Fourfold Ministry of the Holy Ghost

[0:00] And how long did you have that cast? Nine years? One year. Been a whole year. Been a whole year.

[0:13] Amen. Praise the Lord. Good Lord to go down for that testimony. He is a God that heals.

[0:25] Amen. Malachi 3 and 6 says, I am the Lord God and I change not. Hebrews 13 and 8 said, Jesus Christ is same yesterday, today and forever. Amen. And God's not a respecter person.

[0:36] If he ever did heal anybody, he still heals because he doesn't change. Amen. Hallelujah. And there's power in prayer. That is the greatest weapon that God has ever given to his church, to his people, to his warriors, is the power of prayer.

[0:52] And yet, that is the less or the least used of anything we do. We pray less. You know why? Because we don't think there's any power in the words we speak.

[1:04] But even Solomon wrote in Proverbs, he said, The power of death and life is in your tongue. Amen. That's why Paul came along in Romans 10, and he said, If we will confess with our mouth the Lord Jesus Christ, and believe in our heart that God has raised him from the dead, we shall be saved.

[1:24] Amen. Amen. And then Paul came along and actually Luke wrote it, but Paul said it in the book of Acts. He said, Whosoever shall call upon the name.

[1:35] How do you call? Use your mouth. Call on the name of the Lord. That reminds me of like a ship that is sinking.

[1:45] And you begin to call and to cry out. If there's somebody that can help you, you don't just say, Hey, could I get some help over here?

[2:01] But you begin to cry out from your innermost being, Help me. I'm sinking. I'm drowning. Amen. And out of that cry of despair, Hallelujah. You can give that halloo cry or that halloo cry, and God will come down and rescue you.

[2:17] Amen. I was dying. I was sinking. I was going under for the third time, and Jesus Christ heard my cry, and he came down, and he saved my soul.

[2:27] Praise God. He put me in my right mind. He clothed me with his righteousness. Amen. He washed me with his blood, filled me with his spirit. He gave me, he said, Now look at that prize.

[2:39] I said, Don't you take your eye off of it. Amen. I like to play golf. That's my bad habit. The very first thing, don't nothing else matter when you play golf, but one thing, don't take your eye off the ball.

[2:50] If you do, anything else you do is not going to help you. And the same thing is, if you're going to be a Christian, never take your eyes off of Jesus, because if you do, you get your eyes off of him, then nothing else in your life is going to work right.

[3:01] Can you say amen? Amen. I want to talk this morning about the fourfold ministry of the Holy Spirit. Can somebody say amen? Hallelujah. The fourfold ministry of the Holy Spirit of God.

[3:12] I'm only going to talk on one of these this morning, and it won't take very long here, the Lord willing, but somebody, every once in a while I say, Brother Ben, how do you know all those scriptures you know?

[3:24] Well, the way I know them is because I go over them, and over them, and over them, and I repeat them, and I read them, and I write them, and I use them. Amen. How many of those know is that what you use, you'll remember, just because you do it over and over.

[3:40] Anybody ever go to school, and you had to learn, you know, like, I remember the, I think it's sixth grade, I had to learn the, what, the preamble to the Constitution, and Lincoln's Gettysburg Address, you know, don't ask me why, you know, I remember that fourscore, and seven years ago, our forefathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition, that all men are created equal, and now we're engaged in the great civil war, testing world of that nation, any nation so conceived, or so dedicated, can long endure, how do you remember all that?

[4:14] Let me tell you, I wrote it down, and I read it, and then I write it down again, and the more that I wrote it down, the more I could remember it, until finally, here it is, you know, 50, you know, almost 45 years later, I can still remember, you know, the beginning of Lincoln's Gettysburg Address, so, if you want to learn the word of God, read it, write it down, look at it, memorize it, meditate on it, so that when you do go into a spiritual battle, you can pull out your sword, in Ephesians 6, 18, he said, in taking, taking the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God, amen, whereby, you know, you can, you can defeat all your enemies, can somebody say amen, but anyway, I'm going to talk about, the Holy Ghost, the Holy Ghost, Holy Ghost, this isn't Halloween, so we're not talking about real, you know, that, that kind of ghost, another word for ghost is spirit, there are many spirits in the land, when Lucifer fell, his tale drew a third part, of the angels, and those, spirit angels, that were angels in heaven, when they came down to the earth, they became demonic forces, and, and now they're down here, under the control of Lucifer himself, to keep you and I, from getting back, to where, he was cast out of, amen, how many wants to go to heaven, you know, all you got to do, listen, it is so simple, you know, it's good, if you're going to be a preacher, to understand some of this stuff, but you don't have to understand, everything I know, to go to heaven, all you have to do, is say,

[5:39] Jesus, will you forgive me, can you, can you forgive me, of my sins, because I'm sorry, I did it, and, and he said, if we will confess our sin, and not that, man, I remember, when I first got saved, and they said, confess your sin, I thought, there's not enough time, I can't remember, all the sin, that I've done, I can't remember everything, and so I said, Jesus, would you just please, forgive me of my sins, have mercy upon me, and you know what, blanket coverage, because I wasn't saying, it from my lips, wasn't saying it to be seen, I wasn't saying it for anybody, but I realized, that I was lost, and I was dying, and I could see hills fire, and I could feel it burning me, and I said, I don't want to go there, and I didn't have to go there, amen, because I called on Jesus, and he heard my cry, amen, and he saved me, hallelujah, he saved me, thank you Jesus, hallelujah, just so sweet, to trust in Jesus, just to take him at his word, amen, the Holy Spirit, and like I said, there are many spirits, and demonic spirits, or demon spirits, are fallen angels, but there is a Holy Spirit, a Holy Ghost of God, amen, and the Holy Spirit, as in relationship to us, is the third person, of the one triune Godhead, that God is a father, and you can't deny, because there's too much scripture, to back it up, that God is a son, it says, it says, you should call his name,

