Fasting For Results

[0:00] Thank you for choosing to listen to today's message by Reverend Dr. David Etrie. We know you will be blessed as you seek and serve God. We believe that this message will stir up a desire for more of God even as you listen.

[0:13] Be blessed. I want to talk about fasting. And my title, I want to call it Fasting for Results.

[0:24] Fasting for Results because if you are fasting, then you must see results. Fasting is not funny.

[0:41] It's not entertaining. Yesterday in the morning, not in the morning, in the morning around 10 a.m., I was on my way for a conference.

[0:52] And I already started feeling. I should eat. I should eat. You know, when you start fasting, those times, in the mornings, your system begins to...

[1:05] Something must enter. Something must enter. So fasting is not funny. If I am disciplining, bringing myself under a certain level of discipline, then it must be worth a while.

[1:20] Why would you fast with our results? I want to announce to you that you will see great results. Amen. Results that will baffle the mind of people.

[1:35] Amen. So fasting for results. There are two categories or kinds, generally speaking, of fasting.

[1:48] Two ways. One is the personal fast. The other one is the corporate fast or general fast.

[1:59] Corporate fast is the same as general fasting or public fasting. So personal fast. Personal fast. Jesus, in Matthew chapter 4, verse 2, Bible says that, and when he had fasted 40 days and 40 nights, afterwards, he was hungry.

[2:19] Let's read from verse 1. Verse 1 says that, and Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. All right? Why was he led by the Spirit?

[2:32] Where did the Spirit lead him to? It's interesting. So you think that the Spirit will always lead you to the city? The palace?

[2:42] No. The Spirit led him to the wilderness. The Holy Spirit. When it came on him, the first thing he did was take him into the wilderness. So just before that, the Bible says that he was being baptized and the heavens was opened.

[2:57] And the Holy Spirit descended in a bodily form. Okay? So the Spirit of God led him to be tempted. But he led him into the wilderness where temptations were supposed to be carried out.

[3:10] So when you read your text, it said, to be tempted by the devil, not to go and fast. He was led to be tempted. And it was 40 days. Moses was before God for 40 days.

[3:23] 40 days is a number for testing and trial. All right? So he was tested and tried for 40 days. So it wasn't like when he finished that Satan came.

[3:34] Satan was there already testing. But the Bible didn't tell us the terms of the testing. But all we know is that Jesus was tempted at every point like us. According to Hebrews chapter 4, I think verse 15.

[3:46] All right? So temptation. So he was tempted. He was led by the chapter 4 again. Matthew. He was led. Matthew 4. He was led to be tempted.

[3:57] And then verse 2 says that. And when he had fasted 40 days and 40 nights. So whilst he was there, he was fasting.

[4:08] He wasn't there with people. Other people. He was there alone. Private fasting. Personal fasting. Daniel chapter 9 verse 3 talks about. Then I set my face towards the Lord God to make requests by prayer and supplications with fasting.

[4:27] So he didn't say we. I. So that is the personal fasting. The private fasting. And we have the corporate one. Esther chapter 4 verse 16.

[4:38] Corporate fasting. Public fasting. General fasting. Esther said, go gather all the Jews who are present in Shushan. And fast for me. Who should fast for me?

[4:49] The Jews. Not an individual. The Jews. And fast for me. Neither eat nor drink for three nights. Three days. No. Three days.

[5:01] Three days. Night nor day. My maids and I will fast likewise. So he said, you guys fast. And once. Because she was in the palace.

[5:12] You guys can come and join me in the palace. And I just can't come. So I have got maids. I've got assistants with me. We are going to fast. But you too fast for three days. He says, and take note of the word.

[5:24] Fast likewise. So likewise. Meaning in the same way. Right. So you guys fast for three days. And we too do the same. But it's a corporate fasting. So they got that.

[5:35] And fast. In Acts chapter 13 verse 2. Bible says from verse 1. That in the church that was at Antioch. There were some teachers and prophets. Prophets and teachers. Barnabas, Simeon.

[5:46] Who was called nigger. Lucius of Cyrene. Manian. Who had been brought up with Herod the Tetrarch and Saul. Verse 2.

[5:57] Verse 2 says that. And they ministered. I want the King James. I prefer the King James. Okay. Let's stay there. And let's go back. And they ministered to the Lord and fasted.

[6:08] Say they. They. Not he. Just group. So they. And every Christian must have times where you are part of a corporate move.

[6:19] And times where you have your private thing. Paul. Even though he was amongst them. Bible says that Paul said he fasted often. So he had a lifestyle of fasting regularly.

[6:31] So two types. The general one. Or the corporate. I prefer the corporate fasting. And the personal or private fasting. And now.

[6:42] Fasting is not Old Testament. Let's see how Jesus puts it. Jesus was talking to his disciples. Remember. He says that. In Matthew chapter 28. Verse 19.

[6:54] He says that. All power in heaven and on earth is given to me. Therefore. Go ye therefore. And make disciples of all nations. By baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son of the Holy Spirit. Okay.

[7:04] Go and make disciples. Baptize them. Look at the next verse. Verse 20. Baptize them. And teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you. So. We are supposed to pass on what Jesus passed to us.

[7:17] So whatever he taught us. He taught his disciples. Was not just for Jewish audience. It was for the body of Christ. The Christians. Right. And he taught them in Matthew chapter 6.

