How sensitive are we to God? Do we have godly desires? David was commended as as being a man after God’s own heart. David cries: I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.
Think of the heart of God: the compassion of Jesus… he beheld the city, and wept over it. When he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them. Do we care about never-dying souls?
Will we be such a people that gladden the heart of God? Hebrews 3:12-13 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief... Sin has a hardening effect on the heart and the conscience. Our heart can get hardened.
I would urge you: Don’t follow your heart! Follow His heart! Are we sensitive to the Holy Spirit? Do we care to please God? Have we lost that sense of the will of God? How can we regain a sensitivity to God’s leading? 1 Corinthians 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
Where is the sense of holy resolve, of denying ourselves? Luke 9:23 ...If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
Humanly we have an inclination to choose comfort - and not a cross. An inclination for recreation and self will, rather than a resolve to do our duty, to labour. An inclination to ease, rather than work. An inclination to selfishness, rather than selflessness. An inclination in churches, to steer towards entertainment and stage managing, rather than what is holy and sanctified, and true worship. An inclination not to prioritise the place of service, not to place a priority on the soul, on faithfulness, on fellowship. An inclination to sleep - and not to labour, or to pray. And inclination to choose the path of ease, rather than the path of conviction. We have to take up our cross.
We have a need of a renewed sense of obedience to the will of God. As Saul: Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? Can we endeavour for a renewed sense of what would be pleasing unto our Master?
Will we make decisions based on: How can we be more useful to our Lord? ...a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.
We need a sensitivity towards God - it's crucial for a thriving spiritual life. Have we a heart to respond, as Isaiah: Here am I; send me. As Samuel: Speak; for thy servant heareth. As Mary, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word.
Elijah recognised and responded to God’s still, small voice. God can speak in stillness and quiet. We can know a sensitivity towards God, as we seek Him. Even in the every day moments of our life.
Ananias and Sapphira were insensitive to the Holy Spirit… God calls us to live our lives with integrity and truth. Samson was given great strength by God. Yet he was insensitive to God’s calling. Samson lost his vision when he started losing sensitivity towards God. It’s the same for us, if we are insensitive to God’s purpose, it can bring failure and loss. Rather, may we depend on our Lord, and be sensitive to His guidance.
Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he refused to listen. A hardened heart leads to judgment.
I would urge you - to a sensitivity towards God. Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
Seek to discern God’s voice amidst the noise of daily life. Reduce the static. Nurture a receptivity to the Lord. Surround yourself with others who are spiritually mature. Be open to God’s correction, whether through Scripture, the Holy Spirit, or other believers.
Keep your spirit attune to God’s voice and foster a deeper connection with Him. Strive to be sensitive to God's leading. Let His Spirit guide. Be consistent in worship. Worship helps align our hearts with God’s heart.
We can become more receptive to our Lord and His will and leading. Go to the Word of God - meditate on Scripture. Allow the Word to dwell richly in you, shaping your attitudes, and actions. Psalms 1:2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. There’s a blessedness there.
Be tender hearted towards His leadings. Wait on the Lord. Be still. Be willing to follow the promptings of God’s Spirit, even if they lead you out of your comfort zone.
Sensitivity to God is an ongoing journey. It calls for intentional effort, and a heart inclined towards Him. Colossians 3:2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
Cultivate a sensitive spirit. Srive to be attentive and responsive to God's voice, with a humble heart.
Ask God for a renewed sense of eternity. Are we building sand castles on the beachside - or will we have treasures in heaven? We can discern His guidance and prioritise His will in our daily decisions.
Surrender your personal ambitions to God’s will. Be teachable, and receptive. Let go of personal agendas, and trust God’s plans.
[0:00] Be encouraged here tonight as we come together to the Word of God. And the first scripture we're going to turn to is Psalm 40.! Psalm 40. And it is somewhat of a topical message on the theme of the heart.
[0:16] When medically we go to a doctor, to a hospital, they look at the heart, they check the heart. And we think of our heart in a spiritual way tonight.
