Put On The New Man

[0:13] Let's turn to Ephesians chapter 4 verse 21. Verse 20. But ye have not so learnt Christ, if so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him as the truth is in Jesus, that he put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lust, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

[1:02] Therefore, putting away lying, speaking every man truth with his neighbour, for we are members one of another.

[1:14] Here ends the reading of God's word. Amen. Hallelujah. If you are born again, you have to put off something.

[1:25] God will not put it off for you. You have to do the putting off. So we saw that we are supposed to put off concerning our former conduct.

[1:39] The old man. Everybody has got an old man. So it's not old lady. Old man, that's your old person.

[1:50] When we talk about old person, it's not talking about age. But it's old because something new has come.

[2:05] Because of the new thing that has come, it has automatically given rise to the old. And so he said, now you have to put on a put off concerning your former conduct.

[2:22] The old man, which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lust. And I explained that it doesn't get better.

[2:34] Life continues to deteriorate outside of Christ. By nature.

[2:45] You are growing older and older and your old man is becoming stronger and stronger. So when you are born again, you now have to put off the old man.

[2:58] Romans chapter 6 verse 6 says that knowing this, that the old man, the old man, when you are born again, the old man is only good for crucifixion.

[3:11] Knowing this, that the old man was crucified with Jesus, that the body of sin might be done away with.

[3:24] And so you need to put away this old man with his corruption. The old man that does not help us to love God. The human nature naturally does not love God.

[3:38] Love for God is not natural. Love for God is heavily induced. The Bible talks about Romans chapter 5 verse 5. How the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts.

[3:53] How? By the Holy Spirit. It says that for the, because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit, which is given to us.

[4:06] So the love of God is not naturally repository in us. It says that when you come to Jesus, the Holy Spirit sheds abroad.

[4:16] It's like it's pumping love of God in your hearts. And so loving God is not natural. You, there's no human being who can be able to love God outside of Christ or outside of the life of Christ that is given to us.

[4:37] Because the fallen man will not seek God, will not love God. Praise the Lord. That's why the Bible says that the natural man is enmity against God.

[4:52] Just to be natural. So those of us who just like, they ask for me. That ask for me thing. That ask for me. It should be ask for your new man created in Christ Jesus.

[5:03] Because ask for me this is how I am. This is how I am. That's why you cannot enjoy God. For it says that, because the carnal man, mind, is enmity against God for it's no subject.

[5:16] I'll give a different translation and a new American standard version. Because the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile. It's hostile against God.

[5:28] Verse 6. Verse 6. For the mind set on the flesh is dead. The mind set on the spirit is life and peace.

[5:41] King James. He said that, to be carnally minded is death, but spiritually minded is life and peace. Verse 7.

[5:52] For, because the carnal mind is enmity against God. For it is not subject to the law of God. Neither indeed it cannot. It cannot.

[6:03] The natural mind. So the more carnal, the natural we think, just me, and outside of the life that we get from God, the more we stay far or we move farther away from God.

[6:22] So we can see from Ephesians, the text we read, it said, put off your old man. Daddy, put off the old Ephesians chapter. Verse 23. Let's go to verse 22.

[6:36] That you put off concerning your former conduct, the old man, which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lust. That's not all we are supposed to do.

[6:47] You put off the old man, but the next verse continues. It said, and then you are renewed in the spirit of your mind.

[6:59] Wow. We are strong. In Titus chapter 3, verse 5. In Titus chapter 3, verse 5 says, We have been saved not by the works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy, he saved us through the washing of regeneration.

[7:23] And what? Renewing. Something gets made new. Now, renewing here is not talking about, this is very important.

[7:35] It's not talking about something old that has been revived. Renewing here is talking about something new that has been added.

[7:47] That's very important. That's very important. So when you study scripture and when we talk about new life or newness, the new man, which will go on in a minute. The new man is not new because it has been rebirthed, but there's some newness in you because of the...

[8:08] That's interesting. Really, can I tell you something? How many testaments do we have in the Bible? What? Old and new. What? Old and new.

