[0:00] Welcome. Thank you for choosing to listen to another word-filled message by David Entry. Preaching is the means by which God manifests His word and nourishes our spirits. May the life of God enter into you and you as you listen to this message. Be blessed.
[0:15] I want to talk about the Christian prayer because it is... Why are we here tonight? We are not here to come and fast. How many of you know that? We are not here to... because some of you have eaten.
[0:28] That's why you're having me sleepy on me. Hey! Some of you have eaten already. Many of us. At least maybe some snack or something.
[0:40] So there's nothing wrong with it. But so we are not here to fast. So why are we gathering here? We have done the fasting on the day already. Why are we here then? Maybe the 12 midday prayers during the fasting. That's fine.
[0:54] Maybe the 6 a.m. prayers. That's fine. But we are finished. What are we here doing? Why are we gathering here? Because we are not here to fast. But we are here to pray.
[1:06] And to be in a certain atmosphere. Because your fasting shifts you in a place to a certain level. In a certain realm where receptivity is high.
[1:16] You can easily catch something. And when the congregation of God meets, he guarantees his presence in a unique way. Which he has never guaranteed anyway. So that's why you don't joke with congregational prayers and meetings.
[1:28] And so it is necessary for me to take time to talk about prayers. There are some of you here. You've heard me teach on some of these things already.
[1:39] But it's not a problem at all. And some of you have never heard even some of the things that we are going to be teaching on prayer. So then if fasting goes with prayer, it's good to be informed about what prayer should be.
[1:53] Because as I said, Christian prayer is distinctive. Yesterday I said that Christian prayer is unique. Listen, I cannot have a prayer meeting with a Muslim.
[2:06] How possible is this? What prayer is to him is different. I cannot have a prayer meeting with a Buddhist. I say, oh, don't worry.
[2:16] Let's all come together because we are all religious. Let's all come together. You don't understand. The Christian prayer is different. Yesterday I said, what makes it distinctive, one of the things is that God our Father.
[2:30] No body prays to God as Father. We pray to God as Father. And the core thing is the fatherhood of God and the faith in our prayers. It changes everything.
[2:42] Today I want to let you know, one of the major things that distinguishes Christianity from every other religion or any other thing you call religion, for that matter, is also distinguish our prayers from all the other prayers, is the Jesus factor.
[3:00] All the other prayers don't have Jesus. The Christian prayer is the only prayer that has Jesus. The Jesus in Christianity is what makes it different from every other so-called religion.
[3:17] So it's Jesus. Somebody say Jesus. Jesus. All right. I always want to read a text before I go on.
[3:28] I don't have much time because I'm trusting God I can wrap up quickly so we can pray. I want us really to pray. And today we have to pray. One of the major prayer topics is we will be praying for health and praying for the sick.
[3:44] Matthew chapter 6 verse 5. It says that, And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men.
[4:03] Verily I say unto you, they have their reward. But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet. And when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy father which sees in secret.
[4:13] And thy father which sees in secret shall reward you openly. But when ye pray, use not vain repetition as the heathen do. For they think they shall be heard, for they are much speaking.
[4:28] Be not ye therefore like unto them. For your father knows, knoweth, what things ye have need of before ye ask him.
[4:44] After this manner therefore pray, Our father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.
[4:57] And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever.
[5:09] Amen. This is a whole teaching on prayer. What makes Christian prayer very exclusive and completely different from every other prayer?
[5:27] Is Jesus. Is Jesus. And five things concerning Jesus that make our prayers different. Five things. So long as Jesus is concerned. That make every Christian prayer different.
[5:40] Number one. Is the teachings of Jesus. Number two. Is the example of Jesus.
[5:51] Examples of Jesus. Number three. Number three. Is the blood of Jesus. Number four. It is the intercession of Jesus.
[6:04] And number five. It is the name of Jesus. In French we say, Honor de Jesus. In the name of Jesus. That's how we say it in French. Honor de Jesus.
[6:16] Two. So number one. Is the teachings of Jesus. To abide by. The examples of Jesus. To follow.
[6:27] The blood of Jesus. To apply. The intercession of Jesus. To rely on. And the name of Jesus. To use. I thought you said it.
[6:38] Hallelujah. Hallelujah. That's what makes our prayers different. That's what makes our prayers different. So then.
[6:49] Every prayer you pray. Must be in line with these things. These five things I've said. And it makes our prayers different. Number one. The teachings of Jesus.
[7:02] The teachings of Jesus. Jesus. In Luke chapter. Eleven. Disciples came. And said. Teach us. To pray. He actually.