[0:26] And think of that heart check that would do us good. To look at our heart before God and our sensitivity to Him. And I want to urge you together tonight to refresh sensitivity towards God.
[0:44] I'm talking about our spiritual senses. And Psalm 40 is a psalm of David. Psalm 40 and verse 8, he sings out these words. Psalm 40, verse 8.
[0:55] I delight to do Thy will, O my God. Yea, Thy law is within my heart. I delight to do Thy will, O my God. Yea, Thy law is within my heart.
[1:09] Can I pose a question? How sensitive are we to God? Do we care about never-dying souls? Do we have godly desires?
[1:20] On Wednesday we looked at the study of man, anthropology, the doctrine of man, at the make-up of a man, including the heart and the conscience.
[1:30] And the five senses. We could think really tonight it's the sixth sense. It's that spiritual sense. We looked at the heart and the conscience and we saw how that God Himself has a heart.
[1:43] It tells us that in Genesis 6, verse 6. It tells us, And it repents of the Lord that He had made man on the earth, and it grieved Him at His heart.
[1:54] God's heart can be grieved at the actions of men. You see, of that time, we know the world was overtaken with evil, and the heart of God was grieved.
[2:07] Interesting how David was commended for having a heart after God's own heart. It tells us that in 1 Samuel. 1 Samuel 13, verse 14, in part it reads, The Lord hath sought Him a man after His own heart, and the Lord hath commanded Him to be captain over His people.
[2:28] In the selection of David, it was said of him, God was looking for a man after His own heart. And it reads in Acts 13, Likewise of God's choice, I have found David, the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfill all my will.
[2:48] A man after God's own heart. One who would fulfill the will of God. Think of the heart of God. God's heart was grieved. God's heart can be gladdened. We can see the workings of God's heart in the life of our Lord.
[3:02] What God's heart looks like, we see in Christ's heart. We see, the Word tells us, the compassion of Christ. Of His compassion that moved Him to action. Numbers of times it tells of His heart.
[3:15] It tells how He beheld the city. That city of Jerusalem that was to reject Him. He beheld the city and He wept over it. And then in Matthew 9, 36, there's another occasion.
[3:27] He saw the multitudes and He was moved with compassion on them. Because they fainted and were scattered abroad as sheep without a shepherd. Now the shepherd, the good shepherd looked out and He saw the multitudes.
[3:41] And His heart was moved. He was moved with compassion. We see the heart of Jesus. It was concerned about souls. And notice His heart was connected with His eyes.
[3:52] He wept. His heart was connected with His eyes. Do we know the heart of Jesus? Do we know His heart today? How is our sensitivity towards God, our Lord, and His heart towards souls?
[4:04] His heart for souls? Do we know that heart, that compassion that would move us so? And do we know this burden?
[4:15] This burden of the Lord? It tells us in Jeremiah 23, 33. The Bible tells about the burden of the Lord. That God's heart would be burdened.
[4:27] That He would have a burden. Is our heart like His? That we would have a care, a compassion? How is our sensitivity to what it is that would burden our Lord?
[4:38] What our God would care about? What it is that would offend our God? That should offend us too. God gets emotional. It tells us that God is angry with the wicked.
[4:51] There's an anger. There's an emotion of anger. Wouldn't it be good if we were such a people that we would gladden the heart of our God? Wouldn't that be a good thing? To gladden the heart of God.
[5:03] It tells how we can be pleasing unto God. That what pleases our God, that is what motivates us. That ought to be our wanting, isn't it?
[5:15] That what would please our God, we want to be motivated to do that. To be doing just that. Those things. And it tells us of that in 1 John 3, verse 22.
[5:26] It tells how whatsoever we ask, we receive of Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight. To think that we can do some actions, that we can take some actions, that those actions would be pleasing in His sight.
[5:42] They would gladden His heart. It's saying that our actions can be pleasing in His sight. It tells us that, likewise in this one, Hebrews 13, 16. But to do good and to communicate, forget not.
