God is Faithful

[0:00] Glory. Glory. God is faithful, isn't he? Amen. We're going to sing shortly.

[0:30] Thomas Chisholm. He did not write this hymn because of something great or even miraculous that had happened in his life. No, rather he wrote it because as he looked back over his life, he learned to see the great faithfulness of God.

[0:46] Amen. And at age 75 he wrote these words, My income has not been large at any time due to impaired health in the earlier years, which has followed me on until now.

[0:56] Although I must not fail to record here the unfailing faithfulness of a covenant-keeping God and that he has given me many wonderful displays of his providing care, for which I am filled with astonishing gratefulness.

[1:12] God is faithful. God is faithful. It's his name. It's one of the names of our God. It says in Revelation 19.11, one of the very names of our Lord Jesus.

[1:26] He's faithful. Faithful and true. Revelation 19.11, And I saw heaven open, says John the Revelator, and behold a white horse. And he that sat upon him was called faithful and true.

[1:40] And in righteousness he doth judge and make war. We're working through the book of Revelation on our study nights of late and I know we talked about the faithful witness.

[1:53] It's one of the names of our Lord himself. He is faithful. Amen. Amen. He's faithful. He's true. And you can count on him. He's 100% reliable. Always.

[2:05] Amen is another of his names. We read in Revelation 3.14, Amen. And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write, These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God.

[2:22] Amen means it's certainly true. Amen means it's certainly true. Absolutely true. It's certain. It's rock solid. Guaranteed. He's faithful. You can trust who he is.

[2:33] It's his very name. His nature. He's the God that we can trust. Jeremiah cried out of this one. It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed.

[2:43] Because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning. Great is thy faithfulness. Great is thy faithfulness.

[2:54] God will not fail us. His compassions fail not. God does not fail. He is faithful. Faithful. It means dependable. Trustworthy.

[3:06] Steadfast. Worthy of trust. A faithful person keeps their word. When someone who's faithful says something, you know it's true. It's Amen. It's guaranteed. It's for sure.

[3:18] It's fair dinkum. Our faith is in this one. Our trust is in him. The faithful one. And he is someone we can believe in. You can place your trust in him. He is one who will not fail you.

[3:30] We have faith as we believe God's word. Because he is faithful. His word will not fail us. We read of the word of God. As the word is the faithful word.

[3:41] One of the names of the word of God. Faithful word. He delivers what he says he will do. What is our part? Believe. Hold fast. It says in Hebrews 10.23.

[3:53] Let us hold fast the profession of our faith. Without wavering. For he is faithful. That promised. Again. Underlining that word.

[4:03] He is faithful. That promised. He has promised it. These are his promises. In black and white and red. Between the covers. Are the faithful promises. Of the faithful God.

[4:14] We can believe God's promises. You can trust his promises. You can take them. As yay. And amen. God promised a son to be born. To a husband. And wife.

[4:25] Who are nearly 100 years old. Imagine that. Abraham and Sarah. Received his promise. And they believed. God. Would do. What he promised.

[4:36] To do. Hebrews 11.11. It says. Through faith also. Sarah. Herself received strength. To conceive seed. And was delivered. Of a child. When she was past age.

[4:47] Because she judged. Him. Faithful. Who had promised. Sarah. Took the promise. And she. Counted. The deliverer. Of that promise.

[4:58] Faithful. And she believed. His word. Sarah believed. Her faith. Was in a faithful God. She trusted in. God's faithfulness. Every word of God.

[5:08] Is true. It says. In Psalm 119. Of course. The psalm. Jam-packed. With promises. About the. Truth. Of the word of God. Psalm 119.

[5:19] Verses 89. Through 90. It says. Forever. O Lord. Thy word. Is settled. In heaven. Thy faithfulness. Is unto. All generations.

[5:30] Thou hast established. The earth. And it abided. Friends. His word. Is forever. Forever faithful. His faithfulness. Is forever. He is the ever. Faithful.

[5:41] God. And many people. These days. Are unfaithful. You can't believe. A word they say. They let you down. You know. If you ever had that. Not the. Not bagging any sales people.

