[0:00] Psalter, Psalm 4, and we sing verses marked 3 to 6, sorry, Psalm 40, Psalm 40, verse 3.
[0:14] He put a new song in my mouth, our God to magnify. Many shall see it and shall fear, and on the Lord rely.
[0:24] And we go down to verse 6. No sacrifice nor offering didst thou at all desire. Mine ears thou bored, sin offering thou unburnt didst not require.
[0:38] Psalm 40, verses 3 to 6. Our God to magnify.
[1:02] Many shall see it and shall fear, and on the Lord rely.
[1:20] O blessed is the man who trusts upon the Lord.
[1:37] He lies, respecting all the proud, nor such as pull aside to lies.
[1:59] O my God, who many are, the wonderful Lord.
[2:16] Thy willleh is entered to us. To londreétat, I shall keep ao life.
[2:29] All the votes are gone. No more long can reckon them.
[2:47] Till the earth let declare. And speak of them I would they more.
[3:06] Than can be numbered are. No sacrifice not offering.
[3:26] That thou all desire. Than will thy Lord say.
[3:41] Locked it. And christmas OLI. require.
[3:58] Let us bow our heads in prayer. Our gracious Father in heaven, we bow our heads and come before thee, the great God of all the earth, of whom we have been singing.
[4:17] You are the God who performs wonders and you alone are the God who is worthy to be worshipped for who you are and for what you have done.
[4:35] We have been singing that you put a new song in our mouth. Heavenly Father, give every one of us here tonight to know the new song and then we will sing it.
[4:53] We pray for your Holy Spirit this evening that he would reveal to us from your word the glory that you gave to your Son.
[5:05] That we might know him as our own personal Savior. The one who was wounded for our transgressions and bruised for our iniquities.
[5:16] The one of whom you have put our iniquities upon his head. O Lord, he is worthy to be loved, to be feared, to be honoured, to be worshipped, to be served.
[5:34] O gracious God, we pray for your Holy Spirit who is present amongst us. We pray that he would open our eyes and open our hearts to receive and to embrace your dear Son.
[5:54] Thank you that your word speaks about him. But open our eyes, our understanding, and our hearts that we might love him.
[6:06] That we might unite, be united to him. We ask for your Holy Spirit to do such a mighty, powerful work.
[6:19] O gracious God, we acknowledge that we are your creatures. That we are your fallen creatures.
[6:31] But we ask further, eternal God, that while you would show us our sinfulness and our sinnership, that above all, you would show us the efficacy of your Son and point out to us the work which he accomplished at the place called Calvary.
[6:53] We're going to read out of your word about what he has done for sinners. But open our eyes and understanding and our hearts to embrace him.
[7:05] We humbly pray. We confess we are utterly unworthy for such a privilege and such blessing. But Heavenly Father, that's why your Son came.
[7:20] That's why he endured such affliction so that sinners would believe and sinners would be turned unto your dear Son.
[7:33] Lord, our prayer is turn us and we shall be turned. Save us and we shall be saved. We ask once more, Lord, that you'd remember the nations of the world.
[7:49] We pray, Lord, for your suffering church amongst them. We worship you in the warmth of this building. You have many people in the cold tonight who will worship you despite being forbidden to do so by their governments such as their love for you, such as the grace you've given them.
[8:11] They persist in worshipping you. Blessed be your name. Feed them, teach them, bless them, hear their prayers, answer their petitions.
[8:25] We pray thee and graciously deliver them from their fierce enemies. We ask, Lord, that you may take down every evil system of evil.
[8:41] Lord, you know there are many evil people with power in this world. We pray that you would either convert these people or else remove them and replace them with those who fear your name.
[9:01] those who would legislate according to your word and your law. Take down evil systems.
[9:13] We know that wicked men can be replaced with other wicked men. But we ask, Lord, that wicked systems be broken down.
[9:25] Oh, Lord, raise up a new generation. Raise up a new race that would serve you throughout the whole world. Lord, do a mighty work in this generation.
