[0:00] 1 Corinthians 11, verse 23 Do this as often as you drink it in remembrance of me.
[0:34] For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes. And especially looking at the words of the Lord when he instituted the supper.
[0:49] Do this as my body, which is for you. Because we have it in the old translation, which is broken for you. Do this in remembrance of me.
[1:02] In the same way also if you could cup after the supper of saying this, the new covenant in my blood. It is as often as you drink it in remembrance of me. And the first thing that we have to look at is a remembrance of death.
[1:20] A remembrance of again. And secondly, the blood of the new covenant. And thirdly, the gospel of forgiveness.
[1:31] The gospel of forgiveness. Muchly coming to the remembrance of Eden. And to the Lord's son. Who is a remembrance of Jesus.
[1:45] And a remembrance of what Jesus accomplished on behalf of his people. It is not only.
[1:56] It is not only. It is not only. Not only that the Lord suffered as a remembrance to us. For Jesus. But it also explains his death.
[2:11] It also explains his death to us. Which sheds light for us. On what was behind the events that brought about his death.
[2:25] The events that brought about his death. It was not. It was not. It was not an event. It was not an event that was out of place.
[2:36] In the history of the world. An event that subtly intervened. On the world. Unexpected. It was not an event. It was not an event that was out of place.
[2:50] In the history of the world. It was not a. What one would call. A dark blow. That one cannot explain.
[3:04] Neither was it a deathly blow inflicted. A deathly blow inflicted by ungodly men. Just simply to do away.
[3:16] With Christ. And his kingdom. Within the world. That was not. What his death. Was.
[3:27] A part. But his death was simply a fulfillment. Of Christ's. Mission. The mission that took him into this world.
[3:38] His death was a fulfillment of that mission. And would become. A blessing. To the whole. Of the world. That would be made. A blessing.
[3:48] To the whole of the world. What we see. What we see. Maybe. With an eye. As a. Leave a light. As a leave a light.
[4:01] God. Meant it for good. And he meant it. For the redemption. Of. The many. For the redemption of the men.
[4:12] It is almost. It is almost. It is almost. It is almost as if Jesus is saying. When he instituted the supper. When he instituted the Lord's supper. I am the Passover lamb.
[4:25] Of God's. Of God's Israel. From this moment. From this moment onwards. I will protect them.
[4:36] From death. And I will nourish their souls. Through this. Broken body. For I am.
[4:49] The bread of life. For I am the bread of life. Now. Now. These words. These words. That we hear. Other. Every time. That we. Sit at the Lord's table.
[5:02] These words. Are. These truths. Are familiar to us. We are familiar with them. But as far as the disciples were concerned. They were new. Words to them.
[5:17] And because we are familiar with these truths. We very often. Think along the lines. When we sit at the Lord's table. That it is Christ's death.
[5:30] That explains. To us. What we are partaking in. When we. Partake of the Lord's table. We are so familiar with these truths.
[5:41] That we. Can think along these lines. We start thinking along these lines. And we. Start thinking. Oh yes. It's the actual sermon. It's the actual sermon. Explaining to us.
[5:52] About Christ's death. This is what. Really. Enlightens our mind. And what we are partaking in. When we are partaking of the Lord's table. But no. You put yourself.
[6:03] You put yourself. In the place of. The disciples. On that night. That. Jesus instituted. The Lord's. So. And these words. Were new to them.
[6:15] And what was happening. It was the Lord's. Supper. That was explaining. The death. Of Jesus. And you look at the words.
[6:26] That he uttered. And these were words. That were looking. That were pointing. The minds. Of the disciples. Forwards. To. His death.
[6:42] Here he says. This. Is. My body. This. Is. My blood. And then he is revealing to us.
[6:54] That these are two elements. That are united. In life. Body and blood. They are united.
[7:05] In life. And they cannot be separated. Except by death. And especially. A death.
[7:16] Where the shedding of blood. Is involved. Such as. A sacrificial death. Which involved. And that is what he is. He was teaching to them.
[7:28] And that is what he is teaching to us. And we should. And we should remember that. When we are sitting in the Lord's. And when we are partaking in the Lord's. He.
[7:39] Is teaching us. That whose death. Whose body. Whose blood. Was going to be part of. And. That meant. That his death.
[7:49] Was going to be a sacrificial death. Which involved the shedding of blood. And then what Jesus. And what Jesus. Talks about his body. And he says. This is my body.
[8:01] That is broken. For you. What is he telling us? He is telling us. That he is willing. Giving.
[8:12] To his body. To be broken. For me. And for you. And then. When he says. About.
[8:23] Then when he starts talking about his blood. And he says. This is. My blood. The blood of the new coming.
[8:38] Or to put it another way. As it says. As we have it in the. A.V. In the old translation. The blood of the new testament. This is my blood.
