[0:00] We ought to preach and study Job All the time You think about it, God had this whole Bible in heaven written And he had to send it down to earth One at a time And this is the first one he sent down Here Look, Job is the first Bible book written on earth So let's be more And it is So We'll read the end of the story Mostly in Job 42, 7 It was so that after the Lord had spoken These words unto Job The Lord said to Eliphaz the Temanite My wrath is kindled against thee And against thy two Friends, for ye have not Spoken of me the thing that is right As my servant Job Now then you saw a different moment When you read And said to Job Be sure you know who's talking If God or Job
[1:02] Are talking Everybody that is right But if it's one of these Three friends that's talking You've got to check And grasp the Bible Right there Because they may not be right Now sometimes they are Sometimes they get some right Accent But when God said that My ears came to the point I thought I've got to be careful About holding out of Job If it's one of these friends That's what they're talking Alright Therefore say Take unto you now Seven books And seven rams And go to my servant Job And offer up for yourselves A burnt offering And my servant Job Shall pray for you For him will I accept For that support Lest I deal with you After your folly I hope he doesn't deal with me After my folly In that he have not spoken of me The thing which is right And like my servant Job So Eliphaz the Temanite
[2:03] Bildad the Shubite Zophar the Nehemiah Went and according As the Lord commanded them The Lord also accepted Job The Lord turned the captivity of Job When he prayed for his friends Also the Lord gave Job Twice as much as he had before Then came there unto him All his brethren His brothers And all his sisters And all they that had been Disacquainted before Now these all scattered They all forsook him He was alone They did eat bread with him In his house They bemoaned him And comforted him Over all the evil That the Lord had brought upon him Every man also gave him A piece of money And that's kind of rubbish That I like Every morning Here you go You know I gotta think about this When you kick the devil Out of a situation He sort of turned around All these people
[3:04] Since they don't have The devil bothering them They come back And everybody In the fellowship Again You know all God's people Will be in fellowship All the time In the work of the devil So the Lord blessed the latter And the end of Job More than his beginning For he had 14,000 sheep Now Where he had seven before And 6,000 camels Where he had three before And 1,000 yoke boxes Where he had five hundred before And 1,000 she-asses Where he had five hundred before He had He had also Seven sons and three daughters What's wrong there?
[3:37] That's what he had before I thought you were going to have Twice as much of everything Huh? Oh They're not dead They're in heaven So he does have Twice as many kids He's probably going to have Some of them in heaven Get those little mouths in there Woo Alright That's right That's right He still has Twice as many kids And he called the name Of the first Do you mind how she's a She makes me Tremendous But I'm not kidding It's just Anyway And the name of the seventh Kizah And the name of the third Karen They call her Karen Short And all the land Were no women found So far as the daughters Of Job And their father gave them Inheritance among their brethren After this Job lived 140 more years Wow
[4:37] Not only was there That's a lot A lot of more time Saw his sons And his son's sons Even four generations So Job finally died Be old and full of days I love a story That ends well Yeah I probably ought to Set the Foundation For the story I Sometimes I assume Everybody knows All the story And it's not There's somebody here That's not too committed With So we'll read a little bit The first part And then I'll give you My lesson Job 1-1 There was a man In the land of us Whose name was Job And that man was perfect And upright And one that feared God And eschewed evil Two words in that description Perfect means mature Not sinless And eschewed means avoided He ran from evil And there were born unto him
[5:38] Seven sons and three daughters His sons also Seven thousand sheep Three thousand camels And so on So this man was the greatest Of all the men Of the east And his sons went And feasted in their houses Every one of his days And sent a call For their three sisters To eat and drink with them And it was so When the days Of their feasting Were gone about That Job sent The saints To hide them And rose up early In the morning Off a burnt offering And was according To the number of all For Job said Maybe these My sons have sinned Maybe curse God In their hearts So this Job But did Job Continue There was a day When the sons of God Came to present themselves For the Lord Satan came among them This is one of the very few Appearances of Satan In the Bible No more than half a dozen times He showed himself The Lord said to Satan Whence come his vow Satan answered The Lord Watch this now Satan answered The Lord From going to
