Types and shadows are symbolic pictures and signs. They can be people, ceremonies, acts and events, objects, offices. A type is a "prophetic symbol". It is a "model" or "pattern" or "mould" into which clay or wax was pressed, and takes the figure or exact shape of the mould. It is a likeness.

Luke 24:27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

The whole sacrificial system is a type - Hebrews 9:19-26 - the sacrifices typify Christ’s final sacrifice for the sins of the world. The Passover: 1 Corinthians 5:7, “Christ our passover is sacrificed for us.”

There are some persons or events specifically designated as types (innate types):
Melchizedek, Aaron, Adam, the Passover, the Tabernacle and its veil, and the Sabbath.

The Seven Feasts have typological meaning:
Passover – Redemption by Christ's blood
Unleavened Bread - Our Lord's sinless life
First Fruits - Christ's resurrection
Pentecost - Holy Spirit's coming and birth of the church
Trumpets - God calls his people to gather
Day of Atonement - The shed blood; Christ’s Sacrifice
Tabernacles - God’s provision, protection and presence as he tabernacles (dwells) with us; Emmanuel, God is “with us”.

Various places have typological meaning:
Egypt represents the world/a state of bondage
Jerusalem typifies the church and finally Heaven
Babylon held God’s people captive; pictures the apostate church
Cities of Refuge where the guilty party could flee for shelter; represent Christ, our refuge.

There's various Types and Shadows - many point to Christ.
AARON - who also represents the Priesthood of believers.
ABEL - the first one to suffer for righteousness sake. Abel’s blood cried out for vengeance while Christ’s blood cries out for mercy.
ABEL’S OFFERING - first animal sacrifice in worship.
ADAM - the only person who is expressly identified as a type of Christ.
ABRAHAM - Christ is the seed of Abraham; Gentiles are included in the great plan of salvation.
ARK - provides a place of refuge from God's judgment; God now saves all who are in Christ.
BOAZ was from Bethlehem, a kinsman-redeemer; helped the destitute and helpless. He was a kind, godly man; a man of grace and honour, an abundant provider. He purchased Ruth.
BRAZEN SERPENT lifted up on a pole - brought physical healing. The lifted-up Christ gives spiritual healing.
DAVID - Christ is the prophesied Son of David.
GARMENTS OF SKIN - The coats of skin that God gave Adam and Eve represented the covering of man's sin and shame. Salvation is the gift of God.
HIGH PRIEST - Jesus is now our high priest who mediates between God and men.
ISAAC was offered up as a sacrifice to God (Genesis 22). Isaac carried the wood for the sacrifice, and was bound and laid upon the wood, but was substituted by a lamb which God provided; pictures substitutionary atonement.
ISRAEL - Matthew 2:14-15 quotes Hosea 11:1, “I called my Son out of Egypt.” Israel pictured the coming Messiah.
JACOB'S LADDER - represents how Christ provides both communication from the Father and access to heaven (John 14:6).
JONAH pictures Christ being in the earth for three days and nights and then His resurrection.
JOSEPH - his robe was dipped in blood. He was taken captive, sold for silver. Gracious. Suffered unjustly and then was exalted to save his brethren.
JOSHUA led God’s people into the Promised Land. Joshua was a saviour of the covenant people.
MANNA - pictures the true spiritual bread from heaven.
MELCHIZEDEK - foreshadows Christ, who is a high priest forever. He is king of righteousness, king of peace. Jesus is our righteousness (1 Corinthians 1:30), and the prince of peace (Isaiah 9:6).
MOSES - was a deliverer, prophet, advocate/intercessor, and lawgiver. He pointed out that a greater Prophet will arise and the people were responsible to listen to Him. Christ is now the greater Deliverer from this present evil world, from the devil and from our sin.
PASSOVER LAMB - Christ was slain to deliver us from God’s judgment. He was crucified at the time the Passover lambs were slain at the Temple.
RED HEIFER - was without spot and blemish.
ROCK OF HOREB - pictures the life-sustaining water – the living water – who is our Lord.
SABBATH DAY - in Christ is spiritual rest – salvation - for the believer; Hebrews 4:9.
SAMSON - by his sacrificial death the Lord Jesus destroyed the enemies of God and His church.
SCAPE GOAT - lifts up and carries our sins away - never to return again.
SEED OF THE WOMAN - speaks of the virgin birth and the promise of salvation.
SOLOMON - Son of David; Jesus is “the wisdom of God.”
TEMPLE - represented God’s dwelling with his people. Our Lord said, “destroy this temple (referring to himself), and I will raise it in three days” (pointing to his resurrection).
TREE OF LIFE - seen in Genesis 2:9 and Revelation 22:2.

