[0:00] We'll read again in the same chapter that we had in the morning in Mark's Gospel, chapter 5. As I was saying, in the morning we meditated upon the woman with the issue of blood, and tonight we're going to look at Jairus, who's usually called Jairus' daughter.
[0:26] And we'll read again at verse 21 of the chapter, just repeating the chapter. Chapter 5, Mark's Gospel at verse 21.
[0:40] And when Jesus was passed over, again by ship and to the other side, meant much people gathered unto him, and he was nigh unto the sea. And behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name.
[0:53] And when he saw him, he fell at his feet, and besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death. I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed, and she shall live.
[1:08] And Jesus went with him, and much people followed him and thronged him. And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years, and had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered.
[1:23] But rather grew worse when she heard that of Jesus came in the press behind, and touched his garment. For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.
[1:35] And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague. And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press and said, Who touched my clothes?
[1:49] And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, sayest thou, Who touched me? And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing. But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.
[2:05] And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole. Go in peace, and behold of thy plague. While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue's house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead.
[2:20] Why throublest thou the master any further? Soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.
[2:31] And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John, the brother of James. And he cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly.
[2:44] When he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this adieu, and weep? The damsel is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn.
[2:55] But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying. And he took the damsel by the hand, and saith unto her, Talitha kome, which is being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise.
[3:14] And straightway the damsel arose and walked, for she was at the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment. And he charged them straightly that no man should know it, and commanded that something should be given her to eat.
[3:28] Amen. May the Lord bless that portion of his own word. We'll sing this time in Psalm 138. Psalm 138.
[3:41] Psalm 138 from verse 3.
[3:55] Psalm 139. Psalm 139. Psalm 139. Psalm 139. Psalm 139. Psalm 139.
[4:31] We sing these four verses to the Lord's praise. Psalm 139. Psalm 139. Psalm 139. Psalm 139. Psalm 139. Who didst me answer in the day when I to thee did cry.
[4:44] Psalm 139.
[5:14] and never be. For kings of all the earth shall give me praise, O Lord, when thou hast given long thy love shall heal, thy good and faithful word.
[5:54] In the righteousness of God, with gladness in such a sin, for eternal will be all there, with love forever in.
[6:28] Though God be high, yet hear his birth, O Lord, O Lord, sorry for all the Lord, Who is the abusing?
[6:44] Or we do thee calling from verse heaven Pastor, passion and love, give us the power of glory.
[7:08] Well, before we turn back to the chapter, we just have a short word. Ask the Lord to help us. O Lord, we come again seeking thy help.
[7:19] We need it each day, but we need thy help, particularly when we are meditating upon a portion of thy word, because we are dwelling with holy things, things that concern our never-dying souls, and things that we have to give an account for of what use we are making of them.
[7:42] O Lord, help us to meditate upon them in such a way that we too would be like others of which we are reading, of which we are going to meditate about tonight, that we too would be seeking Jesus above everything else.
[8:01] O bless thy word to us. Give us light. Give us the knowledge. Give us the understanding that we would see more and more of the glory that is in Christ Jesus, our Saviour.
[8:15] Bless us together then. Keep us. Watch over us. For Jesus' sake. Amen. Amen. Again, as I said in the morning, we're going to look at chapter 5.
[8:27] Again, the two, we couldn't possibly get through the whole two in one service, because there's so much in both the woman with the issue of blood, and then with Jairus, and Jairus' daughter.
[8:47] If we look at a text for tonight, we would look at verse 36. As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.
[9:04] I'm reading through a book at the moment. It's called Imprisoned with Isis. Faith in the Face of Evil.
[9:17] And it's by a man called Peter Jacek. I'm just reading about half of it, but I'm absolutely enthralled with it.
[9:28] I don't know if any of you have got it. It's released by Voice of the Martyr, of whom Peter Jacek worked. It's to do with a time in 2015 when Peter Jacek went out.
