to confirming man's believing with his whole heart. He said if you believe with your whole heart, you can be baptised.

[17:31] It's taken out of the modern translations. Isn't it important to have a confession of faith in Christ before you were baptised?

[17:41] It is important. It's critical. It's critical that someone who is to be baptised confesses Jesus Christ is the Son of God. There's a major difference here.

[17:54] Let's go on. Luke 23.42. Another confession of faith. Let's spot the difference. Here is one of the themes on the cross. Luke 23.42.

[18:06] One of the themes on the cross. Trusting Christ. Calling on Christ. As he stands on the very brink of eternity. As he stands at the very edge of eternity.

[18:17] He'll want to get it right. Won't he? What he says to Jesus. He'll want to get it right. Notice what he says to Jesus. He says, Jesus. Unto Jesus he says, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.

[18:31] Remember that. Remember what he says. Check the NIV. Then he said, Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom. Did you spot the difference?

[18:42] Do you see the word that is missing? What is the word? Lord. Lord. The thief said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me. Does that matter?

[18:53] Yes. The way it's translated here in the NIV robs Jesus Christ of his lordship in this verse. The Bible says, Romans 10 verse 9, that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

[19:13] Confessing Jesus as Lord is important. The thief acknowledged Jesus Christ as his lord. Lord, remember me. Not just Jesus, remember me.

[19:25] Matthew 18, 11 tells us of why Jesus came to earth. Again, this verse that defines Jesus' mission is removed out of the NIV.

[19:38] It's not there. It's as if someone come along and snip, snip, snip. Does it matter? Is it important that we know why Jesus came? Jesus came, the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost.

[19:52] That is a fundamental statement of why he came. That's important. John 1 verse 3. Here's another one. It's a very subtle one, this one, but let's take a look at this one.

[20:05] John 1 verse 3. As it reads in the King James Bible, All things were made by him, and without him was not anything made that was made. Let's spot the difference, NIV.

[20:18] Through him all things were made, without him nothing was made that has been made. You notice what's different? One word is different, particularly. Did you notice what it was?

[20:30] Through. Through. Through. It's different, isn't it? Let's go back to the King James. All things were made by him. By him. It's a big difference, isn't it?

[20:40] A subtle change, but it makes a big difference to say things were made through someone as against being made by someone. By someone.

[20:51] The NIV reading would suit the Jehovah's Witnesses, who hold that Jesus didn't create anything of his own power, but that God the Father created all things through Christ.

[21:02] The King James Bible says, All things were made by him. By him. He is the creator. It's the same in John 1 verse 10. Same thing is done again.

[21:15] It's another attack on the deity of Christ. It downgrades him. It dishonors him. Another example. Philippians 4 verse 13.

[21:26] In the King James it says, I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. That's pretty clear and a familiar one, isn't it? The NIV says, I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

[21:38] Who's the him? It's very vague and unclear as to who the him is. So let's just take stock thus far. We're playing spot the difference.

[21:49] There's only a few examples that we're talking of here. There's many, many more that we could give. There's a whole leaflet I could give you that tells you of some 200.

[22:00] And they're not insignificant changes. How many changes exactly are there? The NIV removes Jesus' name 38 times.

[22:16] The name Jesus is taken out. The RSV takes it out 73 times. The NIV compared to the King James has got 64,500 odd words missing.

[22:30] Now if you were to calculate that, that's over 8% of your Bible. Over 8% of your Bible. That would equate to over 30 books.

[22:41] That's a lot, isn't it? Can you imagine what it would be like to carry around a Bible? For example, a Bible that was missing the books of Ruth, Esther, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon, Lamentations, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Malachi, Colossians, 1 Thessalonians, 2 Thessalonians, 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon, James, 1 Peter, 2 Peter, 1 John 2, John 3, John 2, and more combined.

[23:14] That's the difference. Isn't that a big difference? I put it to you, that is a big difference. 8% of the Bible, over 30 books, what it would equate to.

[23:29] Yet this is what happens with the NIV. And many other translations like it. Jesus' name gone 38 times. Christ is gone 43 times.

[23:39] Lord is taken out 36 times. God is taken out 31 times. Repentance and related words are taken out of the NIV 32 times.

[23:51] That's a big difference, isn't it? Is this what God wants for his church? A total confusion as to what God is saying? With this Bible of different Bibles?