[7:03] Emmanuel, which means God with us, and then he gives you, certain scriptures, like Jesus Christ, was believed on in the earth, and seen of angels, and received up into heaven, you know, and this all is referring back, to Jesus Christ, being God on the earth, and then Jesus said, I'm going away, but if I go away, I'm going to pray the Father, who's going to send you another comforter, amen, and that comforter, that was going to come, amen, see Jesus said, he said, I'm with you, but the one I'm going to send, is not only going to be with you, but he is going to be inside of you, amen, so what that means, that when the day of Pentecost, he said, tarry here until you get it, amen, and once you get that inside of you, he said, that will never leave you, nor forsake you, once you get that spirit of God, inside of you, you can turn from God, and go out, and enter the world again, and die, and still go to hell, but in hell, you're going to be remembering, one day, that spirit of God, that's inside of you, you're going to say, one day, you were saved, one day, you didn't have to do this, and honey, you're talking about some, you know what, you know what the rich man was doing, in Luke 19, when he was in hell, sure he was crying, and he was begging Abraham, to send Lazarus down there, and to put his finger in the water, because he was tormented in that flame, but honey, he was repenting, for all the opportunities, that he had had, he could have been feeding Lazarus, instead of Lazarus begging, for the crumbs that came from his table, amen, we miss a lot of opportunities, and we need to look, and see what kind of opportunities, that God is giving us, so that we won't have to wind up, like the rich man, in hell, repenting, and crying out, for God to have mercy, can somebody shout amen,

[8:32] I don't know, if I'm going to be able, to do anything this morning, I can't keep my eyes from water, praise the Lord, but the Holy Ghost, this is the third person, of the God, let me just read, some of those things, I've written down here, he's the author, of regeneration, regeneration, the word regeneration, means, he's the one, that brings you, and lets you be born again, amen, what did John 3 say, except you're born of the water, and of the spirit, what's it say, is that what it says, except you're born of the water, and of the spirit, you should have no wise, entered into the kingdom, of heaven, or how are you going to be born, of the water, and of the spirit, except by the Holy Spirit, of God, hey, Jesus Christ, has already known, everything on this earth, that he's going to do, that's why he sent, the Holy Ghost back, anything that we get now, is going to come through, the third person, the triune Godhead, through the Holy Spirit, of God, amen, if we want strength, amen, who's he going to come from, Acts 1 and 8, but you shall receive power, when, when you're going to get the power, after that the Holy Ghost, has come upon you, amen, and then what's that power, going to give us to do, power to become witnesses, martyrs, amen, power to stand on the street corner, like brother Jesse, and say, hey, let me tell you what,

[9:41] I used to be a dopey, and a junkie, and everything else, but now let me tell you what, I found something, that's taken me to a greater height, than I have ever been before, amen, I got hooked up on something, that's got the hallelujah, that's hooked into the throne room, of God, and he's feeding me, that straight adrenaline, and man, I am so wired up on Jesus, that let me tell you what, nothing in this world, can compare with it, amen, Sharky, I don't want to have to set you, by yourself, but you're going to have to, leave them kids alone, those other people by you, you understand, you understand, and I don't want you, to interrupt me anymore, this morning, do you understand, okay, praise the Lord, thank you Jesus, he is not only, the author of regeneration, of being born again, but he is the author, of our conversion, amen, he's the one, that transforms us, transforms our mind, and our souls, and our spirits, and he's the one, that gives us a new heart, where are you going, to get a new heart from, amen, amen,

[10:46] Jesus said, I go away, and I'm going to pray, the father, who's going to send you, another comforter, I'm, Jesus is gone, but the comforter came, in the name of Jesus, amen, and he'll never leave you, and he'll never forsake you, but he'll go with you, all the way, one time David said, Lord, where can I go, to get away, you know, sin will make us, want to run, from the presence of God, and he said, where can I go, to get away, from the presence of God, he said, if I stand up into heaven, Lord, thou art there, and if I make my bed in hell, Lord, thou art there, so the answer is, that once you're a child of God, you're always a child of God, nothing can change that, I've got children, and thank goodness, that my children are saved, but if I had a black sheep, and one of my children, wasn't saved, and he died, and went to hell, he's still my child, nothing's going to change that, because he was born, of me, amen, once you're born of God, you may die, and go to hell, but you'll always remember, that God was your father, amen, I didn't have to be, in this place, but I chose to be here, because of my rebellion, can somebody say amen, you can't be saved, without the Holy Ghost, you can't be healed, without the Holy Ghost, you can't receive, any of the benefits, of being a Christian, without the Holy Spirit of God, because that is the one, that brings everything, that we have, amen,