[7:29] Verse 16. Matthew 6. 16. He says that. Moreover. Moreover. When you fast. Let's not read it out loud. The first line. Let's go. Moreover.

[7:41] One more time. Moreover. When you fast. Did he say if you fast? Moreover. It's when. It's a necessary part of your work. When you fast.

[7:54] Okay. So Jesus expected them to fast. He was talking to his disciples. He said when you fast. Don't be like the hypocrites. Who carry a sad face for everybody to see they are fasting.

[8:06] You have to see. You see from afar. This person is fasting. You call them on the phone and. Hello. Hello. They have to make you know that they are fasting. He says. Don't do it necessarily that.

[8:18] To get. Get human approval. So when you are giving your. You are doing arms. Giving arms. Don't let everybody see that you are trying to help somebody. All right. And then he said when you pray. Don't stand. Want everybody to see.

[8:29] As for me I pray. You know. But this is just. These are three things he told them. So. He said when you fast. Now in Mark chapter 2 verse. 17. In Mark chapter 2 verse 17.

[8:41] Let's go to verse 18. I think. Let's just go to verse 18. Verse 18. The disciples of John. And the Pharisees. Were fasting. Okay. So even.

[8:52] Those who are not. Go on again. Do this. Fasting was a norm. Norm. In spiritual activities. They were fasting. Then they came. Those who were fasting. Came and said to Jesus.

[9:03] Why. Do the disciples of John. And the Pharisees fast. But your disciples don't fast. Because they saw that these guys were always eating.

[9:18] One. Because. There was a custom. All Jews. Neither two. Adhered to. So there's. There are times. That. Based on the law. You're supposed to be fasting at certain times.

[9:31] But they realized. That when we are fasting. The guys are not fasting. You see them at the restaurant. They were eating. Big five. But these are Jesus disciples. So they really had a problem.

[9:41] They came and asked Jesus. Why don't your disciples fast? They asked Jesus. That means. Jesus. Jesus. What's with them? And that was. In the days of Jesus. You know. I thought you did.

[9:52] I thought you did. I thought you did. I thought you did. Jesus said. In the days of the son of man. You'll see this day. You'll find it again. When he was physically with them. So they came and asked him. Why? Do you know the answer he gave them? The next verse. Look at the next verse.

[10:02] Jesus said to them. Can the friends of the bridegroom fast whilst the bridegroom is with them? Jesus loved to describe himself as the bridegroom.

[10:14] John the Baptist. When they told him that all people were going to Jesus. John the Baptist says that. Look at John. I'll come back to the record. I need you to hear this. In John chapter 3.

[10:26] John chapter 3 verse 29. John chapter 3 verse 29. Look at 28. Just to make within context. You yourself bear witness.

[10:37] That's this John talking. That I said I am not the Christ. But I have been sent before him. So when they told him that people were going to Jesus. He said I've told you I'm not the Christ.

[10:49] Look at the next verse. Watch this. He who has the bride is the groom. The bridegroom. But the friend of the bridegroom. Who stands and hears him.

[11:00] Rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom's voice. Therefore this joy of mine is fulfilled. He was saying that me. I'm not the groom. So if people are going to the groom.

[11:12] I actually was. I just came to introduce you to the groom. So John the Baptist called Jesus the groom. Who is the bride? The church. Alright. So you have to remember. The church is the bride. But Jesus Christ presents himself as a groom.

[11:24] A groom coming to seek his bride. According to Ephesians chapter 5. Wives love. Verse 25. Husbands. Sorry. Husbands love your wives. As Christ loved the church and gave him.

[11:34] So there's a relationship between Christ and the church. Which is like a husband and wife. As Christ loved the church and gave him. Okay. Let's go back to what I was talking about. So Mark chapter 2 verse 19.

[11:48] No 20. Let's go to Mark chapter 2 verse. Alright. So let's pick it from verse 19. He says that Jesus said. Can the friends of the bridegroom fast whilst the bridegroom is with them?

[11:59] As long as they have the bridegroom with them. They cannot fast. Look at the next verse. But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them. And then. And then they will fast in those days.

[12:12] So his disciples were not fasting while he was with them. Because those times. They had his presence. They had him. He was physically with them. But he says the time is coming when I will be taken away.

[12:25] And then they will fast. So fasting is New Testament. It's not something that is old. In 1 Corinthians chapter. Sorry. 2 Corinthians chapter 11 verse 27.

[12:37] Paul said. In fastings oft. King James puts it that way. King James says. In fastings oft. 2 Corinthians chapter 11 verse 27. In fastings oft.

[12:48] In other words he fasted. In weariness and toil. In sleeplessness often. In hunger and thirst. In fasting. So that bishop.

[12:59] This question came up. He said. When he said fasting. He meant. I have not been eating. But he said in hunger and thirst. In hunger and thirst.

[13:09] Foodlessness. And fasting is an intentional program. It's not accidental. Fasting is a program. You put yourself on. So what is fasting?

[13:21] Fasting is denying. Or abstaining from food. Or drink. For a period of time. For spiritual reasons. Or as a spiritual exercise.

[13:34] Alright. So fasting is to abstain from food. Or drink. Or from customary. Or choice nourishment. As a spiritual exercise.

[13:46] For a special reason. So. Your customary nourishment. Or choice nourishment. You abstain from it. From food and drink. You abstain from it. It's intentional.

