[7:44] And they too went on Fifty men and the sons of the prophets went and stood to view afar off And they too stood by Jordan And Elijah took his mantle And wrapped it together and smote the waters And they were divided hither and thither so that they too went over on dry ground And it came to pass when they were gone over that Elijah said unto Elisha Ask what I shall do for thee before I be taken away from thee And Elisha said I pray thee let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me And he said thou hast asked a hard thing Not necessarily meaning that it's going to be hard to accomplish But meaning bud when you get that you're going to have your hands full A lot of folks wants the pastor's job But brother when you get it you've got your hands full It's a hard job
[8:45] He said you've asked a hard thing But listen he said I'm going to grant Where am I? Verse 10 Nevertheless if thou see me when I am taken from thee It shall be so unto thee But if not it shall not be so It came to pass as they still went on and talked That behold there appeared a chariot of fire And horses of fire Do you believe that preacher?
[9:11] Amen I believe horses made out of fire You analyze that one folks I believe in chariots made out of fire I believe God makes his ministers a flame of fire And just like lightning zapping around all over heaven These fiery horses appeared And part of them both asunder And Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven Now I don't know that we're going in chariots of fire But I know that one of these days And I believe real real soon We are going to heaven And I would like to be like Elisha While my time is down here I would like to Get a double portion

[13:16] And he's found He's found Elisha And what was Elisha doing? He was plowing With 12 yoke of oxen Before him Now I don't I don't know whether They were 2 yoke of oxen 6 teams To make 12 yoke Or whether he had a If he had 12 oxen Stretched out Man he'd have to have A plow that He'd have to be plowing In Comparison with a modern Massey Ferguson Wouldn't he?
[13:52] Had to have I mean Oxen can pull a lot of weight I don't know what they had Maybe he had 12 of them Lined up in a line What was he doing? He was just working On his job Just plowing his field Like any other Christian Working on his job And I want you to remember that I want you to remember Kenny I want you to remember David That he was just working On his job Like an ordinary man But Elijah Came by And Finishing the verse And he with the 12 And Elijah Passed by him And cast his mantle Upon him In other words The prophets Had A Symbol of their office Of their God given ability To Prophesy And that was their mantle For all purposes We'll just say
[14:53] That was their coat They had a prophet's Code Or shawl That they might Wear And Elisha Was just Going about His ordinary Chores He was just Doing his Ordinary thing Of working Every day And then the prophet Of God Came by And he Quote Marked him By placing that Mantle on him And said That's the man That God's going to Use to replace me The prophet's mantle Garented That he had A call Of God On his life The call Of God Is a mark A stamp On your life Brother The Bible said That God Doesn't ever Remove The call Of God The mark Of God On the life Of the prophet On the life Of a preacher
[15:53] Is something That's stamped On there Just as sure Friend As God Calls us Into the ministry God plans On us Dying Still in the ministry God plans On that call Never being Retrieved And never Being taken back And that mark Is stamped Upon Any of God's Preachers It's with them I've been Walking down The streets Of a city Where folks Did not know Who I was I've had Bums To come up To me On the street And after They talked To me For just A minute Or so And they Would I didn't Tell them Anything But when They'd leave They'd say Preacher It was good To talk To you And I'd Just be Astounded How did he Know That I was A preacher I was Sitting in A church In South Carolina One time And nobody In that Church Knew My name And a man
[16:54] Walked back That was Leading the Service He got a Hold of My hand Shook my Hand Said I'm Glad you're Here this Morning And I Said I'm Glad to Be here And he Walked on To the Next seat And he Turned around And he Come back He said Say Are you A preacher How did He know That How do They know They don't Look Any different From anybody Else Except A preacher Of God Has got The divine Mark And the Divine Call On his Life And it's There stamped All over him And he's Separate From the Rest of The Craig When O Elisha Got that Mantle Dropped On him Brother it Set him Apart As being The prophet In those Days And there's A gap Between The preacher Man And the Rest of The congregation Now I'm Not in For a Roman Catholicism I'm not In for Elevating The clergy Above the Laity I'm not In for Lording it