[5:53] For with such sacrifices, God is well pleased. So there's giving, the sacrifices. God's pleased with that. God sees that and He's pleased with that. It's a good thing.
[6:04] To do good. To sacrifice. To be giving people. And then we see another one, is Hebrews 13, 21. That the prayer effectively is, that the Lord would make you perfect in every good work, to do His will, working in you, that which is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever.
[6:26] Amen. Again, another picture of how what we can do can be well pleasing in His sight. It can gladden His heart. We can please the heart of God.
[6:38] By our actions. And it talks here about every good work, about doing His will. That's how we can please the heart of God. And so we're talking tonight about this concept of a sensitivity towards God.
[6:51] God's got a heart. That heart can be grieved. And that heart can be pleased. We can be well pleasing in His sight. How can we have that heart, that sensitivity to God's will, to what God wants, that our heart will be in the right place?
[7:07] It's good to consider about our conviction level, because that guides our actions, our convictions, doesn't it? How is our conscience? Again, we talked about the conscience somewhat on Wednesday night too, that the conscience can be a help for us, but it's not always an accurate guide too.
[7:24] We've all got a conscience. Some like to picture it as the angel on the shoulder, and then you've got the flesh as the devil on the other shoulder. But that sense of the conscience, that measuring of right and wrong, but the conscience of itself can not always be accurate, because our conscience can excuse some things.
[7:41] We'll do what's right in our own eyes, like the people of Israel did, that they did what was right in their own eyes. And so our conscience can sometimes be wrong, because we can allow and accept things that by God's standard and truth are not right.
[7:57] And that can be a problem, can't it? We don't always choose well, is the point. And we can have a conscience that's dullened as well. Our conscience can be lacking in God's terms.
[8:11] And how so? One area is persistent sin. We touched on this earlier today, but that sense where there can be an evil heart of unbelief. There's that sense where we can be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
[8:24] Friends, sin has a hardening effect. There's a hardening that can happen on our heart and our conscience that we can have a disbelieving. Our heart can be hardened.
[8:36] When sin is repeated and accommodated, we can find that our conscience gets desensitised. And our conscience can become less responsive to God's conviction.
[8:48] So we've always got to prayerfully seek that our conscience would be guided by God's truth. So we make right choices, not faulty ones. And to help us with that, we need the Word of God.
[9:00] A neglect of God's Word can damage our conscience. As we see in 1 Timothy 4, it tells how the Spirit speaketh expressly that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils, speaking lies and hypocrisy, having their conscience seared with a hot iron.
[9:19] It's talking about the conscience again, that the conscience can get seared and it's such that it won't work right. And we're living in a world where false teachings abound. There's a neglect of biblical truth.
[9:31] And so no wonder there's this seared conscience. Our conscience can be damaged. And people have lost that moral compass. They've lost that sense of the authority of the Word of God so that they just go along with whatever the latest fad is and fashion.
[9:47] And the moral compass has got damaged. That conscience has been seared with a hot iron. So then they fall prey to seducing spirits, doctrines of devils, follow the latest bandwagon and the latest teacher or teachings.
[10:02] And so with our conscience, we've always got to be mindful of that, that our conscience can be faulty. Our conscience elsewhere, it talks about a defilement of the conscience.
[10:15] And so tonight, as we think about, partially about the anthropology, the makeup of a man, body, soul, spirit, conscience, mind, as we touched on on Wednesday, there's a sense where our heart has got to be, we've got to keep a check on it.
[10:33] And I like to say, don't follow your heart. Don't follow your heart because your heart can be wrong. Because the Bible tells us the heart can be deceitful, desperately wicked. Who can know it?
[10:45] So don't follow your heart, follow his heart. Follow his heart. It's possible to have a defiled conscience. There's another scripture for that. There's this defilement of our conscience, of our values, of right and wrong.