[13:57] It's not accidental. Alright. Okay. Are you learning something? Oh yeah. I'll teach you. I'll teach you. You've got to know. Today I'm just going to take my time. And teach slow.

[14:08] Without laughter. Slowly. But. The big question comes up.

[14:19] If you're talking about fasting. But why should I fast? Why? What's the purpose of fasting then? Why should I deny myself from regular nourishment?

[14:32] Which is necessary for my living? Why should I just punish myself? I want to give you. I've written down just six purposes and reasons for fasting.

[14:43] When you fast. What do you get? And why should you fast? Number one. In Daniel chapter 9 verse 2 and 3. Daniel chapter 9 verse 2 and 3.

[14:55] It says that. In the first year of his reign. I, Daniel, understood by the books. The number of the years specified by the word of God. Of the Lord.

[15:06] Through Jeremiah the prophet. That he would accomplish 70 years in the desolation of Jerusalem. Then I set my face towards the Lord God.

[15:18] To make requests by prayer. And supplication with fastings. Sad cloth and ashes. Sad cloth. So the Jews were in captivity.

[15:30] And God had already prophesied by, through Jeremiah. That they are going to go into bondage. They are going to go into, the Jews were going to go into captivity for 70 years. And so through his research and studies.

[15:43] He found out that the 70 year is up now. But we are still in captivity. But the stipulated time is due. It's over. So the captivity must be overruled.

[15:55] Over 10. Now it must be over. But it's not the government who is going to do it. It's spiritual. Because it was prophesied. And so Daniel said, what am I supposed to do? Verse 3.

[16:05] Then I set my face towards the Lord God to make requests. And by, how did he make the request? By prayer and supplications. So prayer and supplication is okay.

[16:17] But looking at the intensity of the situation. He had to add fasting. To intensify the results of prayer. Or the efforts of prayer and supplication. Watch this.

[16:27] So he was making the request. With prayer and supplication. Let's all say prayer and supplication. Prayer and supplication. How did he make his prayer and supplication? With fasting, sackcloth and ashes.

[16:41] Sackcloth and ashes just means that. Humbling yourself. Bringing yourself in such a way that. It's not the time for fun. It's not the time for flamboyant things. It's time for serious business.

[16:51] It's like a woman at the labor ward. That's not the time for makeup and special hair. No, no, no. So he said. But what he was doing. Watch this. What he was doing is.

[17:03] Make requests by prayer and supplication. So the main cause is prayer and supplication. Fasting was an enhancement.

[17:15] Does that make sense? He was enhancing his prayer and supplication. So that makes it an exercise in futility. If you fast without prayer.

[17:25] Because God answers prayers. Not fastings. He's a prayer answering God. Not a fasting answering God.

[17:36] So it is first of all prayer. But it's prayer and supplication. But you enhance it with such seriousness and intensity. Through fasting. That's why you can't always be fasting.

[17:48] Because it's really not necessary. Necessary. It's really not necessary. All right. So he. Number one.

[18:00] What's the purpose of fasting? To intensify your seeking God for a particular result. You are intensifying your seeking God.

[18:11] You are seeking God with intensity. So you are. You are. It's like enhancing. The search. Or the. The quest. You are embarking on.

[18:23] You are enhancing it. Making it more intense. Making it more intense. Usually when there is. There is. A murder incident. And the police. Are investigating.

[18:33] They just. Have to. Assign. Some. Detectives. Or. Investigators.

[18:44] On the. But. On the business. On the job. But. Guess what. When someone has. Two people have guns. And they are shooting. And you have. You don't know where they are. They are shooting everybody. You know. The investigation gets.

[18:55] Critical. And very intense. Because this is. It's different. If. Someone is already dead. And we are trying to find out. How it died. But if someone is dead. And the one who is killing. Is killing others. And is. At large.

[19:06] Then. You know. We need to. The police have to. Intensify. Their search. And their activities. They don't have to say. Oh. Two months. We'll find out. Three. No. No. No. They don't have that time. To waste. And so. When it comes to.

[19:17] Fasting. It's like. You. You. You. You. You need. Some. Agent results. You need. Something done. Agently. And so. You are. Embarking. The request.

[19:27] Or backing. The request. With. Intensity. Prayer. Sorry. Fasting. All right. So. Fasting. Is to intensify. Your. Your.

[19:38] Quest. Number two. Fasting. Makes. It's easier. To enjoy. A certain. Dimension. Of the spirit.

[19:49] Smooth. Okay. So. The move. Of the spirit. It makes. Fasting. Makes it easier. For you. To enjoy. The move. Of the spirit. To a certain. Dimension. In other words.

[19:59] Hear what I didn't say. I didn't say. You can't enjoy. The move. Of the spirit. Without fasting. I didn't say that. You can't enjoy. The move. Of the spirit. With fasting.

[20:09] Without fasting. You don't always have to fast. To see the move. Of the spirit. But when you fast. It opens you up. And it clears. The air. For the spirit. Of God. To be able. To move. In a certain.

[20:20] Dimension. A higher dimension. So. That's why. I believe. In fact. Last Friday. See what happened. Last Friday. As soon as I stood. I took over. The platform. I went on the stage.

[20:31] I just could tell. The atmosphere was so light. The atmosphere. And I could tell. Things were happening already. Things. Testimonies were coming. There's a move. So. When we fast.