[9:39] We cry to you. We acknowledge our utter unworthiness that you would hear our prayers. But for your own sake, for your own glory, graciously hear our petitions.
[9:55] We pray again for the poor and the needy. We pray for the lonely, the worried, the nervous. We pray for those that are going through trials and tribulations and facing horrific traumas of life, sadness, sorrow.
[10:13] Oh, gracious God, comfort those who mourn. Encourage the bereaved. Speak a word in season, that word that only you can speak to bring peace.
[10:27] Be pleased to bless medication, treatment, therapy, surgery, and all these aids. We pray bless them where they are available and where they're not available.
[10:39] Be pleased to heal and restore apart from any human means, if this be to your glory and to their good.
[10:51] Lord, Lord God, we pray for your church. We pray for your church everywhere. We ask you'd prosper it and bless it.
[11:05] We pray for vacant pulpits beginning where we're standing and you fill them, Lord, with your man, your messengers from heaven.
[11:17] Lord, we bow before you and we just ask that you'd be with this congregation as it meets in a few days' time. Preside. Preside.
[11:29] Rule. Appoint. Bless according to your will. Grant blessing, Lord, everywhere. We pray, Heavenly Father, that you'd bless every endeavor to spread the word, whether it be traditional, long-term, open-air outreach, whether it be gospel door-to-door visitation, whether it be new creative ways of spreading the gospel over the airwaves or on the internet.
[12:05] Bless every endeavor to spread the good news that a Savior has come into the world and show us his love and show us his beauty.
[12:16] bless the gospel. Bless evangelical witness to the truth. We humbly pray. Saving souls, sanctifying saints, subduing sinners.
[12:32] Oh, Lord, we turn to your word. We sing your word. We exhort from your word. We pray that you would convict.
[12:42] we pray that you would challenge those who are going down to the bottomless pit with a lie in their right hand. Plot them as brands from the burning, we pray thee.
[12:57] We pray for those who may be discouraged. Encourage such with your word. We pray for those who may be walking in darkness and have no light.
[13:09] Enlighten them with the light of the gospel. We pray for those who are weak. We ask, Lord, that you would strengthen. We pray, Lord, for the hungry soul and ask that you would feed the hungry soul.
[13:28] And, Lord, we pray for any wandering sheep. Stretch out that long arm of yours. Reach them in the far away country and bring them back to the fold.
[13:46] Heavenly Father, keep us all. Keep us in your love. Keep us in your fear. Wash all our sins away.
[13:56] For we pray all in Christ's name and for Christ's sake alone. Amen. we'll sing once more in the same psalm, psalm 40, Scottish Psalter, and we'll sing verses 8 to 10.
[14:17] Psalm 40, verse 8. To do thy will I take delight, O thou my God that art, yea, that most holy law of thine I have within my heart.
[14:33] And down to the second part of verse 10. Thy kindness, which most loving is, concealed have not I, nor from the congregation great, have hid thy verity.
[14:47] Psalm 40, verses 8 to 10. To do my will I take me thine know that my God thine art fear that most holy of mine I now will build my heart within that foundation love life means death is here Ist the need more he valt ho ministers to do止 on course do
[15:52] I never did within my heart cause me by righteousness.
[16:11] I, I, salvation, have me there, I show thy faithfulness.
[16:29] Thy kindness which most abideth, conceiveth hath not I, nor of my congregation great, have hid thy verity.
[17:02] Amen. Let's turn in our Bibles to, once more, to the Gospel of John, chapter 19.
[17:17] And we'll start reading from where we left off this morning, verse 19. The Gospel of John, chapter 19, at verse 19.
[17:29] And we'll read to the end of the chapter. And Pilate wrote a title and put it on the cross. And the writing was Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews.
[17:47] This title then read many of the Jews. For the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city. And it was written in Hebrew and Greek and Latin.
[18:01] Then said the chief priest of the Jews to Pilate, Write not the King of the Jews, but that he said, I am King of the Jews.
