Jesus truly satisfies. We begin tonight, in the tenth chapter of Daniel, just to refresh ourself for an introductory moment to the fact that Daniel introduces us not only to persistent praying and not only to a picture of the Lord Jesus Christ and not only to good angels, but he also introduces us to the realm of evil angels.
I trust maybe tonight we can leave chapter 10 and next Sunday evening go on to chapter 11. That may not be possible, but we're going to try. We have diverted ourselves from the prophecy and practical teaching of Daniel for three Sunday evenings because of the fact that the tenth chapter of Daniel has so much to tell us or introduce us to in regards to the word of God.
Daniel prayed. He didn't get an answer like he normally got immediately. He prayed 21 days. Nothing came. He then sees a vision of the Lord Jesus Christ, the same vision barring one sentence that John in chapter 1 of Revelation sees.
Therefore, you can tie the book of Revelation and the book of Daniel in its continuity together. He then sees or is given the opportunity of a touch by an angel, a good angel.
I only designate it as good angel because I don't know which way to designate it. Your commentaries do the same thing. The angel from the Lord was sent with his answer to prayer.
But in so coming, he was detained. Now, we have studied angels from the standpoint of those that are messengers of God.
We know that they are created beings. We know that they have ranks and orders. We know, as we looked at last Sunday evening, some very interesting things about angels and what they were used for apart from worshiping God.
So you come to verse 13 of the 10th chapter. I might say to you that even your reference Bible and most of your commentaries, whether they be liberal or orthodox or fundamental or somewhere in between, all agree in kind to what the 12th verse introduces or the 13th verse, excuse me.
The good angel explains to Daniel why the answer didn't come immediately from the first day he prayed, but the prince.
Now, bear something out that is a rank or a title name. The prince of the kingdom of Persia. Now, basically speaking, that has nothing to do with the earthly prince of Persia.
And I might say to you if you're reading your Bible or studying your Bible that very seldom does your Bible speak about the domain of Satan or Satan himself apart from human language.
Most of the time the prophecies connect Satan as indwelling a person synonymous or prophetic of the Antichrist. But it does teach us a great deal.
Here is the prince of the king of Persia. Everyone agrees that this created being was an evil angel or a demon.
Now, let's be very technical for a second. We are not quite sure whether evil angels or demons are synonymous in terminology. There are those who can give good credence to the fact that they are one of the same.
There are also those of scholars who can give credence to the fact that they are not the same. I don't think that should be our concern. Our concern is that one of these, a singular term, prince, had the job of influencing the earthly nation and government of Persia.
Now, what the good angel says is that when he left heaven with Daniel's answer to prayer, he had to fight his way through that area which seems to be the realm of Satan's messengers.
and so difficult was it that Michael had to go to his rescue to help him through that situation.
I think we can see that our prayers even heard by God and answered sent on the way either by the Holy Spirit's direction or by a good angel as a messenger of God can find that prayer not getting answered to us like we normally have prayer answered.
We become so afraid in the age in which we live of saying this is a good possibility based on the word of God lest somebody would laugh at us.
How powerful is the realm of Satan? How powerful is Satan? Who was he? Who is he? Where is he now? Well, you see, that's what he says and just to refresh your memory let me drop you over to verse 20.