[20:42] It actually. Helps us. Or gives us. The privilege. Of enjoying. The move of the spirit. To a certain dimension. Acts chapter 13. Verse 2 and 3. Acts chapter 13.

[20:53] Verse 2 and 3. Bible says that. And when. As they ministered. To the Lord. And fasted. The Holy Spirit said. Did you see that? They were prophets. And teachers.

[21:04] But. They were in the midst. In the middle. Bible didn't say. After they have ministered. After they have ministered. And fasted. He said. As. So.

[21:14] Whilst they were fasting. The Holy Spirit. It granted the Holy Spirit. The opportunity. And watch this. That was. That was one. Of the greatest moves. Of the spirit. In scripture. After the death of Christ.

[21:26] The first one. Was the day of Pentacles. When. The Holy Spirit. Came. On the Jews. Who were waiting for. Him. In the upper room. And.

[21:36] So. It says. In Acts chapter 1. Verse 8. It says that. You shall receive power. After the Holy Ghost. Has come upon you. And. After the Holy Spirit. Has come upon you. And you shall be witnesses. Of me. In Jerusalem. And.

[21:47] In all Judea. And Samaria. That was really. Within the Jewish territory. Kind of. So. But. To the ends. Of the world. Once you are stepping out. Into the Gentile world.

[21:59] Is the new face. And. That was what happened. Acts chapter 13. The Holy Ghost. Was now coming. About to move. Into the Gentile world. And so.

[22:10] Whilst these teachers. Were in. Not in Jerusalem. Not in Jerusalem. The first time. He came in Jerusalem. But the next time. He came in. An anti. Sorry. He came in. A Gentile territory. He came upon them.

[22:22] In a Gentile territory. And he spoke to them. Bible says that. Whilst. As they ministered. To the Lord. And fasted. The Holy Spirit said. Separate unto me. Barnabas and Saul. For the way.

[22:32] I've said them. And that was. To now take the. The gospel. To the Gentiles. And so. When we fast. It creates the room. For the Holy Spirit. To. Create. It gives us.

[22:43] It makes it easier. Actually. It makes it easier. For us to enjoy. A certain dimension. Of the move of the Spirit. Then. Number three. I like this one.

[22:55] Very much. In Exodus chapter 34. Verse 28. And 29. Exodus 34. 28. And 29. Please. I want you to have it.

[23:05] In your hearts. Too fast. Now. It was so. When Moses came. So. He was there. With the Lord. 40 days. And 40 nights. He.

[23:15] He. Neither. Eats bread. Nor. Drank water. And he. Wrote. Watch this. And he wrote. On the tablets. The words.

[23:25] Of the covenant. The ten commandments. He received. The ten commandments. In a time of fasting. You can't just be going. Eating and drinking. And relaxing. And just receive.

[23:36] Something. So generational. Wow. It is so. Huge. It was a major move. Of God. Just like Jesus. Before he started his ministry. Alright. So. Moses.

[23:47] Had to. Go and spend. 40 days. And 40 nights. Without food and drink. In God's presence. For the ten commandments. To be granted him.

[23:58] To be given. So. The point number three. Is to receive. God's blueprint. For a generational. For. For. For. For. A generation.

[24:08] Or generations. To receive. You know. You want God. To do something exceptional. In your life. That will. Affect the whole generation. Or. And beyond. You must learn.

[24:18] How to fast. Some. Watch this. Carice. Changed. We always fast. We always fast. We always fast. We always fast. We always fast. But I went away. And it was in fasting. When God spoke to me. About some of the major things.

[24:28] That have changed our church. And. Please. Maybe if you are here. You may not realize. Because when you are in. You may not realize. But God. By his grace. And to his glory. Is affecting many churches.

[24:40] Around the world. Through Carice Ministries. God is affecting churches. Many churches. For. For. For good. Some churches. Have now. Started embarking on.

[24:51] Outreaches. Some churches. Have started. Embarking on. Prayer programs. Long term. Prayer programs. Because this. Short term. Short term thing.

[25:01] It's good. But it doesn't change. Much. Sometimes. If you want to see. The hand of God. In a very strange. And a very strong way. It calls for. A sustained. Period of time.

[25:12] Doing something. For a sustained. Period of time. And. We started. 92 days. Of daily prayers. People say. How? How? How? And now.

[25:23] It's becoming a norm. In the heart of others. Who are also looking. For the move of God. And. Last year. God led us. To do 365 days. Others are attempting.

[25:33] To do other. In fact. There's a pastor. Who called me. The other time. From overseas. Says that. They are starting. 365 days. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow.

[25:43] Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Many churches have to put their pictures on Facebook. We started it. We started it.

[25:58] Don't underestimate what God is doing here. We started it. Yeah. You can clap for Jesus. We started it. Now. Our outreach is becoming fashionable.

[26:11] Where people wear uniforms. And even everybody wants to do yellow. But. This joy of mine. Is fulfilled. So God used us to start some things.

[26:23] But I didn't just use that. Because we are just there. And then. Oh God. We are asking God. Use us. But. But. Some of us. Give ourselves to fasting.

[26:34] And prayer. And in the middle. In the middle of fasting and prayer. We heard the voice of God. We receive instructions. We receive directions. That curse. Our club. Goes beyond.

