Discernment is sadly lacking in our post-truth world. We have much need of rightful discrimination - to decide between right and wrong; between good and evil. Discernment is the duty of every Christian. Error comes in many guises. Believe not every spirit. There is a danger of a different gospel. Our Lord says, My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. The Bible is our only sure guide. Our source of truth is the sure Word of God. Spiritual discernment is the most loving thing we can do to counter error and those misled by it. Do not deviate from the Word. This is no time for tolerance. But rather a holy contending for the faith once delivered unto the saints. Now more than ever we need the straight-out Gospel truth and be accountable to this unalterable standard. Is what we do in worship and witness Biblically true? May we be a resolute people founded squarely upon Biblical authority. Do you love - or hate - the truth? This is what ultimately defines us. …the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error… diametrically opposed forces at work today.
1 Kings 18:21 And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him... God’s people face a relentless attack. Sadly many fall prey to deception. 1 John 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God... We have to fight for truth. As God’s people we need to hear and respond to the voice of our Lord. John 10:27- My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. The Bible is our only sure guide. Isaiah 8:20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them. We cannot unite with error, but must rather reprove it. The Bible is the final and complete revelation of God to men. It is our foundation on which we build. The ecumenical movement is anti Biblical and we must renounce it. My heart grieves for loved ones who are in deep error and disobedience and unbelief. They face God’s judgment poured out against them. God’s people are called to be lovers of the truth, We have a mission and a message founded upon the truth. The Lord has said, “the Scripture cannot be broken” (John 10:35). We have the absolute word of God. We can have every confidence, word-for-word, that we have the crystal clear truth. Psalm 119:18 Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law. May this be our prayer as we open the pages of this book. We must oppose those who would twist the scripture or take a detour from the Biblical pathway. As we stand up for the truth we must also counteract error.
We are not called to conform – but rather to contend FOR the faith… Jude 1:3 ...earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. We have to teach the truth of God. This no time for tolerance. There is a place for rebuke, for correction, for confrontation. The hard truth. Heresies are listed in Galatians 5 as one of the works of the flesh. Some people will oppose sound doctrine. They will not be teachable. We must find the truth and guard it. We have to preach the straight-out Gospel. It is how we show our love for the lost.
As a church we are committed to being a solidly Biblical church… in all the doctrines and practices of this church. The Bible gives us an objective standard as to how we are to please God. There are no short cuts. We must be Bible centred. Our supreme object as a church is to glorify God. We can best glorify and honour our Lord as we are grounded firmly in the truth.
This message was livestreamed at Church For You, Elizabeth Park, South Australia, on 29 January 2017.
[0:00] 1 John 4 verse 6 it says, We are of God. He that knoweth God heareth us.
[0:11] He that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth and the spirit of error. There's two contrasting spirits here, the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.
[0:24] I know years back as a young Christian I had a tract and it had the spirit of truth and it had biblical truth about salvation, about hell, about the doctrine of the Trinity, various theological truths about the new birth and spiritual living.
[0:41] And then it had the spirit of error and it contrasted what the Bible said with what various cults and religions said. And it was a real eye opener. And this is what's going on in our world today.
[0:54] There's two diametrically opposed forces. The spirit of truth and the spirit of error. And there's a conflict going on. And there's a spiritual threat here between truth and error.
[1:06] And of course for us we know that there's much need for discernment in the last days that we're living in. And that we're all called to that. It's our duty as a believer. Discernment.
[1:16] Discernment. It's much needed. In some ways you could put it that we actually have much need of discrimination. Discrimination. Discrimination. Now of course we don't mean discrimination in a racial way which is totally wrong and abhorrent to the Christian.
[1:32] But we're talking about a discrimination in the sense of a deciding between two things. In that sense of discriminating between right and wrong. Between truth and error.
[1:43] And so there's a rightful, righteous discrimination. We see that as the prophet Elijah was at the Mount Carmel in 1 Kings 18.21. As he addressed the throng of people there.
[1:56] And it says, And Elijah came unto all the people and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? How long are you going to sit on the fence? Is what he was saying. How long are you going to stay in this kind of undecided state?
[2:11] Between these two opinions. If the Lord be God, follow him. But if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.
[2:23] And we know in the context of the test as Elijah trusted God to send the fire upon his sacrifice. Even though he doused it with water.
[2:34] And of course the prophets of Baal thrashed and cut themselves and screamed and shouted and danced and gyrated. And had all their emotional hullabaloo.