[10:58] And no wonder consciences get defiled because we're constantly barraged with other truths, which are falsehoods, and other morals, which are immoral, and other things that the world accepts and applauds and celebrates and promotes and has pride marches down the street celebrating.
[11:17] And we know the Word of God says that is evil. And so that must be our guide for our conscience. And friends, we know that it's God who dictates what's right and wrong.
[11:29] And that's why we need to have this hiding of the Word in our heart. Talking about our heart, get the Word hidden in your heart. That's a good protective measure. Thy Word have I hid in mine heart that I might not sin against thee.
[11:42] My message tonight is how can we have that sensitivity that our heart will be attuned to God's heart? Are we sensitive to the Holy Spirit? To His Word? If we've hidden His Word in our heart, that's going to be a good help.
[11:57] As I touched on this morning, it's possible to lose sensitivity in the sense that it's like when someone gets frostbite, that if it gets bad enough, you're going to lose your fingers and toes, maybe whole limbs.
[12:11] When sensitivity, when we lose sensitivity, we know people that have got diabetes have got that risk to that too, that there's no sensitivity, so they can suffer.
[12:21] And a loss of sensitivity towards God is a very serious thing. We think of the heart of God tonight. We can lose that sensitivity to Him.
[12:33] We can get a lack of love. The heart of Jesus is full of love. It's easy to drift into complacency and that our heart can be far from God. There's many instances of that.
[12:44] Do we care to please God? Or is it just on the bottom of the list? Pleasing God is when we can fit it in. And we've lost that sense of the will of God, of the best that we can be for God.
[12:57] That ought to be right up here, not down here. It seems like at times we can care little for what is the best choice, the godly choice. How are we to invest our life, our time?
[13:11] We can care little for what is the best course of action, the best decision, that in the light of the command to glorify God in whatever that we do, that even in the routines of life, even in the humdrum, even in those moments that are everyday moments, that whatsoever you do, whatsoever you do, do all to the glory of God.
[13:33] Let's have that uppermost in our mind, that we care to please God. That's the best decision. That's the best measure of what is the right decision, is does it glorify God?
[13:46] Does it bring in glory? And it's easy, I put to you tonight, that it's easy to have an inclination to veer off track. I speak for myself, we don't humanly want to take the pathway of the cross.
[13:59] We don't humanly, we wouldn't humanly choose that. The inclination in all of us, well certainly in me, is to not take the pathway of the cross.
[14:10] And yet that's what our Lord says, isn't it? He says, if any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. It's an inclination in all of us that we need to fight that inclination to not go the way of the cross, but rather to have that holy resolve, to deny ourself, and take up his cross, take up our own cross.
[14:33] There's an inclination in us, I put to you tonight, there's an inclination in us for recreation and self-will, rather than a resolve to do our duty, rather than a resolve to do right.
[14:47] An inclination to ease, rather than to work. An inclination to selfishness, rather than to selflessness. There's an inclination in churches, to steer towards entertainment, and stage managing, rather than what is holy and sanctified, and true worship.
[15:04] An inclination not to prioritise the place of service, not to place a priority on the soul, the things of the soul, of faithfulness, of fellowship.
[15:15] An inclination to sleep, and not to labour, or to pray. Think of the garden. The spirit was willing, but the flesh was weak. There's an inclination to choose the path of ease, rather than the path of conviction.
[15:28] We have to take up the cross. It's God's heart that we take up the cross. It's time to consider these things, those spiritual priorities.
[15:40] And this was a pivotal question, that Saul put, who would later become Paul, on the Damascus road, it says, and he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what would thou have me to do?
[15:56] That's a really pivotal question, that we should still keep asking, of our Lord. Lord, what do you want me to do? What is your will? And how can we endeavour to please him, who is our master?
[16:09] What would please him? Rather than what our flesh wants, what would please him. Let that be the guide, to the decisions we make. How can I be more useful to my Lord?