[6:38] And fro In the earth And from walking Up and down In it Crisscrossing Why would he do that He's looking for you He's watching See somebody That's weak That he can Take out I suppose That's In this book In the first chapter Of this book To warn us That the devil Is powerless And seeking To hurt us The Lord Said to Satan Hasn't I considered My servant Job There's none Like him In the earth Perfectly upright Man One that fears God That's evil Satan answered The Lord Said Does Job The fear God For naught You think He's doing This for nothing Have you made A hedge Of out And by his house And all The half On every side You blessed The work Of his hands His substance Is increasing The land But put forth Thine hand Now Untouch all The half He'll curse To your face The Lord Said to Satan Go
[7:39] Lord He asked Them Thine Now Only upon Himself Put not Thine Hand Satan Went forth In the presence Of the Lord And began To afflict Job Read all That You know It Or you can Read it He lost All of His Lifestyle He lost All of His children One Another Came And blew Down The house That's right His wife Turned on And said Why don't You curse God And die He was In a Very Bad Street Was he Not What did He say Look at Verse 20 Then Job arose And then His mantle Shaved His head Well There was One Ground In Worship That's A strange Time To Worship Isn't It And
[8:39] Soon Naked Came Out Of My Mother's Wound Naked Shall I Turn Thither The Lord Gave And The Lord Has Taken Away Bless Be The Name Of The Lord All This Job Sin Not No Charge God Foolish The Greatest Scripture In the Bible He's a Real Man Like you Me That Feetings Lost Everything In One Day That Was His Reaction Well Go On And See The Rest Of That Kind Of Opening To This Book And Then Things Really Picked Up After Joel Was Stripping With Sores From Head To Foot Sat Out On The Trash Heap Was Itching And Burning And Hurting All Those Boils Everywhere Took A piece Of Pottery And Scraping Himself Trying To Scratch The Itching Healthy Pain And His Three
[9:39] Friends Show Yeah And You Haven't Read The Story Read It And If You're That Kind Of Friends Nobody Needs That Kind Of Friend All They Did Was Tell You Sin And That Why You're The Best Green They Were There By God's Decree And We Didn't Know It We Aren't Told That Yet But Job Had Some Problems He Was Not Without A Fall And These Men Brought It Out And That Is Going To Be The Subject That We Get To This Message Eventually The Greatest Lesson We Learn From The Book Of Job Greatest Lesson Now
[10:40] There Are Many Great Lessons Of Job For Instance The Lesson In The Christian Family Before I Did The Father He Was Prayed For His Kids Took Care Of Them Had Them All Loving Each Other That Is The Compromise Right There You Got Ten Kids And They All Eat Together Once A Month Without Killing Each Other That's An Unusual Family Sad As They Now You Think About It Don't You Raise Your Hand You Probably Couldn't Get Together With All Of Your Siblings Without Somebody Not Liking Somebody Don't Say It Was A Great Dad Had A Good Family It Teaches You About Family Life All Ten Children Were God Did To Work Training Great Parental Example You Don't Do That Without Acting In Front Of Them Like You Want Them To Act A Lot Of People Try
[11:40] To Do Things And Don't Pay Much attention Tó „!
[12:19] act of trouble.
[12:32] Some people say that's the greatest lesson in Job is to read those verses that say he didn't charge God foolishly. Blessed be the Lord. He's given me Satan away and so on. That's not the greatest lesson.
[12:45] That's a great testament to a great man. But not everybody do that. That's not the greatest lesson. I didn't read it as Satan attacked Job's body.
[12:59] He handled that too without complaining. It's one thing to lose your wealth. Another thing to lose your health.
[13:13] He lost all of it and stated truth. As it says in the book, he held fast his integrity. Now there are many other great lessons.
[13:23] That's not my sermon tonight. For instance how to really be a friend. You get that lesson. You're by osmosis. You say how not to be a friend. You know not to bless my dad.
[13:36] He's already came home to service. And he's trying to drown his PTSD in liquor. and it did the exact opposite to me.
[13:46] Instead of not wanting to follow him in that it turned me off. And I never wanted to drink. And he didn't know it but he was a great blessing. It cost him a lot pain to be that blessing for me.
[13:59] But it did the exact opposite to me. I never wanted to to be like he was when he was drunk. And I never did drink. So how to be a great friend.
[14:13] You need to be a good friend. Or what if I had a friend. Just be one. I don't have all of you. You can shake a stick at. Those men were not very good friends. Even Mrs. Joe turned on her husband.