[2:45] And it fell flat because nothing happened for them. And we need a few more prophet Elijah's if you like. Not every preacher preaches the truth. And it is right and loving that we discriminate between truth and error.
[3:00] We must. We must find that difference. There's a discrimination. There's a discerning. A deciding between of right and wrong, of truth and error. And there's these two contrary spirits at work that are actively fighting and contesting.
[3:17] And so we're called, as the word tells us, judge righteous judgment. Many claim the scripture that says judge not and sort of labour that point. But there is the rightful need.
[3:29] As much as we judge not in terms of a harsh, fleshly kind of judgment. But there is a judging of righteous judgment. A judgment that is in accord with the word of God.
[3:41] A rightful discerning and discriminating, deciding between. A righteous judgment. Judge righteous judgment. God's people are ever faced with a relentless attack.
[3:53] As the spirit of error is invading the planet. And in the church scene, it's evident too. And sadly, many are falling prey to deception.
[4:04] As we touched on, as I say, in the early message today. As we see, it's a mark of the end days. We see Matthew 24, 11. Our Lord says, and many false prophets shall rise and shall deceive many.
[4:17] It's going to be this wholesale falling away into error and falsehood. Mark 13, 22. Likewise, it says, for false Christs and false prophets shall rise.
[4:28] And shall show signs and wonders. Well, they must be right. They've got signs and wonders. That's what some people think, isn't it? They shall show signs and wonders to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.
[4:44] They're going to have signs and wonders such that you're going to be quite tested to be swayed and seduced and pulled aside by this contrary error.
[5:00] Now, I put to you, can you believe everything that you hear? Of course not. You know, you go down the car yard and you hear the man with glowing terms describing the automobile there.
[5:15] And you can't always believe everything that you hear. Of course you don't. And it's evident these days there's this thing I was just hearing on the radio lately, you know, when they actually say that a new word has been put in the dictionary.
[5:30] A new phrase, a new term is so popular that they've decided to put it in, add it into the dictionary. And one of these terms is fake news. It's so much a contemporary issue that it's so evident.
[5:45] There's so much fake news out there. It's more evident these days. It probably always has been around, but now it's more visible. We see it more and note it more. And so fake news is a reality these days.
[5:57] The contrary of truth. The contradiction of truth. And our Lord himself evaluates the church. In the book of Revelation we see the seven churches.
[6:11] Our Lord cast his eye over them. And he scrutinised them. He checked them. And so you might be looking for a church and it's probably, it is a scriptural, spiritual thing to do that you do examine a church and you evaluate it.
[6:27] As our Lord did. There is a place to judge, to check, to question. There's this needful judgment and discrimination. Does it line up with the word of God?
[6:37] Or is there something not quite right there? There's something amiss. There's this needful discrimination between truth and error. We are told the word tells us, believe not every spirit.
[6:49] There's much talk about spirituality these days. It's like, there's almost this, it's almost trendy to have spirituality.
[7:00] Whether it's going and seeing the guru or going to some eastern mysticism or what do they call it these days. There's all the new found kind of meditatory kind of practices.
[7:14] I can't think of the buzzword. But, you know, it's almost like in the workplace now where you have these things going on and it's almost like, oh, it's spirituality.
[7:25] It's all quite accepted. But there is the truth that we are not to believe every spirit. As John says in 1 John 4 verse 1.
[7:35] He says, beloved, believe not every spirit but try the spirits whether they are of God. Because many false prophets have gone out into the world. We know that error comes in many guises.
[7:47] And the word speaks of strong delusion. Again, in the context of the latter days. And there's a danger of a different gospel as Paul said. Even if an angel comes from heaven. Now there's a man in America who said an angel came from heaven and had golden plates.
[8:02] And told about some fanciful story about Jesus coming to the Americas. And so we see that as Paul said, if an angel comes from heaven and preaches something that's contrary to the gospel here, then don't believe it.
[8:17] There's a danger of a different gospel. There's many preachers these days are preaching the prosperity gospel. It's not found in the scriptures. It's just some fanciful invention of the latter days.
[8:29] And we have a fight for the truth on our hands. And a crying need for discernment. We must discern. I beckon you. I urge you. I beseech you to discern.
[8:40] We must discern. It's a crying need for it. And as I say, when I was a young Christian I was exposed to some of these things. And at one time, I know I've mentioned it before, that I had a classmate who was an avid Muslim.