[9:41] He was working for Voice of the Martyr. That's the charity that deals with those who are persecuted for the gospel's sake. And he went out to visit some of, in a sort of underground way, some of those who were working for Christ in the Sudan.
[10:01] in 2015. Now somebody know a wee bit of history. Well, in 2015, the Sudan was in a bit of turmoil between the North Sudan, the South Sudan, fighting between each other.
[10:13] And there was talk about the North Sudan becoming one nation and the South Sudan becoming another. But he was, anyway, to cut a long story short, he was caught at the airport.
[10:25] He had told his wife that he would be home. He was a Czechoslovakian national. And he was taken in and imprisoned by ISIS, questioned by the authorities.
[10:39] The authorities were not ISIS, but he was, then nothing was told, but he was put into a cell with five other prisoners. And these prisoners were all hardened ISIS criminals.
[10:54] And you know these ISIS criminals, these are the hardline Islamists that were fighting in Iraq, in Iran, and probably are more than likely going to take over the new regime that is formed in Afghanistan.
[11:18] So, he was imprisoned, put into a cell, a small cell, with no bed, only one bed in the whole cell.
[11:30] There was another five ISIS prisoners, and he had not even a blanket to cover him. He was freezing cold during the nights, most of the day.
[11:42] He was saying that he could only get, light would come inside a small window 15 minutes of the day. And he prayed and prayed that the Lord would somehow get him a blanket.
[11:56] That's all he wanted, a blanket. Because he was, he was saying, it's a harrowing story, it says that when he was fed, he was, they were fed in one bowl, food was just thrown in to one bowl, and they would scramble and eat, they weren't even getting knives and forks, they ate the food with their hands, and they were just filthy.
[12:19] And he started, but anyway, the thing about it was, he had prayed for a blanket, and he, one day, a guard was passing by, and he said to him, may I have a blanket, please?
[12:31] The guard stopped, and he said to him, you are a Czech Republic, you are used to cold weather, no blanket for you. So, a week went by, no blanket, and then all of a sudden, the only one, the ISIS individual, that was sleeping on the bed, only one of them slept on the bed, and he must have been the chief amongst them, and he came up to him, and he said to him, his family had just bought him, a second brand new, a second brand new blanket, and he calls it, he says, it was a soft flannel one, with yellow and orange flowers, that's the connection, recollection he had, and he came up to him, and he decided to give the new one, to Peter, Jasik, and this is what he said to him, this is for you, he had tears in his eyes, said Peter,
[13:39] I was moved by his gift, and I felt the emotion, welling in my own eyes, for the first time, since I arrived in prison, I would finally be warm, this gesture overwhelmed me, even in the midst of this terrible situation, I was reminded, of God's care, and provision, imagine, he had answered my prayer, and given me a blanket, but he says, then turned to the man, and he said, I don't, he says, have anything to reimburse you, what can I do, and this is said, next thing he says, took me by surprise, pray for me, out of the blue, pray for me, turned to him, and he said, can I pray for you, to find the right way to God, yes, he said, please pray, that I can find, the right way to God, what, he couldn't believe it, next, next line of the book says, four days later, he was released from prison, and I never saw him again, we wonder, and he would wonder, how that man, came up to him, in the midst of his prison cell, a hardened ISIS man, and says to him, pray for me, well friends, we're going to see, today, in the story of, chair us, how chair us, in a way, yes, in a more than way, prayed to the Savior, and found an answer, chair us, one commentator says, is one of the unsung heroes, of the Savior's ministry,
[15:42] I had never thought of that, until I really studied him, for tonight, but you know, as I began to study it, I began to see something, in this chair, that I'd never seen before, first of all, I'd like to look at two things, first of all, we'll look at, an anxious request, and then secondly, an encouraging response, as we said, in the morning, Jesus is here, and he's surrounded, by many people, it's a throng of them, his fame, probably had spread, spread around the region, he was the healer, he was, the great preacher, he was the great teacher, people, everywhere he went, crowds, were gathering, round him, and this crowd, that day, was, big, large crowd, and out of that crowd, we read, in verse, 22, behold, there cometh, one of the rulers, of the synagogue, and every time,