[5:53] Present. But you get some people. They promise you all these things. And when you actually get the product. It just doesn't. Cut it. It's not. It doesn't measure up to all their promises. But we know that the promises of God.

[6:04] Are yay. And amen. They're guaranteed. What God says. We can believe. And we. He is trustworthy. He is worthy of our trust. So you can believe God.

[6:15] God can. Can be guaranteed to deliver. He will not fail you. You can be certain of this. God cannot lie. He just cannot. He cannot lie. Numbers 23.

[6:26] Verse 19. God is not a man. That he should lie. Neither. He the son of man. That he should repent. Had he said. And shall he not do it. Or had he spoken. And it shall.

[6:37] Shall he not. Make it good. He's not a man. That he should lie. God cannot lie. He is truth. His truth. He is the truth. The way.

[6:48] The truth. And the life. And John heard a great voice from heaven. In Revelation 21. And he says. He that sat upon the throne said. Behold. I make all things new.

[7:00] And he said unto me. Write. For these words. Are faithful. Are true. And faithful. Every word of God is true. It says.

[7:11] These words are true. And faithful. You can take them as read. You can take them. Personally. As God's promised to you. And know them. In your life.

[7:22] True for you. There's times where we can wonder. Where God is. Maybe we are. At times in. Situations. Times of trouble. Yet he just. Does not leave us.

[7:33] It's one of his promises. That he will not leave us. He will not forsake us. He is forever with us. He does not leave us. He is present. He is present. He is present. In your valley. He is present.

[7:43] In your storm. There was a small boy. Flying a kite. And as he was flying. It got cloudy. And a passer boy. A passer by.

[7:55] Asked the little boy. What he was doing. And he was there. He was flying his kite. Holding this string. The man looked up. And he couldn't see the kite. Because of this cloudy. Expans. And he says.

[8:05] I don't see any kite. How do you know. It's still there. He says. I don't see it either. But I know it's up there. Because once in a while. I tug on my string. Now many Christians.

[8:17] Sometimes can. Get situations. Where they wonder. Is God still with me. Has God disappeared. Especially. At times. When we. Most need him.

[8:28] When we feel like we need him. The most. Take heart. Child of God. Just because you can't see him. Doesn't mean he is not there. Keep holding on.

[8:38] To the Lord. He is faithful. Even when you can't feel his presence. Hang on. And sooner or later. You'll feel the tug. On the line. That lets you know. He is still there. Amen.

[8:49] He's there. He's there. Right with you. Because God is faithful. God is faithful. In our times of suffering. It's even. Closer then. That. Even more so then.

[9:00] That we have that sense. Of his faithfulness. It reads. In 1 Peter 4. 19. Wherefore let them. That suffer according to the will of God. Commit the keeping of their souls to him.

[9:11] In well doing. As unto a faithful creator. He's saying in times of suffering. As you suffer according to the will of God. Now some would consider. That sickness and suffering.

[9:23] Is not the will of God for the believer. Yet this verse shows. That it can be. It can be. When we go through suffering. God is still faithful. Even more so.

[9:35] He is close. To you. We can still have God's peace. In the time of adversity. Because God is faithful. He's eternally faithful.

[9:45] And he has promised. Is faithful. He has promised. To be with you. He will be with you. Where did Jeremiah say.

[9:56] Great is thy faithfulness. It was in the book of Lamentations. It's a book full of desolations. And weeping. And woes. And Jeremiah was downcast.

[10:07] He was in affliction. Yet amidst all of this. All of this suffering. And sadness. He could yet say. Great is thy faithfulness. Even here.

[10:18] In this time. Of lamenting. Of Jerusalem's destruction. And the unfaithfulness. Of the people. Jeremiah could still. Count. And call upon. And claim.

[10:29] And proclaim. The great faithfulness of God. And give him praise. In the dark night of the soul. We can still find hope. We can still cry out. As Jeremiah. Great is thy faithfulness.