[8:55] And I had to check his claims out here and there and evaluate what his claims were, what the claims of his religion were. And likewise, at another time, I had a Mormon classmate who, again, was a nice guy.
[9:11] He was training to be a missionary. You know, he's just there in Matric in year 12. And he had his textbook there, how to answer the Christians, you know, how to answer the people they knock on the doors to.
[9:26] And a Mormon missionary says this. The candidate or the, you know, the one they're trying to contact says this. And, you know, line after line of how to answer and counter and question and interact with someone.
[9:45] And so he was well trained. And it prompted me as a Christian that probably wasn't that well grounded to really dig deep into the word. And ask, you know, what is the truth?
[9:56] How do I discern? How do I tell if one of us is wrong? Either he's wrong or I'm wrong. One of us is right. And so it was about that discerning.
[10:07] And I was able to read a book that was called So What's the Difference? And that was a real eye-opener. As we're going to cover some of the cults in times to come, we look at those cults. We see what is the difference between these various religions and these various beliefs.
[10:22] And there is a real difference between Christianity, biblical, Bible-based Christianity, and all other belief or disbelief systems. And we have a plumb line today.
[10:33] And it's the word of God. The Bible talks about the Bible, God's truth as being like a plumb line that shows the truth. It shows that which is straight, up and down, true. And how we are to measure, how we are to judge things as to what is God's sure truth.
[10:49] And God commends the scriptures to us, to search the scriptures, to judge what is truth. This word defines the truth. The definition of truth is here. It's in this book. The word defines the truth.
[11:01] And in Acts 17, 11, we're told of those commended, because that was their heart, to search the scriptures. In Acts 17, 11, these were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind and searched the scriptures daily.
[11:17] They're in the book daily, searching out whether those things were so that was being given out. They had to make sure they checked out the preacher. So check out the church.
[11:28] Check out the preacher. Is it biblical? It's biblical. The Bible, the Bible, is the absolute basis for truth. And as God's people, we need to hear the voice of our Lord.
[11:40] As his sheep, we need the voice of the shepherd. And now, I know I've kind of touched on some of these aspects of late, that we're pet owners now.
[11:53] We've got some sheep. We've got some sheep in the back paddock. And at first, they really didn't know us. And they were just scurrying here and there. And it's hard to contain them, hard to call them, hard to corral them.
[12:07] And eventually, we started to make a particular whistle, a particular call. And to have some hay and some pellets and grain and such.
[12:18] And to beckon the sheep with this call and to put it in the trough. And it didn't take long for them to hear the voice of the shepherd, if you like.
[12:30] The voice of the one calling them to come and eat. And they're getting to know Julie's voice too, as the shepherdess here. And so, we'd put the hay out and call them.
[12:41] And Julie took a little video of them. And they were having a race to get up the hill to come at the call, as they heard the call.
[12:52] And in John 10, 27, it says, our Lord says, My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. And of course, where is his voice? It's right here, in the pages of his word, where we have his voice.
[13:06] His voice, crystal clear, calling us, beckoning us, teaching us, guiding us. And as a shepherd, as it were, under the good shepherd, I have a duty.
[13:17] I'm duty bound to feed God's sheep, to guide the sheep, to protect the sheep. And likewise, we, for one another, we've got that compassion, that care for one another, as God's people, as brothers and sisters together.
[13:31] And in all things, we prayerfully seek God to be led and responsive to his voice, to his call, the voice of the shepherd. Because here it is, the voice of the shepherd.
[13:42] We must seek it, take it in, apply it, make it such that it is our sure guide. In Isaiah 8, verse 20, we read, To the law and to the testimony.
[13:55] If they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them. Now, I think the context there is of questioning, of testing, of false prophets.
[14:06] So, is it according to the word, this word? If not, it is because there is no light in them. So, in other words, does what we are hearing line up with the scripture?
[14:18] Now, we need to question that when we're tuning into the radio, when we're listening to the TV preachers or whatever it be, the YouTube channel. Now, is there a mismatch between what it says here and what they are saying?
[14:32] Is it, is what we are hearing in accord with historic Christianity? Historic biblical Christianity? Or is it out of line?
[14:44] And the reality is we cannot unite with error. Even if it's the popular way to go, even if popular Christianity, even if the majority would hold something or be swayed in a particular direction, we need to question it.