[17:54] Over God's People But I Say tonight Friend That there Is a Separation When you Stand up And say I'm a Preacher When you Stand up And say I'm God's Man There's Something That's Marked On your Life That you Can't Ever Get Over I Think About That Gap It Ought To Be There Some People Love Him Some People Respect Him And love Him And think Thank God That's God's Man For me In the Hour And other Folks Will ridicule Him And other Folks will Scorn him And accuse Him And say He's just An ordinary Man And they'll Say that He don't Have any Insight That anybody Else Don't Have But brother I tell you Tonight If the Call Of God Is On Your Life Not Only Will You Know It But Those Around You Will Know That You Are Preacher Man I've Had People To Be To Be Mad And Had People To To Be Frustrated And Aggravated With Me
[18:54] But I've Never Had Nobody To Ever Tell Me I Don't Think You A Preacher I Don't Know Why But That Gap Is There And Now Here's The Thing About It We In Our Baptist Circles If We Mess It Up Then We Put A Load On Their Back That Is Really Tremendous To Carry In Other Words If A Preacher Falls And They Do Fall God Called Preachers Do Fall Folks And You That Think That You Won't Or You That Think You Stand Need To Take Heed Lest You Also Would Fall But Here's The Problem Of It If God's Man Falls And Gets Down In The Gutter And Gets Down And Out And He Tries To Go Back He Can't Fit In Nowhere Brother He's Just Like A Feast And Worm And A Bunch Of Trout When He Goes Back To The World Because All They Want To Do Is Gobble Him
[19:55] Up He's Just Like When He Goes Into The House Of God He's Just Like He's Got Some Kind Of A Taboo That People Do Not Have Any Confidence And Do Not Want To Mess With Him But Yet He Goes Through His Life With That Call Of God Because The Mark Is Stamped On Him Because He's God's Man We Do Not!
[20:24] About Every Sunday Night Or At Least Monday Morning He Said I'm Going To Quit Amen I Slam My Bible Down On The Table And Said I'm Quitting Too I Ain't Quit Yet Oh Did Ever Notice That There Was Another Pastor That Was Pretty Wise Old Fellow He Come In That Night And He Said I'm Quitting I'm Not Going Preach Anymore And He Told His Pastor Friend He Said I Quit He Said Good What Yeah Good Cause He Knew He Knew That God Called Him He Couldn't Quit And If He Could Quit God Hadn't Called Now You Mark That Down I'm Saying When The Mark In The Tribulation Pair God Stamps A Mark On His Called Men Is That Not Right He Said You Can't Hurt The Earth Or You Can't Hurt The Grass Until I Have Sealed The Servants Of God With The Mark Of God The Seal Of God In Their Forehead

[24:31] It0000 Success Even Though Sometimes! Success got to as Christian people, we've got to just go ahead and live up to it.
[24:46] That's the best thing we can do. Alright, now if I've got to do this, I can't get out of it, right? Woe be unto me if I preach not the gospel. How am I going to be...
[24:58] Jeremiah said I quit. Did you ever read that? He said I quit. He said I made a promise, I made a vow to myself that I never even mention the name of God again in my house.
[25:12] But he said his word was in my bones like a fire and I could not keep seeing. Amen. Thank God. Jeremiah was unsuccessful, but he had that mark on him that he had to keep on going.
[25:29] Whether they liked it or whether they didn't like it, old Jeremiah kept on preaching. If I can't get out of it, what can I do? Well, first of all, look back in 2 Kings 2, verse 2.
[25:39] And Elisha said, well, I'm going to follow my master's footsteps. Elijah said unto Elisha, tell you here. He said nothing's shaking.
[25:51] Did you ever study those two prophets? One of them was kind of like your pastor. He wanted to force people to do that. Amen.
[26:02] That's the way Elijah was. I mean, he walks into town, bud. The dogs go looking for a hole. He wants to force them to do right. He said, you've got a God?
[26:13] Then bring your God out here. We'll see how he comes up against the God of Israel. He challenged the prophets of Baal, 450 of them, to a duel on Mount Carmel.
