[0:00] I want to talk about trust. Trust. 2 Samuel 22 verse 31 says,! As for God, His way is perfect. The word of the Lord is tried. He is a buckler to all them that trust in Him. A buckler was a small shield. Here's a shield to all them that trust in Him. And this message is about trusting God. Having faith in God is trusting Him.

[0:41] To trust means to set your confidence in. Will trust mark your life or unbelief? They're two separate things, different things, aren't they? The Bible says there's some things that we should not place our trust in. For example, we should not place our trust in ourselves.

[0:58] We should not place our trust in men. We should not place our trust in idols. Certainly false teachers should not be trusted. We need to discern who can you trust. Now think of it, when you go out on a boat, you trust the captain. When you buy a house, you trust your builder. Hopefully, they do the right thing. When you bought a plane, you trust the pilot. When you're having an operation, you trust the surgeon. Hopefully, they do the right thing. I heard this quote, Faith is believing the dentist when he says it isn't going to hurt. I don't know about you, but I think if someone took a photo of me while I was lying on the dentist chair, there would be a look of sheer terror on my face. So I absolutely got this, what's the word? A phobia, an absolute phobia of dentists and especially needles too. But we can trust our doctor, hopefully, to do the right thing. But who will you trust with your life? Who will you trust with your life? Who will you trust with your soul? That's the most important thing of all, isn't it? There's only one, only one you can trust with your soul. In Isaiah 26, verse 3 and 4, it says,

[2:21] Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee, because he trusteth in thee. Trust ye the Lord forever, for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength. Trust in the Lord.

[2:38] He will give perfect peace to those whose mind is stayed upon him. Trust in the Lord. Trust in the Lord regardless. No matter what. Trust him. In hard times, in trouble, in trials. Job said, Though he slay me, yet will I trust him. Yet will I trust in him. Job 13, verse 15. You know, a well-known Christian, Corrie ten Boom said this, she said, When a train goes through a tunnel and it gets dark, you don't throw away the ticket and jump off. You sit still and trust the engineer.

[3:22] That's what we need to do, isn't it? As much as it's maybe easier said than done. And I know the rain falls on the just and the unjust. We had some rain and we had some flooding next door again.

[3:33] And thanks to my ever faithful mum and dad for coming and helping me again. But the rain falls on the just and the unjust. You might suffer flood and fire and carp bingles and you name it. We've got the every day of life to get our way through. But we've got something more, haven't we? We've got someone more than those who don't have him. And we can have faith in God. Faith will see you through. Faith will see you through those tests of sickness or ill health or family concerns. Faith will see you through. And in the work of God too, Hudson Taylor said this, I have found that there are three stages in every great work of God. First, it is impossible. Then it is difficult and then it is done. Now you've got to plow through and press through and follow God. Trust in him. Faith will see you through. Trust him. He's completely trustworthy. You know, there are some professions that have got a reputation, haven't they? Used car salesmen.

[4:39] For one, I hope it's not here this morning. But you know, some people have got a reputation. You know, some ministries too, ministers for one, can be not trusted or the government cannot be trusted. But this one, this one is completely trustworthy. He will not let us down. He will always be faithful. He is always faithful. He's faithful in his faithfulness. He's faithful in his love. He's faithful in his grace.

[5:06] He's faithful in his saving power. You can trust him. Trust him. There's an old song, I don't need to understand. I just need to hold his hand. Life is like a mighty sea, so tossed and driven. Billows rise within the heart of every man. Storms so many times will leave the heart with questions. But I don't need to understand. Just hold his hand. I don't need to understand. I just need to hold his hand. I don't ever need to ask the reason why. For I know he'll make a way through the night and through the day.

[5:44] I don't need to understand. I don't need to understand. I just need to hold his hand. Faith holds that unseen hand. Trust him. Trust him for your needs, for your forgiveness. He's absolutely reliable. 100%. Matthew Henry, the old time commentator wrote this. He said, God has wisely kept us in the dark concerning future events and reserved for himself the knowledge of them that he might train us to be in dependence upon himself and a continued readiness for every event. He's training you. He's training me to be continually dependent upon him, upon himself. And we can trust that his divine plan is working out even though along the way we just scratch our heads and wonder what's happening. We can trust his divine plan is being worked out. George Whitfield, an old time preacher said, a true faith in Jesus Christ will not suffer us to be idle. No, it is an active, lively, restless principle. It fills the heart so that it cannot be easy until it is doing something for Jesus Christ. Faith is active. Trust him and follow him. Get those feet walking in his direction. Some quotes about faith. Faith can move mountains but don't be surprised if God hands you a shovel. Faith can move mountains but take part. Be active. Be an active Christian. Ask yourself, here's another quote, does my faith move mountains or does mountains move my faith? Faith is daring the soul to go beyond what the eyes can see. Another quote, faith sees the invisible, believes the incredible and receives the impossible. Faith, trusting him, is trusting him no matter what. And another thought is sometimes the outlook might look bleak. But when the outlook is bleak, when what you see ahead or what's happening about you is bleak, trust the up look. The up look. Look up. Look up. Always remember that when the outlook is gloomy, the up look is glorious. Though the outlook may be bleak, the up look is always bright. Look to him. Look to him in those times of testing. Faith sees Christ on high and thrown. The cruel cross on which he groaned. The crown which now his brow adorns was once a cruel crown of thorns. And while the ages roll away, faith sees the increase of his sway. Till crowns and thrones and kingdoms fall. And Christ is

[8:33] King and Lord of all. Faith sees that which will happen through the times where it is still invisible.