[16:20] As it says in 2 Timothy 2.21, it says, if a man therefore purge himself, from these, like have that cleansing, that he then shall be a vessel fitted, a vessel unto honour, a vessel sanctified, separated, and fit, meet, for the master's use, prepared, unto every good work.
[16:37] Wouldn't it be great, if we had that heart, that we want to be a vessel, unto honour, that we want to be, a vessel, that God can use us, and fill us, for every good work.
[16:49] And Paul encourages, the believers here, to have a purging, like a cleansing, of that which is dishonourable, and to be fitted, fitted as this vessel, unto God's honour.
[17:01] Again, we looked at, Wednesday, the heart. And where is that ant? Have we got a heart, that would be like Isaiah's heart, when he hears the call, he hears the need, and he says, here am I, send me.
[17:14] Surely he did doubt, but he didn't let his doubt, stop him. We see that there, in Isaiah 6 verse 5. Isaiah was human, he says, woe is me, I'm undone, I'm a man of unclean lips, I live in the midst, of a people of unclean lips, for my eyes have seen the king, the lord of hosts.
[17:33] So Isaiah was very human, and he doubted, yet God used him. And it's the same, for all of us, isn't it? Isaiah had that sensitivity, he saw how unfit he was, he saw how unworthy he was, he had that sensitivity, that God was speaking, and calling him, and he was willing.
[17:53] He became willing. And it's the same, for every one of us, if we can just have that sensitivity, to what God is telling us, to discern his voice, his will, his leading, and build that relationship, with him.
[18:07] There's numbers of examples, we could cite in scripture, of men and women, who showed a sensitivity, towards God. They had a heart, that God touched.
[18:18] We see for example, young Samuel, as a young boy, he was serving in the temple, under Eli the priest, in 1 Samuel 3, and God called him, but first Samuel, did not recognize his voice, and God had to get his attention, by repeated calls here, until after Eli instructed him, Samuel responded, it says, as God called him, as at other times, Samuel, Samuel, then Samuel answered, speak, for thy servant hearer.
[18:49] Now sometimes, God's got to come a few times, to penetrate, doesn't he? Speak for thy servant hearer. And, like Samuel, let's be willing to, listen and respond, to God's voice.
[19:03] Have a heart, willing to obey. There's other examples, as pictured here, Mary, she was one, as the angel Gabriel came, announcing that she would bear, the son of God, despite the potential consequences, Mary humbly accepted, God's plan, saying, behold, the handmaid of the Lord, be it unto me, according to thy word.
[19:24] She had that faith, to trust God's will, to trust God's message, God's plan, even though it was challenging.
[19:35] See, Abraham, another example, God called him, to leave his country, to go to a land, where he would show him, and God tested Abraham, by the offering up, of Isaac, and Abraham obeyed God's call, without knowing the destination, and when asked to sacrifice Isaac, he went by faith, and God blessed, his faith.
[19:58] We look at Joseph, sold into slavery, by his brothers, yet he remained faithful, no matter what happened, he trusted God's plan, he was sensitive, to God's call, and he obeyed, and God blessed, and then we see, Daniel, another one, he continued to pray, despite the decree, that anyone, who prayed to any God, or human, other than King Darius, would be thrown, into the lion's den, Daniel's faith, did not waver, God protected him, he yielded to God, he was sensitive, to God's will, and call, and he obeyed, by faith, and then Paul, as well, when his companions, were travelling, to spread the gospel, in Acts 16, from verses 6 through 10, the Holy Spirit, prevented them, from going, to a certain location, and Paul was sensitive, to the Spirit's leading, and changed his travel plans, and then we saw, the vision, of the man, from Macedonia, he was sensitive, to the call of God, to the leading of God, to the halting of God, when he had a plan, that God wanted, him not to do, and then he was sensitive, when the man, from Macedonia, showed him, the call there, to the need there, and he was sensitive, to the Spirit's leading, and then we see Moses, another one, as at times, we know Moses, he met God, at the burning bush, and Moses, in his own human, inclination, he saw his own weakness, and he said,