[15:04] And if it's such that we can determine it is error, we cannot unite with it, but we'd rather reprove it. So, there's a call for boldness.
[15:14] You know, we might be in a minority at times as God's people. And that's not to say there's anything to be ashamed of with that. And the Bible is the final and complete revelation of God to men.
[15:29] This is our foundation, our rock on which we build. The blessed, holy Bible. And we must not set this authority aside. Some do that. Where they would rather follow that which is trendy or that which is well, you know, well followed.
[15:51] The ecumenical movement is one case in point where it's anti-biblical. And we must renounce it. And we cannot join party with that which mixes truth and error.
[16:04] Because when you mix truth with error, you end up with error. You know, you mix good food with poison and it's poisoned. So, we'd rather steer clear of it.
[16:18] And spiritual discernment is the loving thing to do. We're not saying we're high and mighty and holier than thou as if we've got some entire call on the truth.
[16:31] But we've got that loving warning, that loving discernment that we need to have. And a love that cares enough to give warning. In Ezekiel 3 verse 17, we see the prophet was told, Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel.
[16:48] Therefore, hear the word at my mouth and give them warning from me. You know, if we hear the word at his mouth and give warning from me, from God.
[16:59] And that's what we want to do. Not some particular fleshly or personal viewpoint.
[17:11] But if it's God's warning. If the Bible is quite clear, we should not be afraid to declare what it says. And these days, my heart grieves for many loved ones and friends who are in deep error.
[17:26] And in disobedience and unbelief. Now that's because they've listened to another voice. Not the voice of the shepherd, but to another voice. And God's judgment will await those who turn from the shepherd's voice.
[17:43] And it's a sad thing to have that happen. And so we need to ask God for discernment today. As God's people, we're called to be lovers of the truth. Lovers of the truth.
[17:54] We've got a mission. We've got a message. And it's too fundamental and important for us to deviate. To kind of tailor it or to toy with it or to trifle with it.
[18:09] It's the truth that we must be founded upon. We're not here to twist it or turn it or make it fit our fancies. The Holy Scriptures is the standard.
[18:22] It's the believer's standard of truth. What did our Lord say when he was tempted in the wilderness by the enemy? He used the phrase, it is written.
[18:33] It is written. In black and white or whatever the colour of the text of that day. It is written. It was written. It was written down. And this is the phrase that our Lord used to counteract the prince of darkness.
[18:48] And our Lord used this exact same phrase that's used in the Holy Bible 46 times. It is written. This is our sword. When we're faced with that enemy, we can say, it is written.
[19:03] Amen. We cannot, we dare not, we must not deviate from this message. In John 10, 35, our Lord says, the scripture cannot be broken.
[19:14] Some people think this book's broken. That they need to somehow repair it or rewrite it or revise it or change it and mess with it.
[19:25] But the Lord says the scripture cannot be broken. We can have and we do have the absolute word of God. And so we can have a confidence that this book is the crystal clear truth, word for word.
[19:41] Word for word. You know, it doesn't say down the bottom that this verse is questionable or this may not be in this manuscript or whatnot. Because that is just casting doubt on the word of God.
[19:53] We don't have any doubt in this book. It is fundamental and truthful in every part. And the word of the Lord says as a commandment in Proverbs 30, verses 5 and 6, it says, Every, every word of God is pure.
[20:09] He is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar. So the Lord commands us, don't add to this word.
[20:22] This word is pure and uncontaminated. And we're not to tamper with it, but rather to treasure it and believe it. The Lord defined truth. He declared clearly in his prayer as he prayed for the disciples and those to believe, you and me.
[20:39] He prayed of the truth of God's word. He said, sanctify them. Sanctify them. Make them holy. Make them a sanctified people. Sanctify them through thy truth.
[20:52] Thy word is truth. Thy word is truth. He defined truth in that verse. In Matthew 4, verse 4, as he was addressing the enemy, he said, It is written, man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
[21:12] There was an old-time preacher that said this. I'm quoting this part here. He said, The principle laid down is this. Prove all things by the word of God. All ministers. All teachings.
[21:23] All preaching. All doctrines. All sermons. All writings. All opinions. All practices. Prove all by the word of God. Compare all with the standards of the Bible.
[21:37] Weigh all in the balances of the Bible. Examine all by the light of the Bible. Test all in the crucible of the Bible. That which can abide the fire of the Bible.
[21:48] Receive. Hold. Believe. And obey. That which cannot abide the fire of the Bible. Reject. Refuse. Repudiate. And cast away.