[8:50] The blood. Of the new testament. What is he revealing to us there? Well. He is revealing to us this. But where there is.
[9:03] A testament. Or as we have ours now. As we have it in the. Chapter that we read. Chapter 9. In Hebrews. Where there is. A testament. Of where there is a will.
[9:15] There must. Of necessity. Be. The death. Of the testator. Of the one who made the will. Because as we have written. In chapter 9.
[9:26] In Hebrews. As long as the person. Has made the will. As long as he is living. Then nobody. Can benefit. From that will.
[9:38] Much. More or less. What he was saying. This is. The blood. This is my blood. Blood of the new covenant. The blood of the new testament. And. If. There is a testament.
[9:50] Of course. Then. There must. Of necessity. Be. The death. Of the testator. But so. When he.
[10:01] When he uses. When he uses. The word. New. It brings. To the old covenant. To the old covenant.
[10:12] Reminds us. Of the old covenant. And that the old covenant. Was established. Through. The shedding of blood. And the blood.
[10:25] Was sprinkled. As we were reading. On the altar. On the pencil. On the book. And it was called. The blood. Of the covenant.
[10:37] And that is exactly. What Christ is teaching us. That. That who is beloved. The shedding of. Whose blood.
[10:47] Was establishing. A new. Covenant. A new covenant. And. He is almost saying. He is. More or less saying. To his disciples.
[10:59] Keep your eyes. Of Calvary. On the things. That are going to happen there. Fix your eyes. On Calvary. On the things.
[11:09] That are going to happen there. No. The amazing thing is. The amazing thing is this. But when we remember. Any passion.
[11:21] We remember. That passion. Because. Of his. Of her life. But because of something. Significant. It did. In the lives.
[11:33] For instance. We have the burn supper. Every year. As a remembrance. Of all the burns. And as a remembrance. Of. When people look to us.
[11:46] Have it been a great poet. Remember. Bell. For inventing. The television. Logan. Heard. For inventing. The television. Fleming.
[11:57] For inventing. Penicill. And so on. There is this remembrance. Of these people. Do we remember. The death.
[12:07] Of anybody. Within a word. No. Nobody is remembered. From the death. But because of the death.
[12:19] That is what Jesus. Is telling us. So. As we. Partain. To this bread. And drink.
[12:30] To this wine. Time. You are remembering. My death. Until. I come. And there is no. Passion. Within the history. Of the world.
[12:42] Whose death. Is our remembrance. To us. Except Jesus. Which brings us. To the second thing. That we have here. And that is.
[12:53] The blood. Of the new covenant. This does not. Mean. That we forget. His life. That we forget. Jesus' life.
[13:04] That we forget. His miracles. But the. The thing is this. That without. His death. Without. His death.
[13:16] His life. And his miracles. Would have. Little significance. For his people. Yes. We would remember. That here.
[13:27] Was a perfect man. Without sin. Who lived. A perfect life. And before. And before. Without. Without. Using. Magical power.
[13:39] But that's as far. As it would go. And when Jesus. Says here. God. This is my body. That is broken.
[13:52] For you. What does he say to us? That his death. Is going to purchase. A great blessing. For his people.
[14:05] And then. We quote from Matthew. Chapter 26. In verse 48. Where he says. For this is my blood. Blood.
[14:19] Of the new covenant. That is shed for many. For the remission of sins. He is revealing to us there. The great blessing.
[14:31] That his death was for the purchase. And therefore. It is because of this. That his death. Is worthy.
[14:42] Of being remembered. By us. His death is worthy. Of being remembered. By us. These are new works. Establishing.
[14:53] A new age. And through them. Jesus. Is revealing to us. That his death. Was going to be. A sacrifice.
[15:04] For sin. Purchasing. The blessing. Of forgiveness.
[15:17] For those. Who would come. To believe in his name. A forgiveness. That would. In fact. Upon the conscience.
[15:29] Of the person. Who would receive it. A forgiveness. That would impact. Upon the conscience. Or the person. Who would receive it. Something.
[15:40] Of the blood. Of the blood. Of bones. And of gold. As we were waiting. Could not. Do it be. And this is the blessing. That he has purchased.
[15:52] For me and you. And in the light of. In the light of. These things. In Jesus name. His blood.
[16:02] As the blood of the new covenant. That brings us back to. The new covenant. That was promised. By Jeremiah. The prophet. That God promised.
[16:14] Through Jeremiah. The prophet. This is the new covenant. That God. Makes. With his new. Israel. Who is the church.
[16:26] Of Jesus Christ. This is the new covenant. That he has made. Why do we call it. A new covenant. Well we call it.
[16:38] A new covenant. Because it's a covenant. Of grace. And the promises. Belonging to this covenant. Are free. From the laws.
[16:50] Upon. Which. The promises. Of the old covenant. Were founded. You could only. Fulfill the promises.