Michael is referred to in your Bible as having some different rank than Gabriel now bear something out Michael is not an archangel so designated in the Bible did you know that only Gabriel is designated as an archangel in the Bible Michael is designated an archangel in the writings of Milton but I would remind you that Milton is not God inspired but Michael seems to have some different rank than an ordinary angel or messenger of God I want you to see not from the fact of substance but a line in Jude verse 6 and the angels which kept not their first estate now in other words I'm not going to discuss with you when was angels created when did they exist there is a great deal of discrepancy or imagination that realms into that thing if you could have been at lunch with us today with brother

I referred you to the fact that three times in the New Testament or six times in the New Testament three in regards to good angels and three in regards to bad angels the word which is translated first estate here is translated principality or power three times it is translated in regards to principality and power a designation of good angels and three times it is translated principality or power designating evil angels now I can give you one without turning it that you all know Ephesians 6 says put on the whole armor of God that you be able to stand against the wiles of the devil for we wrestle not against flesh and blood now kindly notice something this is not my lesson tonight you as a believer in Jesus Christ do not have your greatest problem with people you have your greatest problem and the word wrestle is very interesting pale in the Greek language only used in that time in the New
Testament in the original Greek a very strong word and wrestle is exactly like you get the picture today it is all outward wrestling is an outward sport it entangles the limbs and the arms and the head and the neck and the torso and everything that's the word wrestle in Ephesians 6 12 for we wrestle not against flesh and blood but we wrestle against principalities and powers and spiritual wickedness and darkness in the heavenlies now that is a description of the first estate word used here in Jude 6 as it pertains to evil angels now in other words this group of angels in Jude 6 had a position or a beginning or a rule or a preeminence or a principality
I could translate the word exactly like that if you want to look at it look what it says and the angels which kept not their beginning or the angels which kept not their preeminence or the angels which kept not their principality I remember in college taking a class and arguing with the professor on Ephesians 6 12 because he said every time you have a reference to principality and powers and spiritual things in the heavenlies it has to refer to beings apart from humans now at that time all college kids are smart Alex and they think they know everything and he was right there is never a reference to principalities and powers that is the rank referred to in Ephesians and Colossians and Corinthians of angels now this group of angels left that preeminence or that principle or that rulership or that beginning so they lost something we do not understand how that could take place now the question always is how did they lose it why did they lose their preeminence or their principality or their original rank now just let me say something to you of course they rebelled against God
I want to show you that in a moment but there's a little phrase in second Timothy excuse me first Timothy chapter 3 verse 6 that I want to turn you to and I think it probably fits in simplicity of teaching in the light of who is Satan time you remember now you wrestle against principalities and powers and spiritual darkness and wickedness in the heavenlies all outward and in first Timothy 3 it's a strange place to find it but look at verse 6 speaking about a pastor or an overseer translated bishop in your Bible verse 6 says not a novice less being lifted up with what class pride now that seems to be a good indication of something because he ties it to something he fall into the condemnation or damnation of Satan the devil it would seem from this little phrase that the angels that kept not their original place lost that original place through rebellion against
God based on pride now all that Paul says to us is that you must be very careful with the pastor lest he is a novice and he is lifted up with pride which probably is the easiest sin for you to have to rebel against God so these angels in Jude 6 left their first beginning or preeminence or rank and are reserved in chains until the day of judgment now those evil angels can't do anything so we have a group of evil angels which are awaiting the day of judgment they cannot do anything they are chained all right what about Satan if he has such a domain if he has a following and I mentioned to you I am not sure about this that because of the balance of references in the
New Testament it would seem from reason and logic that there are as many evil angels as there are good angels now you realize we studied the number of good angels thousands times ten thousands times ten thousands an innumerable situation in the Hebrew and the Greek language millions probably all the good angels according to Hebrews chapter one are ministering spirits and angels are called spirits and we assume that the evil angels if there's a separate category and demons if they're a separate category are also spirits some do not need bodies and others do need bodies turn to Ezekiel chapter 28 Daniel introduces us to the realm of Satan his princes his ranks and of course Satan in his original position had a rank he had a preeminence and all of you know Ezekiel and I'm afraid to turn to it because I don't want to lose you for a few moments but maybe sometimes it's good to refresh our memory with already what we know what about
Satan and again if you want to learn something prophetically let me give you a rule of thumb whenever the prophets write about Tyre or Sidon they are speaking of political realms or governmental realms whenever the prophet Isaiah or Daniel or Jeremiah or Ezekiel speaks of Babylon they are prophesying in regards to the religious realm you cannot tie it totally to revelation although I remind you in the prophecy of revelation the trinity of Satan which includes the antichrist and the false prophet energized by Satan himself not only have religious superiority but they have political and governmental superiority so the writers of prophecy using history use Tyre and Sidon as the political governmental history in regards to the antichrist and the antichrist empowered by Satan for the sway that he'll have and it always uses
Babylon as the religious or the spiritual tone of Satan through the antichrist and the false prophet now that's a rule of thumb there may be some overlapping the 18th chapter of Revelation is an overlap because when Babylon falls the merchants cry but maybe the political is not involved with the merchants maybe it is so unified that religious political governmental business things are what you realize the mark of the beast 666 may be a political situation but it's also a spiritual situation for without that number you can not only not buy and sell you can't worship and we forget that in Ezekiel 28 you have the normal passage about Satan and kindly notice it is tied to Tyre the land I don't know if I should take time to read it all because most of you are students enough but let me at least start in verse 1 to show you something the word of the