[21:29] I'm not able, and God says, go, I will be with thy mouth, I will teach thee, what thou shalt say, and we can have, personal doubts, when we have, that sensitivity, to God's leading, and call, and we can think, ourselves unworthy, unfit, unable, yet God can help us, overcome, those doubts, and fears, Jeremiah was another, who got the call, and, humanly responded, our Lord God, behold I cannot speak, for I am a child, he got the call, and he doubted as well, friends, don't be, despairing, if God's moving you, in such a way, to a certain task, or mission, and, humanly, you feel, inadequate, that's normal, that's for all of us, and God will use you, notice we see, Elijah was one, he had the dramatic encounter, with the prophets of Baal, he encountered God, at Mount Horeb, God revealed himself, not in the wind, the earthquake, or the fire, but, in that still, quiet voice, didn't he, that gentle whisper, and it's again, that sensitivity, to God's voice, to God's call, and God can speak, and often in the stillness, and the quietness, isn't it, can we just exercise ourselves, to have that sensitivity, towards God, to seek him, another example,
[22:49] David, David sought opportunities, David had opportunities, to kill Saul, King Saul, but he did not, he respected God's anointed, later when confronted, by Nathan, about his sin, with Bathsheba, David repented, he showed that sensitivity, toward God, his heart was sensitive, to God's correction, and God's conviction, of sin, so, another example, of being sensitive, to the heart of God, to the direction of God, then on the other side, of the coin, we could think of, some biblical examples, of insensitivity, towards God, insensitivity, towards God, for example, King Saul, God instructed him, directly, to completely destroy, the Amalekites, and he disobeyed, he spared King Agag, and the best livestock, and his partial obedience, led to his rejection, as king, by God, there's consequences, to being insensitive, to God, to be, being insensitive, to God's direction, of course, we touched on this morning,
[23:52] Ananias and Sapphira, as well, that, they were insensitive, to the Holy Spirit, and there was judgment there, and lives must be lived, with integrity, and truth, we see Samson, given great strength, by God, yet he became insensitive, insensitive, to God's calling, there was a pridefulness, there, there was a downfall, of Samson, ultimately, he fulfilled his purpose, in his final act, and, we know that, they put out his eyes, but really, Samson lost his vision, when he started, to lose sensitivity, towards God, before his physical eyes, were gone, he lost his vision, and it's the same for us, we can be insensitive, to God's purpose, for us, and, it brings loss, and failure, how better, it would be, if we can, not, we can learn, from Samson's example, by not following it, Amen, another example, of insensitivity, towards God, is King Solomon, despite his wisdom, his renowned, wisdom, he married, numbers of foreign women, pagan women, who led him to worship, other gods,
[25:01] Solomon's life, it shows how, even the wisest, can fall, and become, insensitive, towards God, having such wisdom, and yet, such foolishness, then we see, Pharaoh, another example, of being insensitive, towards God, God, through Moses, repeatedly, commanded Pharaoh, to let the, people go, but Pharaoh's heart, was hardened, and he refused, to listen, it's like, some have got ears, but they cannot hear, they don't want to hear, they're not hearing, the many warnings, Pharaoh was that, that one, he's like, he was tone deaf, to the voice of God, to the repeated, direction of God, and a hardened heart, leads to judgment, doesn't it, another example, of insensitivity, is Jonah, of course, Jonah was instructed, to go to Nineveh, and where did he go, the opposite direction, and after being swallowed, by a great fish, and repenting, Jonah finally obeyed, but even then, he had a lack of compassion, he showed further, insensitivity, to God's will,