[8:19] Are you sure? Two testaments. Two testaments. Two testaments. What's the first one? Old testaments. What testament? Old testaments. What testament? Old testaments. Ah.

[8:30] How about the other one? New testaments. So what's the difference between the testaments? Old and new. Old and new. Really, new is not an Old Testament word.

[8:43] New is not a matter of time because, okay, after a time, it's not a process of time, but it has new...

[8:58] It's not an Old Testament word. New is a New Testament word. And it's not a matter of time. Because, okay, after a time, it's not a process of time, but it has new, newness has to do with introduction of a nature.

[9:17] So when you study the New Testament, you come across the word new, new, new. If anyone be Christ, it's a new creation. New, new, new. A lot of it in Hebrews, everywhere, new. So now it says that you'll be renewed.

[9:31] Renewal there means it's the same as being transformed, being changed. By virtue of that life of God that has been introduced to you, it's first of all, watch this, the life of God is introduced into your spirit.

[9:51] And then from your spirit, it rises to work. Let's look at that text again. Ephesians 4, 23.

[10:02] That's already out. Let's go. Let's read it again. Be renewed. Be renewed. Be renewed. Be renewed.

[10:13] Be renewed. Be renewed. Be renewed. Be renewed. Be renewed. Be renewed. Be renewed. Because the newness starts from your spirit. So it is the spirit of your mind.

[10:24] And now, when we talk about your mind, your mind is the leading part of your soul. You remember when I was explaining the soul? So in your soul, you have your mind, your emotions, and your will.

[10:40] Okay? Or your thinking, your feelings, and your intellect. This is what is called the soul of a man. So these are the aspects of your soul.

[10:52] Your thinking, which is your mind, your feelings, which is your emotions, and your intellect, which is your will. Are you getting it?

[11:05] Now, he says that, receive with meekness the engrafted word of God, which is able to save your soul.

[11:19] Okay? What are the three components of your soul? Your mind, your emotions, and your will. Intellect, same. Right? And then this is your body.

[11:30] So when you see people, you only see their body. You make friends based on people's soul. That's why you're able to talk to him or talk to her.

[11:43] You can laugh. The way she makes you laugh. The way he... Some ladies, when they are thinking of someone tomorrow, they say, I want someone who makes me laugh. Go and get a comedian.

[11:55] Life is more serious than looking for someone. You need someone who has a job. It makes a big difference.

[12:06] Okay? Okay. Okay. Okay. Your spirit. Your spirit. When you get born again, the Holy Spirit indwells your spirit. That's where your spirit...

[12:18] Your spirit is linked to your soul. That is why your body is the slave to either your soul or your spirit. So Galatians chapter 5, it says that, walk in the spirit so you not fulfill the desires of the flesh.

[12:33] The flesh is the seat of your personality, which is usually in your soul. Your soul is not the flesh, but the expression of your flesh, it comes through your soul. So in Romans chapter 12, verse 2, it says, Be ye transformed.

[12:48] You are born again already, but you need to be transformed. How? By what? By the... Does that word sound familiar? Efficient. Renewing.

[13:00] So your mind... Excuse me. Your mind is the leading part of your soul. What happens to your mind, it will affect your emotions and affect your will.

[13:15] That is why if God is going to really change your life, it has a lot to do with what is happening to your mind. And so the spirit is linked to your soul.

[13:26] And when the Holy Spirit is going to work in you, it starts with the leading part of your soul. That is why it said, Be ye renewed in the spirit of your mind.

[13:38] Does that make sense? So if your mind is okay, your soul will follow. That are your intellect and your feelings.

[13:51] The way you think is influencing the way you are feeling. The way you think is affecting the decisions you are making. If you have sanctified thinking, you produce sanctified behavior.

[14:06] If you have stinking thinking, you produce stinking behavior. That's why the mind is such an important aspect.

[14:20] So he said, Be ye, Romans 12, 2, be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind. If your mind can be renewed.