[16:52] I see that word, behold, it almost says to me, that it almost came, as a surprise, and it would have come, as a surprise, because, this, was, Jairus, a ruler, of the synagogue, he was in such, a high authority, he was the ruler, of the synagogue, now, at that time, the synagogue, those in the synagogue, the scribes, and the Pharisees, and the Sadducees, had no time, for Jesus, and here, he was, a ruler, in the synagogue, and it's obvious, that he's in great, distress, because why, look at what he does, he falls, at the feet, of Jesus, that's what it says there, he comes, he says, he says, there, and when he saw him, that's Jesus, he fell, at his feet, and this is what he says, my little daughter, is lying, at the point of death, literally, she's reached, the final stage, some commentators, reckon that, before he left the house, she had died,
[18:05] I don't know, if I can read that into it, because why would he, be here, why would they come to him, later on, but anyway, whatever it is, she was, at the final stages, of death, and this man, was at his, end, wits end, he was in earnest, he was serious, but look, at his posture, first of all, he's the ruler, of the synagogue, he's an important man, he's probably, well dressed, people probably, know him, they would, they would, they would almost, move out, of the way of him, because he's the synagogue, he's the ruler, of the synagogue, and here it is, and he falls, at the feet of Jesus, and friends, I don't believe, that that was just a kneeling, I think, that you find, that Jairus, went prostrate, at the feet of Jesus, he went flat, almost on his face, at the feet of Jesus, and there he is, in it, there he is in it, and he's sitting, he's there, lying there, in the front, of everybody, before, a huge crowd, there he is, almost, and I would say, he was weeping, at the feet of Jesus, that's his posture, it was the posture, of complete, and utter, helplessness, and humility, humility, humility, humility, he knew who Jesus was, and he, realized who Jesus was, and there he comes, in complete, and utter, humility, look at his plea, next, someone's posture, next his plea, verse 23, he besought, him, greatly, he besought, him, greatly, my little daughter, he calls, that's what he calls her, my little daughter, my only daughter, in another place, my little daughter, is it not a tender plea, dear friends, my little one, it's an affectionate plea, it's a loving plea, it's an intense plea, please, come, he's saying, and just lay your hands on her, lay your hands on her, and it's a convincing plea, why is it convincing, not that, she may be healed, again, the same as the woman, he's using this word, shall, oh friends, when we see scripture, these words, these little words, are so important, aren't they, when we look at it, not she may be healed, she shall be healed, that is what he's saying, no, do buy it, about it, she is going to be healed, she will be healed, he's absolutely convinced, that Jesus, will do, for this dying child, what he cannot do, and what nobody else can do, and that's bring her back, to life, what brought,
[21:45] Jairus, to the feet of Jesus, brought him, well, I believe it was faith, why, because he was leaning, on Jesus only, that's what he was doing, this, was his only hope, he had a great need, just as the woman, had in the morning, maybe like the woman, in the morning, we read about, maybe, he had spent doctors, on the little child, we don't know, how long the little child, was suffering like this, at all, it would appear, that she had been suffering, before he left the house, so it would appear, that she became sick, did she become sick, very quickly, we don't know, and he was, he had heard, of this Jesus, who was passing by, he had heard him, I could see him, almost in a rush, saying to his wife,