[8:43] Trust his promises. Trust his will. This one upon whom you can trust, it says of him in Hebrews 6 verse 18, it is impossible for God to lie. He cannot tell a lie. He cannot lie to us. We can trust what he says.

[9:00] It's impossible for him to lie. In Psalm 2, we're told to worship the Son. Kiss the Son, the Son of God. Kiss him. Worship him, lest he be angry and he perish from the way. When his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him. The Word of God says you're blessed if you put your trust in him. Psalm 18 verse 2, it says, The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer. My God, my strength in whom I will trust.

[9:36] I will trust my buckler and the horn of my salvation and my high tower. My God, my strength in whom I will trust. We hear of the people of God through the pages of Scripture that put their trust in him. And like we've been having that theme this morning, that it's still now. He's still here. He's still near. He still hears and he still answers prayer.

[10:00] And he's still the burden carrier. And he is the one to whom Noah came, to whom John came, to whom Moses and Daniel and David came. He's still the same God today. That we can come unto that faithful one.

[10:16] Trust in him at all times, you people. Pour out your heart before him. God is a refuge for us. Trust in him at all times. Trust in him at all times. Trust in him at all times.

[10:34] Trust God. Trust him completely and at all times. A poem we have need of faith. Faith is needed all the way. Faith to toil and faith to pray. Faith to learn and faith to teach.

[10:48] Faith to practice. Faith to preach. Faith to start each day anew. Faith to do our duty too. Faith to help the weak along. Faith to bear in patience strong. Faith to smile though sad within.

[11:05] Faith to conquer every sin. Faith to ask him for his care. Faith while earthly trials bear. Faith to smother every side. Faith to live and faith to die. Faith. Trust him. Trust him today.

[11:21] Trust him now. Trust him with your soul. Trust him with your life. Trust him with your family. Trust him with your future. Place your total trust upon him. There is absolute shelter under his wings.

[11:34] You know you hear those stories of bush fires and of birds gathering their young under their feathers. And the protection that the mother hen gives. That's the same picture as we read in Psalm 91.

[11:51] He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord he is my refuge and my fortress. My God in him will I trust.

[12:06] Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers. And under his wings shalt thou trust.

[12:17] His truth shall be thy shield and bucklet. You can trust in him. You can trust in him now. You can trust in him like Job trusted in him. You can trust in him like Abraham trusted in him. You can trust in him like David trusted in him.

[12:32] Trust in him. Trust in him. Trust in him. Secondly trust in his word. Psalm 119 verse 42. It says in part I trust in thy word.

[12:46] Trust in his word. You know there was a survey done where it was in America. They asked people in 2002 if the Bible, the Koran and the Book of Mormon are all different expressions of the same spiritual truths.

[13:04] 44% of adults said yes. They thought the Koran, the Bible and the Book of Mormon were pretty much along the same line. Funny thought.

[13:16] Yet when the same research group in 2008 asked Americans to identify which books were sacred, the results were far different. Of those surveyed, 84%.

[13:28] 84% said the Bible is a holy book. While the Koran and the Book of Mormon were called sacred by less than 5%. 5% of the population.

[13:39] 84%! Even a mixture of people. Not necessarily Christian. Trust in his word. Trust it. Proverbs 35 it says, 30 verse 5.

[13:54] Every word of God is pure. He is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. We believe in the Holy Scriptures. We believe in the word of God.

[14:05] It's inerrant. It's sufficient. And it's authoritative. We know that we have to get to the source to discern the facts of a matter. The words of man can be unreliable and faulty.

[14:16] There's many words of man. We've talked about them just before. The words of man. They can be unreliable and faulty. I don't know how anyone can believe the Book of Mormon for one thing.

[14:29] The archeology just demolishes it. It's a non-issue. The words of man can be very faulty. But the word of God. The word of God. The word of God.

[14:40] It's authentic. It's authoritative. And it's completely reliable. As the Lord Jesus said in Matthew 4 verse 4. It is written, man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

[14:56] We can hold fast to the trustworthiness of God's word. It's 100% accurate, reliable and without error. We can have confidence in scripture.

[15:07] Matthew 24 verse 35 it says, Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. This book meets the needs of humanity. The word of God.

[15:18] We can have confidence that it is the final authority for our lives. This is the word of God. We can say that confidently. It's pure.