Lord came again unto me saying son of man say unto the prince of Tyrus now the word prince here could again mean not only a human being but a human being energized by a messenger of Satan no doubt when we get to verse 12 it is a picture of the antichrist energized by Satan and Satan illustrated in the person personified son of man say unto the prince of Tyrus thus saith the Lord God because thine heart is lifted up and thou hast said I am a God now if this is a prophecy of the antichrist you can see immediately energized by Satan he is going to say I am a God I sit in the seat of God in the midst of the seas yet thou art a man and not God though thou saith thine heart is the heart of God behold thou art wiser than Daniel did you ever notice that how wise was Daniel ten times wiser than the magicians of the heathen kings and yet if the prince of
Tyrus is illustrative of Satan and his fall he is smarter than the prophet Daniel energized by God drop down with me to verse 11 for that's where most writers believe the illustration of Satan's fall begins moreover the word of the Lord came unto me saying son of man take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus again identifying the political realm and say unto him thus saith the Lord God what was Satan before he fell well he was an angel a created angel in a moment we'll turn to Isaiah and see that his name was Lucifer well what was he if you'll drop down for a moment look at verse 15 Lucifer the angel with a rank principality preeminence rule etc and kindly notice an angel can never go out of his rank he always stays in the same rank it's a caste system in verse 15 you'll notice that he was created perfect thou was perfect in thy ways from the day that thou was created now we know he can't be talking about an earthly king or he wouldn't use the word creation
Lucifer who is now Satan was created perfect whole mature now don't ask me afterward pastor why did he sin nobody has an answer from that as far as I can find in reading the total word of God we also cannot answer why didn't God take all of his power away kindly notice he was not one of the angels that is changed for judgment yet even though that because of pride he's left his original preeminence one of the unanswerable questions in God's regime all right drop back to verse 12 now so he was created perfect in other words he possessed the son that all creatures of all the excellencies of all creatures now how much excellent was he look in verse 12 thou sealest up the sum in other words sealest up the sum is the word complete full of wisdom how much full of wisdom better than
Daniel's wisdom touched by God has satan lost all of his wisdom no he has not lost all of his wisdom but he's lost some of his sense because although he's been defeated by Christ he thinks he still can win that's interesting so we have a creature created perfect full of wisdom and perfect in beauty very interesting you'll kindly notice that for satan to tempt eve after he fell he had to enter into a body of a serpent he could not do it with his own image or his own character that's interesting but he was created perfect he was created full of wisdom and he was created full of wisdom now look at verse 13 thou has been in eden the garden of god that's the most controversial phrase in regards to angels in your bible you only have two possibilities class either there was apart from the original creation a place that god created for angels for his own glory that he named originally eden he describes eden every precious stone was thy covering and again remember something you have the same description of the new jerusalem in revelation chapter 21 every precious stone was thy covering sardius topaz diamond barrel onyx jasper sapphire emerald carbuncle gold the workmanship of thy tabraids and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou was created quite a being what was his original position look at the first phrase of verse 13 again his original position was in eden the garden of god now if you do not believe in an eden before genesis 1 1 then you have to believe that satan was there in his original creation when god created the eden before he put adam and eve in it there are only two choices but it doesn't make any difference it would seem that the original being called lucifer in god's creation was given something that was unique and we do not know why except for the glory of god at verse 14 there are some interesting words here thou art the anointed cherub remind you that not only was he perfect in creation and wisdom and beauty he was perfect in holiness and another thing for you to think about if you're a student the word anointing is never directed apart from prophet priest and king in your bible and therefore his original position was the highest in the position of wisdom and prophecy and rulership now don't belittle something how powerful is he today more powerful than flesh only time that paul refers to the armor of god is into the realm of satan his rank his principalities his powers his emissaries his messengers his demons then it must affect us therefore a believer who does not have on the whole armor of god is affected outwardly by satan and his messengers now satan is not omniscient he's not omnipresent he's not omnipotent we know that he's an angel but you are aware i don't
have time to go in it tonight and i may not next week did you ever read what satan did to the followers of christ did you ever read paul's thorn in the flesh what is explained a messenger of satan sent to buffet you from the outside i was never so amazed in my life as i read luke 13 yesterday do you realize there are two women with two issues of blood in the gospel that were healed by christ and the one in luke 13 god the lord jesus christ says that that issue of blood was sent by satan and she had it for 18 years now it doesn't say that all sickness is of satan because some sickness is of god it says so in first corinth chapter 11 for this reason many are weak and sickly among you and many even sleep but it is very interesting that your bible speaks a great deal about satan's emissaries and what they do to the followers of god in jesus christ i certainly don't think it's very fair for god to let an evil angel buffet call all of his life but he did but always from the outside we wrestle not and outward wrestling not inward go a little further in verse 14 thou art the anointed cherub that covereth and i have set thee so thou wast upon the holy mountain here's the second position in his original creation the holy mountain always refers to ruling and usually in the area of god it thou hast walked up and down in the midst of stones of fire there's not one person that can tell you what that phrase means oh we can conjecture that refers back to ezekiel 1 and 2 in regards to the sacrifices but we have no proof of what it is verse 15 what about his conduct thou was perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast!