[24:03] With so much dramatic variation in the content? Is that what God wants for his church? What does the Bible say? In Psalm 12, God says, The words of the Lord are pure words, as silver tried in a furnace of fire, purified seven times.

[24:23] Thou shalt keep them, O Lord. Thou shalt preserve them from this generation forever. God has promised to his people to preserve his inspired word for his people.

[24:35] The NIV translators mutilate both of these verses, especially the seventh verse, where it is translated in the NIV. O Lord, you will keep us safe and protect us from such people forever.

[24:47] It doesn't even talk about the word. It removes the promise of God that he will give his people a perfect preserved word. By changing this verse to refer not to the word, but to people.

[25:02] This is a blessed promise from God, from the mouth of God, to preserve every single word of scripture forever. Preserved by God. A Bible preserved by God cannot have mistakes.

[25:14] Yet believers are told there's numerous mistakes. They start looking down in the margins or the bottom, all the fine print, as if God has made a mistake.

[25:26] In the margins of the Bibles, the footnotes promote doubt and promote deception. It's as if Satan's whispering, Yea, hath God said. Hath God said.

[25:37] I put it to you today that we can honestly say that we have the perfect word of God. Without error or contradiction, the King James Bible is as perfect a translation as possible in the English world.

[25:52] It's as perfect a translation as we can know in the English language today. Let's continue to spot the difference.

[26:03] 1 John 4 verse 3 is a test here, how we can test whether a spirit is of God or not. It says, Every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God.

[26:19] And this is that spirit of Antichrist. How do we test a spirit as to whether it is of God or not? It confesses that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh.

[26:31] That's pretty important. NIV takes that out. It doesn't say Jesus is come in the flesh. It says every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God.

[26:44] Now there's lots of people that acknowledge Jesus. Some think he's one of the ascended masters and all kinds of things. Or some A-God as the Jehovah's Witnesses think.

[26:54] The Bible says Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. It's a doctrine that tells us of the incarnation. Of the incarnation. The NIV gets it wrong again on a fundamental doctrine.

[27:08] A fundamental doctrine. We're still in 1 John. Let's look at 1 John 4 verse 9. In this was manifested the love of God towards us because that God sent his only begotten son into the world that we might live through him.

[27:22] It's another important verse. How did God manifest his love towards us? He sent his only begotten son. What does the NIV say? He sent his one and only son.

[27:36] Jesus is not the only son of God. We've covered that. He's the only begotten son of God. We are also sons of God. We that have been adopted by God through faith.

[27:48] Here's another Bible verse. 1 Peter 2 verse 2. Let's spot the difference again. 1 Peter 2 verse 2.

[27:59] What does the Bible say? As newborn babes desire the sincere milk of the word that you may grow thereby. desire the sincere milk of the word.

[28:10] NIV says, Like newborn babies crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up into your salvation. Notice the difference here.

[28:21] No word there, is there? Did you see that? There's no word there. The New Revised Standard Version says, Like newborn infants long for the pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow into salvation.

[28:35] What does that mean? What on earth is spiritual milk? The King James Bible says it's the milk of the word. It defines it. It makes it very clear. And also this verse is not theologically correct.

[28:48] We do not grow into salvation. Salvation is not something you grow into. Salvation is a gift. It is a gift. A gift received at a moment in time.

[29:02] Certainly our spiritual life grows, but our salvation is a purchased possession. It's a free gift, freely given by God's grace through faith.

[29:15] It's not something we grow into. These are fundamental things that are alarming. Another example, 1 Timothy 6, 14. Let's spot the difference here.

[29:27] A key verse speaking of the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ back to earth. It tells us of the mighty potentate, the governor of the whole world. It says, Of his appearing, the Lord Jesus Christ, which in his times he shall show, who is the blessed and only potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords.

[29:46] Potentate. Mighty potentate. Mighty governor. It's a very strong word. NIV says, The appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, which God will bring about in his own time, God, the blessed and only ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords.

[30:01] The NIV takes away from the Lord Jesus that he is the blessed and only potentate. The Lord Jesus is the King of kings and the Lord of lords.

[30:13] Let's review what the King James Bible says. It glorifies the deity of Christ. It shouts that the only potentate, the King of kings and the Lord of lords, is the precious Lord Jesus Christ.