[26:24] And you know this story, how that the fire of God fell and how that Elijah in the prophet of fire was that old rough clad man that just come from nowhere and went to nowhere and kept on preaching.
[26:38] Kind of reminded you a lot of John the Baptist. But you know, Elisha was different. Elisha wasn't the rough shod prophet that Elijah was.
[26:50] He more or less was a soft spoken man of grace. But I want to tell you something, folks. I want to tell you something. John the Baptist came neither eating nor drinking.
[27:04] He came in a different manner than what the folks were used to and they wouldn't listen to John. On the other hand, the Lord Jesus came in a social manner.
[27:18] He ate with them. He drank with them. And they rejected Him too. So you don't need a new preacher. It doesn't matter whether you've got a rough preacher or whether you've got a soft spoken preacher.
[27:31] What matters, brother, is getting this double portion of the Spirit of God on our life. So, you know, I've heard Dad until I'm sick of it.
[27:42] If getting new preachers was the answer, brother, these Baptist churches up and down this valley, they'd have the answer every other year. Thank you, brother.
[27:53] Every other year, we'll run this thing out. We done burn him out. He can't handle it. We done burn him plum out. We'll get us a new one and our church will prosper for a couple of months to one of them old biddies gets up in this tree about something and then down he goes.
[28:09] Amen! Bless God! I hope I die! Preach! You do too tonight, right? He said, he was kind of like a difference between law and grace.
[28:21] You see, Elijah come in here laying down the law and Elisha come in laying down the grace but Israel wouldn't listen to either one of them. He said, I want a double portion. It's recorded that Elijah done something like eight miracles and Elisha did 16, exactly a double of what he did.
[28:39] Elijah would force, Elisha would plead but both failed. to bring Israel back from their idolatry. Well, he said, I'm going to Gilgal. Now if you remember the book of Joshua when the children of Israel crossed over the Jordan River, the first place they came to on the other side of Jordan was this place called Gilgal.
[29:01] And it corresponds with the time when their reproach is rolled away. They were circumcised there inside the land there at Gilgal. They came to where the place where God rolled their reproach away.
[29:15] And then I think about that Calvary is our Gilgal. There was a time, brother, when I walked across the river if you please. I knelt yonder at the altar and at Calvary my reproach was rolled away.
[29:31] And at Calvary, thank God, all my sins were gone forevermore. And he said, I want you to just hang around here. There's a lot of them that does that and they just hang around Calvary.
[29:46] Nothing wrong with Calvary. Not a thing wrong with Calvary. But you know what? After we're saved, we need to grow a little bit. Now, so he moved on.
[29:58] He said, I'm going to Bethel. See, in verse 3, so the prophets that were, or verse 2 it is, isn't it? So they went down, they left Gilgal and they went down to Bethel.
[30:11] Now, you remember Bethel in the Bible? Bethel is the place where Jacob said, I've got to get back there. Jacob had already been converted. Jacob was a man of God who had allowed idolatry to get in his life.
[30:26] He had allowed his sons and his daughters to go into idolatry. And one day he got up and he said, I'm going back to Bethel and you need to go back with me.
[30:36] Amen. We all need sometimes to get up and go back to Bethel and go back to the house of rededication of our life and our soul to the Lord Jesus Christ.
[30:49] They got down there and we're looking for a double portion. He said, well, it's not here. It's not at Calvary. It's not at rededication. So we'll go on to Jericho. We'll go on to Jericho.
[31:01] You know what happened to Jericho? That's where God won the victory for them hands down, brother. God won the victory hands down. They went into Jericho and brother, they took that city without firing a shot.
[31:17] They went into Jericho and the walls fell down flat and every man went up straight forward into the city. The walls didn't fall in like somebody hit them with a battering man but they fell down flat like they'd been pushed down from the sky and the people went in and all of God's people came out of Jericho with the victory rejoicing.
[31:41] But there was one of them there, a man by the name of Achan that looked around there and he saw a little pair of swimming trunks or something that the Babylonians were wearing. He said, well, my pastor won't like it but I don't think it'll hurt me so he got a hold of it and he got him a little, he saw a little money there in the cash register.