[7:12] Thought. Watch this. Jesus actually. Thought on prayer. And that's good news. He actually. Thought on prayer. Actually. Every religious leader.
[7:22] Teaches his people. How to pray. Every religious leader. Buddha. Thought. Thoughts the. Buddhists. How to pray. Mohammed. Thoughts the. Muslims. How to pray.
[7:34] Moses actually. Thought the people. How to pray. Every religious leader. Teaches the people. How to pray. But Jesus. Didn't. Until they came to him. And asked him. Teach us to pray.
[7:45] And. Jesus. Didn't write a book. On prayer. Or his teaching on prayer. Was not like. Today I'm teaching on prayer. And that's it. His teaching on prayer.
[7:56] Is in. A lot of areas. So it's not only one place. But in other places as well. So Jesus. His teachings. On prayer. He taught us.
[8:07] How. To pray. And. Not only. How. To pray. He also. Taught us. What to pray for. So Jesus.
[8:18] Taught us. How to pray. He taught us. How. We should pray. Seven things. Jesus. Implied. And taught.
[8:29] On. How we should pray. How did Jesus. Teach us to pray. Number one. Our prayer. We should. Jesus taught us.
[8:39] To pray. With. Sincerity. Sincerity. What does that mean. To pray with sincerity.
[8:50] You start praying. Some people. You know. Many people in church. Are not sincere. With their prayers. They are not sincere. With their prayers. They pray.
[9:01] You know. So people. Who see them. They pray. Jesus. But usually. There are some people. You see. Kneeling down quietly. So they even cry. Jesus. This case.
[9:12] That has happened. That is different. There is some sincerity. They said. When you are praying. There should be sincerity. Not.
[9:23] Prayer. Is not. A box. To take. Or. you see our prayer life should not be more of a routine, not a routine, like a formality to follow.
[9:42] Prayer life should be more practicing the presence of God. That's what I was talking about, actually the pursuit. The focus is more on a certain relationship and flowing with God than, okay, what should I say now?
[9:55] Okay, I've done this one. No, no, no, no, no. So, in every prayer, the prayer we should pray should be a prayer of sincerity. Pray, be real.
[10:11] You don't have to be using, thou, oh Lord, are the greatest of all the mighties. And it doesn't actually mean anything to you. What you are saying, it didn't really, it's just using words.
[10:23] Oh, thou, oh Lord Jesus. First, it was a fragrance. Then it turns to fire. Boy, it doesn't mean anything to you. Yeah, you see words. Lord, I pray according to the throne room perspective.
[10:37] Based on the auspices and the legalities and the technicalities of your goodness.
[10:51] So, it makes you look very powerful. And we tend to pray like that in public more. There's no sincerity.
[11:02] You're not being real. When you are praying, be so, be so, be so real and sincere. Talk to God.
[11:12] When you are praying, you have to, Jesus, man, Jesus, I just don't understand what's going on.
[11:25] I really didn't like the way my mother was talking. But because of you. Talk to me. Talk to me. Come on. Be real. Sincerity.
[11:37] And there should be simplicity. Not all these big, big, big words. Oh, Lord. You are the Magister Veritatis. Sometimes you won't.
[11:59] There should be a certain level of simplicity. He said, don't think you'll be heard because of your much speaking. Matthew chapter 6.
[12:10] We just read it. They think they'll be heard because of their much speakings. It's not the plain speaking that guarantees heaven's attention.
[12:24] So, number one, it should be with sincerity. Number two, it should be with simplicity. Number three, it should be with humility. Don't think that God owes you an answer.
[12:37] God. Someone went to the temple to go and pray. Luke chapter 18. He said, God. He went to the front. He said, God. Me. I pay tithe. Me. I do this.
[12:47] I sing praise and worship. Me. I'm always in church. Me. I don't fight with worship. Me. It's all about me, me, me, me, me, me. I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I.
[13:00] Bible said, Jesus said, he prayed thus with himself. His prayer was all about him. Francis went there. I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I am not like other men, Stouchna and Jazar, even, even this.
[13:15] Yeah. So, the Francis stood and prayed thus with himself. It's about himself. Pride. Felt very good. The other guy couldn't come to the front.
[13:27] He was standing at the back there. So this guy, when he finished praying, the wife was too good about it. When he went to me, his wife asked him, when I was at prayer meeting, he said, it was powerful.
[13:38] I prayed. The other guy came. He couldn't come to the front. He stood at the back there. He was broken. He said, Lord, have mercy on me.
[13:51] Psalm 51. The Bible says that God likes a contrite and a broken spirit. A contrite heart. Psalm 51. He said, what you desire is a contrite heart.