[18:15] Pilate answered, What I have written, I have written. Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments and made four parts to every soldier apart.
[18:31] And also his coat. Now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout. They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be, that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, they parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots.
[19:08] These things, therefore, the soldiers did. Now there stood by the cross of Jesus, his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary, the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.
[19:26] When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son.
[19:38] Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother. And from that hour, that disciple took her unto his own home.
[19:52] After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.
[20:09] Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar, and they filled a sponge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth. When Jesus, therefore, had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished.
[20:26] And he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost. The Jews, therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the Sabbath day, for that Sabbath day was a high day, besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.
[20:49] Then came the soldiers, and break the legs of the first, and of the other, which was crucified with them. But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they break not his legs.
[21:09] But one of the soldiers, with a spear, pierced his side, and forthwith came thereout blood and water.
[21:19] And he that saw it, bear record, and his record is true, and he knoweth, that he saith true, that ye might believe.
[21:32] For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled. A bone of him shall not be broken. And again, another scripture saith, they shall look on him, whom they pierced.
[21:52] And after this, Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly, for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate, that he might not take away, that he might take away, the body of Jesus.
[22:09] And Pilate gave him lever. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus. And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pound weight.
[22:27] Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes, with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury.
[22:38] Now, in the place where he was crucified, there was a garden, and in the garden, a new sepulcher, wherein was never man yet laid.
[22:52] There, laid the Jesus, therefore, because of the Jews' preparation day, for the sepulcher was nigh at hand.
[23:03] And may God bless to us, the very reading, of his own word. We'll sing once more to God's praise, from Psalm 40, this time, verses 11 to 14.
[23:20] Psalm 40, verses 11 to 14. Thy tender mercies, Lord, from me, O do thou not restrain, thy loving kindness, and thy truth, let them me still maintain.
[23:39] Down to verse 14. Shamed and confounded be they all, that seek my soul to kill. Yea, let them backward driven be, and shamed, that wish me ill.
[23:53] Psalm 40, verses 11 to 14. To God's praise. Amen. Let them pray. My thunder mercies are from me, O do that God Rusk may my galling kindness that I Let me still return For little stars can be compassed And my iniquities Shirt on upon me
[24:56] Till thou by the night of my eyes Before thou hearst thou on my head And still my heart is near Be peace and Lord who rescued me Lord, give strength to my dear If I'm calm, let me be there Oh, that's it my soul to him
[25:58] Give it as I will And still my heart is near And still my will be there Let's turn in our Bibles to the passage of Scripture which we read in the Gospel of John chapter 19 And as God would help me I'd like to concentrate on Four or five verses Verses 28 to 30 And then 36 and 37 I will read verses 28 to 30 first of all After this
[26:59] Jesus Knowing that all things were now accomplished That the Scripture might be fulfilled Saith I thirst Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar And they filled a sponge with vinegar And put it upon hyssop And put it to his mouth When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar He said It is finished And he bowed his head And gave up the ghost And also look again at verses 36 and 37 For these things were done That the Scripture should be fulfilled A bone of him shall not be broken And again another Scripture saith
[28:03] They shall look on him whom they pierced It's interesting The four Gospels Which are basically a history of Christ's life Which was what?
[28:23] 30 to 33 years It concentrates most of the writings in the four Gospels Concern his last week on earth And each of them Each of the four of them Give us details About his dying His suffering on the cross Surely that should be enough for us To understand It's very important It's not just It's not just a detail It's something that should be looked at seriously So may God help us As we look at this fourth account Of Christ's death On behalf of his people As we've said before What he came to do Why he was born For the specific reason That he could die And that he could die To bring his people to heaven I want to ask three questions
[29:26] That might help us look at it Number one When precisely When precisely Or even Why precisely Did Jesus say I thirst Secondly What exactly Took place When he said It is finished What was finished?