[22:47] Jesus of Nazareth, is passing by, I must go, I must go, for a little one, I must get to him, for a little one, I must get to this Jesus, you see, he's got nothing left, no other aid, for the recovery, of his child, no other hope, apart from Jesus, you see, Jesus was racing, against time, wasn't he, think about it, think about it, think about it, if your little child, your little child, was ill, and you know, you know, if you're a parent here, you know, when your little child, is ill, you can't, you phone the doctor, and the doctor, is not going to come, well you phone now, NHS 24, and you're saying, will the doctor come, will he come, will he come, and you're in an anxious, anxiety, because you don't know, what's going to happen, to your child, that's the way, that's the way, that's the way, but time, was running out, he knew, when he left the house, that day, that that child, was near to death, and every second, counted, he was, because he said, she was at the point, of death, any delay, and the child, would die, friends, this is so true, about ourselves, isn't it,
[24:11] I was going to read, at the end, that wonderful hymn, by Samuel Rutherford, for the sands of time, with us tonight, and I look around us, and I say, I know some of you are young, the sands of time, are sinking, sinking fast, I was in conversation, with a few people, this week, and we were discussing, the death of, one whom we knew, just recently, and I asked, one of the men, who knew him very well, system, how old was he, oh he was 78, he was a young man, he said, so I asked him, how old were you, how old are you, oh he says, I'm 80, 80, 78, a young man, oh he says, I'm 80, but I'm fit, 80, but I'm fit, I thought, right there and then,
[25:18] I couldn't say it, because of the company, maybe I should have said it, privately too, Psalm, 90, came to mind, three score, and ten years, do sum up, our days, and years, we see, or if by reason, of more strength, than some, four score, they be, our days, that Psalm, it says in that very Psalm, are like a tale, that has been told, and are soon cut off, soon cut off, I was speaking to that man, four weeks ago, I was asking, who he was, I hadn't seen him, for a long time, oh he says, I'm feeling well, feeling well, now I'm not saying, I don't know, about this man's soul, I don't know about his case, with the Lord, or anything like that, good for him, good for him, if it is sudden death, and sudden glory, good for him, and the Psalmist warns, who knows, the power of thy wrath, according to thy fear, so is thy wrath,
[26:31] Lord teach thou us, our end, and mine to bear, Cherus was running out of time, dear friends, here tonight, are you running out of time, am I running out of time, that's the thing with us, our time is fast, fast going by, when I look back tonight, I go back 40, 50 years, it's like yesterday, isn't it, it's our days are so quick, so quickly fast going by, what's our life, it's like a vapour, that's what the Bible says, these days we're living, in uncertain times, but let us like Jairus, oh like, take an example friends, tonight from Jairus, let us take an example, from him, let us go to Jesus, with haste, let us go to Jesus, with haste, and tell him, tell him, that we need him,
[27:38] Psalmist said, in verse 34, this poor man cried, God heard, and saved him, from all his distresses, an anxious request, secondly, an encouraging response, notice in verse 24, Jesus went with him, now, once Jairus had asked, I pray thee, come and lay thy hands, on her, that she may be healed, and she shall live, the end of verse 23, and then in verse 24, Jesus went with him, it would appear, that Jesus, saw, the urgency, in the request, by Jairus, wouldn't you think so, he just went with him, in the middle of the crowd, Matthew says about it, that Jesus was speaking, to the crowd, he was speaking, to the crowd, when Jairus, came up with his, request, out of the blue, and Jesus, as it were, just stops, stops his conversation, stops what he is doing, as a tradesman would say, he puts, he downs his tools, and went, right away, with Jairus, and you know, there is no conversation, here, recorded,
[29:11] I don't know, would there be any conversation, with the time, because, I don't know, would Jesus have said, yes I'll come with you, but, Bible has it, he just went, in all the three gospels, that it's recorded, there's no conversation, he went with him, and, that's a wonderful word, Jesus, went, with him, he went, along with him, at his request, shows us one thing, Jesus, answers, the request, of the needy, oh friends, if you're needy, here tonight, dear friend, if you're needy, here tonight, and you call to him, he'll answer, your request, immediately, without, questioning, there's not, a question put, there's not even, a question put, by the saviour, as to where he lived, how far he was away, no question about, nothing about, anything about it, but he just, goes with him, nothing about his past, nothing about the fact, that he was a ruler, of the synagogue, nothing about the fact, that he hadn't put much faith, in Christ before, if he did,