[26:44] Our church boundaries. And curse across this generation. Hallelujah. So. When you fast. We fast to receive.

[26:55] God's. Some of you. God's blueprint for your family. Must be given to you. Tell you. Now. Some things are going on. In your family. It's been like that. The family has always had these problems.

[27:07] And this. The family is known for that. And that's. I mean. You know. Everybody is accepted. But God is about to give you an answer. To change something. In your family. God is about to give you the blueprint.

[27:18] And you are going to set a new pace. For the generations to come. Something is about to change. Shout. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. But it doesn't just change. Generational changes.

[27:29] Movers and shakers. Must pay a certain price. To see God move and shake. So if you are not willing to pay a price. You can. You can. You can receive the price. Every price.

[27:41] Has a price tag. So to receive something. Be willing to pay the price. Number four. Oh. I like this.

[27:52] There was a time. The Jews. Their lives. It's not Hitler. Who attempted to. Wipe out the Jews. First. It's not Hitler. To be Jewish. Has always been.

[28:03] To face the threat. Of. Of extinction. It's always been like that. From the days of David and Goliath. Yeah. From the days of Saul. Yeah.

[28:15] I'm telling you. That's true. It's always been like that. And it will not change. Hitler has gone. But there are different. Variant versions of Hitler. Yes. Who haven't been able to. Carry out their.

[28:26] Hitleric. Desires. Yes. So. Antisemitism. Is. With us. It will be with us. Till Jesus comes.

[28:38] Because. It has always been. The program of Satan. Satan. Hates Jews. Because. God said. The seed of the woman. Shall brood your head. And then God came to Abraham.

[28:50] And he said. Your seed. I'll bless you. And make your seed great. There's a blessing on Abraham. The devil has always targeted. Because. When. Adam and Eve. Missed it. God started a new thing.

[29:01] In Abraham. Wow. And so. That thing that he started in Abraham. Is what he's going to use. To paralyze the devil. And so the devil has always kept an eye. On the seed of Abraham. But he doesn't know.

[29:13] That when Jesus died. He came to die. So that. The seed of Abraham. Will not only be geographical. Or will be. Will be. By genealogy. But it's going to be. By. In Christ.

[29:24] Once you are in Christ. Now. So we are all the seed of. That's what the Bible says. We are all the seed of. That's why Satan doesn't like us. But. Anyway. The Jews.

[29:34] His existence. Was under threat. By a man called. Nehman. Oh sorry. Haman. Haman. Haman. He. And an executive order. Was issued.

[29:45] That all Jews. Should be executed. On a certain day. Execute. All Jews. And Mordecai. Got to know about it. But at that time. God has planted.

[29:56] An Esther. In the palace. God. God. God. God. Is a God. Of. Plants. He always knows what to do.

[30:08] So. May I submit to you. What you are going through. And the problems you are going through. Don't think there are no answers. The answers God has for you. Has already been given. Yeah. But. It is up to us.

[30:19] To find the answers. And grab the answers. Through fastness. So. God. Planted. Esther. In the palace. How come? Because.

[30:30] The. The then queen. The former queen. Was invited. By the king. At a certain time. Because the king. Had God's guests. And. The king wanted. His guests. To see how fine.

[30:42] His. Shoshu. Yeah. Shoshu. Shoshu. The queen wanted. To do. Shoshu. With his wife. And then. They said. For the wife. Can you please. Come.

[30:53] And let me. Come and meet my guests. For where? I'm not. I'm not. I'm not coming. Anywhere. So. He said. So.

[31:04] They called. They called. For the queen. And the queen. Didn't want to. Do it. And then. The king's. Advice. Advice. Him. That. If you allow her. To go. Unpunished. It will set a precedent.

[31:15] For all. Other wives. And. That we have. We will have a lot of problems. In our kingdom. So. We. She must be punished. For what she has done. Because a public reaction. And so. The queen was divorced.

[31:26] She was taken out of the palace. So the king needed a new wife. It was all. The. The working of God. Because. Esther needed to be in the palace. A Jewish girl.

[31:37] So God waited. When Esther was well formed. And could. Had. The. Ability to. To win. A beauty contest. That waited. For. Vashti. To misbehave.

[31:49] Vashti was used not to do that. It was a set up. It was a set up. Set Vashti up. So Vashti. Vashti was occupying the throne. For Esther to grow. So.

[32:00] When. Esther came. Esther needed a Mordecai. To tell Esther. Go and stand for the contest. He didn't say. Oh. Go and be praying. And we just believe God. No. No. No. Stand for a contest.

[32:11] Some of you. Just apply for that job. You got to go into parliament. Yes. Apply for that job. Get into the media. Oh. We are fasting. God.

[32:21] Let there be a move. You should be the move. You are the move. Get into the teaching field. Become a head mistress.

[32:32] Rise through the ranks. And become the head or executive of the teachers federation. A head teachers federation. Or something. The judges. Be a judge. Let's get in there. Let's get in there.

[32:43] Let's get in there. All I'm trying to say is that some of you. Your position is being occupied by somebody. But God was just trying to get you to hear this.

[32:54] So you'll be ready and move there. And they'll move the person out. And oh. Watch this. You are not moving there for your decoration and for your enjoyment. You are moving there because it's a divine assignment in a time of revival.