[0:00] yeah welcome again tonight we're on typology and this is the second part last time we looked at the tabernacle particularly so we won't be covering really so much the tabernacle but all other kinds of different types Bible types so that's what we're intending to cover the next hour or so so again just to introduce the topic biblical typology is the study of types and here's a quote the Bible student should be careful to distinguish between the possible the probable and the certain so some types are certain they're explicit they are innate they're very clearly spelled out some are more probable and some are possible so there's a degree of interpretation I know one of the questions after the last session was about the colors and how precise that all is some of it is possibly more as you could understand the colors to mean they may not be explicitly explained to be a type so there is a degree of that and like the second section says there we should be careful about identifying types unless the scripture explicitly identifies them because it could lead to complete allegorization of scripture so in other words you just spiritualize and and illustrate everything's an illustration of something and you can go into some extremes so we want to avoid that extreme too it talks about types and shadows as kind of symbolic pictures that are used to represent something else so these can be things like people ceremonies acts and events objects and offices so a type is a prophetic symbols it prefigures something that's yet future it tells us about something that is going to yet happen and the Greek word the word tupos is the word what we get type from and it's elsewhere translated in the King James print so the print in his hands Thomas said show me the print in your hands it's also translated as figure as fashion as manner as form as example so there's all kinds of ways it's put when you think of the word type like typewriter it makes an impression on the strip of ink strip of ink and makes an indentation on the paper it's a type it's it makes an impression it's a model or a pattern or a mold so when they would press clay into a shape that was the meaning of it it takes the figure or the shape of the mold so basically it means a likeness likeness so as we could explore some of these things tonight really we're only going to scratch the surface this is really very much an overview you can get really deep into some of this stuff and and go into a very detailed analysis of all of these things that we're really just only going to touch on really tonight in Luke 24 27 the Lord's talking on the road to Emmaus and with a couple of his disciples and it says and beginning at Moses and all the prophets he expounded unto them in all the scriptures in all the scriptures the things concerning himself so the Lord Jesus the resurrected Christ spoke to his disciples and he explained how in all the scriptures there's representations of himself and of course we know there's many prophecies our Lord fulfilled around 350 prophecies in his first coming there's still yet future prophecies to be fulfilled and shadows and types of Christ are somewhat prophetic too in that some things are still being revealed and it's another way that he reveals himself so there's prophecy and then there's these types you could see that the whole sacrificial