[10:43] Jeremiah could yet rejoice. In God's steadfast love. In his unfailing love. His mercies are new. Every morning. Every morning. Even in the bad mornings.

[10:56] His mercies are new. Every. Single. Morning. Every single morning. God is faithful. And afflictions are necessary. For us. Hosea 5.15.

[11:08] Tells us. In part. It says. In their affliction. They will seek me early. In their affliction. They will seek me early. So we read how God chastens those.

[11:19] Who he loves. God is faithful. In our times of suffering. God is faithful. In assuring us victory. 1 Corinthians 10.13. It reads.

[11:29] They have no temptation taken you. But such as is common to man. But God is faithful. Who will not suffer you. To be tempted above. That you are able. But will with the temptation.

[11:41] Also make a way. To escape. That you may be able to bear it. It's telling us here. That God is assuring us here. That there is a victory for us. God is working all things.

[11:52] The good. The bad. The unfortunate. The hard. The ugly. The difficult. The confusing things. All of them. Working them all together. For good. For our good.

[12:04] In time of trial. In time of testing. In times of temptations. It says. God is faithful. Three words. God is.

[12:15] Faithful. And it tells you. Brother. Sister. It tells you. In those. Times of testing. That he will provide. The way to escape. He will provide that way.

[12:27] The way of escape. The way of victory. People might have heard. Of Gladys Aylward. Who served as a missionary. In China. Before World War II.

[12:38] And when the Japanese army. Invaded northern China. Gladys was forced. To flee. Yang Cheng. Taking with her. Some 100 orphans. She had an orphanage there.

[12:49] The Japanese invaded. She led these orphans. To safety. Across the mountains. She despaired. Of ever making it to safety. And after a sleepless night.

[12:59] She was reminded by. A little 13 year old girl. Of Moses. And of the parting of the Red Sea. The little girl. Talked to her. Of Moses. Of the parting of the Red Sea.

[13:12] And Gladys said. But I am not Moses. Jesus. And the little girl said. Of course you aren't. But Jehovah. Is still God. Amen. He is still God.

[13:24] No matter what mountains. May loom before us. God is still God. And we can trust in him. As the song goes. Got any rivers you think are uncrossable.

[13:35] Got any mountains you can't tunnel through. And the answer to that. Is God specializes in things. Thought impossible. You know with God.

[13:45] Nothing is impossible. He is the faithful God. And he is faithful. As he was with the men and women. Of faith of old. He is faithful for you. For we. In the present.

[13:56] And the future to come. Even when the children of Israel. Disobeyed God. And they turned their backs on him. Yet he delivered them. Time and time again. In Exodus 16.

[14:06] 35. It tells us that the children of Israel. Ate manna. That bread from heaven. 40 years. 40 years. Of God's provision. God is faithful. In his provision.

[14:18] God told Joshua. Deuteronomy 31. He says. Be strong and have a good courage. Fear not. Be not afraid of them. For the Lord thy God. He it is that doth go.

[14:29] With thee. He will not. Fail thee. Nor forsake thee. The promise of God. To Joshua. Is the same to you. Dear sister.

[14:40] Brother. This morning. The Lord. Is with you. He will not fail you. He will not forsake you. And again. In Joshua 1. Verse 5.

[14:51] It reads. There shall not any man. Be able to stand. Before thee. All the days of the life. As I was with Moses. So I will be with thee. I will not fail thee. Nor forsake thee.

[15:03] God says. I will not fail thee. God says. I will not forsake thee. God says. I am faithful to you. As someone has said. If I had no care. I should have no prayer.

[15:13] Sometimes it's those times. When we have care. It leads us to prayer. Amen. When we have those times of trial. It leads us to trust. When we have those times.

[15:24] Of testing. It leads us ultimately. To have a testimony. Amen. God will see you through. To the other side of this. That storm. Situation. Because God.

[15:35] Will not fail. God's salvation. Will not fail. What do the promises of God say. About salvation. God's salvation. Will not fail.

[15:46] Our salvation. Lies in faithful hands. Now. I thank God. That. My salvation. Isn't dependent on me. But on him. Who is faithful. Amen. He is faithful.