[29:52] And then thirdly Why These things Took place First of all then When precisely Did Jesus say I thirst?
[30:08] Verse 28 Tells us After This Jesus Knowing That all things Would be accomplished Knowing Knowing Note that Very carefully He's not unconscious He's not subconscious Yes He's wracked With pain But he's knowing Full well What is happening He is in full control Full control Of his mental faculties Now He said I thirst But listen He was thirsting Long Before He made this announcement It's been worked out But I've forgotten the exact time I think it's 48 hours Since he would have had a drink He was thirsting He was thirsting
[31:09] For a long time But at this moment Knowing Knowing Something He said I thirst Knowing That all Things Were now Accomplished All What things All The prophecies Concerning His death Let's just mention Just four of them It was Prophesied In the Old Testament That he would be sold For 30 pieces of silver That prediction Was accomplished It had taken place It was written In the Old Testament The disciples Would forsake him And flee That Had taken place That Was accomplished
[32:10] It was written And prophesied In the Old Testament He would be numbered With the transgressors Well Did we not read Already Was it last week He was A thief on the left And a thief on the right Thief on the right He was numbered With them That Was accomplished That took place It was predicted And written About him In the Old Testament They would cast lots For his cloths For his raiment That was accomplished Now I've just mentioned Four Jesus On the cross Albeit Wracked With pain Knowing All These Things Were accomplished That's what verse 28 says Knowing that all These things Were now accomplished That the scripture Might be fulfilled That the scripture Might be fulfilled
[33:12] Saith I Thirst Where is that scripture Written That he would say I thirst I can't find it It's not actually written But what is written Is this In Psalm 69 Verse 21 It was written For my thirst They gave me Vinegar to drink To drink Psalm 69 Verse 21 A prediction A prophecy About what Christ Would do At his death Say at his death But you see They hadn't done that But Christ Knowing In full control Of his mental faculties He said There's one scripture That has not been fulfilled They're to give me vinegar
[34:15] To drink And from the cross Wrapped with pain He says They're not doing it They're not giving me They're not fulfilling The scripture But That The scripture So that The scripture Might be fulfilled He saith I thirst And then they said Oh well let's give him vinegar To drink That will increase his thirst You see From the cross Racked with pain He's orchestrating All everything He's organising everything He's still God He was saying to himself Look they're not giving me The vinegar to drink I must make them Give me the vinegar to drink To drink So That The scripture Might be fulfilled He said I'm thirsty
[35:18] Maybe he saw The bottles The vinegar skins Down there And he said Oh that scripture's to be fulfilled It's not happening I'll make them Give it to me From the cross Wrapped with pain See See How every word The bible says Must Take Place That's precisely When He said I thirst To make them Give the vinegar To them From the cross He's in control To make them Give the vinegar To them From the cross He's in control Knowing Is precisely What was accomplished What had taken place And what was yet to take place He was controlling things Second question Second question What precisely What exactly Took place When he said It is finished
[36:19] Verse 30 When Jesus therefore Had received the vinegar He said It Is Finished And he bowed his head And gave up The ghost The ghost It's vital That we grasp When he said It is finished This was not a cry Of complaint No He gave his back To the smiters This is not either Is it A cry for mercy He knew there was to be none Neither of course Is it a cry of defeat Defeat It's a cry of victory Not a cry of defeat We must never think That this cry It is finished Was the last gasp Of a worn out life No, no, no
[37:21] That's not the type of cry it was It wasn't a cry Oh, I'm glad that's all over now No, no, no No, no, no No, no It was not the cry Of a helpless martyr Who have shown before Christ was orchestrating things He knew what was doing He knew what he was to go through Yes, being a human You knew it was to be awful But he was determined to do it And he did it intentionally Now He cried out With a loud voice Now listen Dying men Do not shout With a loud voice If they speak at all It's under their breath In a whisper This is not normal This is not normal
[38:24] And the centurion Knew that When he heard it That's not the way Crucified men die The centurion Obviously was Well, probably The centurion In charge of crucifixions And this particular Friday afternoon There was three He knew He knew what the procedure was He knew what normally He knew what normally Happened to men And how crucified men Passed away And he saw This is not normal This is not normal He cried out It is Finished What Was finished The prophecies of scripture Concerning his death That was now Finished Everything took place As predicted As prophesied As promised The work Given him to do