[14:27] Somebody said she got her cup come up and so at the end she had to stay pregnant again. So she knew here. Woo!
[14:41] That's right. Alright. Let's get back to 42 because I think that's enough introduction.
[14:56] The key now to the greatest lesson in the book of Job is in 4 and 5 and 10 chapter 42. Chapter 4, 5 and 6.
[15:11] Look at look at 42 and 4. Here I beseech thee and I will speak. Job talking. I'll demand that thee declare thou from me.
[15:23] I said that foolishly. Alright. I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ears but now mine eye seeth thee I wish I could see him too.
[15:37] Don't you? We've heard of God and heard of Jesus I'd like to see them. I've met a few people that have seen one of them. They convinced me they've seen them.
[15:49] The Lord's never given me that blessing. But Job said I've heard about you in the ear but now I'll see you. Watch what he says. Wherefore I have poured myself and repent in dust and ashes.
[16:04] He has some things to repent. And I imagine we did for dust too when we saw Jesus. Then verse 10 the Lord turned the captivity to Job when he prayed for his friends also the Lord gave Joseph twice as much as he had before.
[16:27] Job had actually been a little proud. He had proud. God allowed such a good man to be so followed by the devil.
[16:49] Pride. Pride goes before destruction. You don't see destroy any. All his spirit before fall. God gives grace to the Lord but resist the proud.
[17:07] Ladies gentlemen, there's not much you can do worse than be proud. It will get you in trouble every time. Not anybody in this room, including me and brothers God, can stand up to Joe.
[17:24] Nobody came down hard. Now watch that. Learn the lesson. Don't turn me off.
[17:38] I'll show you how you can recognize your pride as we go along. Job had shown his pride in his interaction with his three so called friends.
[17:51] That's why they were there. God used them to show Job what he had in his heart that he didn't even know he had. Elphaz said something like this, paraphrasing, you're in trouble because you've never experienced God like I have.
[18:06] My hair stood on him when I was off, period. He had pride too, didn't he? And Job witnessed that pride in his friend. What did Job say?
[18:20] Leave me alone, you have the right to judge me, not sympathetic to me, you can go. Wrong reaction. He saw the pride in his friend, but he had to go proud himself.
[18:35] Then the other freedom comes along, paraphrasing and condensing. Little dance, Job, you're suffering because you're a different group. It's exactly what's wrong with you. I wouldn't like me call hypocrite with you.
[18:51] Job said, all you're doing is making me bitter and depressed. Get away from me. I'm better than you are. And then so far they heard paraphrase, he said, I wish you God like I do.
[19:08] He's punishing you because you don't know him as well as I do. That's pride again. Job witnessed it in his friend. He didn't catch it.
[19:20] But he retaliated and kind. He said, yeah, well, I've never been as good as you are. You are miserable comforters. I could tell you your faults if I wanted to.
[19:32] I'm weary of listening to you. Wrong reaction. What would you do if somebody came and told you to agree? you walk out.
[19:43] Let come to a great church house. That's where most of us would react. That's the way he did. Sure. Wrong reaction. We're supposed to do it.
[19:54] sir, I'm sorry I disappointed you. I don't need to be good. I try to be sincere. Would you let forgive me and pray for me? That's good.
[20:05] How do you argue with that? You can't argue with it. Take it on the hand. Just being what is wrong. They didn't do that of course.
[20:18] We're close to the greatest lesson you can learn from Job. In every case now Job returned evil for evil. What does God say to overcome evil with good goods?
[20:32] He didn't do that because of pride. The Bible says that each is better than themselves. Which other? All other.
[20:45] That means whether you believe or not that Chris is better than you are. we're all worse than each other.
[21:14] When we start thinking we're better we're in trouble. let each esteem others better than themselves. How did Jesus react to his persecutors?
[21:26] Come on. Judas was going to plant the kids on his ground and he said how can I help you?
[21:40] Knowing what are we doing? What have we learned from this great Bible here? And all the great examples that we have in both bad and good.
[21:51] Why don't we learn something and go home and just beat ourselves up and say why don't you act like! We're so hard headed on and if you were a preacher I wish you were a preacher for six months I get over some of these sermons God gives me and I'm looking out there and I'm thinking boy that person really need this then I know what's wrong the one that tells me that they didn't get somebody I didn't think!