[33:07] Shout the ears. Yes. I stand here to announce that UK shall be saved. UK shall be saved. UK shall be saved. UK shall be saved. UK shall be saved.

[33:17] In the name of Jesus. Get in the system. Yes. Get into the system. Get into politics. Yes.

[33:28] Get into the system. There's no way that is not neat enough. Go there. If it's dirty, go and wash it. Yes. Get into it. Because we, God needs a representative in the palace.

[33:44] The reason why things are going the way they are going is because of lack of representatives. Haman was about to pass a law. But God, in his foreknowledge, God in his wisdom, had moved ahead and planted his own changer.

[34:04] The one who changed things. God has planted her in the palace. Haman had access to the palace. But God's representative had access to the king.

[34:15] He had the king's heart. He had the king's heart. And so, Mordecai told her, stand for the contest. She stood for the contest. And she won hands down.

[34:26] So she became the queen. After she became the queen, after a while, Haman passed a law. And the king, Haman, the king liked Haman. He was like the counselor of the H.J.

[34:36] He was the closest to the king. The king loved him, liked him. So he said, no, we have to execute these guys. They are a problem, a man is to their kingdom. And the king signed it with an irrevocable endorsement.

[34:51] According to the law, once that is signed, it cannot be repealed. According to the law of the Medes and the Persians, it can't be repealed. And so he signed it. So there was a date that all Jews should be killed.

[35:01] Anyone, you know any Jew killing, take their possessions. And so when the law was passed, Mordecai heard about it. And Mordecai went to Esther. He couldn't go to the palace.

[35:13] So send those who go to the palace. Tell Esther that a law has been passed for all Jews to be executed. And can you do something? Can you go to the king and speak to the king on our behalf?

[35:25] But in those days, there was also a law. You can't go to the king when he's in chambers, in the palace. You have to stay there until he calls you. So you can't go when you haven't been summoned or been invited or called.

[35:37] If you go without being called, the punishment is execution. You have to be executed outright. And so Esther said, I can't go. Because I can't just get up and go to the king and go and talk to him.

[35:51] I can't go. Mordecai said, hey! Who knows if you have verse 15 of Esther chapter 4. Esther 4, 15. It says that Esther told them to reply to Mordecai.

[36:06] Go to the next verse. Verse 16. No, let's go to verse 14. I prefer the verse 14. Okay. It said, and Mordecai said to Esther, If you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place.

[36:21] Because God will always get his work done. God will. God gave you opportunity to be wealthy, to be financially stable, so you can help and build his church. But you didn't do it.

[36:32] God will raise somebody else. God always have a lot more on the reserve seat. God will use somebody else. And so Esther, Mordecai told that help will arise from another place for the Jews.

[36:46] Because one thing I'm certain, Mordecai indirectly saying that, the Jews will never be executed. God will always rise up for them. But may it be you. May you be the vessel through whom God will use.

[36:58] Or the vessel God will use to deliver, to bring. I pray that may you be the one God will use. This revival, revival, revival, revival we are praying about. God, one of the visions I have, which God has put in my heart, we have to buy a huge complex with hostel facilities, with auditorium where people will come and stay there fasting and praying from all over the world.

[37:22] It's going to just be used for that. So a facility is coming. It's not every facility we have to buy or we can buy. Some facilities are given.

[37:34] God will put it in. I'm telling you. I'm telling you. I'm telling you. God will move the hearts of people to give what the church needs for their work. Because it's not for individuals. It's for the kingdom of God and generations.

[37:48] Check history. Check all these great revivalists. And the establishments they left behind. Most of it is not they didn't buy it. It was given. It was willed. Some was willed and some was handed over.

[37:59] Read the Bible. Acts chapter 4. Acts chapter 4. Acts chapter 5. That is normal. The normal aspect of revival is that people give things. Revival, the church doesn't have to be buying everything.

[38:12] A lot must be given. Wow. Wow. So he said help will come from somewhere else. But if you don't respond, if you don't do that something.

[38:24] He said, but you. Verse. Put it back on the screen. Verse 14. But you and your household. Don't think that you and your household. Or your father's house. That you will perish. Others will be saved.

[38:36] But you are in their palace and you will perish. Because guess what? You are also Jewish. Yeah. You are Jewish. God wanted to use you to bring help. You didn't do it. You are the one who will suffer. Others who God was going to use you to bring them the help.

[38:48] They will benefit. Not from you. From other places. But you. You have gone past yourself by date. And when Esther heard it. So he said yet. Who knows.

[38:59] And this is what he said. Who knows if you were appointed a queen. Did you ever dream? Did you ever dream? Did you ever imagine you becoming a queen? Was it part of your training?

[39:11] Where? It's God just gave you. This is not something you asked for. It wasn't part of your life vision. You're not supposed to be a queen. And now you have been a queen.

[39:22] And instead of using the position for God. You are trying to protect the position. Because this position is very important. So Esther. Who knows. If you have come into the kingdom for such a time as this.

[39:33] And I like what Esther said. Esther said. I have to go to the king. But I need the heavens to move and change the order for me. Alright. Because you can't just get up and go. Because you are going to tread on some dangerous grounds.

[39:45] You have to do some homework first. What's the homework? Let's get the heavens to move. So Mordecai. Esther said in verse 16. That's the key text now. Esther said.