[39:27] I think we mentioned in the morning The covenant he made with his father His father said to him in a past eternity I'll give you these people These people are yours They're yours I present them Or as Professor Murray would say I donate them To you They're yours Provided You go through the agonies of Calvary Provided you atone For every one of their sins So it is finished In a real way He'd kept the covenant Which he made with his father Father It's finished It's finished It's kept It's complete Let my people go Atonement For the sins All the sins Of every person Who will be in heaven Has been paid for Completely Atoned for
[40:29] Without exception Everyone Paid for In full And now His people Are free It is finished The promises Concerning him The work Given him to do The price Of substitutionary Atonement Is It's It's It's finished Hallelujah Praise the Lord You and I Can now Get to heaven Upon repentance And faith In Jesus Christ Now When he said It is finished Changes Changes Took place In the human world In the natural world And in the spiritual world Things happened Changes took place
[41:32] For example The centurion When The centurion When The centurion Recorded In Mark's gospel When He saw That Jesus So cried Out Then He Glorified God He was Transformed He was made A new creature In Christ He was Regenerated Matthew Sorry Mark 1539 The centurion The centurion He was A normal Natural Sinful Human Being But when He saw That he so Cried out It is Finished He said That's not normal That's not new That's not how Crucified men
[42:34] Normally die And he Glorified God He said He said Certainly He was a Righteous Man And it Changed his Nature He still Remained a Human being But a Regenerated Human being A Changed Person And my Friend However Corrupt You may be However Depraved You may be You can be A new Creature By seeing Christ Dying For sin You can be Made a new Person It changed The centurion Who saw Plenty Crucifixions Normal Friday Afternoons Work Possibly But when he Saw That man In the Centercross He's a Righteous
[43:35] Man Everything he Said was Real And true Things happened In the human World Changed Human Nature Into Regenerated Santified Human Nature Things also Happened In the Natural World When he cried Out on the cross It is finished The natural world I think we could See cracked The rocks Rent The sun Darkened And went into Morning You could say The earth Shook There was an Earthquake There was an Earthquake The rocks split Open Do you remember Do you remember Jesus said On one occasion If this Should happen The very Stones Would cry Out Do you remember He said that Do you remember The occasion
[44:36] He said If these Should hold Their peace The stones Will cry Out That's what's Happening here That's happened When he cried Out It is finished The rocks Rent Because The sun People Held He said If these Should hold Their peace You feel like Saying Peter Weren't you the spokesman For Christ Weren't you the first To stand up for him Where are you Where are you Now Where are you Now Well we know Peter was backsliding James John His three Special Disciples They Held Their peace And that was a prediction Christ himself Made Was it not If these Should hold Their peace The very Stones Should cry Out And the rocks
[45:37] Rent When it was finished When it was accomplished When every word That was prophesied Came through The rocks rent The sun went into mourning The sun darkened In the heavens And the earth Shook Things happened in the human world Things happened in the natural world But also Things happened in the spiritual realm The veil of the temple Was rent in twain You've read it often haven't we Now Try and picture the scene The temple Is some distance away It's three o'clock in the afternoon The priests Are busy Busy Busy
[46:38] Busy At that time With all the sacrifices going on And all of a sudden Darkness Three o'clock in the afternoon Comes Pitched black And then there's this ripping Tearing noise The veil of the temple The curtain It was ripped in two Not from the bottom To the top From the top To the bottom And that curtain Was not A couple of centimeters thick It was very very thick It could only be torn apart like that Well it started up in heaven It's a heavenly work It's a heavenly work It was a spiritual work The curtain Rending apart That is the curtain To the inner sanctuary And we are told in Hebrews chapter 9
[47:39] Verse 8 The Holy Spirit Thus signifying The temple The temple Being rent in twain When he cried out It is finished The Holy Spirit Was signifying The Old Testament system Was finished And now There was direct access to God Through Christ Just mention Christ's name And you can speak To God Do you know that?