[4:04] sister of the Old Testament points to the coming Savior that he would be the one who would lay down his life for us so in Hebrews 9 you see the different sacrifices as we talked about last week of the different was it five different kinds of sacrifices the Levitical sacrifices and really all the Old Testament sacrifices that typify Christ's final sacrifice for the world that he was sacrificed once for all the Passover in a lot of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those of those people or events that the new testament specifically designates as types so they're specified they're innate types although obviously there are many other passages that could lend themselves to interpretation as types so they're more inferred such as the bronze serpent and the manna from heaven so we see things that are specifically told to us as types are listed here in this next slide we could call them innate types or you know specified specifically described as being types so melchizedek we see there's a priest called melchizedek he's a bit of a shadowy mystery kind of figure but he's got this everlasting priesthood and we could reckon it could have been a christophany which is another word for an appearance of christ prior to his coming in the flesh as the man christ jesus that melchizedek could be really christ as a an appearance of him but as a type it speaks of christ's perpetual priesthood that he's got an everlasting priesthood we see aaron another priest speaking of christ's priesthood we see adam and some of these we're going to unpack in a bit more detail so adam is talked about as being a type of christ a picture of him passover again the tabernacle veil like we talked about last time and the tabernacle itself as representing the believers access to god and the basis of fellowship and then the sabbath as we know it's a day but it's also representing the believers rest it speaks of rest and of course christ is our rest as our salvation is a rest from our works so these are what they call innate types so specified types and then we see that even the feasts themselves had a typological meaning the seven feasts that the lord decreed seven bible feasts again passover speaks of redemption that christ shed blood brings redemption for us the next one unleavened bread the feast of unleavened bread the bread didn't have leaven leaven speaks of sin and so the unleavened bread speaks of christ as being the sinless one his sinless life the only perfect sacrifice for our sins he had to be that perfect one without sin the feast of the first fruits in 1 corinthians 15 15 it talks about christ being the first fruits that rose from the dead speaks of resurrection pentecost tells of the holy spirit's coming and the birth of the church the trumpets where god commands his people to gather we could reflect that that's the rapture the coming of christ the trumpets the day of atonement speaks of christ's shed blood his sacrifice and then the feast of tabernacles so they've all got a meaning the feast of tabernacles we touched on it last week as christ

[8:09] is tabernacled with us it also tells of god's provision and protection in the 40 years that the people of god were in the wilderness and they have these temporary structures to re-commemorate what they did in the wilderness and and it reflects how the lord jesus is emmanuel god with us he put on that temporary tabernacle of his body to dwell on earth and then offer himself as a sacrifice and the feast of tabernacles speaks of that coming resurrection day which will conclude time as we know it well we'll put on put off this temporary tabernacle and have a new body and a resurrected body so we see the feast there another aspect of types is places as well so through the word of god it's another kind of code that we can use egypt kind of speaks of the world it speaks of the sinner prior to conversion in the state of bondage as the children of israel in egypt in the enslavement of the slave masters of egypt so too before we know christ we're in egypt in a sense that we're under the slave master of sin of the devil jerusalem is a picture of the church and of heaven and babylon is a picture of god's people held captive they had captivity in babylon and it could reflect apostasy as it talks about in the end times of babylon it's being the apostate church and the falling away and then another place places are the cities of refuge so the guilty ones could flee to these cities where they could find safe shelter and it represents christ for us our refuge so again we're going to touch on some of these in the next section here we've got a whole list of different types types of christ largely alphabetical and we can just take a walk through those and again gives us that kind of code that these various types speak to us of christ it speaks to us of him in the in our other people or events or activities it speaks of christ this tells us of him the priest that we're going to be the priest and we're going to be the priest to minister and then we see the fulfillment of that in that christ himself has entered into the holy place as this figure this type of the true and christ has appeared in heaven for us in the very presence of god aaron represents also the priesthood of all believers because we know that aaron he could only go in once as the high priest he can only go once per year into the holy place but now for us we can go in at any time we can enter in boldly we can enter with boldness into his very presence so that truth of the priesthood of all believers that it's not just aaron now it's every believer can enter in into the very presence of god so we're going through a bit of a list here the next one is abel abel is again as some would see him as a picture of christ that he was the first one to suffer for righteousness sake and we know when cain killed abel it says abel's blood cried out for vengeance well we see christ's blood cries out for mercy so as we see there in hebrews 12 that christ's blood it