[11:56] Jesus Christ's righteousness, and his crucifixion, and his death, and his resurrected life, are all imputed unto us, by the power, of the Holy Spirit of God, but now there's many spirits, in the land, some spirit telling you, that the lie, the cheat, the steal, you go into, the mental institutions, and why are they in there, because there are spirits, that they're listening to, the voices are in their head, and they're speaking to them, go down on death row, and you find out, why those people, just murdered, you know, serial killers, and did all this, I heard a voice inside of me, saying kill, kill, you know, kill, murder, rape, and pillage, and all this stuff, where do these voices come from, this is the voice, of these fallen angels of God, that are still in rebellion, against the headship, and the will of God, amen, and they will come, and they'll get on us, and say, why, why did, you know, they're not going to tell us, to go out and murder, rob, and steal, and do things like that, why don't you just quit, going to church, amen, after all, you know, wildcats are playing tonight, by the way, did Kentucky win last night, oh they won, I'm a big wildcat fan, but I've never missed church, to find out, they're going to win or not, amen, hallelujah, oh poor Jeremy, we got, we got wildcat fans, and we got cardinal fans, and we got, who's your fans, amen, amen, all in the same church, it's a wonder we can get along, isn't it, but we all have, the Holy Spirit of God, amen, we all got the Holy Ghost, we all, we all been endowed, and filled, amen, he pleads our calls, for us, by interceding, and travailing, and praying through us, he strengthens us, and he guides us, and he gives, that's his word, and he quickens it, to our hearts, you know the Bible, unless the Spirit of God, unless the Holy Ghost, quickens, and the word quicken, means make alive, the word of God, to your heart, you don't understand it, you cannot understand it, it don't make sense, it just, it just dead letters, on a dead page, you know, and they gave him, a piece of broiled fish, and of, and honeycomb, you know, no spirit, but then when you, when you find out, the Spirit quickens, oh my goodness, what did he get, broiled fish, and a honeycomb, my Lord, now what, you know, what's fish represent, what's the honeycomb, you find out what it's all about, and then you get excited, he strengthens us, he guides us, through his word, and by eliminating our hearts, to understand, and to read, and to receive,

[14:15] God's word, and God's love, amen, he baptizes us, he anoints us, he induces us, with his power, and he fills us, with his Holy Spirit of God, the four things, that the Holy Ghost does for us, first thing, he baptizes us, amen, hallelujah, how many thinks, it's needful to be baptized, in the Holy Spirit, amen, very needful, Romans 8 says, without the Spirit of Christ, you're none of his, amen, without the Spirit, the Spirit of Christ, what Spirit is that, that's the Holy Spirit, without the Holy Spirit, if we, what makes, what makes an old drunk, give up his alcohol, and, and, and, and, you know, and, and turn to serving God, you can't, you can't, he can't quit, he can't quit, he can't quit, if he does, it's temporary, very few people have ever, broken any, anything that you were, bound in sin with, and yoked in sin with, without the Spirit of God, helping you, but not only, not only will he break that bondage, he'll keep you clean, he'll keep you, he don't give you just temporary relief, he gives you permanent relief, if you, well hold on to him, amen, now, you know what I'm talking about, holding on, the Bible said, lay hold on eternal life, lay hold on it,

[15:25] I used to wrestle when I was a kid, and, and, and when I couldn't do anything else, I'd wrap my legs around them, and put them in a scissor lock, and just lay there, and let them beat the fire out of me, but they wasn't going to war, because I was laying hold on eternal life, amen, when I got Jesus Christ, and I got the Holy Spirit of God, hallelujah, I got the Father, the Son, the Holy Ghost, all wrapped up, tied up, and hanged all up in me, I laid hold on them, now the devil is not going to take them away from me, and he's not going to take me away from them, amen, because I am bound, and I am determined, I know in whom I have believed, amen, and I'm persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day, amen, against the day of Jesus Christ, against the day of the rapture is going to come, first thing he's going to do is he's going to baptize us, amen, second thing he's going to do is he's going to anoint us, amen, with power from on high, third thing he's going to do is he's going to endue us with power, and the fourth thing he's going to do is we're going to be filled, now you say, well brother man, these things sound like they all mean the same thing, well, in one essence they do, in another essence we need to understand how that the Holy Spirit of God works, and to bring us to these four different, you know,

[16:31] I know how a car works, I go out there, and I put gas in it, and I got oil in the motor, I put my key in, and I can, you know, I turn on the engine, and I can put it in gear and drive, but you know, if you've never been in a car, you've never seen the car, you wouldn't know how a car operated, now the car breaks down, I don't know how to fix it, so I have to take it to somebody, that has took the trouble, to read the manual, amen, you got to read the manual, to get in there, and to find out, you know, what makes the push rod hooked on to the, whatever it hooks on to, and what the spark does, and you know, how the cam lifts, and all this stuff, I don't know that, of course, they don't know John 3, 16 either, and I do, so, you know, we're all experts in our field, just all depends on whose field we're standing in, amen, a lot of times, you take the doctor, that's down here, at Jewish, and they can take a hand, off a man, or take an arm, and you know, it never been happening before, except for here, till last year, where they're able to take a hand, off one man, put it on another man, you know why, they practice, and they practice, and they practice, amen, I found out, if we practice being a Christian, we can be a pretty good Christian, amen, if we practice it, and the way you practice it, you do it every day, you get in a regimen, of living right, and doing right, amen, so I want to talk about, the first thing that's going to happen to us, amen, what happens, when we were baptized, with the Holy Ghost, he assumes the authority, and the control, over this one unruly member, that you and I, have never been able to control, no, that's not it, go with me to the book of James, second chapter,