[31:59] He said, well, I'll take this and he took it and he hid it in a tent and he tried to cover his sins up. Next time they went out to battle, the Bible said they lost the battle.
[32:12] The Bible said when they went out they were running before the men of Ai. They were trying to get away from them. Old Joshua come back and he got down on his face before God.
[32:24] Listen, everybody there listen. He got down on his face before God and was praying and God said get up off your knees man. There ain't no need to pray to me when you got sin in the camp.
[32:38] Good lesson. A good lesson. There's no need to act pious in front of God or anybody else if you got sin in the camp.
[32:50] And Jesus said it this way. No need to straighten up your brother when you got your own eye plumb full. I can see somebody got a little speck of dirt in their eye and you said Pastor, I want to get that dirt out of your eye and you got a big tube before sticking out of yours and you're knocking me in the head trying to get a little piece of dirt out of my eye.
[33:14] No, the problem is not with my eye the problem with your eye. And let me reverse that to preach to myself. The problem is not with your eye the problem is mine. Of course, I admitted that and got me a pair of glasses.
[33:29] Where am I? Victory. Victory in Jericho. Now, here's the sad thing. Here's the sad thing. They went out there and they said, Achan, you've got to die.
[33:42] Not only is it going to cost you, but it's going to cost your wife. And it's going to cost your children. And it's going to cost your horses. And it's going to cost your cows.
[33:53] It's going to cost your dogs. It's going to cost the rats that run around your tent. Everything you've got is going to suffer because of your sins. Amen, preacher.
[34:04] Amen. Amen. Amen. Everything you've got, your wife, your kids, everything you've got can suffer because of your sins.
[34:16] I say not only for preachers, but I say for every child of God, it pays us to walk right because payday's coming. One day, he left him at Jordan or he left him at Jericho.
[34:33] He said, I'll not leave. And so they went out to the Jordan, a place of death. Oh, Elijah reached down with that mantle and smoked that water. And they walked across on dry ground.
[34:47] You believe that, preacher? Amen. I believe if I had that same kind of power and had that same mantle, had that same office from God, I could walk right out there and I could reach down and touch Witcher Creek, brother, and she just commenced to stocking up.
[35:01] And I could walk across not even get my little hushpuppet in the creek because God is the one that stops it. If God made a creek, God can stop it from running.
[35:13] If God made a river, God can stop it from running. If God made an ocean, brother, God can part her apart and let his children walk across. Elijah was separated.
[35:25] And then when they got through the Jordan, through the type of death and got on the other side, he said, well, we're going to have rapture time.
[35:36] Jesus passed by the type of death. He didn't pass by the type. He passed through the deep water of death himself.
[35:49] And when he came out on the other side, amen, he said, time to have sinned. Is that right? He said, I'm going back to heaven. He did.
[36:03] He's there tonight. He ever lives to make intercession for us. And I want to show you something. Turn with me to the book of Isaiah chapter 43, if you will.
[36:16] The book of Isaiah chapter 43. I want to read you something here. Isaiah chapter 43, verse 1.
[36:30] 1. But now thus saith the Lord that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, fear not, for I have redeemed thee.
[36:42] I have called thee by thy name. Thou art mine. When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee. And through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee.
[36:55] When thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned. Neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. For I am the Lord thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Savior.
[37:09] I gave Egypt for thy ransom, Ethiopia, and Seba for thee. Since thou was precious in my sight, thou hast been honorable, and I have loved thee.
[37:21] Therefore will I give men for thee, and people for thy life. Fear not, for I am with thee. I will bring thy seed from the east, and gather thee from the west.
[37:33] Thou say to the north, Give up, and to the south, keep not back. Bring my sons from far, and my daughters from the ends of the earth, even everyone that is called by my name.
[37:46] For I have created him. For my glory, I have formed him. Yea, I have made him. God said, when you pass through the water, I'll go through them with you.
[38:01] Amen. God said, when you're in the fire, it'll not burn you, because I'll be by your side. Brother, I don't know about you, but there's many a time since I started on this journey that the waters have got dark, and they've got deep around my soul.
[38:22] And I thought, man, there's no way out of this. Then I looked up to the right hand of the Father, and thank God, He rolled me over the tide.