[12:12] speaks better things than that of abel the blood of christ speaks for us as crying out for god to be merciful to us so abel is that picture there that he was really the one who was righteous and suffered and we can see christ in that and in abel's offering we see that the first animal sacrifice in worship was there in genesis 4 verse 4 says that abel brought the first links of his flock so he had this firstborn of the flock and he shared the blood of that that offering and god accepted abel's offering and we think what that pictures for us is christ is the one is the offering that god accepts for us his blood shed for our sins and so in genesis 4 verse 4 it's really that first picture of the lamb and it goes right through the whole word of god as we know that ultimately john the baptist saw christ and said behold the lamb of god which taketh away the sin of the world and so the lamb of god is that fulfillment there of abel's offering as well the next character is adam we probably should have started with adam because he's the first one really but adam is the only person expressly identified as a type of christ so it does specifically tell us that he is a direct type a definite type and when we think of adam his single action of sin the fall of adam the fall of man it's got a universal impact that one act of adam had a universal impact on on all of us including everyone here tonight and it prefigured the universal impact that christ would have as the second adam of course adam's act had a negative effect his sin but christ as the second adam has a a universal impact as well because there's forgiveness there adam's act had a negative impact but christ act brings salvation so the single act of adam of sin brought condemnation and death to all and christ's single act of righteousness in dying on the cross for our sin it brings eternal blessing it's got a universal impact for those that will trust him and it says that we can die in adam or we can be made alive in christ so he brought grace and eternal life to us our savior so it says as we read there in 1 corinthians 15 45 the first man adam was made a living soul the last adam was made a quickening spirit so we know god breathed life into adam's nostrils made him a living soul the last adam himself is that quickening spirit that life-giving spirit so next one we go to abraham abraham is another type that we could understand to be a type of the word of the word of the word of the word of the word of the word of the word of the word of the word that he would be the father of many nations and then in galatians it tells how his seed to abraham and his seed were the promises made he saith not and to seeds as of many but as of one and to thy seed which is christ so christ is the seed of abraham he's the one who is that fulfillment of the promise to abraham and through christ we see salvation has come and that the gentiles are included in god's plan of salvation abraham was told he would be the father of many nations and and we are

[16:19] children of god by faith aren't we we're we're children of abraham we're sons of abraham by faith another truth is the ark itself is a type as we saw the world was under the wrath of god the judgment of god and noah's family entered into the ark for safety and security salvation from the judgment of god and it's the truth today that god still saves all those who are in christ but those outside of christ will be subject to god's judgment and so we see that there genesis 7 verse 16 that the lord shut him in god shut the door and noah and his family and the livestock were saved they were safe held safe in the ark and for us today christ is the ark it's a picture of christ being the ark if we're in christ as noah was in the ark if we are in christ we're safe and we're in place of security there's security in christ but those who are outside of christ are not safe they're subject to god's judgment and we see that there in john 10 it talks about really the security that we have as god's people he the lord tells us that he gives unto us eternal life and that we shall never perish neither shall any man pluck you out of his hand so if you're in christ you're held by his hand and you're safe in his hand and also the father's hand so there's another picture of the ark and how it is fulfilled in christ the day of atonement there were various sacrifices made the the picture of the eternal redemption to come so in hebrews 9 it tells us that neither by the blood of goats and of calves but of by his own blood he entered into the holy place having obtained eternal redemption for us so it wasn't by the blood of goats and of calves but by his own blood and so all of those old testament sacrifices the day of atonement all the different sacrifices it could only be a picture of the christ to come he would be that absolute fulfillment of that another character in the bible is boaz now boaz he's not specified as a type but many people can see some comparisons some parallels it tells of him that he was a mighty man he was from the tribe of judah and boaz was from bethlehem and boaz played this role as a kinsman redeemer so he helped the destitute and the helpless in the case of ruth and naomi he was a kind godly man a man of grace and honor and he was an abundant provider he went outside the requirements of the law he gave more than what the law required and he paid the price for ruth so you can see lots of pictures there you could draw some analogies there about christ being mighty obviously from bethlehem from judah his grace and his generosity and that he would bring redemption and provide lots of parallels there so again we i'm just putting that cautionary note it's not said that he's a type but we could see analogies we could draw parallels there and i don't think it's stretching it to do that next one is the brazen serpent now this is talked about by our lord himself as it reads there in john 3 14 as we touched on last week i think that as moses lifted up that serpent in the wilderness this brazen serpent on this pole even so must the son of man be lifted up so you see that there even as moses so must you see as moses the type lifting up the servant so the son of man must be lifted up they're