[18:01] I want to read to you, about the unruly member here, and I've got an example, to give you this morning, to help you understand, what this is about, in the book of James, the third chapter, and the seventh verse, James 3, seven through ten, now, I said this, let me say it again, the first thing, that the Holy Ghost does, it comes in, and it takes authority, and power, over the unruly members, of our body, that we can't control, can you say amen, has anybody here, ever been out of control, praise God, listen to what it says here, beginning at the seventh verse, it says, for every kind of beast, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed, of mankind, but the tongue, can no man tame, it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poisons, therewith we bless God, even the Father, and therewith we curse, curse we men, which are made, after the similitude of God, out of the same mouth, proceedeth blessings, and cursings, my brethren, these things, ought not to be so, that the fountain, send forth at the same place, sweet water, and bitter, can a fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries, either vine, figs, so, can no fountain, both yield salt water, and fresh, who is a wise man, wait a minute,

[19:30] I want to stop back there, I want to stop at 10, I want to stop at 10, alright, what do we find out, the tongue is an unruly member, and can no man tame, wasn't too long, after I had been, saved, a long time ago, I was out back, behind my house, and I was, with a nail, you know, and hit my thumb, and I know, I know what I used to do, I used to get very upset, and just cussed, like a devil, but that time, I just grabbed my thumb, and I began to say, oh thank you Jesus, thank you Jesus, thank you Jesus, thank you Jesus, thank you Jesus, thank you Jesus, you say, thank you Jesus, because you mashed your thumb, thank you because I didn't mash it off, we were working on the church here, just last week, we had all the carpet pulled back, and we were working down on the floor, and we had the floor jacked up, and we had a two before in between it, and brother Billy was laying down, face down on the floor, with his head in the hole, when this jack slipped, and this two before came up, and hit him right on the nose, can we see that, oh it's feeling real good, amen, man,

[20:43] I mean you can't even hardly tell it now, man, that is a miracle, oh his eyes watered, his nose bled, blood dripping down on the floor, and you know, how long you been saved with Bill, going on two years, you know why, he jumped up there, and he began to curse, and use every account of, oh no he didn't, no he didn't, he sat there, and he said, oh, oh, oh, oh, you'd be surprised, huh, we couldn't laugh, he'd kill us, besides, he was our main carpenter, he was the one that was, but then it was hard not to laugh, so we tried to have empathy with him, we tried to put ourselves in this place, but you know, huh, but you know what happened, let that happen two years ago, you wouldn't want to be, within a country mile, because he'd have been cussing a blue streak, that would turn the air, you know, just,

[21:56] I mean, it would make the flyers wilt, if there'd been any flyers in the place, amen, I mean, oh, the clouds would have clouded up, because he was cussing so bad, because he hit his nose, but now two years later, filled with the Holy Ghost, and the power of God, big old thing, I mean, comes out of there hard, warped him right across the nose, and he don't say a thing, you know, you know what happened, the Holy Ghost had tamed his, we can't tame it, we can't tame our tongue, we, we, we can't stop cursing, and lying, and, and doing all these different things, that we use our tongue to do, but the Holy Spirit inside of us, instead of saying all those things, it just said, oh, oh, thank you Jesus, I don't know if it's broken or not, but I hope it's not, but thank you Jesus, you know, I'm, I'm, I'm, you know, I really believe in Romans 8, 28, you know, for we know that all things work together for good, to them that love God, to them who are called according to his person, I didn't tell him that scripture at that time, but, but, even though it was, and not only, not only, it was a testimony to him, that, that God allowed that to happen, amen, in front of us, so that we could have confidence in him, knowing that now, we know he's got the power, to stand in there, to take the blow, and to still allow the spirit of God to control his tongue, amen, amen, is it, is anyone, you know, whatever got mad at your car, of course, your car wouldn't start or something, and you kick your car, thinking that's going to help it, you kick your car, oh, when you're young, you think you're Superman, so you get mad at your wife, or your girlfriend, and you walk over, and you, and you hit a wall, like, you stupid wall,

[23:47] I think I'm going to hurt you, and you hit the wall, and you, but you macho, you don't want nobody to know how bad it hurt, oh, we've done a lot of silly things, I dare not even try to tell you all of them, amen, but the tame, the tongue can no man tame, it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison, your tongue is, man can't tame it, but thank God, we've got somebody that can tame it, amen, and that is the Holy Spirit of God, that is the very first thing he does, he comes in, and he takes your language, the way you used to, I used to, couldn't say two words, without one of them being a cuss word, and he takes that, and he takes all that old cussing out, and he, and he, and he puts a holy, spiritual, nice, calm language in you, amen, where you can, you know, when you begin to find out who you are, we have been made kings and priests, and what did the priest do, the priest was the one that blessed the people, then, you know, we can use this Holy Spirit that we have inside of us, and use this new tongue that he's gave us to talk with, and we can come out, we say,