morning very interesting phrase the word day star and son of morning are two messianic titles of jesus christ yes they are how art thou fallen from heaven oh lucifer son of the morning how art thou cut down to the ground which did weaken the nations for thou hast said in thine heart i will ascend into heaven here's that proud thing of ezekiel 28 i will exalt my throne above the stars of god literal stars or a rank of angels could be or literal stars if the next phrase fits i will sit also upon the mount of the congregation in the sides of the north and most scientists believe that the throne of god is above the north star they have no proof of that but we do know there's a passage way there of which there are no galaxies there are no stars there are no meteorites there's nothing it's a passage way we have no explanation for it except from the word of god so you see that lucifer was a created being just as all the angels were created being they fell some fell from their preeminence and are kept in chains for judgment others are not we do not know how that came about or why why were some of them chained and some of them let loose well we really don't know where is satan now turn to job chapter one all of you know this i do not teach this very often because i don't want people interested in the subject of satan i want them interested enough to defeat them but not interested enough to be interested in them i personally believe with tim la hay that when you study satan and evil angels and demons enough you become so morose and discouraged that he defeats you and i believe that with all my heart it's been proven over and over again where is satan today well let's look at job chapter one verse six now there was a day when the sons of god that's an interesting phrase again when you look at genesis six the sons of god saw the daughters of men to interpretation the sons of god could have been angels that left their first habitation their preeminence and resided in flesh and therefore produced a lineage which was abnormal that is not without credence in fact jude six seems to indicate that but it's possible they were of the line of the heathens that professor greer talked about this morning the canaanite is fine to interpretation there was a day when the sons of god came to present themselves before the lord the sons of god here no doubt are reference to angels and satan came also among them he still had access to god and the lord said unto satan kindly notice that god still talks to satan i would remind you that if you read some of the other prophets what is satan doing today my personal opinion is that he doesn't move far away from heaven all of the things that are going around are satanic are his messengers it wasn't satan that fought with the angel that was bringing daniel's prayer answer it was the prince of satan i showed you last week it only takes one prince to affect the government of a whole nation that's how powerful one evil angel is i personally believe that satan stands as much as he can with god through christ to accuse you and me before god he can only be one place at a time and that's
the place he wants to be because he does not have to worry about the sinner he only has to be concerned about the saint and that's why i say he hasn't lost all his wisdom but he's lost some of his reasons he actually believes he can get a saint away from god and he is called the accuser of the brethren right and day and night he accuses the brethren i personally think he has some ability either through his messengers and that's the only way would be because he's not all seeing that his messengers are constantly going to him and saying so and so is doing this tell god and he tells god he talks to god and i'm being imaginative god of course is omnipotent and omniscient but god says to christ is this one of yours he says yeah he's covered by the blood and he says the satan get away you can't touch him he keeps trying and trying and trying that's what he's doing with job he's trying to get job out of the realm of god and that's what he does day and night somebody says to me do angels have to sleep i don't know if angels have to sleep or not i will remind you of this though that sin causes fatigue therefore evil angels probably have to rest what happened and the lord said unto satan whence comest thou notice here that he went to and fro he left heaven for the moment where you been he has the privilege of going to and fro now we don't know how fast angels can move we don't know how fast satan can move but they seem to be faster than men and with some that wouldn't be too fast walking to and fro and up and down the lord said have you considered my servant job that there's none like him well job answers and says exactly what he feels and you have the same thing verse 13 there was a day oh excuse me let's go to chapter 2 verse 1 and there was a day when the sons of god came to present themselves before the lord whether this is methodical or orderly or rank or some other time i don't know and satan came also among them to present himself before the lord i wonder why he presents himself before god hoping to get some relief from where he is hoping to get some more power although he's got cast out he still has position most of you are always afraid when the writers of the bible says god sent evil angels among them i don't have any problem with