[30:25] I don't know, we don't know, what is going on, in the heart of Jairus, but he went with him, friends, irrespective, of what your past is, as I said in the morning, this is the Jesus, that goes with you, this is the Jesus, that will go with you, don't ever think, that you'd be on the pale, of salvation, because of, what you said, and what you did, he'll go with you, and there we have, as he's walking along, to the home, there's an interruption, a delay, and we said, we've talked about it, in the morning, a woman comes, stops Jesus, notice, verse 30, now, put yourself, in the position, of Jairus, your child, is at home, at the point, of death, Jesus, you ask, to come along, and Jesus, starts, to come along, and he's starting, on the road, home, but, we find, in verse 30, these words,
[31:32] Jesus, immediately, this is, when he's, when he's, dealing with the woman, when the woman, comes up, and touches him, turned, him, about, in the press, turned around, went, the opposite way, to what Jairus, was wanting him to go, imagine, it, that's what he did, what do you think, Jairus, would have felt, if it was, with me friends, I know, what I would have felt, like, I would have asked, Jesus, to come, and hurry, or come, come to my house, maybe, speak to her later, is that the way, you would do, not Jairus, Jairus, keeps, quiet, he is silent, why, because, the faith, in Jairus, he has put, faith, in,
[32:42] Jesus, the promise, that he was, going to go, to his house, friends, even, in the midst, of what he was, impending death, and the point, of delay, he was still, going to go, to Jairus's house, and Jairus, was quite content, with that, because I don't, see anything, in the Bible, to tell me, anything, whatsoever, that Jairus, responded, in a bad way, to Jesus, stopping, and then, there is the interaction, and the time, when Jesus, is waiting, for the woman, to come forward, you don't hear, Jairus, saying anything, you would have, thought, thought that Jairus, would have said, it was me, and you, I wish you, would come forward, oh, hurry up, hurry up, and come forward, and speak, to the Savior, no, he is, totally, totally, and I believe, he's, he's, totally, dwelling, upon the promise, of the Savior, oh, friends, that's, that's, that's, that's, thing for you, me, and for you, tonight, and especially, tonight, if you're a Christian, if you've been, following Jesus, exercise yourself, in the promise, what he has said to you, he will perfect, and friends, if you're not a Christian, here tonight,
[33:56] I tell you quite honestly, and quite, from the word of God, that if you put your trust, in you, having started, with you, he will continue, with you, and to me, oh, to me, and to many of you, I'm sure, you're saying, what a wonder that is, that he ever continues, with me, all my failings, all my fallings, and yet, he will come with me, that's, that was Jairus, and then, he probably heard, he probably heard, what he said to the woman, daughter, be of good faith, there it is, in verse 34, daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole, go in peace, and be whole of thy plague, and he was thinking there, I think there was, a rekindled hope, a rekindled hope, there's a, a song, I can't remember, what song it is, what he did for others, he can do for you, I think it was a song, by Jim Reeves, many years ago, if I'm, if I'm, if I'm, if I'm, if I'm, some of you can remember, can remember that one, what he did for others, he can do for you, for me, that's, the case here friends, what he did for her, he can do for me, what he did for, for the woman, the issue of blood, he can do for you, what he did for Jairus here, he can do for you, and then we have, the devastating news, at verse 35, just as Jesus, was finishing speaking, to the woman, look what, look what happened, look how it's phrased, look, look at, there's, there's a messenger,
[35:29] Ronnie, you know, I'm, I'm puzzled, at this messenger, I'm puzzled, are you, are you puzzled, why, why, why, why would, why would this, this person come to, to, to, to Jairus, Jairus, Jairus had said that he was going to, the saviour, this, this person comes, and, and she said, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, he or she, I don't know who it is, came from the ruler of the synagogue's house, certain, looks as if there was a few of them, thy daughter is dead, don't trouble the master anymore, don't trouble him, dead, don't trouble him, and before, it was out of the person's mouth, look, look, trouble not the master, verse 35, why troubles the master any further, as soon, look at that word again, as soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, as soon as he heard that, he turned, to Jairus, and he said, to him, these wonderful words, be, not afraid, only, believe, oh, friends, what devastating news, that must have been, for Jairus, thy daughter, is dead, you know,