[24:53] Billy, I bless you, brother, I bless you, I bless you, amen, and you know, I am pronouncing a blessing on him, amen, we don't bless very many people, oh, for the folks that hadn't heard this before, I'll tell you, they took a survey, how long, if you're sitting in a stoplight, and the light turns green, and there's a car in front of you, that doesn't move, how long before you blow your horn, and the national average, is people have two seconds, to get their foot on that gas, before somebody behind them, hits that horn, and then, what you normally come out of your mouth, is something, well, you stupid idiot, yeah, can't you see the light screen, and, so, now listen to what John said, you know, you might want to ask yourself, exactly what is the baptism of the Holy Ghost, how do I know I got it, or I don't have it, and, the Pentecostal answer, the, the, the standard answer to that is, well, you'll speak with a new tongue,

[26:00] I mashed my finger before, and spoke with a new tongue, it was the wrong one, but it was a new one, I made up words, it wasn't even made yet, speaking with a new tongue, but, and I said that, because there were people, that was filled with the Holy Ghost, before the day of Pentecost, that never spoke with a new tongue, amen, you say, well, who in the world was that, well, one of them was a man named Zacharias, Zacharias was the father of John the Baptist, and the Bible said that Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, another one was, was John's mother, Elizabeth, amen, and, and, and Elizabeth was full of the Holy Ghost, and, and matter of fact, while she was carrying, carrying John, the, the Spirit of God leaped inside of her, uh, uh, and, and then John comes along, and, and he says these words, he says, I baptize you with water unto repentance, but there's one coming after me, whose shoes I'm not worthy to, to undo, he's going to baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with a fire, what did John know about the Holy Ghost and fire, let me tell you what, he knew everything about it, because he was filled with the Holy Ghost from his mother's womb, in Luke 1 15, amen, it's good to know that some, you know,

[27:07] I may try to tell you how to go out there, and now you take that top off of that carburetor, and you get down in there, you know, but I really don't know what I'm talking about, because I'm not a mechanic, amen, but if I've, if I've been doing this thing for 30 years, I've got experience with it, amen, and, and then I, and I, and I can tell you how the Holy Spirit works, amen, then that's who you need to listen to, somebody that's got the experience, John had the experience, he said, I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but there's one coming after me, that is mightier than I, he will baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire, the Holy Ghost, and with fire, can you say amen, hallelujah, now, in, in, in Luke, uh, 24 49, Jesus said, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you, this thing, this thing just didn't happen in the corner, this thing was planned, amen, hallelujah, he said, I'm going to send the promise of my Father,

[28:08] God had promised Jesus something, and Jesus said, I'm going to send it to you, but tarry ye in Jerusalem, until you be endued, with power from on high, amen, we, you know, most of us may never get to go to Jerusalem, but we're going to have to tarry somewhere, until we get endued with this power, that, you know, really, there's not any excuse, to live this life, and just have the blood, first thing the Holy Spirit, God does, no man can come to the Lord, except the Spirit of God, draw him, and then it draws us, and then it causes us, to have a broken and a contrite spirit, and acknowledge our sins, and then when we, when we come to the Lord, with a broken contrite spirit, we acknowledge our sins, and we ask him to forgive us, then he covers us, with his precious blood, he washes our sins away, amen, can somebody say amen, the next thing that we want them to do, we want to take them, and baptize them, amen, baptize them in the water, we want to bury them, like I said in Romans, the sixth chapter, being buried with him, you know, amen, and whereby we're resurrected with him, and walking in the newness of life, hallelujah, and then it leads us, it leads us, to that Holy Ghost baptism, in other words, you can have the Holy Ghost, without speaking in tongues, but you can't have the fire, most people think it's one and the same, you don't even hardly hear anybody, preach about the fire, but so why do you need the fire, of the Holy Ghost brother Van, let me tell you why, because after you have saved, you've been saved, after you've got the blood, you've still got a lot of wood, and hay, and stubble, and chaff, stuff that is no good, that is detrimental to you, that you can't build anything on, but it's all over you, and you remember the picture, you might have seen it, how that they used to take the weed, on the threshing floor, and they'd throw the weed up in the air, and then the winds, that were blowing over there, would blow the chaff away, because the chaff, wasn't good for anything, we have parts of our flesh, that is not good for anything, and it's going to be burned by fire, amen, and if we'll get the spirit, of the Holy Ghost inside of us, it will burn up, that chaff that's in our life, that is hindering us, from going on, and being all that we can be, to be like Jesus Christ, now how many knows, that we're, you got a desire to be like Jesus,

[30:17] I want to walk like Jesus, I want to talk like Jesus, I want to heal like Jesus, amen, I want to know the word, like Jesus knew the word, and he was the word, amen, but, and we can, and what did he say, he said to Mark, he said, the works that I do, shall you do also, and greater works than these, shall you do, because I go to my father, amen, and, and he said in 14, and 16, he said, he that believeth and is baptized, shall be saved, he that believeth not, shall be damned, and these signs, going to follow them, that believe, amen, they're going to speak with you tongues, they're going to cast out devils, they're going to lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover, if they drink, they shall take up serpents, and if they drink any daily thing, it shall not harm them, amen, who is he writing that for, who is he talking to, who is he talking to, there in Luke, and he said, but I, you know, he called his disciples again, and said, I give you power, that any means hurt, that any means hurt, harm you, amen, and this promise, wasn't just to the disciples, but it comes on down to us today, amen, and, and it comes through the power, of the Holy Spirit of God, living in us, walking in us, and crucifying the things of our flesh, that's not like God, and helping us to be an overcomer, amen, he said, behold,