[15:29] It's perfect. Everything it says is the truth. It is complete. Completely, fully and perfectly the word of God. We believe the book.

[15:40] And we stick with the book. And really the only thing that matters is what the Bible says. That's what matters. Now, we do not believe in double inspiration.

[15:52] That it was inspired when God gave it. But we do believe that the translators of the King James Bible were guided by God. Guided by God as they faithfully translated it.

[16:04] So we can be assured as we take this, that this is God's preserved and inspired word. For the English speaking people. The pure, unadulterated word of God.

[16:16] In Psalm 12 it says, The words of the Lord are pure words, as Sel the triad in the furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O Lord.

[16:27] Thou shalt preserve them from this generation forever. God promises to preserve his word. We can know that we have it in our hand. And we can know and put our trust in its promises.

[16:41] It's preserved, it's provided for us. We say in James 1, Receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

[16:52] Trust him, trust his word. And thirdly, Psalm 52 tells us in verse 8, Trust in his mercy. Trust in his mercy. Psalm 52 verse 8 it says, That I am like a green olive tree in the house of God.

[17:06] I trust in the mercy of God forever and ever. Our only hope is to trust in his mercy. If you're not saved today, his mercy is extended still.

[17:20] His mercy is extended. I believe his mercy is extended humanity wide. His mercy is available humanity wide. And forever and ever.

[17:32] But we know the time will come when opportunity will close for some. At death or at his coming, opportunity will close.

[17:43] The mercy will no longer be extended. We can trust in his mercy today. You can trust in his mercy. Christian man or woman here today, trust in his mercy.

[17:56] It's your only hope. I've had some correspondence with some folk who think that by their obedience they keep keeping themselves saved. Friends, if it's anything to do with us, it's not salvation.

[18:09] It's got to be everything to do with him. Everything to do with his saving blood. Everything to do with his saving grace. With his tender mercies extended. Apart from and despite everything that you can or could ever think to do.

[18:23] It's undeserved. It's unfailing. And it's abounding still. His mercy. His mercy. God is merciful. A man should seek his mercy while he can.

[18:37] Psalm 147 and 11 it says, The Lord taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy. Hope in his mercy. It's our only hope. Spurgeon puts it, his mercy is a golden ointelon to your bleeding wounds.

[18:52] His mercy is a heavenly bandage to your broken bones. His mercy is a royal chariot for your weary feet. His mercy is a bosom of love to your trembling heart.

[19:04] His mercy. Psalm 13 5 it says, But I have trusted in thy mercy. My heart shall rejoice in thy salvation. Psalm 103 says, Bless the Lord O my soul, and forget not all his benefits.

[19:17] Who forgiveth all thy iniquities. Who healeth all thy diseases. Who redeemeth thy life from destruction. Who crowneth thee with loving kindness and tender mercies.

[19:29] He crowns us with his tender mercies. Psalm 89 1 it says, I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever. Consider his mercies today.

[19:40] Consider the mercy of Calvary's cross. Consider the mercy of his love extended to the foulest, to the unclean, to the ungodly for whom he died.

[19:51] Psalm 10 4 it says, The wicked through the pride of his countenance will not seek after God. God is not in all his thoughts. We've been ruled in Australia by people whose thoughts are not full of God.

[20:05] God is not in all their thoughts. They're atheists. We're living in a land where the heathen rule. Yeah. Friends, we need to pray for our nation.

[20:16] We need to consider our world that we live in. Thank God that his mercy has been received. I trust that you here today, you've received his mercy.

[20:30] If you haven't, then don't leave it any longer. Trust his mercy. Hope in his mercy. Proverbs 3 to close it says, Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.

[20:45] In all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes but fear the Lord and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy flesh and marrow to thy bones.

[21:01] Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. Now if we were to lean on our own understanding we'd be in all kinds of confusion, wouldn't we?

[21:14] I know I'm often... I've got to watch myself otherwise I'll be like that all the time too. But if we trust in the Lord with all our heart and lean not on our own understanding it all makes sense, doesn't it?

[21:29] That we can just trust that unseen hand. We can trust in the Lord with all of our heart. We can reach out and know that he understands. And even though we don't understand, he is there.

[21:41] Trust him. Trust his word. Trust the promises. Claim them. Make them personal. And trust his mercy. Claim his salvation personally. His tender mercies.

[21:53] Trust him. Trust him when dark clouds assail thee. Trust him when thy strength is small. Trust him when to simply trust him seems the hardest thing of all.

[22:04] Trust him. He is ever faithful. Trust him. For his will is best. Trust him. For the heart of Jesus is the only place of rest.

[22:15] Trust him. Trust his word. Trust his tender mercies. Make salvation personal today. And friends, be encouraged. That no matter what, no matter what, trust him at all times.

[22:28] Trust him through the good. Trust him through the bad. Trust him and keep on trusting him. He is ever faithful. And he is ever trustworthy. Let us pray.

[22:38] Thank you.