[15:57] And he has promised. Many things. Including. The security. Of your salvation. In Jude 1. 24. Through 25. Now unto him. That he is able.

[16:07] To keep you from. Falling. And to present you faultless. Before the presence. Of his glory. With exceeding joy. To the only wise God. Our saviour. Be. Glory. And majesty.

[16:18] Dominion. And power. Both now. And forever. Amen. God's salvation. Will not fail. You've got that promise there. Brother. Sister. You know.

[16:29] Sometimes we. Have moments. Where we might. Wonder. But we dare not wonder. It's. It's in his hands. You can have that assurance. And that comfort. And it's a true comfort.

[16:40] Not a false comfort. Because God's salvation. If it is God's salvation. It will not fail. Amen. You can. Take heart believer. And God's forgiveness. Will not fail us.

[16:52] God's forgiveness. It says. In 1 John 1. Verse 9. It says. If we confess. Our sins. He is faithful. And just. There it says it again. He is faithful. If we confess our sins.

[17:02] He is faithful. And just. To forgive us. Our sins. And to cleanse us. From all. Unrighteousness. So. Believer today. God's forgiveness. Will.

[17:13] Not fail us. Think of that. You might think. Sometimes. You're so unworthy. Join the club. It's his faithfulness. It's his forgiveness.

[17:24] That gives. Such grace. Such kindness. As we. As a Mephibosheth. Would dine at the king's table. That's only the kindness. And grace. And mercy. And faithfulness of God.

[17:35] That he places. He lays the table for us. Thank him. God's forgiveness. Will not fail us. He never fails. He always keeps his promises. And of this.

[17:46] We can be sure. His promises. Will not fail. The promises of God. They flow from his love. The one who cannot lie. He's given us promises. They are yea and amen.

[17:57] And they are for you. The promises of God. They flow from above. From his love. And they're intended to support. His. The faith and hope. Of his very people. In seasons of trouble.

[18:09] And trial. Here's. An example. Of course. We know. There's context. There's application. Who is addressing to. But many. You can broadly apply. The concept.

[18:19] The principles. The characteristics. Of our God. Are still. Nevertheless. Applicable. I put to you. That you can say. Yes. I can see. God here. And here's my God.

[18:31] Even though this is addressing Israel. Of course. In this. Particular reference. Isaiah 43. Verse 1 through 3. It says. But now. Thus saith the Lord. That created thee. O Jacob.

[18:41] And he that formed thee. O Israel. Fear not. For I have redeemed thee. I have called thee. By. Thy name. Thou art. Mine. When thou passest through the waters.

[18:54] I will be with thee. And through the rivers. They shall not overflow thee. When thou walkest through the fire. Thou shalt not be burned. Neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. Why.

[19:06] For I am the Lord thy God. The Holy One of Israel. Thy Saviour. Surely he is. Our Saviour. We that trust him. And know him. In this new covenant time.

[19:17] In this church. Dispensation. That we are redeemed. We called by his name. And he is with us. He will be with us through the fire. He will be with us through the rivers.

[19:28] He will be with us. Through those times of testing. That will come against us. That. And we can claim his promises. That we need. Fear not. And we can trust.

[19:40] His keeping. There was a woman who. Suffered many losses. And she went to a great doctor. For sympathy. Obviously something was. Was wrong. For her.

[19:51] And. She was in his study. For some time. And then she suddenly exclaimed. I've got it. I've got it. And the surprised doctor. Immediately. Asked what she had got.

[20:02] And. Instead of answering directly. She pointed to a text. Over the mantelpiece. And it. It had these words. Thou remainest. Thou remainest. And she said. I see now that.

[20:13] No matter how much I lose. God remains. And he is all I need. And we see that. In this reference here. In Hebrews 1. Verses 10 through 12.

[20:25] So this woman. You know. Quite distraught. Time of loss. And suffering. She saw. And took comfort. In the words here. In verse 11. We see it there.