[14:31] If your mind can be renewed. Renew, as I told you, is not just changing, but a new thing. Something of Christ has been introduced, which begins to affect the entirety of the mind.

[14:45] So he said, Be ye renewed in the spirit of your mind. Let's look at Ephesians again. Ephesians chapter 4, 23.

[14:58] Let's all read here from the screen. Let's go. Louder, please. So you remember where the conversation starts.

[15:09] It says that you put off concerning the former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind.

[15:24] So it's not a one-way thing. You put off, but you also allow yourself to be renewed. He said, And I put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge.

[15:35] Say knowledge. Where does knowledge occur? In your... Do you see that? Do you see that? So he said, Make sure you put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of Christ.

[15:53] I'll just paraphrase it. Him that created him is Christ. Okay. So, New King James, please. You see the hymn there?

[16:06] The first hymn is Christ. The second hymn is the mind. Be renewed. So, put on the new man, which is being...

[16:19] That new man is the second hymn. Put on the new man, new man, which is being renewed in the knowledge... Sorry, in knowledge, according to the image of Christ, who created the new man.

[16:35] The new man is a creation of Christ. Anyone who is not born again has not got a new man. Are you getting it? Anyone who is not born again has not got a new man.

[16:45] So it's quite an exercise in futility to expect an unbeliever to live according to the standards of God. At best, it's religion you are trying to introduce the person to.

[16:59] Trying to introduce somebody to religion, to live according to the standards of God. And religion doesn't solve problems. It rather creates problems. But the life of God, the life of God, makes you even know some things that naturally is not easy to know.

[17:19] So, we can see from this text, and Colossians chapter, please put it back on the screen. We can see from this text that renewal, putting on the new man, is based on how it's renewed.

[17:34] The new man is renewed based on the knowledge. Of knowledge of who? Of Christ. So, renewed according to knowledge, according to the image of, the knowledge is according to the image of Christ.

[17:49] Now, this brings me to, it really suggests to me, or draws my attention to 2 Corinthians chapter 3, verse 18. Let's already, let's go.

[18:02] with unveiled faces, beholding us in a mirror, the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image.

[18:13] Praise the glory, just as I say. Oh. We are, with unveiled faces, when you are not born again, your face is veiled.

[18:24] We are, with unveiled faces, beholding us in a mirror. What are we beholding? The glory of the Lord are being changed into the same image.

[18:39] This is the image of Christ. So, the more you are knowing Jesus, you are being introduced to the glory of God, and then your life is, you are being changed. The Greek word transformed, translated, being transformed, is the same Greek word we saw in, be transformed.

[18:58] Don't not be conformed. Romans chapter 12, verse 2. Romans chapter 12, verse 2 says that, that you, don't be conformed to the word, but be transformed. See the transformation? Romans chapter 12 says, transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may be able to prove what is, that you may prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

[19:21] So, be transformed by the renewing of your mind. In, in 2 Corinthians, it says that, we, as we behold the, in the, the glory of God as in the mirror, we are being transformed into the same image.

[19:36] And Colossians, we also saw that the, we are renewed, put on the new man, which is renewed after, in knowledge, according, renewed in knowledge, according to the image.

[19:47] So, you can see that, this whole thing is about, how more, how much Christ you are seeing, it gives you the ability for you, your transformation process to go on.

[20:00] You cannot be transformed outside of Christ. That's why it's so important that, when you read your Bible, look for Christ. When we are teaching, we have to make sure that it's Christ we are projecting. But when Christ is taught, people can be renewed.

[20:13] When Christ, Christ is taught, people can be transformed. So, back to Ephesians chapter 4 again, and it says that, I was telling you that what we have learned, you have not so, who being past, feeling has given themselves, verse 19, verse 20, but you have not so learned of Christ, so learned Christ, if so be that you have heard of him, you have heard him and have been taught by him as the truth is in Christ.

[20:39] What have we been taught? That we put off concerning the former conversation, the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lust, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind.