[26:05] God's will, it ended up, was to spare Nineveh, and Jonah didn't like that, he humanly, objected, and so we see, Jonah, running from God, it brings turmoil, doesn't it, and disaster, what can we learn, from all of this, we see the, the insensitivity, of some, we see the sensitivity, of others, we see the heart, it's a different picture, either a heart, that's switching off, ears that are closing, a hardening of the heart, on the insensitive side, or it can be, as King David, as he ultimately became, a man after God's heart, and we see, the applications, that we can make, as we think about, all of these things, today, I would urge you, to do a sensitivity, of your heart, towards God, like the psalmist, who cried out, search me oh God, and know my heart, if we can have that, willingness to, to bear our heart, before God, search me oh God, know my heart, let him open up, your heart, as it were spiritually, try me, test me, know my thoughts, and see if there be, any wicked way in me, and lead me, in the way, everlasting, can we cry out, like the psalmist here, to want God's word, to affect, what's God's will, to be, lived out, that we can, tune out, all of the noise, all of the static, all of the noise, of daily life, and wait upon him, to nurture this, receptivity to the Lord, to make that, your prayer, search me oh God, know my heart, to be open, to his correction, to, have his leading, through the scriptures, by his spirit, through the direction, and support, of other believers, that we can, that we can have, a heart that's attuned, to the voice of God, a deeper connection, to strive, to be sensitive, to God's leading, oh Lord, search me, know my heart, to let his spirit, guide, and lead, to lead me, in the way, lead me, in your way, lead me, in the way, everlasting, fasting, and here's the, prayerfulness, of this one, this prayerfulness, here, we can, even use fasting, to seek God's will, to seek God's guidance, to have that, sensitivity of our heart, a sensitivity, of our heart, to think, could it be, that we could be, tender hearted, tender hearted, not hard hearted, can it be, that we could see,
[28:32] God make my heart tender, make me kind hearted, make me tender hearted, make me soft hearted, towards you, to your will, and worship helps, as it's a psalm here, it's a song of praise, it's a worship, worship helps align our hearts, with our Lord, doesn't it, with God's heart, we can get more receptive, to his will, his leading, as we have that, prayerfulness, that praisefulness, that the Lord's compassion, could be outworked, in us too, such that it's not, just about me, it's not just about, us, it's about others, too, that our heart, will be like his heart, his heart was moved, with compassion, and so as we go, to the word of God, he'll motivate us, to live, as would please him, that we will be, well pleasing in his sight, that our hearts, our thoughts, our actions, would be, led by his spirit, that we can, again on this analogy, of body, soul, spirit, mind, that we can have, the mind of Christ, that we would be, so affected, that we would be, so sensitive, to him, that his mind, would be our mind, his thoughts, would be our thoughts, his heart, would be our heart, and, we'll let the word, dwell in us richly, that it will shape, our thoughts, our attitudes, our actions, and that he will, quicken his word, to us, such that, when we open, its pages, that he will, quicken it, quicken it, make it alive, in other words, such that, when we're reading the word, and meditating upon it, that, it'll jump out, it'll jump off the page, and into our heart, he'll quicken his word, to us, we see in Psalm 1 verse 2, it tells how, of the godly man, it tells us, but his delight, is in the law, of the Lord, and in his law, does he meditate, day and night, there's a blessedness there, he'll quicken his word, to us, and it'll work, its work, in our heart, by faith, and so, when we think, as we, would go to the ultimate, source, of what is the heart, of God, what is the will of God, it's right here, in these pages, isn't it, between the covers, of your Bible, and God can give us, impressions, as we're filled, with his word, the more that we're filled, with his word, those impressions, that we get, will be scriptural, impressions, they'll be spirit led, impressions, because as we're tender, hearted, as our heart, is filled with his word, will hide his word, in our heart, then those, impressions, that quickening, it will be the word, of God, it won't be, a faulty, impression, it's as we, wait on the Lord, as we be still, and know, as we spend time, with our Lord, away from distractions, this can help you, to hear God's still, small voice, it's in his word, it's not in our, own imaginations, it's in, his word, and will be filled, with that word, such that, the promptings, of his spirit, will be scriptural, and spiritual ones, even if they lead you, out of your comfort zone, and that can be, even more so, that the promptings, of God's spirit, will lead us out, of our comfort zone, as we see, the examples, of those that were called, and they objected, oh,