[48:17] Do you know that? It doesn't matter who you are As long as you are a sinner As long as you are a sinner You can speak directly to God If you mention Christ's name reverently Because the curtain was rent in two To the Holy Spirit The Holy Spirit Thus signifying Because Christ cried out It is finished We no longer have to go through that temple We no longer have to be like the Ethiopian eunuch Travelling from Ethiopia To worship God in Jerusalem You don't need to go to a certain place You don't need to go to a priest You can just speak to God Where you are
[49:19] If you mention the name of Christ And you will be heard If you ask God For Christ's sake To pardon your sins Because he said It is finished You will be heard You will be answered Your sins will be forgiven Because it is finished The atonement The substitutionary payment For sin has been made And finished on the cross Things happen in the human world Things happen in the natural world Things happen in the spiritual world And they are all glorious They are all glorious They are all life saving They are all blessed And he bowed his head
[50:23] And gave up the ghost He bowed his head He bowed his head He bowed his head Apparently I have not seen it of course But I have read about it Crucified men Do not bow down their heads Crucified men Lift up their heads Are they all ending They'll Growing up their heads They're all They lift up their heads gasping for breath Christ knowing everything, knowing what has happened, knowing what is happening, knowing what is to happen, bowed his head intentionally, purposely and gave up the ghost, gave up his spirit, he did not expire, he laid down his life that you and I might have life, he laid down his life or as someone once said he dismissed his spirit, his own spirit dismissed it in full control of his faculties, consciously from the cross orchestrating all that was happening. Well, it's real, it's true and it's for our benefit, it's for your benefit, make use of it. Third question we were to ask, why these things took place? Verses 36 and 37. For these things were done, that this scripture should be fulfilled. A bone of him shall not be broken. And again another scripture saith, they shall look on him whom they pierced.
[52:50] Think about it, it's amazing. The soldiers receive instructions from the highest in the land.
[53:01] The, I think we could say that the most powerful person in the world at the moment was Pontius Pilate, the governor of Rome. The Roman Empire appointed Pilate to be governor and he had authority. And from his chair, his seat, he gives the orders, break their bones.
[53:24] The two criminals, and they break the bones of the two criminals, side and each side of Christ. And they come to obey the governor, to obey Rome, to break the bones of the man in the middle cross.
[53:44] And they're as it were, could we say 18 inches of breaking his bones with authority from the highest authority in the world at the time, with an 18 inches of obeying the command. And they don't do it.
[54:01] They don't do it. Why? Because it is written, a bone of his will not be broken.
[54:12] They can't do it. Conversely, there's no authority from Rome, no authority from Rome, no authority from Pontius Pilate's seat. No orders are given to pierce his side. And has it ever been known that they would pierce the side of a crucified man?
[54:57] No orders are given, but they do that. A most unusual thing. Why? Because it is written.
[55:12] What's written in scripture is true. Every word. It's real. And it's for us. These things are written that we might believe.
[55:32] Verse 37. I'm sure you've heard of A.W. Pink. He's actually buried in Sandwick Cemetery there, but he was a very well-known writer, Christian writer.
[55:49] And he has some very interesting things to say about verse 37. You notice in verse 37, first of all, these things were done that the scripture should be fulfilled.
[56:02] A bone of him shall not be broken. But look at verse 37. And again, another scripture saith, they shall look on him whom they pierced.
[56:15] Note, it doesn't say in verse 37 what it says in verse 36, that the scripture might be fulfilled. But it says that the scripture saith, they shall look on him whom they pierced.
[56:34] I wonder why. Why does verse 37 say that the scripture says, but in verse 36 it says the scripture shall be fulfilled.