[20:52] The next verse says that, and that he put on, so you put off the old man, be renewed in your spirit of your mind so that he put on the new man.

[21:04] Somebody say the new man. The new man. Say it again, the new man. The new man. Who is this new man? Let's go to Colossians chapter 3, verse 10 again.

[21:19] Thanks be to God. Hallelujah. Colossians chapter 3, verse 10, it says that, and I put on the new man who is renewed.

[21:38] The new man is renewed in knowledge according to the image of him who created him. The new man is renewed in knowledge of, according to the knowledge of him who created him.

[21:52] We have to put on the new man. The new man, how, how is the new man created, is renewed according to the knowledge. The more you are knowing Jesus, the new man is being renewed.

[22:05] The new man who is renewed. The new man who is renewed. Now, Ephesians chapter 2, verse 15, talks about how he himself abolished in his flesh the enmity that is the law of commandment contained in the ordinance so as to create in himself.

[22:25] So when you are born again, the life of Christ that is introduced into you, that's what makes you part of the church. And that, all, all of the church is called the one new man.

[22:38] So there is a dimension of the new man in every believer. But then, that's redemption. Do you understand what I'm saying? I think I have to calm down. Okay, you let me wait.

[22:50] I'll calm down. I want you to, I want to take my time because every time we get very excited about this one. that another, I taught you this, another phrase for the church or portrait of the church in the New Testament is the new man.

[23:14] So Christ, so as to create, that's Christ, he created in himself one new man from the two. No, no, this is not just talking about you. Remember the two?

[23:25] What are the two? The Jews and Gentiles. So, he took the Jews, he took Gentiles, he himself is the bonding agent. Okay, because he himself is our peace.

[23:37] Him. And, I don't like preaching and going to stay in Ephesians because it will take, it will dominate all the preaching. But you guys are trying to tempt me to just sink my teeth into Ephesians.

[23:56] Just this text. Jesus Christ having abolished the enmity, that's the law of commandments because the Jews had laws, these are the Jews, laws that tells you they can't mingle with Gentiles.

[24:08] So, Peter went to the house of Cornelius and he went to eat. He went to eat Peter and not just preach, eat. And so, the Jews said, you went to a Gentile's house, chapter 11, verse 2, 3, you went to a Gentile's house and you went and ate with them.

[24:27] Peter! He said, no, it's not about that. Jews and Gentiles are not supposed to mingle. And now, Jesus Christ abolished that law because it was valid before God.

[24:40] That law is not from Moses, it's from God. It's God's ceremonial law he gave to the Jews that for you to remain my people, don't mingle with Gentiles.

[24:52] But now, God has called both Gentiles and Jews into one church. but so long as the Jews consent, there's a law from God. So, Jesus Christ had to abolish that ceremonial law, not moral law.

[25:08] It was rituals, ceremonial law. Jesus, that's why he said, he himself, he said, having abolished in his flesh the enmity. So, when he went to the cross, he was abolishing, he was paying the price to abolish that enmity that existed by virtue of the law of commandments contained in the ordinances.

[25:30] So, when he abolished it, he didn't leave it there. Why did he abolish so as to create inside his sphere of creation? Not outside of him who, outside of him you have United Nations who are divided.

[25:46] But inside of him we have the church which has oneness. so as to create in himself. The Greek word translated in also means with.

[26:00] So, he created sphere in himself and what is the creating material? With himself. So, the church, every fabric of the church is really Christ.

[26:12] So, as to create in himself one, to create in himself one new man from the two. the church is called one new man.

[26:25] You can't say this is Jew, this is Gentile, this is black, this is white, this is Asian, this is Arabian, this is Jamaican, this is African, this is European, this is America.

[26:38] it doesn't exist in the church because grace trumps race. To create in himself one new man from the two.

[26:52] Who are the two? I've talked already. Those who have the law of God and the oracles of God and have had dealings with God and those who don't. so long as God is concerned in the Old Testament, there are only two races, the Jews and the rest.