[37:15] I think it came, that, that, that messenger, that came with the news, came from these, so-called, mourners, I think they were, same other part, remember, they mocked the saviour, later on, we'll come on to that, in a minute, hey, these people had, no heart, for, for the dead child, they could just as easily, have started, bawling, when, when, when, when, when the child was dead, and then start laughing, in the next breath, that's the kind of, kind of, comforter friend, you can do without, you and I can do without, anyway, that's an aside, and then he comes here, the chair is, filled with fear, wonderful words, from the saviour, be not afraid, only believe, Hendrickson puts it well, when the need, was highest, help, was nighest, that's a wonderful, isn't it, it's a wonderful put, when the need, was highest, when, when the need, was highest, help, was nighest, what do you mean by that, when, when, the need, was at such an extremity, with, with, with, with, with, with, with, with,
[38:34] Jairus, right beside him, right beside him, was the help he needed, that is what it is, that was what, and with that, I believe, the, the fear of Jairus, was put out, see, the Lord, in all, that he did, with the woman, had never, forgotten, Jairus, never, once, did he ever, forget, Jairus, he doesn't, operate that way, friends, that's not the way, Jesus works, Jesus, when, you come into, a relationship, with Jesus, he never, forgets you, never, maybe, you think, that's, with the state, with you, you've forgotten, Sam, sometimes, was in that, that, that, that, that situation, and you're not, exempt from that, either, friend, you cry, and you cry, and there's no answer, no, no, no answer coming, silence, makes you think, that he doesn't care, he does, look what he did, look what he did now, once that was done, once that, when that message, had come, verse 37, he put the rest away, he put the rest away, he took three, he took three individuals,
[40:09] Peter, James, and John, do you ever wonder, why Peter, and James, and John, came here, I was thinking about it, this afternoon, a wee bit of reading, upon it, Peter, why do you think Peter, well I began to track Peter, Peter, if you go to, to, to, to, to Matthew, chapter 16, and it tells that, Peter, when he, when he's asked, who do, who do men say that I am, and he says, thou art, thou art the Christ, remember that, remember the promise, then he puts to Peter, better, better check, better, better check, I think it's in chapter, Matthew chapter 16, it says to Peter, he talks about Peter, thou art the Christ, the son of the living God, and then 19, I will give unto thee, the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth, shall be bound in heaven, and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth, shall be loosed in heaven, a promise to Peter, but if you go into, mark it into, into the book of Acts, in the book of Acts, chapter 9, you remember this, the death of Tabitha, and, again,
[41:24] I've better go and, and check the exact, the exact, yes, he says to Tabitha, the disciple Tabitha, and you check it yourselves, in chapter 9, he says to Tabitha there, Tabitha, arise, he had seen it, in the house of Jairus, I wonder, just an aside, just one for you to, to think about, and another thing, was that the first miracle, that was performed, in the New Testament, of raising the dead, Tabitha, again, I'll leave it with you, a bit of homework, John, well, he was the closest disciple, he spent, he was by far, the most spiritual, of Jesus' disciples, the most thoughtful, the most insightful, and then you have James, why James, remember what happened, to James, he was the first, of the disciples, to die of martyrdom, and he was being taught, a little lesson, of what would happen, when he died, anyway, that was, that's an aside, as they make their way, then to the house, they see this commotion, this weeping, this wailing, this,