[31:24] I send the promise of my father, upon you, tarry ye in Jerusalem, now let me give you a new out, or insight on, tarry ye in Jerusalem, why did they have to tarry ye in Jerusalem, Jerusalem was a bad place, Jerusalem, they're just, you know, a few days before that, killed John the Baptist, cut his head off, delivered it to Herodias, there on the platter, they had just crucified Jesus Christ, and hung him on the cross, amen, get us out of Jerusalem, let us go to Bethany, let us go down to Capernaum, or, or, you know, let's go over to Lydia, let's go somewhere else beside, but you know what, you know what he's trying to show us, that in the place, of your greatest opposition, is where you're going to receive, the greatest power, to overcome every force, that could possibly come against you, you cannot run from your problem, you might have a problem with me, or somebody in this church, and you think, well I'll go to another church, honey go on, but when you get there, you're going to have the same problem there, because the problem is not with the church, and it's not with the people, the problem is always with us, amen, and when we get our hearts right, and we get our mind right, and we get the spirit of God, letting it have its way in our lives, then we won't have a problem with anybody, how many, how many times have I heard, you know, this, this thing said that, that a person came to the Lord, and when they got up, they loved everybody, they got down there hating everybody, and, and something's wrong with you, and something's wrong with you, and something's wrong with you, and you can just go and name everything off, when you got up, after the blood of Jesus Christ, had been applied to you, and you were led, they're drawn there by the spirit of God, everything is beautiful, amen, everybody's beautiful, anything that I may have said or done, you know,

[33:00] I'm sorry, and anything you've done against me, it's forgotten, forgiven forever, amen, that's what the Holy Spirit of God can do for you, amen, do you know that holding grudges, can cause you to have cancer, it can cause you to, cause you to be sick, cause you, cause you not to be able to, to, to, you know, amount to anything in life, because you're mad at somebody, and you won't let it go, and you can't let it go, unless the spirit of God delivers you, thank God, you may have ever seen the movie, Pigram's Progress, all, all through Pigram's Progress, he, he had a big old sack on his back, a weight on his back, and everywhere he went, and he fell in, he fell in all kind of problems, and there was always, grace to help, and different things, but, but, you know, nobody ever asked him what's in his bag, and he carried that thing, all the way through the whole show, until he got to the last thing, and then there was a great big hill, in front of him, and on top of that great big hill, there was a cross, and he climbed that hill, and when he touched the foot of the cross, all that, that, he lost that bag, came off his back, and began to roll back down the hill, amen, because what was in his baggage, he was carrying that sin around, amen, that weight of sin, but when we touch the foot of the cross, amen, that weight of sin is rolled away, oh my Lord, let me tell you what, you can get up from that cross, from that, from that foot of that old altar, amen, from the foot of that cross, and you don't have to carry your burden anymore, we got a burden bearer, like little sister was saying a while ago, you don't have to bear your burden anymore, amen, casting all your cares upon me, for I care for you, take my yoke upon you, and learn of me, for my yoke is easy, my burden is light, amen, let me hurry up,

[34:32] I've got just a few minutes here, to finish this up, in, the baptized, the word, the word, baptized, the Greek word, means to overwhelm, to overwhelm, wow, you know, if you just get the spirit of God, you say, oh yeah, I got it, you're not very overwhelmed, you say, wow, once like a bird in prison, I dwelt, no freedom from my sorrow, I felt, how's the rest of that go, he set me free, amen, he set me free, he broke the bonds of prison for me, I'm glory bound, my Jesus is equal, glory to God, he set me free, amen, amen, the Holy Spirit comes into your heart, it overwhelms you, it covers you wholly, with the fluid of the spirit, amen, the word, baptized, means to stain with dye, it means to dip, it means to immerse, it means to bury, the Holy Spirit comes, and it convicts your heart, leads you to the blood, washes all your sins away, you will begin to repent, and when you repent, then your heart begins to merge with his heart, what's he do,

[35:51] David said, Lord, create in me a new heart, man, the heart I got today, isn't the heart I had, well not before I got saved, he gave me a new heart, and Lord renew a right spirit, you know, you know, if you got a bad spirit, you got a wrong spirit, people don't want to be around you, amen, like Joe Bliffitt's, you just walk around with an old dark cloud over your head, you know, it's gonna, you know, Murphy's law was written for you, everything that can, bad can happen, is gonna happen to you, but you can get rid of that thing, amen, lay hold on eternal life, Joel 2, 28 and 29, let me read this to you, this happened to, I mean 900 years before Jesus Christ, ever came, 900 years before Pentecost, let me read it to you, hear what it says, and it shall come to pass, that afterwards, I will pour out my spirit, upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions, and I also upon the servants, and upon the handmaids, in those days I will pour out my spirit,

[36:59] I'll show wonders in the heavens above, and the earth below, blood and fire, and vapor of smoke, what was he prophesying about, going on over to Acts the second chapter, amen, Acts the second chapter, what's he say over there, let me find it over here, Peter standing up, with the 11, Acts 2 and 14, said you men of Judea, and all you that dwell in Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken you to my words, for these are not drunken as you suppose, seeing as but the third hour of the day, but this is that, which was spoken by the prophet Joel, amen, when he said, and it shall come to pass in the last day, said God, I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh, amen, he just, he just repeating what he read over here, in the book of Joel, can you say amen, hallelujah, Luke told them there in Acts 1 and 80, he said, well let's just read Acts 1 and 6, 1 and 5, they're starting verse 5, oh let's just start in verse 4, it's too good to skip in this, it said, and being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, do not depart from Jerusalem, do not depart from the place of persecution, and opposition, because there's where you're going to get your power, when I am weak, then I'm made strong, amen, for my strength is perfected in my weakness, that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which saith he, ye have heard of me, for John truly baptized you with water, but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost, not many days hence, when they therefore were come together, they asked of him saying,