[20:26] kind of one explains that the other that one foretells the the other the the reality the picture foretells the fulfillment that is christ lifted up on the cross in numbers 21 tells of this time where there was this need for healing there was this these poisonous snakes and the lifted up serpent brought physical healing and so too for us today christ is the fulfillment that christ lifted up brings spiritual healing and it's interesting that the lord used this picture of a serpent so something that would represent sin was lifted up it symbolized christ as the one who became a curse for us so he became this cursed thing that this serpent and he's as he hanged on the hanged on the tree he was fulfilling that scripture that tells us cursed is every one that hangs on a tree he took the very curse of our sin so the snake was cursed as we know as the serpent is cursed in genesis representing satan christ became that curse for us and we can know his saving as pictured here in that very picture of the brazen serpent next one is canaan the bible talks about canaan this place called canaan the land of canaan and we could reflect that it speaks to us of heaven of god's blessings of our spiritual riches it was the promised land and it was described in these terms here of of these blessings of um brooks of water of fountains of of of valleys and hills of vines and fig trees and pomegranates a land of olive and honey and we can think of that as heaven really that's pictures for us heaven that we enter in spiritually into that canaan land as we touched on before the cities of refuge these were designated cities six cities that were called cities for refuge and when someone accidentally killed someone they could run there and find safety they could flee there and they were kept safe and it pictures for us that christ is our refuge we can lay hold on him and we can flee to him for refuge the bible talks a lot about david king david as another example and the word of god tells us that christ is the prophesied son of david who will one day rule on his father's throne over israel and the world there's many pictures there talk about david and christ himself is talked about there in ezekiel 37 where it says david my servant shall be king over them and they shall all have one shepherd they shall also walk in my judgments and observe my statutes and do them so david is going to be that one as as it's prophesied of him that um that he would be that that christ is the son of david the bible talks about garments of skin these coats of skin when adam and eve fell into sin and they were ashamed god clothed them says there in genesis 3 21 that the lord god made coats of skins and clothed them so their shame their their nakedness was really a picture of man's sin and shame and you can't have

[24:32] garments of skin without shed blood so there had to be an animal had to die to provide those those coats of skin so again you see that picture that obviously they had to be sacrificed for them to be covered from their sin from their shame from their guilt and it's a picture of christ covering us isn't it that it was god who made the garments god gave them they didn't make the coats themselves so some would think of their own works that they can manufacture their own works you know fig fig leaves it's not going to do it but god made coats for them and so an animal had to die and we think of that for a picture of salvation in christ that it's by grace you say through faith that not of yourselves it is the gift of god not of works though standing man should boast so a lot of pictures there about the fact that it's christ shed blood that must answer for our sin it's he must cover us we can't we can't manufacture a covering over our sin it has to be god given in christ it was next one is the high priest jesus is now our high priest again talking to aaron that he had to make this atonement once in the year shall he make atonement but now we know that christ has once for all made atonement and now there is one mediator between god and man the man christ jesus we don't go through some man who has to make a sacrifice for himself aaron had to make a sacrifice for his own sin of course our high priest didn't have to do that he's the perfect one next character there is isaac of isaac we know that he was declared the only begotten son of abraham and isaac was offered up as a sacrifice to god it's interesting that isaac when he went up to the mountain with abraham his father isaac carried the wood think of that christ carried the word didn't he carried the cross and uh he was then laid upon the wood as christ was laid upon the word but isaac was substituted by a lamb which god provided for abraham so isaac's likened to christ in that he was kind of a miracle baby because they were how old was um abraham and sarah they were 99 or something they were very old uh really beyond childbearing age so isaac was a an amazing miracle really that he was born and so there's lots of parallels there with christ being of course christ didn't have a an earthly father but again he was that beloved son and so there as our lord god talked to abraham in genesis 22 2 take now thy son thine only son isaac whom thou lovest and get thee into the land of moriah and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which i will tell thee of and then we see that the account there in hebrews by faith abraham when he was tried offered up isaac so um he offered up his only begotten son a lot of parallels there with christ because he didn't actually offer him up because then god provided a substitute which is this next one here isaac substitute and i love that there in genesis 22 verse 8 it says my son this is what abraham tells isaac as isaac questions him well here's the word here's the fire where's the sacrifice abraham says genesis 22 verse 8 my son god will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering and then it