[30:26] The blessed and only potentate. It doesn't take that away. But the NIV takes that away. Let's spot the difference again. Here's one of the clearest texts about the deity of Christ and his incarnation.

[30:43] An essential doctrine, I'll put it to you. 1 Timothy 3 verse 16, And without controversy, great is the mystery of godliness.

[30:55] God was manifest in the flesh. Justified in the spirit, seen of angels. It goes on. It's a clear text that tells us that God was manifest in the flesh.

[31:07] The deity of Christ. God clothed in flesh. Become a man. God intervening in human form. God become man.

[31:18] God manifest in the flesh. What does the NIV say? NIV says, Beyond all question, the mystery for which true godliness springs is great. He appeared in the flesh, was vindicated by the spirit, was seen by angels and so on.

[31:33] Did you notice the difference here? God is missing. The NIV has taken away this reference that reveals the deity of Christ. Let's go back to the King James.

[31:47] Without controversy, great is the mystery of godliness. God was manifest in the flesh. He appeared in the flesh. By removing the word God, modern translations have removed this vital reference to the deity of Christ.

[32:01] I appeared in the flesh. Julius Caesar appeared in the flesh. Herod appeared in the flesh. So what if Jesus appeared in the flesh? What if Jesus appeared in the body?

[32:12] That says nothing. When it says God was manifest in the flesh, that says everything. God was manifest in the flesh. It says that Jesus was God incarnate in the flesh.

[32:24] It's a vital biblical doctrine. The incarnation of Christ. The deity of Christ. Let's not take that away. Here's another one. And this is one that there's much debate about. The scholars debate this one.

[32:38] 1 John 5 verse 7. Here's one of the clearest texts about the triune Godhead. An essential doctrine. It's a subject of much debate.

[32:49] 1 John 5 verse 7. It says, For there are three that bear record in heaven. The Father, the Word and the Holy Ghost. And these three are one.

[32:59] These three are one. That's an important Bible verse. Let's see what it looks like in the NIV. Is that different?

[33:10] It's quite different. Quite different. There's a lot of missing words there in the NIV. Let's go back to the King James Bible. What is the Bible saying?

[33:21] Why should we believe it? 1 John 5 verse 7 is one of the powerful witnesses to the Trinity. Various scholars have tried to remove it from the Bible.

[33:33] They suggest that it was not in the ancient manuscripts. It is true that the corrupt manuscripts, Sinaiticus and Vaticanus, omit the key words.

[33:45] But it is not true to say that 1 John 5 verse 7 is absent in all pre-16th century Greek manuscripts and New Testament translations.

[33:55] There's many witnesses, there's many good authorities that this verse should be included. Amen. And scholars go into this, you can look it up and look at the debate yourself later.

[34:08] But some examples, why there's some good authorities, why it should not be strucken from your Bible, in terms of Latin manuscripts, there's some 10,000 Latin manuscripts.

[34:20] 29 of them don't have it. All the rest that contain the verse do have these key words. And of the few old Latin manuscripts with this chapter, 1 John 5, at least four of them contain this text.

[34:38] These are very old Latin manuscripts. The Syriac version, which dates back to AD 180, has these words. A text of some 5,000 Greek manuscripts do have these words.

[34:56] There's only 6 to 8 out of some 5,000 that do not have these key words. Did you get that? 6 to 8 of 5,000 take these words out.

[35:10] The NIV follows that minuscule minority of texts. Cyprian, an early church leader, who died in AD 258, this is some 100 years before the corrupt Sinaiticus and Vaticanus manuscripts, he quotes this same wording.

[35:30] So there is sound basis for not removing these words from the Bible. This is important. If 1 John 5, verse 7 is distorted and virtually removed in holus bolus from your Bible, then it must raise questions for you.

[35:52] Ask the question, does it make a difference that such a verse is missing from my Bible? Friends, these are stirring words. It might be something completely foreign to you to hear such a message as this.

[36:03] And it was to me as a young Christian when I first started to look into some of this stuff. And it's just mind-blowing to think that many, if not most, new translations today are missing some vital biblical truth.

[36:20] They're taking words out, taking texts out, taking whole verses out, taking important words out. It's alarming to see this.