[21:58] This must be our standard. Our guide. And so we can and we must have the sure word. By it we are born again. We need this word to save us.
[22:12] As it says in 1 Peter 1.23. Being born again. Not of corruptible seed. But of incorruptible. By the word of God which liveth and abideth forever.
[22:24] Now I tell the story sometimes where I'm not much of a green thumb. And I went to my shed and I had some old seed packets there.
[22:35] That said they expired about five years ago. And I put them in the ground and nothing happened. It was perishable seed. It was corruptible seed. But this word, this scripture, this text here tells us that this word of God is uncorruptible seed.
[22:50] Amen. It liveth and abideth forever. It is incorruptible. And so the Holy Spirit will not lead us into doctrinal error. The Spirit of God will lead us to study the word.
[23:01] And we should have the prayer of the psalmist. In Psalm 119. That great psalm about the precious word of God. It says in verse 18. Open thou mine eyes that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.
[23:17] What a prayer. Shouldn't we have that prayer every time we open this book? As we open the pages. Open thou mine eyes. That I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.
[23:29] Let it be a prayer. As we open the pages of this precious book. That it will open our understanding to it. There is no time for lukewarmness. There's no time for that these days.
[23:41] You know some would err and question and doubt. And cast doubt on the very pages of this book. Some would try to add tradition.
[23:52] Or perhaps add extra biblical revelation. As if this isn't enough. There's got to be some new revelation. Oh I've got a word from the Lord for you. Blah blah blah blah blah.
[24:02] But it's nothing in here. It's not the word. Extra biblical revelation. That's what Joseph Smith had. That's what many claim today. And friends.
[24:13] We should be very careful about such a claim. As if the word of God is not enough. We've got to add to it. We must oppose those who would twist the scriptures.
[24:24] Or take a detour from the biblical pathway. That's not to say the Lord can't quicken a scripture. And give us a leading by his spirit.
[24:36] But it's when people go off on a tangent. With some new fad vision or revelation. Which is contrary. Or aside from the clear direction of scripture.
[24:48] And people can get in all kinds of messes when they do that. So we must counteract error. And rather stand up for the truth. Friends we're called as God's people.
[25:00] Not to conform. But rather to contend. For the faith. You know really we are non-conformists. We see those back through times of history.
[25:11] Where it was the non-conformists. They didn't conform to the establishment. To the established church. At times they would be a lone voice. Crying in the wilderness.
[25:24] And be non-conformists. At the threat of losing their very life. And liberty. As we know some. As the author of Pilgrim's Progress was one example.
[25:36] As many such men and women. Who have stood the fires of the martyrs. And have withstood the popular tide. To speak out for truth.
[25:46] To contend for the faith. And we should be in their number. Jude 1.3 it says. Beloved. When I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation. It was needful for me to write unto you.
[25:59] And exhort you that. You should earnestly. Earnestly. Contend for the faith. Once delivered unto the saints. Let's not carelessly.
[26:10] Or nonchalantly. Or you know. Sloppily contend for the faith. Let's earnestly contend for it. This is no time for tolerance. We cannot tolerate error.
[26:23] We must oppose it. While still. Keeping the spirit of meekness. As I talked about this morning. Because. Woe betide us.
[26:33] If we think that we stand. We can be at risk of falling our own selves. So. But rather let's be intolerant. Of that which is contradictory to the truth of God. Don't be afraid to stand up for your faith.
[26:46] Don't be afraid. You might be the lone Christian in your workplace. School place. In your home environments. Don't stand back. Stand up. And.
[26:58] As a church. We want to have that. Righteous stand. That godly stand. To teach the truth of God. To teach biblical priorities. To ground the people. And.
[27:09] There is a place for rebuke. For correction. For confrontation. The hard truth. You know. As our lord. Did not shy away from.
[27:21] His call to discipleship. And. As we know. It says that many forsook him. And fled. And. You know. At one point. He had multitudes. And then. It's like.
[27:32] He was. Right down to. A skeleton. Crew of people. And even then. He wondered where. They were really at. At times. Such that.
[27:42] He wasn't afraid. To declare the hard truth. And to call for. A. Consecration. And. Our lord called out. The leaven of the pharisees. He wasn't afraid.
[27:53] To call them what they were. Scribes. Pharisees. Hypocrites. You know. Sepulchres. You know. These. Like a tomb full of dead men's bones. He called them all.