[56:45] Because verse 36 is referring to his bones being broken. That's finished. That's all over. They weren't broken. They got their chance.
[56:56] The whole world, the most powerful authority in the world issues the orders to do it, but they can't do it. But you see, in verse 37, they shall look, the scripture says, they shall look on him whom they have pierced.
[57:13] That's not finished. That's not finished. That's to continue. It started then, but it's not fulfilled. It's not over.
[57:24] It's not finished. You and I have to do it. What do we do at the Lord's table? What are we doing at the Lord's supper? But looking on him who is pierced.
[57:37] Tell me, what will we be doing throughout all eternity? Looking on him who is pierced.
[57:48] That's never to end. That's never to stop. So we see, once more, don't we, every word, every detail of scripture is accurate and to be believed.
[58:07] And it's there for a purpose. And that purpose is for your good and my good. Well, what's the conclusion of the whole matter?
[58:18] What does all this mean? When Christ cried, it is finished. For the world, it means Satan is defeated.
[58:33] He's no longer in total control of the world. He's no longer this greatest force there is. Evil is defeated.
[58:44] The grace of God is more powerful than the evil of sin. And you remember that. However sinful, however evil you see something, remember there's something greater.
[58:58] There's something more powerful. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ. Sin is defeated. Hell is defeated.
[59:10] Christ is king. That's what it means. And that's, the world has to know that.
[59:22] And the world has to learn it. Tell me, what does it mean for us? What does it mean for you?
[59:36] It means sin can be forgiven. That's what it means. Your sin. Your sin can be forgiven.
[59:47] It means you need no longer be under the power of sin. It means salvation is a reality.
[60:01] Heaven is a reality. It's for you. For me. That's what it means. These things are written for our learning.
[60:14] And for our salvation. And for our good. Now the last two verses in the chapter. Joseph and Nicodemus do something.
[60:29] Tell me. Let's be close. What are you going to do about it? Joseph and Arimathea did something about it.
[60:42] Something good. What are you going to do about it? Whatever you do. Whatever you do.
[60:55] Look on him who was pierced. Believe on him who was pierced.
[61:07] Whatever you do. Love him who was pierced. Whatever you do. Follow him who was pierced.
[61:20] Who was wounded for our transgressions. And bruised for our iniquities. May God the Holy Spirit.
[61:32] Unite us in living faith. To his son. The Lord Jesus Christ. Let's bow our heads in prayer.
[61:45] Our father in heaven. Be pleased to take the things of Christ. And make them ours tonight.
[61:55] At the place called Calvary. Bring us there. Drop us there. Unite us there. Keep us there.
[62:07] Bless us there. Forgive us there. Make us new creatures in Christ there. For we pray all. In Christ's name.
[62:18] And for Christ's sake. Amen. Amen. We conclude our service.
[62:31] By singing. To God's praise. From the Scottish shelter. But from Psalm 22. Psalm 22. And we'll sing from verse 22.
[62:45] To verse 25. Four stanzas. Psalm 22. At verse 22. I will show forth thy name.
[62:58] And to those that my brethren are. Amidst the congregation. Thy praise I will declare. Down to verse 25.
[63:08] Within the congregation great. My praise shall be of thee. My vows. Before them that in fear.
[63:19] Shall be performed. By me. Psalm 22. Verse 22. To God's praise. Is there a hundred and siellä?
[63:39] EBITDA III. Oh, Mr. Kong, be gracious, like this I will declare.
[64:03] Then ye that are good and dear, and glorify your dear.
[64:22] The world's kingdom, the kingdom, and the Lord, that in the earth shall not be.
[64:42] Glory, His eyes are adored, O let it be seen.
[65:01] Now, Rame, His face but heard, when He to Him decry.
[65:22] When the cross griege, my rest shall be only.
[65:41] Never as before Him, I leave thee.
[65:54] herzlich by Thee. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us all now and forevermore.
[66:22] Amen.