[20:35] Thou remainest. The text there. Hebrews 1. 10 through 12. It reads. And thou. O Lord. In the beginning. Hast laid the foundation.

[20:45] Of the earth. And the heavens. Are the work of thine hands. They shall perish. But thou remainest. You know. The. The earth.

[20:56] The heavens. We know the Bible speaks about. A new heaven. A new earth. It will be restored. Renewed. Refreshed. It won't be the same. Earth and heaven. It will all be renewed.

[21:07] It says. That's going to all pass away. But it says. Thou remainest. Thou remainest. God remains. He's faithful. It says. It reads on. That they shall perish.

[21:17] They. Thou remainest. And they all shall wax old. As doth a garment. And as a vesture. Shalt thou fold them up. And they shall be changed. But thou art the same.

[21:29] And thy years shall not fail. Again. It's the claim of. Of the promises of God. That we can claim. That our God is eternal. He is the eternal God.

[21:41] And he will not fail. So friends. Today. We can truly cry out. Our soul can cry out. To this one. And say. Great is thy faithfulness. As it reads.

[21:52] In Lamentations 3. Verses 22. Through 23. It is of the Lord's mercies. That we are not consumed. Because his compassions fail not.

[22:04] You know. The Bible speaks about. Our God is a. Consuming fire. You know. If God was to. Fully vent. The. The. The due punishment.

[22:16] We would be consumed. But because Christ took the wrath. At the cross. Because. Our Lord Jesus took. The full measure of God's. Anger against our sin.

[22:28] In the punishment. Of the son. At the cross. We can know. His forgiveness. We can know. That. His compassions. Fail not. That he would love us so.

[22:40] That Christ would bear. Our pain. Our punishment. His compassions. Fail not. His mercies. Do not fail. His love.

[22:51] His kindness. His loving kindness. It fails not. And it says. They are new. Every morning. God's mercies are new. Every morning. Great is. Thy faithfulness.

[23:02] Think of it. He is constant. He doesn't stop. He is unstoppable. With his mercies. His mercies are unstoppable. His mercies will be with you tomorrow morning. And the morning after.

[23:14] And the morning after that. His mercies are new. It says. Every. Every morning. Morning after morning. Here is what someone wrote. New. Every morning. Yay.

[23:24] New. Every morning. Though we. May awake. Our heart with old sorrow. Beginning to ache. With old work unfinished. When night stayed our hand.

[23:36] With new duties waiting. Unknown and unplanned. With old care still pressing. To fret and to vex. With new problems rising. Our minds to perplex.

[23:46] In ways long familiar. In paths yet untrod. O new. Every morning. The mercies. Of God. His faithfulness fails not.

[23:56] It meets. Each new day. New guidance. For every. New step. Of the way. New grace. For new trials. New trust. For old fears. New patience.

[24:08] For bearing. The wrongs. Of the years. New strength. For new burdens. New courage. For old. New faith. For whatever. The day. May unfold.

[24:18] As fresh. For each need. As the dew. On the sod. O new. Every morning. The mercies. Of God. God's faithfulness. Sustains us.

[24:28] You might say. Brother. Sister. Things are hard for me. His mercies. Are going to be new. Tomorrow morning. As they were today. That we.

[24:39] We're not consumed. His compassions fail not. It's of the Lord's mercies. That we are not consumed. It's all thanks to his mercy. That he would withhold. His judgment against us.

[24:51] Because he's paid it. At the cross. For you. But trust him. Deuteronomy 7 verse 9. It says. Know therefore that the Lord thy God. He is God.

[25:01] The faithful God. Which keepeth covenant and mercy. With them that love him. And keep his commandments. To a thousand generations. His faithfulness is strong.

[25:12] His faithfulness. It speaks of the steadiness. He has. On our behalf. Friends. He is our pilot. Our captain. And he's steering our lives. Through the. At times.

[25:23] Those choppy seas. Through those rocky reefs. And we can trust. His hand. We can trust. His leading. It says in Psalm 100 verse 5. For the Lord is good.