[38:42] Lord with that this time, restore the kingdom, and he said unto them, it is not for you to know the times, or the seasons, which the Father has put in his own power, but ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost has come upon you, amen, and you're going to be witnesses unto me, in Jerusalem, and Judea, and Samaria, and in Louisville, and on Riverside, amen, when the Holy Spirit comes in, he gives you power to be a witness, he'll take an old draft, an old dope head, and put a Bible in his hand, and put him up around the street corner, preaching to everybody that'll stop, coming up and down the street, you know what people do, they'll go along, they'll point fingers at him, they'll laugh at him, make fun, you know what, but they're not making fun of Jesse, they're making fun of Jesus, amen, because that's not Jesse up there on the street corner, preaching, because Jesse is a dope head, and a drunk, and alcoholic, and all those things, that's Jesse, amen, but Jesse's dead, and Jesus Christ is now living in Jesse, amen, that wasn't Billy that got his nose mashed the other night, and didn't say anything, that was Jesus, amen, Billy would have cursed a blue streak, and the house would have burnt down, he'd have made it so hot, but Jesus, amen, bridled his tongue, and healed his peace, amen, we need the Holy Spirit of God, to lead us, and to guide us, amen, hallelujah, let me get on down,

[39:56] I'm just about through, I'm just about out of time, go back with me, to the book of James again, the third chapter, starting the eighth verse, one more time, James three and eight, this is what he says, I want to read all the way down, through the rest of this, chapter here, in closing today, it says, but the tongue can no man tame, it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison, therewith with the tongue we bless God, even the Father, and therewith we curse men, which are made after the similitude of God, out of the same mouth, proceedeth blessings and cursings, my brethren, these things ought not so to be, that the fountain send forth, at the same place, sweet water and bitter, can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries, neither a vine, figs, no, so can no fountain, both yield salt, and fresh water, who is a wise man, and do with knowledge, among you, let him show, out of a good conversation, out of a good clean lived life, his works with meekness, and of wisdom, but if you have bitter envying, bitter envying, and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth, the wisdom, the wisdom descendeth, not from above, but is earthly, sensual, and devilish, for where envying, and strife is, there is confusion, and every evil work, but the wisdom that is from above, is first pure, then peaceable, and gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy, and good fruits, without partiality, without hypocrisy, and the fruit of righteousness, is sown in peace, of them that make peace, so what is, there was a scripture,

[41:55] Ephesians 4, 25, let me go there real quick, Ephesians 4, 25, what is the evidence, that we got the Holy Spirit of God, that we got the Holy Ghost, that we've been endued, with power from on high, it's not necessarily, part of it is speaking in tongues, but in Ephesians, here in the fourth chapter, and beginning of the 25th verse, let me read this real quick, it says, we're for putting away lying, Christians lie, he said, let every man speak, truth with his neighbor, for we are members, one of another, he said, be angry, do Christians get angry, and sin not, let not the sun go down on your wrath, man that's a powerful thing right there, let not the sun go down on your wrath, neither give place to the devil, let him that stole, still no more, but rather let him labor, working with his hands, the things which is good, that he may be, may have to give to them, that needeth, let no corrupt communication, proceedeth out of your mouth, but that which is good, to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace, unto the hearers, and grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby you are sealed, unto the day of redemption, let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice, and be ye kind, one to another, tender hearted, forgiving one another, even as God, for Christ's sake, hath forgiven you, one of the, signs, that you have the Holy Spirit of God, is, is speaking in tongues, speaking in another tongue, like they did there in Acts, the fourth chapter, one through, ten, but the greater sign, the greater sign, that you have the Holy Ghost, is that you have love, by this mention, though, that you're my disciples, that you have love, one for another, see I have,

[44:06] I hate to admit this, but I have seen people, come to our service, they get up here, and they shout, and they may speak in tongues, but then they go outside the church, and you never know, they came to church, you would never know, they've been, because they're outside, and they're cursing, and doing every ungodly thing, that you could possibly think of, and you say, well they was just in a while ago, speaking in tongues, and that's why I said, speaking in tongues, is not necessarily the evidence, that you've got the Holy Ghost, but if you're tender hearted, and you've got mercy, and you've got love, and you've got long suffering, and you've got compassion, for others, honey that is a powerful thing, then you couple that, with the spirit of, intercessory prayer, and travailing prayer, and speaking in tongues, then you know, that you've got a hold of something, amen, so we just talked on baptism, this morning, with the Lord willing, later I'll talk on the rest of them, but if it's not, whatever he wants, not my will but thine be done, everybody bow your head, nobody looking around, the spirit of God, is just in this place today, and in such a precious, precious way, hallelujah, hallelujah, book of Hebrews, said his opponent, of the man wants to die, and after that the judgment, revelation 20, and 12 talks about, and he said,