[27:07] And now, Jesus Christ came because, Pastor, God told Abraham, in you shall all the families, not only Jews, all the families of the earth shall be blessed.

[27:19] So, God was not only, like this, God is not only the God of the Jews. God is not only the God of the Jews. He is the God of the church.

[27:29] He is the God of the church. He is the God. And the church is made up of Jews and Gentiles, women and men, boys and girls, young and old, dead or alive.

[27:43] Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! For, to create, having abolished in his flesh the enmity, that the law of commandment contains ordinance, so as to create in himself one new, one new man from the two, thus making peace.

[28:08] And then, he tells you, remember, and he presented the two. He says, that he might reconcile both to God in one body. Wow! And what's that body?

[28:19] The church. The body of Christ. So, in the church, we are all one in the church. Colossians chapter, I think chapter 3, verse 11. Look at that.

[28:30] I think it's 3, verse 11. Colossians 3, verse 11. Ah! Read it for me. Let's go. Where there is neither. It's talking about the church. He said, in the church, now let's continue, in the church, there is neither meek or sheep, seven sides, seven, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all.

[28:55] But Christ, all that. I can't hear you. But Christ, all that. But Christ is all and in all. That is a church. That is a church.

[29:06] That is a church. Hallelujah. So, if you are not born again, you are not part of the church. You can call yourself a Christian, but you are not a believer.

[29:19] You can call yourself a Christian, but you are not part of the church. And Jesus is coming for his church. Not Christians. There's no way in the Bible he says he's coming for Christians.

[29:31] He's coming for his church. church. So, to create in himself one new man and to reconcile both and to, that he might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross thereby putting to death the enmity.

[29:53] Now, so, I went into all this just to let you know that another name or phrase, phrase or portrait in the New Testament for the church is the one new man.

[30:06] So then, if you are in the church, you are part of the one new man. If you are in the church, you are part of the one new man. If she is in the church, she is part of the one new man.

[30:17] If he is in the church, he is part of the one new man. If I am in the church, I'm part of the one new man. However, that new man in you must be renewed.

[30:28] so you have a you have a share in the new man and it's been downloaded it's in your spirit Bible says that he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit we have union with him in our spirits but this thing must rise into our minds sit down sit down if I were you I would shout my Lord hallelujah so he said that back to Ephesians Ephesians chapter and be renewed in the spirit of your mind that you put on the new man which was created according to God in true righteousness and holiness first of all you have to put on the new be renewed in the spirit of your mind and put on the new man

[31:45] Colossians chapter 3 let's go to Colossians chapter 3 again it's like verse 10 Colossians chapter 3 is so nice and put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of him so now when you are as you are a believer the new man must be renewed for you to put him on putting on the new man is like putting on your clothes in Galatians chapter 3 verse 27 Galatians chapter 3 verse 27 let's all read the other let's go so you can wear Christ ah if you are baptized into him you have put him on Romans chapter 12 verse 13 Romans chapter 12 verse 13 um no sorry I think they are that way around 13 verse 12 13 verse 14 let's go to 13 verse 14 yeah 13 verse 14 let's go let's go shh one more time one more time he's talking to believers that wear him put him on so when he said put on the new man this whole thing and he says the new man is renewed according to the knowledge of Christ and he said put on so see you renew him and put on it's this whole thing this whole Christian thing is Christ centered how much Christ is growing in you and how much you are growing in Christ

[33:28] Galatians chapter 4 verse 19 says that I travail until Christ be formed in you wow the apostle's greatest desire he said I travail like a woman in labor when a woman goes to labor oh they say push why are you pushing that baby must come the apostle said I'm also pushing so Christ will be formed in somebody Christ will be formed in somebody apostle said that when he pleased God who separated me from my mother's womb to reveal his son in me hey he's not only being formed inside me he's being revealed in me oh I see somebody becoming an expression of Christ you remember I taught you something about the reason why God created man one of the reasons is for man to be his habitation the other one is to be counterbal the other one is to be it's a large man the last one to be reflection let us