[39:55] Go. Gather the Jews who are present in Shushan. And fast for me. Neither eat nor drink for three days or three nights. My maids and I will fast likewise.

[40:08] And so I will go to the king. Which is against the law. But after a fast. I'm going to go against the law to the king. But after a fast.

[40:21] And he said. If I perish. I perish. You can't perish after a fast. Yeah. Your family will not perish after a fast.

[40:37] So fasting turns the heavens in your favor. That's the next point. Fasting will turn the heavens in your favor. Say turn it Lord.

[40:47] Turn it Lord. Don't say it if you don't intend to fast. Say turn it Lord. Turn it Lord. Turn the heavens in my favor. Turn the heavens in my favor. Wow.

[40:58] Number five. Fasting subdues the flesh. You are too fleshly. Fleshly. You are always sinning. You are always missing God.

[41:09] You are always praying. Fasting has a way. That's why I said in fasting and sacral. It has a way of subduing. Suppressing. Bringing the flesh under subjection for a while. So that you can give yourself to some things for a certain period.

[41:23] Because when you want to do some things. You really need to subject yourself under some. Subject the flesh. Especially when it's like a specific assignment and a specific season.

[41:34] It's like you are going to write a professional exam in the next week. You have to subject your desire for watching movies on end. At night. You have to suppress it. Deal with it. Other than that you will fail the exam.

[41:46] Deal with it. So. Fasting. Can you imagine. In Luke chapter 4 verse 1 and 2. I want to show you something. Put it on the screen please. Luke chapter 4 verse 1 and 2. The Bible talks about how Jesus was.

[41:58] And Jesus being filled with the Holy Spirit. Returned from Jordan. And was led by the Spirit into the world. That is the next verse. He was led by the Spirit. Being tempted 40 days and 40 nights.

[42:08] And in those days he ate nothing. And afterwards when he was hungry. So when he was being tempted. What was he doing? He was fasting. Because he had to subdue the flesh.

[42:20] So that Satan would not use the flesh against him. So whilst the temptation was going on. He was also fasting. So he was not overcoming the temptation through fasting. But he was fasting to subdue the flesh.

[42:32] So that he can operate freely without undue interference from the flesh. Am I making the point? So sometimes you have to find. You see when you are fasting.

[42:43] Sometimes all those unnecessary desires. Unnecessary desires. And unnecessary scrabbles. And unnecessary passions get subdued.

[42:56] So at least you can give your focus to the mission. So fasting subdues the flesh. Let's all say fasting subdues the flesh. Fasting subdues the flesh.

[43:06] And then last one I want to give you on this point is. Fasting is empowerment to step into. Step and flow in the divine assignment.

[43:17] You are empowered. Luke chapter 4 verse 14. The same Luke chapter 4. When you look at verse 14. Then Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit. Look at verse 1. Verse 1.

[43:29] Luke 14. Luke 14. One. So Luke 4. One. Jesus being filled with the Holy. What was he? He was filled with the Holy Spirit. Returned from the Jordan. And was led by the Spirit into the wilderness.

[43:39] The Bible said there he fasted. Now let's see when he was coming out. When he went. He was filled with the Holy Spirit. But let's see when he was coming out. Verse 14. And Jesus returned from the wilderness. And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit.

[43:51] He went full of the Spirit. But he returned in the power of the Spirit. That is when he started his assignment. read it the next bible says that and look at the next verse oh no maybe there right there it says and news of him went out all throughout the region why they didn't know before he came in the power no one knew about him all they knew about him was he was a carpenter but when he came out in the power of the holy spirit they knew that this man has special grace of god upon his life after this fasting it will be said by your loved ones your enemies and your friends that the power of god is upon your life in the name of jesus now quickly in the next 10 minutes let me give you this what do you do when you are fasting how do you fast this is important all right what do you do when you are fasting so okay i should doesn't mean i should go away i should stay away from food for how long for when how do i go about it somebody sent me a message i hear we are fasting six to six no it's not six it's you wake up from the day when you start the day and until the time we are all breaking all right if you want to go throughout the 30 days without breaking um that's okay but make sure you've got a strength for it you've got a strength for it make sure you're not a nursing mother okay make sure uh the kind of work you do is not tasking both on the mind or physically make sure you are not working yeah you can't fast for you can't fast for 10 days and go to work i mean i mean raw without food without food for 10 days you'll be so weak that we have to carry you and they have to you can't work they'll sacrifice you lose your job all right so you do this is a fasting it's like day by day fasting we break after 6 p.m you can have something some food and then at least you are refreshed and a little bit more nourished for the next day this season some of you the weight you have been trying to lose is coming amen you're about to lose more weight amen all right so quickly quickly how do i fast so that the fasting is fasting and not starvation okay what what how do i go about the first number one i think i didn't actually want to add the number one but just for the benefit of doubt let me add don't fasting means without food and without drink that's why we have breakfast okay breakfast because when you are sleeping you are not eating you don't eat i know some of you wake up to eat yeah you wake up so number one is abstinence from food and drink so food and drink when you are fasting that means you are not eating you can't be eating and say i'm fasting okay number two number two okay i know somebody said i'm fasting facebook this is not the kind of fasting i'm talking about that's not the kind of time i'm this one we are talking about food and drink regular nourishment for the body all right and number two start your day in prayer and pray regularly at every instant when the opportunity arises so don't at work let's say you work at the till or you are the bank you are a cashier people are coming to cash money you are sitting there please please please please so but pray regularly sometimes usually your lunch time you go out with your friends but now lunch time you are not going to eat so you can excuse yourself go somewhere and just any opportunity you get just pray i pray regularly all right pray regularly but this is a non-negotiable one start your day in prayer all right start your commit your day to god it doesn't have to be two