[36:33] As much as I've benefited from the NIV as a young Christian, I will not use the NIV to study or preach from now. I will use the King James Bible. And our church will stand on the King James Bible.

[36:47] Because we can rely on it. It's faithful. It's faithful. Let's go on. In Paul's time, he wrote of some who corrupt the Word of God.

[36:59] This word corrupts, it can mean change, defile, pollute, pervert and infect with errors. He says that we are not of them who corrupt the Word of God.

[37:16] Newer Bible versions are even changing from one edition to the other. This NIV is different from the NIV you can buy at the Christian bookshop now. It's been updated.

[37:28] They've even changed what they've changed. They've changed and they're constantly changing. You've got the revised standard version. Now you've got the new revised standard version. I think you've got the new, new American standard.

[37:40] It just boggles the brains. Think of it. That these latter-day Bible translators are still not even clear as to what the Word of God actually says.

[37:51] And the supposed best authorities, the supposed reliable manuscripts, it boils down to very few such as Vaticanus and Sinaiticus. These two manuscripts, Vaticanus was found in the pagan complex known as the Vatican.

[38:08] Right. Goodness me. Can you put faith in that one? And the other one was found in a garbage can in an Eastern Catholic monastery by the same person, strangely enough, a spiritualist called Constantine Tischendorf.

[38:25] He just happened to find both of them. And things have been changing ever since. Ever since. And it's interesting that these two, Vaticanus and Sinaiticus, are so full of errors that no one could have translated the New Testament by using either of them by themselves or even by combining the two because they disagree with each other thousands of places.

[38:53] In total contrast, we have the timeless masterpiece of the King James Bible. Its textual basis stands unmoved. And what does it stand on? Some 99% of all manuscripts.

[39:07] 99% of all manuscripts support the textual basis for the King James Bible. This is, I'm telling you the truth. Jude 1 verse 3.

[39:19] Beloved, it was needful for me to write unto you and to exhort you that you should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

[39:30] We've been playing a kind of game here today. A game. Spot the difference. This is not a difference between two cartoons or two photos with little pieces changed or different.

[39:45] It's a difference between two Bibles. One is called a Bible. One is a Bible. What is the difference?

[39:55] We've seen some glaring omissions. The Lord wants us to contend for the faith. Ought we to have the words of God, divinely given words? Or will there be some doubt?

[40:06] Will it be just in the margin or the footnotes? I'm not there at all. We ought to contend earnestly for the faith, the faithful word, and stand on the very words of God.

[40:18] Contend for the faith. Really, this is no game. It's a fight for the truth. It's critical. It's a standard that needs to be lifted.

[40:29] It's a call that must be sounded forth. Without wavering, this book is too precious and too important to trifle with. To dare to question its veracity.

[40:40] To dare to add or remove from it. Look at the back of the book. What does it say to those who do? Don't trifle with the word of God. Friends, the word of God is truth.

[40:54] Truth is constant. It never changes. Truth today will be truth tomorrow. Truth 2,000 years ago is truth today. God does not lie. God's word does never change.

[41:06] It never changes. The King James Bible has stirred the test of time since 1611. Will we adopt a version that's tampered with, full of man's speculation and doubt?

[41:20] Or will we uphold the faithful, trustworthy Bible that God has given the English-speaking world? That he is signally blessed with revival and reformation. God's word is truth.

[41:32] Internal truth. We've got an authority that we can count on. Thy word is truth. Now, friends, to close, the Bible is clear.

[41:43] Its message is clear. It is eternal. It is forever. It's important for us that we have sound doctrine. Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.

[41:54] He that believeth on me, says the Lord, hath everlasting life. God gave his only begotten Son, in whom we have redemption through his blood.

[42:08] He was born of a virgin. Joseph wasn't his father. He was born of God. He's due our worship. The love of God was that he laid down his life for us.

[42:24] He was and is and he is to come. Can we say like the eunuch, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Can we say like the thief, Lord, remember me.

[42:38] Is he the one for you that by him all things were made? Not as some intermediary, but by him.

[42:50] Is he to you the blessed and only potent, say, the King of kings, the Lord of lords? Is he God manifest in the flesh?

[43:02] Do you believe? Three bear record in heaven. The Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost, and these three are one. Fundamental doctrines. Fundamental truths.

[43:14] Let us pray.