[34:35] Genesis chapter 1 verse 26 let us make man in our own image and our likeness image and likeness it's supposed to represent and reflect image the image when I see your image I can tell it's you that picture on your phone is not your brother it's your brother's picture but that's not your brother it's an image and the image reflects who the image is reflecting or represents and we have been created by God and when we are born again watch this in Romans chapter 8 verse 29 for those he foreknew he also predestined to be what those he foreknew he has predestined you to be conform into the so when we see you we see Christ because that is why God created us that we become his refresh reflection he will become his reflection he said let us create man in our own image after our likeness verse 27 and the 27 says that roman genesis verse 27 just go there and God created man in his own image in the image of God created him so you see there's no gender when it comes to the image of God the female is an is a reflection of the image of God the male is the if you suppress femaleness you are doing something on scriptural because you are trying to blind and blank an expression of God's image it doesn't take only a male to express God neither does it take only female to we need the male and we need the female to express God God created them Bible said that male and female created he them but he created them in his image created them a church that only has men is not a church a church that only has women is not a church a church is supposed to be a combination of genders without mixture without confusion so back to the text are you learning something at all god created us in his image to be his reflection now because of sin the image of god was not fully expressed in man and sin came in and so christ came as the express image of the father hebrews chapter 3 chapter 1 verse 3 he came as the the actual image in colossians chapter 1 verse 15 he is the icon he is the image he is the image of the god who cannot be seen he's the image of the god and now we are being cloned when you come born again god has predestined us to be conformed into the image of the original god man so this is a transformation program so when you come to christ your spirit is transformed or your spirit is renewed already but now you have to be renewed in the spirit of your mind it has to begin to climb up into your soul some people are born again but your addictions are still you are born again but your your test for some things are still not changed you are born again and still struggling with masturbation you are born again but still struggling with gambling you are born again still struggling with hatred bitterness that is your old man you have to put him on but don't try and put him off without putting on christ

[38:36] so the way you go about it is be renewed in the spirit of your mind so that you can put on the new man if any man be in christ hallelujah oh god when you look at scripture you can see the new man the new man right from even the old testament the new man was made reference to in ezekiel chapter 36 verse 26 ezekiel 36 26 ezekiel 36 this is this is god talking i will give you a new heart and i will put a new spirit within you i will take the heart of stone out of out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh i will give you a new spirit and a new heart this is god talking and so second corinthians chapter 5 verse 17 says if any man be in christ he's a new creation in in galatians chapter 6 verse 15 galatians chapter 5 6 verse 4 in christ not that circumcision not all circumcision availed anything but a new creation but a new creation i have tell somebody i'm a new creation in christ romans chapter 6 verse 4 romans chapter 6 verse 4 verse 4 verse 4 let's all read it out let's go verse 4 through baptism into death that just as christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the father even so we also should walk in what even so we also should walk in what newness of life newness of life we have been called into newness of life it doesn't start just by reformation of behavior it starts by introduction of christ into our spirit and then it begins to grow our the spirit of our minds is renewed when it's renewed we put on the new man put on the new man ephesians chapter 4 verse 24 said that you put on the new man which is recreated which was created according to god in true when you talk about righteousness it's in your spirit it's in your spirit that's where god inhabits it's in the spirit of the regenerated righteousness that new man is created in righteousness and holiness when we talk about holiness it's in your spirit it's not a mental thing it's not first in your behavior it's first in your spirit and from your spirit you put on the new man so the new man is already in your spirit how did it come they went upon regeneration when you became born again christ brought his life into you that's what i told you new when we talk about new we are not talking about time but we are talking about nature something of god has been introduced into you and that's what makes you a child of god that's what makes you a believer that's what makes you a new creation if any man be in christ he is a new creation and it says that this new man is created in true holiness and true righteousness and holiness so it said so henceforth that means from now onwards henceforth if you come and tell me about somebody how they used to be they used to be a bad guy they used to be bad girl when?