[45:27] I saw a great white throne, and one sitting upon the throne, and he had books in his hand, every good thing you did, and every bad thing you did, the Muslim religion, believes that if you're just 51% good, then you'll make it to heaven, 51%, I'd rather not take a chance, I don't know if I'm 51%, so I just want to try to go all the way, try to go all the way, Paul said, what is, what is life, your life is but a fleeting vapor, that appears for a little season, and then vanisheth away,

[46:28] I don't know how I got as old as I am, because it seemed like I was just, a child yesterday, sitting in my mother's lap, and somewhere the last 50 years, it's just, gone, I can't get them back, God's recorded every time I said, everything that I did, every bad attitude that I copped, but if you're a Christian, you got an advocate with the father of the man, Christ Jesus, the devil is the accuser of the brethren, and he goes and says, did you see that, pit that Billy threw the other day, did you hear what he said, did you see the way he acted, did you, you see that, murder in his voice, the devil accusing Billy, to God,

[47:37] Jesus Christ, our advocate, our counselor, stands up and says, your honor, and I say a word, God the father says, speak on, he says, yes, Billy did that, but five minutes after he did that, fell down on his knees, tears running down his face, he said, Jesus, I'm sorry, I'm sorry I said that, acted that, had that attitude, did that thing, would you please forgive me, and judge, I wiped his slate clean with my blood, see the difference between a sinner, and a Christian, is that a sinner has somebody, Christian has somebody, to atone for his sins, and a sinner doesn't, say, well brother man, what would I have to do, to be a Christian, call on the name of Jesus, publicly, publicly, publicly, say,

[48:54] Jesus, save me, would you save me, the words of Jesus himself, if you'd be ashamed of me, before this evil, and perverse generation, I'll be ashamed of you, before my father, so God, I'm not ashamed, to call on you, to say, I need your help, save me Jesus, cleanse me Lord, take all the evil, and the sin, and the wickedness, out of my life, because Lord, I don't want to, die, and go to hell, the apostle Paul, after he had written, several books, of the new testament, he said, I keep my body under, bring it into subjection, lest at any time, after I have preached to others, that I myself, should be a cast away, therefore, forgetting those things, which are behind, how would you like to forget, all the wrongs, that you've ever done, amen,

[50:11] Paul had, conspired, to kill Christians, and he was there, consenting to the death, of God's martyr, Stephen, he held the cloaks, for the men, that went down there, and stoned him to death, and I can see Paul now, God forgive me, I'm so sorry, that's why he said, I'm the chief of sinners, I'm the chief, I kill God's saints, I went into the homes, to the synagogues, and brought out everybody, that believed in that name, of Jesus, cast them into prison, some even killing, but he said, I've got to forget it, because I am saved now, I accept the blood, of Jesus Christ, to wash my sins away, forgetting those things, which are past, and looking to those things, which are before,

[51:16] I press, toward the mark, of the prize, I'm pressing, toward the mark, of the prize, of the high calling, of God, which is in Christ Jesus, every head bowed, every eye closed, and no one looking around, if you're not here today, and you want Jesus, to save you, you're not saved, you can hear my voice, don't be ashamed, you don't have to be, a member of this church, to be saved, you don't have to come, to this church, to be saved, God's got children, churches all across the land, but you do have to come, to Jesus, come to Jesus, come to Jesus, would you just raise, up your hand, say brother Van, I'm not saved, I need to be saved today, I need to be saved today,

[52:18] I don't want to have to face, the judgment seat of Christ, carrying all my sins, when Jesus Christ, would have born for me, he bore our sin, on Calvary's cross, he who knew no sin, became sin, that we who knew no, righteousness, no goodness, might be made, the righteousness of God, in him, the offer still stands, come unto me, all you that labor, and heavy laden, and I'll give you rest, Lord would you take me, just as I am, some folks think, when I get good enough, when I quit this, and quit that, honey that ain't the way, it works, come to me, just as you are, is what Jesus said, come to me, casting all your cares, casting all your sins, upon me,

[53:46] I care for you, and I'm your sin bearer, I'm your burden bearer, would you take me, just as I am, wounded, and torn, by my family, and friends, no words, could ever mend, take all the broken pieces, Lord, and you, can start to mend, by putting, this old broken heart, back, together, again, oh hallelujah, just as I am, oh God,

[54:52] I can be thee, just as I am, oh Lord, here am I, take me, break me, make me, like you, cause all that I am, all that I ever, hope to be, I give it all, oh hallelujah, here, take you, just as you are,

[55:53] Oh, Would somebody go to the back and to the children?

[56:26] Would you take me just as I am? Wounded and torn by my family and friends.

[56:43] No worse can ever mend. Take all broken pieces and you can start to me.

[57:50] David said, I was glad when they said unto me, let us go into the house of the Lord. Wonder what he thought he was going to find there. Hallelujah. What do you think he's going to find there when he got to the house of the Lord?

[58:11] Amen. Salvation. Healing. Peace of mind. How many people have I talked to over the years and they said, man, if I just had peace of mind.

[58:24] Peace over this situation that I'm going through. Peace over these troubles and trials. Amen. You know, it's easy for someone not going through it to say, well, all things work together for good.

[58:36] But you're the one that's hurting. You're the one that's sick. Amen. Amen. It takes on a whole new meaning then. Amen.