[22:27] who God is speaking to I don't know that I never know that but I wish you had to do it sometimes it's really discouraging to print your heart out to see somebody that needed to change not change and somebody that needed to appropriate the truth you gave so you just say well maybe the next time but here's the problem it's not because you're dishonoring me if you don't catch discern that's not it at all I know what's I know what you're losing I know what you're going to do I know what it's going to cost you God wouldn't have me preach something brother Scott preach something or brother see anybody else look at us preach something for you and you ignore it without it costing you nothing that's what problem is I change many it now.
[24:05] Get this Bible in your heart and let it change you. I've said many, many, many times, you can get saved and in one year's time you can be a wrong Christian if you'll do everything you're told in every sermon and read that Bible every day. You grew up in a year most of us have been here 10, 15 years and we still aren't growing up.
[24:29] That's the reason because we're not taking advantage. Alright, listen to this now. No critical, retaliatory, grudge-holding person will ever walk with God.
[24:48] He said now, Joel, I accept him. Let him pray for you. He said, I'm going to pray for you. I'm going to pray for you. Now, you get Joel to pray for you. I will accept him.
[25:02] I want to have you. Let's pray for you. For the Lord's sake. I'm going to listen to you. We don't. We don't think of that. Let me tell you something.
[25:15] If you have anything against anybody on this earth, God's not walking with you, He won't hang around people like you.
[25:29] He won't let you go to hell. That's about all you got. You're going to come up against a big wall down the road. It's only adversity that you had already. He's going to back off and let you smack your face right against that wall.
[25:43] I think I would be that wall. That's good. If you have anything against anybody on this earth, God is not walking with you.
[25:59] And does not accept you. Because when you have, let's say, all these kids on the front, let's say that I want to criticize one of them.
[26:17] Do you know about this? Let me tell you what I know about her. She is a rat. Now what?
[26:30] I'm putting myself above the right. Yeah. That's right. You don't criticize anybody you don't have pride. Amen. That's right. That's right. That's right. And you have a reason to me.
[26:46] He said, okay. When you have something and somebody, you put yourself above it. That's right. We're supposed to let, we're supposed to, all of us are supposed to esteem everybody else better than we are.
[27:03] Amen. That's right. I didn't say that. God said that. What will, man? Go to bed at night and sleep. No, no conscience bothering you.
[27:13] No time to figure out how you can get back to that person that hurt you. Amen. What will, man? If you have your savings, bird, and you're holding something against the person that really did you wrong, you're not walking with God.
[27:31] He left you a long time ago. Yeah. Anybody do anything wrong to him? No, I have a problem. You know why did you do that? Because of pride.
[27:42] Wow. That's right. You think you're better than that person. That's right. Yeah. That's what God wanted me to tell you. I don't know who I'm telling you. That's good. Yeah. But pride is your problem.
[27:54] Pride is your problem. If you retaliate, if you overgrudge, if you're critical, you have pride. You have pride problem. That's right. If somebody told you you didn't get it, you said, well, I'll tell you what, I don't want to do that to your own reform, but you have pride.
[28:09] Yeah. Joe had pride. That was his problem. Man's killing sin is pride. Yeah. Why do you make me even want to buy that apple?
[28:22] Yeah. Yeah. He's holding something back on me. Oh. That's right. You know, that thing looks beautiful. My world can't we eat that? I'm going to get somebody.
[28:36] I'm going to lift myself up to God's station and I'm going to go into it and rejoice what he says. Pride. Pride behind everything. Over.
[28:49] It's killing him. Killing him. When you fight back, God leaves the fight. When you take it, God takes up the fight.
[29:04] Keep going to fire and fear. No, you got to fight back, don't you? I know. I do too. I like to fight back.
[29:15] We're just human. It's killing us. Jesus said, Lord, bless those that, that, that, treat you bad. Do good to them that, that person treat you.
[29:26] Pray for them. You ever tried that? That's one of the greatest keys to fellowship with God is simply do not get it odd with anybody.
[29:42] Just pray for them. don't let them stir you up. Don't let them get under your skin and pull the flesh to the surface. Because you're going to get in trouble what you do.
[29:57] I'll tell you what. They put you something, man. It's almost one thing. It's just a record. God resisted the proud and gave grace to the humble.