[28:33] says there in genesis 2 22 13 abraham lifted up his eyes and looked and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns and abraham went and took the ram and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son it's interesting mount moriah is really the same vicinity of mount calvary so where this happened was really right in the very setting where christ would be offered on the hill of calvary on golgotha's hill so mount moriah is in that same location if not the same mountain certainly the same mountain range and so god will provide himself a lamb and it speaks to us as it tells us there in 1 peter 2 24 of christ to his own self bear our sins in his own body on the tree he was our substitute he was the fulfillment that christ was the fulfillment the substitute that we had to have otherwise we would really suffer judgment and condemnation and death's penalty the wages of sinners death but thank god like as god provided a substitute for isaac he provides christ as a substitute in our place for our sin next one is israel is israel is likened to christ it says of israel hosea 11 that he's called my son out of egypt talking about israel of course the exodus that came out of egypt and then it's related to christ in matthew 2 where it tells of how they had to flee the the young family of the lord it says that they departed into egypt and it says it was a fulfillment of that same scripture out of egypt have i called my son so christ is again there's a shadow there that israel was a shadow picturing the coming messiah another picture is jacob's ladder jacob had this dream where he saw this ladder with angels descending and ascending on it it tells us there genesis 28 12 and he dreamt and behold a ladder set up on the earth and the top of it reached to heaven and behold the angels of god ascending and descending on it so jacob saw this vision this sight of this ladder of these angels coming up and down and we see our lord talks about something like that in john 1 51 verily verily i say unto you hereafter you shall see heaven open and the angels of god ascending and descending upon the son of man so jacob's ladder speaks of this connection between heaven and earth this communication this access to heaven and of course who is the way to heaven the access to heaven it's christ isn't it jonah jonah jonah's talked about as having the three days and nights and then a virtual resurrection there he was in the valley of the great fish and then we read there jonah 1 verse 17 that god prepared that great fish to swallow up jonah and he was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights and then it's related in matthew 12 our lord says for us jonah was three days and three nights in the whale's belly so shall the son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth so our lord compares that picture of of

[32:34] jonah in the whale for three days and nights to how he would be three days and nights and then resurrected race from the dead another picture of christ joseph now there's a lot of conjecture about joseph he's not stated to be a type again but there's a lot of parallels there's some someone's counts some 96 different parallels between the life of joseph and of christ so it's not probably stretching it to see that it could be more than a coincidence so he was a shepherd a beloved son nothing bad was recorded of him so there's only a handful of people that that you know the bible tells us warts and all about their faults and failings but there's nothing wrong said about joseph i like to daniel nothing was bad recorded of him and it tells of joseph his robe was dipped in blood he was taken captive he was sold for silver he was very gracious and forgiving and he suffered unjustly and then he he was exalted to save his brethren so god used joseph's life to bring great blessing and we can see lots of parallels there joshua it's the next one i know we're rushing through some somewhat here you can do some more homework there's lots more you could read about these types and shadows joshua was one who would lead the chosen people into the promised land and he was a savior of the covenant people he was moses successor moses was a symbol of the law he was the one the lord gave the law to and he gave the lord to the people the bringer of the law but he didn't enter the promised land a symbol of heaven as we talked about before canaan's land but it was joshua acting like this savior figure who brought them into the land so and of course the word joshua jesus and in the in those languages of the day it's virtually the same name joshua jesus a picture of christ we can enter into the promised land with jesus manna is a picture of that spiritual blood bread back in the old testament days there was this temporary provision of this manner a special bread from heaven and the lord pictures that as representing himself so we see in exodus 16 how it tells how the lord would provide this bread from heaven and in john 6 the lord jesus says moses gave you not that bread from heaven but my father giveth you the true bread from heaven and he goes on to say i am the bread of life think about christ he's our supply isn't he he sustains us he gives us spiritual life he is the bread of life and he says he that cometh to me shall never hunger he that believeth on me shall never thirst he's the one he's he's the complete fulfillment of that manner that was a picture of him yet to come melchizedek we talked about him before foreshadowing that high priest who is forever our lord himself and melchizedek and christ are the only two who've occupied the two offices of priest and king at the same time so normally a king and a priest would not be the same person but in melchizedek's case he was and his name means king of righteousness he was king of peace we see that there that christ of course he's that one the prince of peace he's our righteousness a lot of parallels there and as i said before it could be that he was an actual christophany like he was an actual pre-incarnation appearance of christ in a picture like as we read elsewhere like the angel of the lord on some occasions it could have