[38:33] I'm glad that my God is still on my side. And if God be for me, all the devils of hell can't be against me.
[38:44] And He took him out the other side of Jordan. He said, it's time for me to go home. And he left. And oh, Elisha watched him as he went up.
[38:56] Elisha sought his master spirit. And I say, brother, I want that double portion of the Spirit of God on me. Every child of God has a common portion.
[39:09] Every child of God. The Bible said that if you have not the Spirit of Christ, you are none of His. And so every one of us has got a common portion.
[39:22] But I don't want to be satisfied tonight with a common portion. But I want to have a double portion of the Spirit of God on me. I want God's blessings to just pull out and overflow me.
[39:37] The mark of God on my life. The mark of God on my ministry. I don't care what people say if I can just be wrapped in the arms of Almighty God.
[39:52] Elisha beheld his master's glory. He saw the chariots of fire. He followed him through the Jordan. And he became conformable to his death.
[40:04] And he received his master's gift. He received just exactly what the master said. Elijah's mantle kind of fell down on him when he left here.
[40:17] And I believe, brother, when Jesus went away, listen, he said, I'll not leave you comfortless. But he said, I'll send another comforter that he may abide with you forever.
[40:29] And on the day of Pentecost, the mantle of Jesus Christ fell on to a waiting church. And brother, a portion of the Spirit of God got upon their life.
[40:42] And I say this, when the Spirit of God gets on your life, the mantle will help you to overcome the things of this world. Overcame by a gift from above.
[40:53] When you get that double portion, you'll show up in the Master's likeness. Jesus said it this way. He said, be careful to maintain good works.
[41:05] He said, let your light so shine before men that they'll see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
[41:16] The sons of the prophets said he's got Elijah's Spirit on him. I know he's got it because he's doing the work that Elijah did. Amen. Amen.
[41:27] You know how we know that you've got the Spirit of God when you like the things that God likes. We know that when you like the things that God likes and you do the work that God works and you reflect the image of God in your life and your life shows not by your mouth but by your deeds, your testimony, then people can say that is a man that's got a double portion of the Spirit of God.
[41:57] Elijah said, I'm not going to quit until I get it. I'm going to stay with it until I get it. I want it. God said, I can have it and I'm going to have it.
[42:08] He said, well, some of us can stop here and hang around Calvary. I'm not belittling Calvary but we've got Baptist churches, folks, that they major on the doctrine once in grace always in grace.
[42:23] They major on it to the point that they don't know that. Now, it's true. I'm not preaching against you. Hey, you look at the one by the Baptist preacher's head and he'll tell you I am saved today and I'll be saved in many years from now.
[42:39] Not because of my effort but because of Jesus Christ. And they major on that. And then we've got another crowd that majors on rededication.
[42:51] Amen. They want you to come up here every service and rededicate your life. I mean, they've rededicated their cigarettes, they've rededicated their copy book, they've rededicated their glasses, they're all I can say to you.
[43:06] You're out here and I'm probably in your Bible service. You've got to rededicate this. You've got to rededicate that. And I'm not against rededication, brother. All of us need to make a trip back to Vessel every once in a while.
[43:18] But I say this, it'd be better if we lived so we wouldn't have to rededicate your life. It'd be better if we had that portion of the Spirit of God for our works that nobody would have to rededicate your life.
[43:35] Then I think about, you know, I took them out to Jordan and some of them majors on baptism. That's all I know that baptism is baptism and I'm all for a baptism.
[43:47] And we're just going to vote on it. I say baptizing bless God. And then with the help, I can baptize and eat. Amen. I'm all for it. But I say this, what we need tonight is a double portion of the Holy Spirit of the Lord.
[44:03] that will show up on the job for today. That will show up, Brother Kenny, on the job. That will show up for your work.
[44:14] That will show up for your home. That people will say, well, I believe there will be for God. Oh, I'm not going to have that. With you, we can.
[44:25] We can. All we got to do is just be persistent with God. But let's say in law say this morning, he'd pour out the water if we search for it.
[44:39] We can't drink our problem and I'm quitting.