[31:53] Moses, Jeremiah, I'm too young, I'm not able, I will be with your mouth, he says, so, as we think of, all of these things, hopefully there's been some, little nuggets, of something, yeah, that speaks to me, that sensitivity, that I need, that tender hearted, that tender heartedness, that I need, that tender heartedness, towards him, that sensitivity, towards God, it's something, we can cultivate, and it's an intentional thing, that our heart, would be inclined, towards him, and such that we can, deliberately set, our affection, that way, we can recalibrate, we can set, our affection, on things above, not on things, on the earth, so we'll have, a sensitive spirit, such that, we'll be sensitive, to what would please, the heart of God, what would Jesus do, if his heart, was working, what would he do, he would be moved, with compassion, he'd want to reach, souls for Christ, he'd want, that closer relationship, to the father, and that's what he wants, for us today, isn't it, that we'll be obedient, to him, responsive to his voice, that we'll have, a humble heart, an obedient heart, think of it friends, we're on the edge, of eternity, truly we're on the edge, of eternity, aren't we, that we should have, a renewed sense, of eternity, are we building, sandcastles, on the beach side, or are we, laying aside, traces in heaven, when you think about, this earthly time, this earthly, moment, that we have, of life, we can spend, our time building, sandcastles, and really, it'll all be in vain, won't it, but rather, that we can have, an eternal perspective, and set our affection, on things above, that we'd have, a heart to want, to have what he wants, for us, what would please, his heart, that we want, to discern, his leading, his guidance, and prioritize that, as the, uppermost, consideration, to have that surrender, of our personal ambitions, to God's will, and hopefully, our personal ambitions, will be God's will, that there won't be a clash, it'll actually be, we'll be so spirit led, we'll be so word led, that our personal ambitions, will be God's will, wouldn't that be good, because our heart, will be right, our heart will be attuned, and we'll surrender, our personal ambitions, to the will of God, in our daily decisions, the will of God, will feature, as the first consideration, and that we'll have, a sensitive heart, a humble, teachable, receptive heart, that will align, our ways, with God's desires, and rather than, our own personal agendas, that we're trusting,
[34:39] God's plan, and it happens, as we have that humble spirit, as we rely upon him, as we surrender, to his perfect will, and his leading, and friends, it's a heart check today, to think, how's my heart, and of course, the heart is deceitful, desperately wicked, who can know it, if you're not saved today, then your heart is, astray from God, and it's a desperately sick, it's in a desperately sick condition, spiritually sick, but thank God, your heart can be healed, the great heart doctor, can give you a new heart, you can know him, whom to know his life eternal, and the Bible talks about, that he'll give you a new heart, and that's what happens, when we're saved, effectively, there's a renewing of the heart, a renewing of the mind, our conscience is renewed, our spirit, our soul, ultimately our body, we're going to have, that newness of life, that is in Christ, and thank God, we can have that, eternal perspective, to let us pray,
[35:41] Lord we thank you, that we see the example, of David, that you, acknowledged him, to have a heart, after your own heart, even though we know, David failed, and he was a faulty, example at times, so there's even hope, for us here tonight, we know, that by your grace, you can make our heart, attuned to your heart, Lord that we'd be, a tender hearted people, that we'd be tender hearted, towards you, that we'd seek your will, and find it, and do it, that the glory of God, will be our driving, desire, in every consideration, Lord that we'll, live our lives, as living sacrifices, surrendered vessels, vessels that, can be fit, and prepared, for your use, our master, Lord help us, to have that heart change, of salvation, by your grace, as we trust you, and Lord that heart, will continue to be, formed, such that it'll be closer, to your heart, that our mind too, such that we'll have, the mind of Christ,
[36:46] Lord we won't, follow the example, of those, who are not sensitive, to your Holy Spirit, but rather, we'll walk in the tread, of those who, are sensitive, and who are examples, to us, of the tender hearted ones, Lord we praise you, in Jesus name, for all these things, Amen.