[36:40] been christ who was actually coming before he came in the flesh next one is moses it tells of moses that he was faithful it says the lord thy god will raise up unto thee a prophet from the midst of thee of thy brethren like unto me unto him you shall hearken so moses told how there would be a prophet like unto himself we think about moses he was a great character of the old covenant he was a deliverer a prophet he was an advocate he interceded he was an intercessor and he was a lawgiver moses was rejected by israel and he pointed to the one who would come who people would listen to you shall hearken to him of course christ is now the greater deliverer he delivers us moses helped deliver the children of israel from egypt christ delivers us from egypt speaking of the world of of the devil's domain christ is the one the true deliverer from the devil and our sin and from this present evil world next one we have talked about it touching on it before the passover lamb christ our passover is slain for us to deliver us from god's judgment the red heifer is another sacrifice there's a lot of talk about the red heifer these days there's apparently some moves as they're there's talk of rebuilding the temple that there's some folk that have got some red heifers that they're getting ready to slay of course it had to be a particular red heifer it had to be this perfect specimen this perfect red heifer without spot no blemish you know they couldn't have even just a a little white hair in their ear it had to be everything had to be without any blemish or any anything that was a defect or could be thought of as a defect but of course it's all really a picture of christ as the one who had come it tells us there in hebrews 9 13 of the ashes of an heifer how much more shall the blood of christ purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living god how much more christ is the one it's all the animal sacrifices could only be a picture of him to come next one is the rock the rock of horrib when the israelites were in the wilderness and they were getting thirsty moses struck the rock horrib the rock of horrib and provided water and it pictures for us the life-giving water who is christ himself he's the living water isn't he and he's the one that we can know he's the fulfillment of it so as they struck the rock they came forth this water and in 1 corinthians 10 paul relates how christ is the one who is the same he he gives us the same spiritual drink they drank of the spiritual rock and that rock was christ so christ is the fulfillment again we mentioned it before the sabbath you know some make a much make much of the sabbath but they're missing the point of it which is really that it's a ceasing from our own work it tells us there about the sabbath hebrews 4 verses 9 through 11 there remaineth therefore a rest to the people of god for he that is entered into his rest he also hath ceased from his own works as god did from his like on the seventh day he rested let us therefore labor to enter into that rest it's talking about the rest that we have in christ he says come unto me all you that labor and are heavy laden and i will give you rest rest for your souls so