[14:03] He says that the sacrifice of God, a broken spirit and a broken and a contrite heart, oh God, that will not despise. That's why it's good you messed up.
[14:18] It's good you messed up. I'm not saying we messed up. But some of you, what you did, he humbled you in church. Yeah. He humbled you.
[14:30] Because you thought as for you are better than everybody. But it really has humbled you. Now you are very humble. Very humble. So some things, sometimes, this guy was so broken.
[14:45] He said, God, humility. Come to God with humility. Don't come and look like, there are people who make an altar call. They know God is calling them, but they won't come. And so they believe God too.
[14:56] God, you come. Come where I am. I can't go to the front like that. Is someone learning something? Humility. I don't have time because we have to pray.
[15:09] So, how did Jesus teach us to pray? Sincerity. Simplicity. Humility. Intensity. Intensity.
[15:22] That's what I was trying to describe when you are pursuing God. You don't easily get distracted. Some people, when they are praying, but when they ask them to lead prayer, it's different.
[15:43] That's when they are on fire. When you are asked to lead prayer in your department, this is how you did it. Very much on fire. But when you come in your department, and it's roaming at the back.
[15:59] Some people on purpose will never come early. When he comes and they are praying, they sit down and they say, oh, this guy Christ, he's taking the prayers too long. The prayer is, you just start now. It's getting boring for me.
[16:18] There should be intensity. Intensity is not so much detail. determined by how long, or how much you are prayed, but how deep.
[16:31] You are going focused and deep. God, I believe in you. Sometimes you are praying, and 10 minutes has passed, you didn't realize it. Intensity.
[16:42] The effectual, effective, fervent. Not the fervency. Fervency. Romans chapter 12, where it talks about, verse 11 and verse 12.
[16:55] Romans chapter, yeah, verse 11, not slothfully business, fervent in spirit serving the Lord. Fervency. That's the fervency. Intensity.
[17:06] You don't pray casually, because casual prayers, get casual answers. See how nice prayer?
[17:17] It has prayer. Jesus Christ, could pray, and his sweat were like, blood. Intensity. Intensity. Sometimes not the animation, that determines the intensity.
[17:33] Somebody say intensity. And then number, five, tenacity. Don't pray today and stop. Pray once and stop it.
[17:46] Continue. Continue always in prayer. Continue. There must be tenacity. Jesus told the whole parable, to show us how, we should be tenacious in our prayer. Luke chapter 18, from verse 1.
[18:01] So, there must be, tenacity. These are the things, Jesus taught, on prayer. Tenacity. You are not giving up. You haven't, you're still pushing, persevering.
[18:16] Hallelujah. And then, the last two. Christian prayers, Jesus taught us, that our prayers, should be, with charity.
[18:30] Sincerity. Simplicity. Intensity. Humility. Tenacity. Charity.
[18:43] Look at what he said. He said, forgive us, as we forgive others. You have love for God, you have love for people. Sometimes, you feel for people, when you pray.
[18:55] There must be, a certain care, about people, in your heart, when you also pray to God. There must be, some care. There must be, there shouldn't be a time, you finish prayer, and you are now going to, fight this person.
[19:10] I just, I was waiting, you let me finish, church and come. I'm going to, really fight, because he ate your banana. Hallelujah. Hallelujah.
[19:33] And the last one, how did Jesus teach us to pray? With, unanimity. Unanimous, unanimity is like, there should be some agreement.
[19:50] He said, when two or, if two or three, shall touch on something, unanimity. Have you heard, I heard unanimous. What's the meaning of that?
[20:02] The unanimous, he voted, him as president. Yeah. So, unanimity. It's, it's, we are on the same page. Our father. You must agree with someone.
[20:14] That's why sometimes, you come to church, we are all praying on, on, so corporate prayers. And, sometimes, someone is, you have agreed with someone, let's, let's take prayer on this matter.
[20:26] Can you imagine, Jesus said, if two, Matthew 18, from verse 20 or so, touching, is the verse 19. Again, I said to you, if two of you, shall agree on earth, as touching anything, that, that they shall ask, it shall be done for them, of my father.
[20:45] He's in heaven. Unanimity. He taught, he taught us that. I'll continue tomorrow, about, he taught us, didn't he only teach us, how to pray, but what to pray for.
[21:02] What should we be praying for? And then after that, I'll then, we'll go on to talk about, the examples of Jesus.
[21:17] Then we'll go on, the blood of Jesus, that makes our prayers different. Then we'll go on, the intercession of Jesus. Then we'll go on the, the name of Jesus. Hallelujah.