[17:01] That belong to the old covenant. If you obeyed the law. Perfect. And of course. None of us could do that. But the promises. Of this new covenant.
[17:13] Are free. From these laws. And there are. Three special blessings. Attached to this new covenant. Government. But he is bringing it. Right to us here. The first one is. That the law.
[17:24] Is to be written. From the hearts. Of the members. Of this new covenant. No longer written. On tablets. Of stone.
[17:37] The second blessing. Is that the knowledge. Of God. Is to be simplified. Through this new covenant. Because the worship. Of the worship. Of the worship. Of the worship. Of the worship. That is connected.
[17:47] With this new covenant. Is free. From the washings. And the sacrifices. That were involved. In the Levitical worship. Knowledge of God. Is simplified.
[17:58] And the third. Of final blessing. Is. The forgiveness. Of sin. That cleanses.
[18:09] It's gift. From the conscience. It is connected. And tied up. With this. New covenant.
[18:20] With this. New covenant. And in. Jesus. In Jesus. Maybe. He mentioned. Of.
[18:34] His blood. And the new covenant. At one. And the same. Time. He is teaching. To us. That.
[18:46] It is through. The fulfillment. Of the old covenant. That the new. Will be established. The new.
[18:57] Will be established. In the same way. As the old. Was established. Through sacrifice. Through sacrifice. And what we've got to realize.
[19:14] Is this. What we've got to realize. Is this. That no. No. No. Can ever.
[19:25] Receive forgiveness. Without. Push. The shedding. The shedding of blood. Without. The shedding of blood.
[19:36] There would be. No remission. No remission. No remission. No remission. No remission. No remission. And when Jesus. Tells his disciples.
[19:48] To drink. Of this cup. That he was placing. In the hands. For his. Sacrament. That after. Whose death.

[20:10] Well. Let's put it. This way. This. This. Sin. Offering. That. Involved. Blood. Was. Going.
[20:21] To be. Transformed. Into. A. Tax. Offering. Of. Wine. That. Would. Be. Named. As. The. Cup. Of. Salvation.

Sacrifice. it was no self in our spirit it was all done for a true and when we lay hold on it leaves us without any doubt whatsoever that this sacrifice has got the power to redeem us and enrich your lives you remember when you came to that knowledge that it was for me that this Jesus was slaved over his life and it didn't leave you in any doubt whatsoever of the power of this sacrifice to save you and enrich your life none whatsoever and it's at that very point that you and I can say
[28:03] I have been crucified with Christ and that's Professor Bruce who was a professor in the church many years ago as he put it as he put it he says it is almost as if Jesus is saying I will not save sinners by turning the law aside that connects sin to the penalty of death this is not the way I am going to save sin I set aside the law that connects sin to the penalty of death but if I am going to fulfill this salvation and complete this salvation then what am I going to do how am I going to do it by being willing myself to become a victim of the law become a victim of this law and that's what we need to do the law the law that he gave himself he was willing to be made a victim of to become a victim of and when we look at this forgiveness that comes through this atonement or reconciliation what does it reveal to us it reveals to us the righteousness and the love of God and the justice that is associated with both
[29:58] God remains true to his justice and Jesus himself said how did he put it again he to whom much has been forgiven loves much but it is just as true if we turn it around the other way if we turn it around the other way you and I need to see how much it cost the one who purchased forgiveness for us how much it cost if we are going to have a great love for him and when you partake of the
[31:16] Lord's supper next Lord's day morning well do so meditating upon the tears upon the affliction upon the shame upon the sweat that was pouring as great drops of blood to the ground upon the pain upon the pushing upon the crushing that he had to endure so that you and I would experience the forgiveness of sin and that my friend will await him within your heart a love for the Lord and let us finish with this there was no other way that he could purchase his blessing of forgiveness for you or for me except this way no other way aren't we a privileged people to be partaking of such a great privilege as sitting down at the Lord's supper breaking of the symbols of a broken body and shed blood may you be blessed and if you have not yet taken a step and may the Lord enlighten your mind to the extent that he will make you weary in a day of his power let us pray to be thankful that we have such a gospel to be thankful for the wonder of grace that truly transforms our lives that we would be thankful for such a savior and for such a high priest set over the church of God and that we would be thankful for the security that the covenant brings to us and Lord help us to truly seek the room anointed to be upon us so that we would be able to appreciate the wonder of the transformation that you bring about in the lives of sinners
[33:59] Lord help us to be thankful before you as we partake of you to suffer and as we remember you death until you come and Lord that we would be thankful that you will come and that there is no doubt whatsoever that you will come for the second time and that you will receive your people and to yourself Lord protect us keep us up until that point from bringing any shame or dishonor to your name or to your cause forgive us for our sins accept us graciously in Christ and all that we ask that we would do so in his name and for the sake Amen