[28:04] These. Pretty strong words. It was hard truth. From our lord's lips. He didn't shy away. But yet. Many times. We are. Urged likewise. To. Discern the truth.
[28:14] From error. We know the word tells us. It warns us of heresies. Heresies. We know. There's folk. That have been through. All kinds of turmoil. Through. Different.
[28:26] Groups. That claim to be Christian. And yet. They've got all wacky. Detours. From the truth. And. And emphasis. In. That is contrary. To the emphasis.
[28:37] Of the word. And. It. Ties people up in knots. And causes great harm. And. Difficulty. And we know. This is what's going on today. And our lord warns of this.
[28:48] It says. Of heresies. Heresies. This means a variance. A. A. A. A divisive. A. A. An undermining of truth.
[28:59] It means a teaching of that which is not true. It means a teaching of that which is not in the word of God. Heresies. And. If I choose to believe what a man says.
[29:11] That is not in harmony with the word of God. I have chosen something that's. The bible says it is destructive. Heresy. Heresies. In 2 Peter 2 verse 1.
[29:22] It tells of false prophets. Of false teachers among you. Peter warns. Who shall. Privily. Or. Kind of. Undercover. They shall bring in damnable heresies. It may not be quite apparent.
[29:34] They'll do it privily. In other words. Kind of privately. Or. Under covert means. They'll just. Kind of sneak in. With these damnable heresies. And we know that Galatians 5 calls heresies.
[29:46] One of the works of the flesh. It's a fleshly thing. When a man or woman. Tries to spout. To teach. To. Promote. Something that is contrary to the word of God.
[29:58] A heresy. It's a damnable destructive thing. And we're witnessing today. This wholesale departure. From sound doctrine. Where preachers. In many quarters.
[30:08] They're focused on storytelling. And fables. Telling fables. Rather than. Telling the truth. And giving something that's. Intrinsically biblical.
[30:20] And grounded in the scriptures. And rather the word of God is being undermined. Instead of the Bible being upheld. And esteemed.
[30:31] And honoured. Paul wrote to Titus. A Greek convert. Who he appointed to set elders. In the churches established in Crete. And he addressed Titus. In Titus 1 verse 9.
[30:41] He says. Holding fast. The faithful word. As has. As he has been taught. That he may be able. By sound doctrine. Both to exhort. And convict.
[30:52] Those who. Contradict. There's that. Holding fast. The faithful word. And some people will oppose. Sound doctrine. They will not be teachable. People today. We cannot.
[31:03] Just believe. Anything we like. We must find the truth. And guard it. It must be biblical. And that's my plea to you. To every believer. That we must be a biblical people.
[31:16] To judge the counterfeits. And oppose them. To preach the straight out gospel. To not curry favour. To not dilute it. Or change it.
[31:28] But preach it like it is. The straight out gospel. It's how we show our love for the lost. And that can mean. Some straight out. Truth telling.
[31:39] And I thank God for those that are witnessing in this church. Now I've had. Folk contact me. Numbers of folk. Of recent times. Asking about the church.
[31:50] And turning up. So we need to show our love for the lost. How do we do that? By declaring the truth. By giving them the gospel. And friends.
[32:00] This book is balanced. It talks about the goodness. And severity of God. It's a balanced message. You know. It's. There's need to consider both of those truths about God.
[32:15] His goodness and his severity. And we need to take it seriously. And so. As we wind up here. Look. As a church. My heart.
[32:26] My heart. For you. For us. Is that we be a solidly biblical church. It always has been. And. My heart. Is crying out. That we would have.
[32:37] A biblical foundation. In all of the doctrines. And practices. In how we operate. In how we. Are constituted. That we're biblically founded.
[32:48] Squarely upon biblical authority. Biblical authority. Biblical authority. That everything that we believe. That we teach. In what we sing. Is biblically true. Is biblically true.
[33:00] It accords with scripture. And. That what we teach. Is sound. Gospel. Truth. That. Where. That we take the call. To evangelize seriously.
[33:11] Seriously enough. To do something. And to do it biblically. And that we be a church. That's committed to biblical discipleship. So that when someone. Trusts Christ.
[33:22] They're nurtured. And encouraged. And. Built up. Biblical. In how we worship. Fellowship. The bible. Does give us.
[33:32] An objective standard. On how we are. To please God. And we must accord. With that. And as a church. That we take on board. The biblical.