that the psalmist said that you know of one of his battles god sent evil angels among us why as joseph said you meant it for evil but god meant it for good kindly notice that in job satan was not cast out turn to revelation chapter 12 and 13 we won't go much further tonight i don't believe revelation 12 is not difficult to analyze prophetically it is a prophecy it describes for us israel as the woman it describes for us in verse 3 and 4 satan he's called the dragon here the great red dragon it describes for us christ who was born of the woman and then it becomes prophetical it does nothing with the age of grace verse 7 and there was a war in heaven michael and his angels kindly notice that's a who who who rank again michael seems to have some subservient messengers of god under him fought against the dragon the dragon fought and his angels so satan has some under him that he guides to fight and prevailed not neither was their place found any more in heaven in other words they're still there they still have access joe proves that

daylights out of me what is the spirit of the unbeliever it is the spirit of an evil angel it is the spirit of the messenger of satan satan can't be in that person if he did he couldn't be any place else but he has his princes he has his messengers he has his demons he has his evil angels if they are identifiable differentiations and he says to us that every unbeliever has that spirit working in him we throw up no guards to unbelievers that doesn't say we shouldn't love them but i'd remind you of something we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against that which is satan's realm beneath heaven and above earth which is not the philosophy of satan but the workers of satan the spirit the angel the emissary that should not cause us to boast because we are of jesus christ it should cause us to turn to the word of god let me ask you a question christian how do you know when you've got the breastplate on how do you know when you've got the girdle on how do you know when you've got the helmet on how do you know when you've got your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace now the shield is not so much a problem the shield we got which is the word of god my conviction is we have become very glib and daniel says to us listen i'm writing something that actually happened to me i prayed and i prayed and i prayed and i prayed and i looked at myself and i cleansed myself and i analyzed myself and the answer didn't come and the angel said i've been on the way since the first day it's now the 24th day and i had to fight through beneath heaven and above earth to the extent that i had to have help and the new testament says probably the help that we have is the whole armor of god you can't be isolation you have to live in the world but you don't have to be of the world as professor greer said this morning we have no christian culture we've taken the world's culture why aren't we as christians special why don't we stand alone instead of accepting what the world wants us to accept sure we become fools for christ's sake we read about daniel you know if he ever shared this in his day and age i bet you they laughed at him satan is not a laughing matter he was a created intelligent wise beautiful holy governing being and if that kind of being because of pride can lose i don't appreciate paul writing that only admonition to pastors not a novice less being puffed up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil it seems like pastors must be more susceptible to pride than the normal average christian and that may be true heavenly father we have technically tonight looked at the word of god and we
realize that we are not daniels but we are your children we thank you for the word of god you've given us just enough to whet our appetite but enough also that makes us grasp by faith its truth our science and our thought become so specific and we think we're so good but we haven't scratched the surface but help us tonight with paul to realize that you don't stop satan's messengers because we accept you you have given us the tools to conquer we could become very proud and say we can do it and we won't heavenly father we know not the tenor of our lesson tonight it's not very practical but help us to realize that satan still stands before you that he has a realm of power that you've allowed him to have that we don't understand certainly it's above men we're thankful also that you gave us a ministering angel that tonight they look down upon us to see our holiness and our conduct and we wonder tonight if we've made them ashamed or embarrassed or even you embarrassed it's hard for us to realize
God that the Holy Spirit is here and Christ is here and the holy angels are here may we somehow grasp the truth of the word of God and the necessity of your holiness in our lives we thank you for this day you see hearts tonight you know needs we'll have to trust the Holy Spirit to meet them through a song through a word through praying through something that we haven't even said that has jumped at them from the Bible and if you tarry in the days to come draw us back to Daniel to see the end of the age to see the Antichrist to see how specific he has been in telling us what's going to happen and so tonight send us home with that ancient prayer of saying to you maybe tonight the clouds will open and the