[30:11] We've read that a thousand times and we've been in the world and we've been proud. It says God resists the proud. It didn't say God just, you know, he doesn't like that.
[30:21] No, no, no. He pushes you away. I do know what would shock us if we knew how many of God's kids are walking through this or buying himself.
[30:33] with all the dangers around them. And there it is in God's taking care that he left them all down. They don't know. That's why you hear about so many Christians and all these terrible things.
[30:47] Don't you think God can keep that happening? Pride is a killer. Pride will before the fall and it always does.
[31:00] Somebody sitting out there is thinking I've been ready. Yes, I get my feet in the curb. I hope you're thinking the second thought right after that.
[31:13] I must be proud. I must have pride. Remember all I told you that Job said back to those people and I just gave you a summary of it.
[31:28] He was proud. look back up now. Again, at verse 5 and 6. I've heard the evil here you hear.
[31:39] Now I see the truth. He can say now I see the truth. Wherefore, I have oiled myself and reprehensible in dust and ash you.
[31:50] right there all his pride went out the door. Inevitable. He's down wallowing in the dust and saying dear God I'm so sorry, forgive me.
[32:02] I was proud. He's not thinking about those three friends that weren't friends. He's not trying to find somebody to blame for his trouble. He's saying I'm the bird that's got the problem.
[32:14] And until you say number one it's your problem. Oh, you think it's your husband, don't you? Well, you're probably right.
[32:25] He is your brother. He's not your biggest brother. You married to a blessed your heart.
[32:37] He's trying to get back to each other. Well, he hurt me. I don't hurt him back. Pride. Yeah. Pride. And what won't happen if he comes in out of sports one day, he don't even match his thumb at the work.
[32:54] He's just bad shit. Bad dude. Can you say something sweet to him and he barks at you? Now, here's what you do.
[33:05] You go ahead and fix your arms up with that book. Pride. That's Pride. It'll work.
[33:19] Oh, sweetheart, I'm so sorry you had a bad day. Come on in here. Let me draw your bath. I'm going to fix you a heart circle. He wasn't going to do better.
[33:33] He's ready for a fight. Then there's nobody in fight. That's good. I'm not. Try it. Try it'll work.
[33:46] You can't talk about my life. And what do you do like a dirty dog? Would you go to? Pride, man.
[33:58] Pride. Pride is man's killer. It's behind all criticism, retaliation, dislike, enmity, gossip. You name it.
[34:08] All of that stuff. Pride. All it is. if you have ever lived what she said and what he did to you did pride. Everybody have pride.
[34:21] It don't matter what she did or what he did. God has looked at your heart when you're headed. He probably had him in your life to fix your pride.
[34:34] To your favor to say it's bad. I tell you some of this stuff I fear you can call the Bible said some of it I can live but I have people come up and get in my face and I don't want this to knock it's not that done just like him and they deserve it.
[35:03] By the way sometimes they deserve it. They really are wrong. Yeah. They really are wrong. You're just not allowed to think you're better than they are because you're just as wrong as they are in some way.
[35:21] And I've had it back all many times and said sir I'm so sorry I disappointed you. If you'll tell me how I hurt you I won't make it right. That's hard to do when you got your fist you know and you just boil because you don't deserve that.
[35:42] And this guy wasn't a lie he represented you wrong and he didn't have a business saying that and he said that that's what you think. It don't matter where the right God is trying to fix the heart of you.
[35:57] He trying to fix the reaction. That's good. Pride. Job said I am in dust and ashes.
[36:07] That doesn't sound like Job said well I tell you you're looking to change him. And then God said I will accept Job let him pray for you.
[36:23] He didn't accept him before. I noticed this one time. Starting in chapter 38 39 40 and 41 four chapters and that miserable creature called Job sitting out there with those and those three friends have just made him more miserable and God jumps in the middle of him for four chapters he calls him everything but a good man that's all at 38 39 40 and 41 God is talking to Job personally and telling him he's the sorriest creature that ever walked I mean he's all I can you can tell you Job tried to say something one time or you said but I mean and he's kept on talking I'm not with you he got it you got it go now you and I thought Job is the best man on earth the best
[37:27] Christian and good night he didn't break and look at all he's lost give the man a break he is human God didn't give him bread he said no worry I'm going to give you ten more kids and all these cows and all this gold and friends that you have 140 more years the best life you I can't do it if you get on your knees and tell me you're wrong and slaughter your bread God sees the big picture he sees what he wants to do for you what is Abraham when did God call Abraham his friend after he gave in to selfish lot when Abraham had the right to choose the land but he said we're too big our our our our our fighting we have too many sheep to live together you take what you want
[38:33] I'll take the rest and God cast his eyes on the most beautiful fertile area that he could find selfish and Abraham said that's funny I'll take the rocky hillside after that he was the friend!