[25:34] His mercy is everlasting. And his truth endureth. To all generations. So friends. Today. Believe and trust him. God is going to be faithful.

[25:47] As he has been. He is. And he will be. In all the situations. Of your life. Whatever faces you. No matter what's going to happen.

[25:58] Around the corner. No matter what is going on. Around you. Consider. Consider God's faithfulness. To Noah. You know. Noah and his family. The grace. God gave.

[26:09] God's faithfulness. To Job. In the midst. Of all his tests. God's faithfulness. To Moses. In that time. Of great. Trial. Before Pharaoh. God's faithfulness.

[26:21] To Joshua. And friends. God's faithfulness. To you. It's the same. Because he's the same. Faithful God. Amen. He's the same God. As he is. As he was. Is. And will be.

[26:32] And so. You can trust. The trustworthiness. Of him. It says. Blessed. Is the man. That trusteth in him. So keep believing. In God's faithfulness.

[26:43] Believe. God. Will be there. For you. Psalm 36. 5. It says. Thy mercy. O Lord. Is in the heavens. And thy faithfulness. Reacheth unto the clouds.

[26:55] You know. His faithfulness. Is. Is. Huge. It's expansive. It reaches. To the heavens. And. We may respond.

[27:07] In faithfulness. To God's faithfulness. To us. Out of faith. Comes faithfulness. You know. Friends. We. As God's children. We're exhorted. To faithfulness. Too. Our faith.

[27:18] Prompts. Faithfulness. One follows. The other. It. It costs. To be faithful. You know. We can. Find. Occasion. Where. It'd be easy. To cut corners.

[27:28] And do something. That is unfaithful. But friends. We serve. A faithful God. And he wants. That same. Characteristic. In us. To be faithful. It costs. To be faithful. It costs.

[27:39] Abraham. The yielding up. Of his only son. It costs. Esther. The risk. Of her life. It costs. Daniel. Being cast. Into. The den of lions. It costs. Shadrach. Meshach.

[27:50] And Abednego. To be. Put into the fiery furnace. It costs. Stephen. Death. By stoning. It costs. Peter. A martyr's death. It costs. Paul. His life.

[28:01] Does it cost you. Anything. To be faithful. To your lord. And king. I mean. Really. It's only. Right. And due. That we should. Be faithful.

[28:12] So friends. Great. Is thy faithfulness. O God. My father. There is no shadow. Of turning. With you. He's not variable. He's not a. Kind of. A variable.

[28:23] In his. Giving love. Or grace. He's. Unchanging. He's unbending. He's. He's not got some. Variableness. His. His love.

[28:35] Is constant. And it says. Thou changest not. Thy compassions. They fail not. As they hast been. Thou forever. Will be. So. Take heart. Believer today.

[28:46] God is. Faithful. Always. Faithful. To you. No matter what. Your circumstance. No matter what. Your lot. In life. No matter what. Might.

[28:58] Be daunting ahead. No matter what. Unknown. Trials. Yet. Face you. God is there. Already there. God is faithful. And you can trust God.

[29:10] No matter what. No matter where you are. In life. So let's take heart. Believers today. Let's pray. Lord we thank you that you are truly faithful. And Lord we see your faithfulness.

[29:23] As you dealt with the men and women. Who knew you. And. For these ones here. Each one. That is here. That is joining. Perhaps from.

[29:33] Afar. Lord. That we can know your faithfulness. And it is new. Every morning. And we thank you for it. Lord we praise you. We pray each one might know. That faith.

[29:44] That. You give. Such. Joy to us. As we believe. You give such great gifts. And. You've given. Your everything for us.

[29:56] Lord. We pray. Help us to be steady. To be. Steadfast. Lord to. Hold on to your faithful word. Help us Lord.

[30:07] To know your faithful. Salvation. And Lord. To know your faithful. Heart. Your kindness. Your love. Your mercies. And you every morning. Lord help us to be.

[30:18] Mindful of that. And thankful. Every new day. Lord we pray for each believer. That we might. Each one know. The faithfulness. That the victory. That is ours. That even in that time.