[33:42] Call to fellowship. And to be a consistent. And faithful people. To our church. That we exercise. Biblical. Church discipline. When someone. Gets out of line.
[33:54] We seek to restore them. We. Are honest enough. To speak with them. In accordance. With the scriptures. And that. Those who lead. Are godly men.
[34:05] Who meet the biblical. Requirements. To serve. We are accountable. To this unalterable. Standard. It's unalterable. It cannot be deviated from. And now more than ever.
[34:15] We call to be a resolute people. A biblical people. A bible centered people. There are no shortcuts. We must accord. With the word. And as we do accord. With the word.
[34:26] There's liberty there. There's glorious liberty. There's glorious. Blessing there. Because we're honoring. Our lord. Whom. Who we call to please. Above all things.
[34:38] And we know that the spirit of god. Is the spirit of truth. As we started off. With that scripture. There's a spirit of truth. And a spirit of error. And the question is.
[34:50] Which one? Which one? In John 16. 13. It says. How be it when he. The spirit of truth. Is come. He will guide you.
[35:00] Into all truth. For he shall not speak. Of himself. But whatsoever he shall hear. That. Shall he speak. And he shall show you.
[35:10] Things to come. Now the holy spirit. Doesn't come. To glorify himself. You know. In some quarters. It's all. The holy spirit. This. And the holy spirit. That.
[35:21] If it's the holy spirit. He will be talking. And glorifying Christ. He will glorify Christ. He will. Guide you. Into all truth. He shall not speak. Of himself.
[35:32] He's going to guide you. Into all truth. And the holy spirit. Will always give the glory. To the lord. Jesus Christ. The holy spirit. Will always. Accord with the holy scriptures.
[35:42] That is the holy spirit. That is who he is. He accords with the scriptures. And so. Our supreme object. As a. God helping us. A biblical church.
[35:53] Is to glorify our lord. That must be our. Absolute. And ultimate. And essential aim. To glorify. To honour him. To be that people. Unto his.
[36:04] Praise. For our lord's glory. To be grounded. Firmly in this truth. The truth of god. And so. The question. In closing. Is this. Do you love.
[36:15] Or hate the truth. This is what it ultimately. Balls down to. This is what ultimately. Defines us. Are we a lover. Of the truth. Do we search it out.
[36:26] Do we. Hunger and thirst. After righteousness. Do we want to be filled. And nurtured. Do we want to study. And take it in. And prayerfully. Receive. God's leading. Through his scriptures.
[36:37] As his spirit. Leads us. Or will we be those. Who are. Prone to the. Other voice. The many voices. Out there. Let's rather have the voice.
[36:48] Of the shepherd. Not listen to the spirit. Of error. The many spirits. Of error. But rather listen. To the spirit. Of truth. Who is in accord. With his word. And who will be glorified.
[36:59] As we. Seek him. And seek to honour him. By obeying his word. And putting it into action. And friends. Today. The greatest truth. Is his saving grace.
[37:10] It says. That. We are born again. Through the pages. Of this book. Through the message. Of this book. If we'll. Put our trust. In. Accord.
[37:20] With. His call. And receive. His salvation. Then. Friends. That is the beginning. Of this. Walk with God.
[37:31] And. It says. That the path. Of the just. Is brighter. And brighter. To that perfect day. Amen. We know. For the meantime. There's some.
[37:41] Earthly. Treading to do. There's some. Hilly bits. And. Valleys. But. The path. Of the just. Is going to get.
[37:53] Brighter and brighter. Unto the. Perfect day. Let's pray. Lord. We thank you. For your truth. That it is. Heart changing. It's. It's. It's eternity. Changing.
[38:03] Lord. We thank you. That we're born again. Because of the truth. Of your call. In this book. Lord. That tells us. To come unto you. Pray for every believer. Here present. That each one.
[38:14] Might know. That we have victory. We have victory. It may not always feel like it. Because we're still. Waging war. But Lord. We know. The ultimate conflict. Has already been won.
[38:26] And we're just. Waiting. For that crowning day. Lord. We thank you. For your scriptures. That are the truth. The whole truth. And nothing but the truth. And Lord.
[38:36] We thank you. That we can. Put our hearts trust. In this message. And let it live Lord. Let each one here. Be encouraged. May we be a biblical church. Lord. To your glory and praise.
[38:47] In Jesus name. Amen. Amen. Amen.