[38:52] God David what do you think David called him after his own heart oh I know that he killed a liar no no no it was after he refused to retaliate against King Saul who was trying to kill him remember all those times that David could have killed him he said I would not put my hand on the Lord and God said I wouldn't either he's a man after my own so I had pride after all I been anointed to God I am the next king for all you messed up I took the king away for you get out of my way that's right is what that is but when you say I'm just a servant and he's!
[39:45] the Lord and God I'm not going to touch him that's humility that's when he got his child Jacob Jacob was one of the big girl survive he's a pick pocket you know he took away from you Jacob was a rat a rat but one day God changed his name to Israel which means Prince of God and gave him the headship of the whole nation of Israel you know what it was after that night when he wrestled with that angel and he said I'm going to have to meet my brother tomorrow and my brother takes me for a good call but I don't want to I want this fight to end and I want to love my brother and I want him to love me I got!
[40:36] a blessing I got a that's humility and the next day a humble Jacob made his way to Esau and Esau wrapped him up and clothed him and said I love you brother and God fixed that problem after that night in prayer and Jacob was never the same God said now you're no longer Jacob supplant or crook I'm calling Israel Prince in every case these people had to swallow their pride humbled themselves and then God gave them he couldn't give them enough just kept giving giving giving giving I'm almost finished be sure of this one thing no sand ruins more lives destroys more churches breaks the heart of
[41:37] God more and brought us on his best than self exalting pride and just about 100% of your problems in relationships because you've got elevated opinion for yourself that's why you hold that grudge because you're better than that person that's Lord I'm giving it to them man I hope I hope!
[42:09] the one we have to get it this is tough this is tough it's not easy to do what I'm saying man it's not easy I'm human I know how it is sometimes you just want to get back at it and you feel like you're justified because they are wrong you're right I know how it is boy I've just had to bite that old tongue and swallow and swallow and say I'm sorry sir I hurt you inside I'm saying I didn't hurt you like I wish I could we're all human aren't we backbiting and vengeance and envy and unkindness ill will and retaliation and criticism you know that you want that you can have or God fest for you but you can't have both you got to get in the dust brother you got to look at yourself it's the worst thing you ever can have and everybody around you must esteem better than you are and then
[43:26] God unlocks the door he said that Joe is where I was trying to get you all the time you were a great person but you had this pride problem and I had to fix it before I could bless you with 140 more years I had to fix that because God resists the proud he blessed the proud he blesses the hungry he blesses those who don't think they're such hot stuff you wish to be a friend to God like Abraham wish to be a man of God!
[44:03] Jacob special servant of God like Moses swallor your breath get along with everybody go to that person you don't think you like and say my friend I've had things against you and I've had wrong you're a better person than I am if you'll forgive me we'll be friends if we could get every church in the Lord's word every person to do that to power our God on churches which is being unclean the thing that's keeping our churches poor is bad relationships all the devil has to do is get somebody to say something about you that's not true and you just slow up like a frog that's all he has to do is just get somebody to treat you more and then you can hurt your church you think the Lord is going to bless you you are going to have a little kid one of these days with 105 and you are going to be begging
[45:07] God and he will say I'm sorry I can't hear you I'm telling you this is hard stuff here I'm telling you the truth the Lord resists the proud he doesn't help the proud I'm talking to somebody though the Lord is putting on me pretty hot heavy right now and I'm afraid he's talking to me I gotta go home take a look at the sermon and let you talk to me now look at our verse 10 again verse 10 in 42 the Lord turned the captivity to Job that means he healed and threw all the problems out when he prayed for his friends and I'll tell you exactly what he said fellas I mistreated you fellas I said some things to you that I shouldn't say you came all these miles over here to help me and I showed my appreciation about saying some mean things but God has shown me how wrong