[42:41] Jesus, Jesus asks them, why, why are you making such a deal, why is such noise, why are you weeping, the damsel, she's not dead, but sleeping, and then look at the next, they laughed him, to scorn, huh, they laughed him, to scorn, they laughed him, to scorn, you know what that means, in our day, they laughed, in his face, that's what it means, today in our language, did you ever have somebody, laughing in your face, sure you did, horrible, horrible, to have somebody, laughing in your face, this is, exactly what they did, they were mocking at him, she's not, you're saying, she's not, she's not dead, they couldn't believe her, what did he do, what did he do, put them all out, them all out, ah friends, the scoffer, has no place, beside Jesus, the scoffer of Jesus, has no place, whatever, you do, never scoff, at the Lord Jesus Christ, he put them out, and then if the three disciples, and the two, the mother and the father, they come in, and what I see, and time is running, first of all, it's a scene of tenderness, and compassion, look at it,
[44:08] Jesus enters the room, silently, he enters it quietly, he enters it without any pomp, or anything like that, he takes the girl, by the hand, and I think it was the right hand, maybe I'll, to get a lot, maybe John Woodrow, you'll be after me again for that, the right hand of his fellowship, took her up, takes the girl by the hand, and he gently takes, and he says to these, these words, Talitha Komi, little maid, little lamb, arise, just like a mother does, to a loving child, when she takes, gets her up, or him up for school, arise, arise, my dear, arise, my dear, my little lamb, oh, there's such a tenderness, in Christ, and, here we have, the greater God, oh creator, this is the majestic,
[45:24] Jesus, and he's saying to the little child, little child, get up, get up, get up, it's time to get up, little child, awake, out, put tenderness, but it's also a scene of triumph, look at, look at what it says there again, we come to this word, straight away, verse 22, we've done a lot about that, this morning, immediately, immediately, the damsel arose, the dead awakes, from a state of sadness, sorrow, pain, darkness, the voice of Jesus comes, and the scene is transformed, to a scene of gladness, the light, instead of darkness, new birth, instead of death, death is done away with, Jesus is triumphing, there's a triumph over death, and with death, the fear of, with Jesus, the fear of death is abolished, but there's also this, and it's a scene of anticipation, why, because friends, as you and I, we do this today, it looks forward, it looks forward, to another day, it looks forward, to a day, when, you and I, will arise, you and I, must arise, remember, when, when the saviour, came to, the widow of Nain, and he does it here as well, he put his hand, on the dead, the life,
[47:09] I am the life, of the world, the life, puts his hand, on the dead, and the dead, is transformed to life, and he comes again, and I think Mark, is highlighting this vividly, you know, when he, when he tells us, that he put his hand, out, he took the damsel, by the hand, and raised, and said unto her, little maid, arise, our friends, there is a day coming, in your experience, if you're, if you're a child of Christ, if, if, if, you're a child of Christ, and it's only those, that are a child of Christ, they will rise, with the command of Jesus, arise, child, arise, will an 84 year old, be called a child, yes, yes, yes, oh it's difficult to dig in, that's what he's going to do, the day of the resurrection, and that day is coming, my friend, and it's going to come, to every one of us, you know,
[48:23] I was thinking, when that girl arose, when she arose, whose face did she see, first, hmm, Jesus, it wasn't her mother, it wasn't her father, it wasn't any of the disciples, because Jesus put his hand down to her, and said, little child, arise, and as I put my child down, to a little child there, arise, she looked up, she looked up, and she saw, no face, but Jesus only, oh friends, that's what you will see, when you depart, this earth, and earth you must, and when you come, to the day of the resurrection, and he comes to your eyes, arise, my fair one, and come away, and come away, oh friends, we're coming to that, we're coming to that, every one of us, and the question is, have we got the faith, have we got the trust, are we in Christ, as Jairus was, he had the faith, to believe, that this would be done, to the child, and it was done, as the saviour said, little wonder, she walked, she arose, and she walked, right away, she walked, it was immediate, so on the day, of the resurrection be,