[47:56] hours of prayer it doesn't necessarily have to be 30 minutes of prayer one hour is ideal but maybe your particular situation you have to wake up do this and do that and time you leave home we have to be contextual okay we have to understand your lifetime within the context so but try make time to pray and don't make time to buy father father you know everything i have to say bye see you later that's not the kind of prayer i'm talking about go on your knees we have prayer topics in the bulletin or the fasting guide use those prayer topics pray targeted prayers pray targeted prayers spend at least 30 minutes if you can and every morning we pray anyway telephone take advantage of that for one hour 6 a.m to 7 every morning take advantage of that but make sure you pray start your day in prayer number three feed your spirit feed your spirit how do you feed your spirit read the bible don't be fasting and you are not reading my pastor usually i don't even know where to read there's a lot to read on the daily bulletin all right daily prayer guide there's a lot of scriptures so we give prayer topics and we give scriptural references so you can read as well so read see reading is not just to this christian reading the bible is not a mental activity it's a spiritual activity john 4 4 sorry matthew 4 4 man must not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth so we live to eat we feed on god's word we are not reading god's word just for intellectual exercise or theological um understanding we are reading to feed the word of god is first of all for feeding before for education okay the word of god is first of all for feeding so get to the word always read something read the scriptures we have given if you don't know what to read just read and then as i preach i've quoted a few scriptures write them down read something read the word all right but read it start the word in prayer start the day in prayer feed your spirit by reading the word or listen to preaching messages we have a there's a plethora of messages online you can access or via the app listen to it whilst you're on the train be listening whilst you're on the bus be listening whilst you're driving be listening whilst you are doing something that does not require mental concentration so much concentration maybe uh if you are not if you are writing letters and essays i think you can't be listening some people are even good with that but let let a message be playing in the background or play messages feed your spirit that's how you keep your spirit strong by the word of god any spirit anyone who is not receiving the word of god it doesn't matter how much you pray your spirit is very weak your prayer is ineffective so what gives you spiritual class is the word how much word is getting into your system and please as you are denying your physical body nourish regular knowledge nourishment take advantage and supply more nourishment into your spirits and a well-to-do and a healthy spirit will help keep your body well amen amen all right so that's how by listening read the word listen to the messages or sometimes the bible on tape now it's easy to get um electronic bible be playing all right plates and just be listening to it it's very helpful or listen to the preaching messages and then or read materials christian materials read please i didn't talk about music i'm talking about the word okay no so but there's a lot of word in the music i'm listening to just read the word here the way i'm not saying don't listen to music but what i'm talking about is reading the word and hearing the word somewhere later you can be listening to music you know just to keep you lightened but this one you are feeding your spirits concentrate or something

[51:59] get something to go in all right and then later you can be if you when you are reading your bible you can be playing music in the background play your music a godly music of course number four i like this point very much the sister's testimony was beautiful our sister said she was being she's a professional nanny believing god for a job for a while and she just stepped out in faith she stepped out in faith and put her cv somewhere there and and then he said instantly there was a reaction i've forgotten the details of the testament but she i what i remember she just took a step no and saw a seed in church she took a step and said god i'm believing for a job so i'm going to give you a special offering she gave my faith and she got a job instantly or right afterwards she got a job someone did you say someone called her or a couple called her said do you want you know faith works someone say faith works can you help me not somebody or shake the other person faith works so walk in faith stay in faith if you are fasting please be in faith keep believing god trust in god don't be fasting and well i don't know and if you are going to walk in faith if you're going to walk in faith that means you have to take faith steps some of you join this fasting go again meet that girl propose to her tell her would you be my wife i want you to be my tell her send another application take some steps believing that this will work call that company again tell them i think you made a mistake by not offering me the job can you reconsider your decision yes yes yes yes yes take some steps of faith start that business send in the application take some steps of faith when you hear something that is preached from god's word act on it act on it that's actually fit act on what you are hearing don't just say i'm fasting you are living a normal life start acting on the word of god start acting if there's some pain in your body keep doing what you didn't you couldn't do knowing that i'm healing and believe god act start step take steps of faith so to take steps of faith you act in faith in an accordance with god's word and then number two you speak god's word don't keep saying the negative things that god hasn't said don't keep repeating what we all know is there say what god has said which you expect to see so faith is what you how you act and what you what you say so you can't say you are working in faith without saying something in faith so you step in step out in faith and confession faith confession that's how to work in faith so when you are fasting people must see that your activity your approach to life has changed your outlook on life has changed the way you are responding has changed the way you are doing things has changed because you are now a woman of faith and you actually you are actually taking faith steps you'll be shocked what this fasting will do for you shout hallelujah number five oh i like this point this is a very strong point very strong point most of us are not very much aware now love compassion and mercy let's all say that together some of us are naturally let me use this one biologically naturally mean actually you get you get kicks and you get excited when you are mean everybody knows you and you you are not ashamed of you know that's how i am you have the food your friend is so starving you keep you stop