[40:43] the true sabbath rest the true spiritual rest is is to know salvation in christ that's the point of it is salvation for the believer another bible character is samson of course we know he ended his life as he pulled that temple of dagon down around himself and some reflect how it's alike to how christ by his death destroyed the enemies of god again you could say was that maybe stretching it there's a parallel there whether we could take that too far or not we don't we've got to be wise and careful but some have reflected that it is a light to a picture of christ and what christ did by his death as he um as by his death he destroyed the enemy of of our soul isn't he the greatest enemy is death and christ destroyed that for us at his death the bible talks about the scapegoat as another kind of sacrifice and this was a goat that they would confess the sins over and then send out into the wilderness and it's a picture again of how christ carries our sin and it takes them away never to return again so when we saved our sin is taken and it's gone forever as the scapegoat went out into the wilderness it would never return and the sins that were confessed in upon the the scapegoat were taken in in that picture form pictures how christ takes our sin away another one is the seed of the woman it tells us how in genesis 3 verse 15 the prophecy is given that god will put enmity or hatred between thee and the woman addressing the serpent between thy seed and her seed it shall bruise thy head and thou shalt bruise his heel so it it's a prophecy there telling the serpent satan that the seed of the woman would vanquish him and the seed of the woman is christ doesn't it speaks of the virgin birth christ was the seed of the woman he he he wasn't a seed of a man it was only because he was virgin born so christ was the seed of the woman and the promise of salvation it's interesting that the promise of salvation right here in genesis 3 15 it's given before anyone died physically so even before abel was killed even before sin was fully manifested that the prophecy was given that christ would come the seed of the woman another character is solomon it tells of him in 2 samuel 7 god will establish his kingdom he shall build a house for my name and i will establish the throne of his kingdom forever so solomon being david's son it tells of him that he built that that temple as the physical dwelling place of god and christ is building that temple the spiritual dwelling that is in us because our body is the temple of the holy spirit so solomon pictures that line of david the son of david he was the son of david again it speaks of christ and it was told of solomon that he was the wisest man in the world and jesus is the wisdom of god we see that's one of the descriptions of christ that he is the wisdom of god we won't dwell much on the tabernacle because we touched on that last time it's just a picture that god indwells every believer and the temple really is the the next stage where much of the parallel of the tabernacle we see in the temple and in one kings it tells us that solomon began

[44:51] to build the house of the lord john 2 our lord tells us that the that his body is likened to the temple he says destroy this temple and in three days i will raise it up and and the jews protested about that but he spoke of the temple of his body our lord was talking about his own body as being the temple that would be raised up three days later speaking of his resurrection and just the next one there the next picture is the tree of life so right at the start in genesis we know that the lord gave this tree of life that was in the midst of the garden and then at the back of the book in revelation 22 it tells us of heaven and of the tree of life again that we will have access to the tree of life again so god wants us to receive him and his life and the tree of life it tells of really that blessed communion with god like in in the garden of eden they had close fellowship and communion with god they could walk with him and commune with him but when sin came that was all taken away and they were barred entry to the garden and they were barred the way to the tree of life it was shut off to them but in christ trusting him as we get saved as we know him we know that one day when we'll see him when we get to glory that we'll have access to the tree of life it tells us there of heaven as it tells us of revelation 22 of the new jerusalem in the midst of the street of it and on either side of the river was there the tree of life and it tells of the fruit there and of the leaves for the healing of the nations so the way was once blocked to the tree of life because of sin man's fall but now in christ he offers that way open to us to have eternal life and communion with god and we will have access to the tree of life again so just to wrap up i know we've really run through this in a bit of a quick pace and there's so much more we could explore for all of those different types and shadows we've looked at as i say some of them are more there's a degree of conjecture there's a degree of surmising that that might reflect that some are more specific that it's specified and told us so so some types are clearly so others we can interpret so we've seen the feasts the various feasts of the bible we've seen lots of places and all of those people that we looked at the different bible characters and events and objects the point is the point in all of them is it points to christ they they're right through the bible like we started off by saying as the lord said beginning at moses and all the prophets he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself so it's like and and some have reflected that there's jesus in every book of the bible there's some good information you can gather where people have gone through each book and they can see christ in there in different forms and different pictures of him the various objects and characters and events of the bible it points to christ points to his salvation to salvation truth you