[49:53] I don't understand it, that moment, the moment, the Lord will come, you'll rise, new body, new body, some to everlasting life, and some, some to everlasting destruction, oh friends, I could plead with you, I would plead with you, if you're not in Christ, to make sure, that tonight doesn't go by, but you're in him, I wish, I wish, I wish I could come to you, if you're not, and pull you over, I can't do it, but the saviour can, he can come with his hand, if you but stretch you, stretch it you must, you know, finally, I was looking, again, just before I came out, and look at the verse, last verse, and he charged them straightly, that no one should know it, there are times, the saviour experience, and he told them not to tell, maybe it was, because where he was, he was close to Gadara, maybe it was of that, but anyway, it's because of this, that his time had not come, his time had not come, the time that he was to, to go to Golgotha, hadn't come, he knew it wouldn't come, so he was trying to keep it down, for a moment, before, before they would, as if it were, rush it up, it wasn't, they could never rush it up, but maybe there was some, there's something in that as well, and that's something, you could discuss as well, why did he say that, but this is another thing, this is astonishing as well, and commanded that something, should be given her to eat,
[51:31] I don't know, but my mind again went to this, Revelation chapter 7, they shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore, neither the sun light upon them, for any heat, not any heat, for the lamb which is in the midst of the throne, shall feed them, and lead them, think of it, think of it, into living fountains of water, and God shall wipe away all tears from the rice, I wonder if it's there just to sell us, this is more, there is more to this, this is again putting us into the day of the resurrection, when Christ will come, and he'll take his children, and lead them, and feed them, bring them into living fountains of water,
[52:37] Christ, shall wipe away all tears from the rice, oh friends, there's nothing like it, there's nothing like it in this world, Samuel Rutherford had that wonderful hymn, the sands of time are sinking, the dawn of heaven breaks, the summer morn I've sighed for, the fair sweet morn awakes, dark, dark hath been the midnight, but day spring is at hand, and glory, glory dwell, in Emmanuel's land, and then in the last, the bride eyes, not her garment, but her dear bridegroom's face, I will not gaze at glory, but on my king of grace, not at the crown he gifteth, but on his pierced hand, the lamb, is all the glory, in Emmanuel's land, oh friends, wouldn't it be good, if we were all gathered, Samuel Rutherford, and all those that have gone before him, in Emmanuel's land, are you looking forward to it, or are you looking with dread, upon that day, may we all, all of us, be in Christ, oh Lord our God, we confess our need of thee tonight, we confess our inability, to really take it in, what thy word says to us, gracious God, we ask that each one of us, would be numbered, amongst those, who are following,
[54:10] Christ Jesus, and on the way to Zion, on the way to Emmanuel's land, where glory, glory dwelleth, oh make it, impress it upon our minds, to come, while the day of grace is with us, and help those of us, who have come, to follow on, oh to carry on, carry on, and to follow Christ, as much as we can, we confess our failings, and our fallings, wash them again, in the precious blood, and we ask it for Jesus, sake, amen, we'll sing then, in conclusion, in Psalm, 130, and 30, just what, Jairus was doing, I wait for God, verse 5, I wait for God, my soul doth wait, my hope is in his word, more than they that, for morning watch, my soul waits for the Lord,
[55:17] I say more than they that, to watch the morning light, to see, that Israel hope, in the Lord, for with him mercy's be, and plenteous redemption, is ever found with him, and from all his iniquities, Israel shall redeem, these three verses, to the Lord's praise, in conclusion, we'll stand to sing, I wait for God, my soul doth wait, my hope is in his word, more than they that, more than they that, more than they that, my soul waits for the Lord, I say more than they that, to watch, the morning light, to see, let his heart open, the Lord, all with him mercy's be, a plenty of redemption, and from all his iniquities, he is, the Lord, and from all his iniquities, he is, he is, he is, and shall redeem, could I ask Mr. Campbell, to pronounce the benediction, please, again.
[57:37] Amen. The grace of our Lord, Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all, now and whatever moment, every one, and so, amen.
[57:51] Amen. Amen.
[58:15] Amen.
