[0:00] I'm not sure that there is a better one-verse summary anywhere in the Bible of the earthly ministry of the Lord Jesus.

[0:17] Here in this one verse, Peter says it all. He tells us that Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Mary, at a specific point in his life when he was about 30 years old, was anointed by God with the Holy Spirit and with a remarkable power, as a consequence of which he went about doing good and healing people.

[0:48] That summary is given in the context of a sermon that Peter preaches in the home of Cornelius.

[1:01] It's actually one of the most important events in the Book of Acts. There are three events in the Book of Acts that are told us three times.

[1:13] So the story of Pentecost is told us three times in the Book of Acts. The conversion of Saul is told us three times in the Book of Acts.

[1:26] And what happened in the house of Cornelius is told us three times in the Book of Acts. And just for a moment, I want to underline why what happened in the house of Cornelius is so important.

[1:43] If you're familiar with the Book of Acts, you'll know that Cornelius was a Roman centurion. He was, according to the Bible, a devout man, a man who feared God, a man who, although he was a Gentile, respected the faith of the Jews and prayed to the God of the Jews.

[2:04] And we're told that an angel came to him and spoke to him. And he stared at him in terror, as you would, and said, what is it, Lord?

[2:20] And God told him that his prayers had been heard. And Cornelius was being sent by God 30 miles south to Joppa.

[2:31] And there, in Joppa, he would find the apostle Peter. Now, Peter was in Joppa because he was going everywhere preaching the gospel.

[2:42] And the narrative of Acts tells us that in Joppa, Peter, too, had had a vision. It was different to Cornelius' vision. It wasn't an angel that came to him.

[2:53] Peter was in a trance, and he saw the heavens opened. And he saw a net coming down, a great sheet descending, with all kinds of animals in it, clean animals and unclean animals.

[3:09] And he was told to kill and eat them. But Peter argued with God, as you might, and said to God, I can't eat anything that is common or unclean.

[3:22] But the voice said to him, what God has made clean, do not call common. So there you have it. Peter sees this remarkable vision in Joppa.

[3:36] Cornelius has his vision in his own household in Caesarea. And Cornelius has now to go and get Peter. And so he sends a group of men down to Joppa, three men to go to Joppa and speak to Peter and take him back to the household of Cornelius.

[3:55] And the book of Acts tells us that the significance of all of this is simply that this is the point at which it is gradually dawning on the apostles that the gospel, which up until now had largely, although not exclusively, been confined to the Jewish people, was breaking out and was going to be preached with blessing to the Gentiles.

[4:23] So in the house of Cornelius, when Peter begins to speak and begins to preach, he says, I understand now that God shows no partiality in every nation.

[4:37] Anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him. Up until this point, the Gentiles had been the unclean ones. But now God was saying that these distinctions were gone.

[4:52] And the gospel was coming now to be preached to the Gentiles with great power. And as Peter preaches this first gospel sermon in Gentile territory to a Gentile audience, the Holy Spirit came upon them in what some theologians call the Gentile Pentecost.

[5:14] The Holy Spirit came down in Jerusalem at Pentecost when Peter was preaching. Then in Acts chapter 8, the Holy Spirit came down in Samaria when Peter was preaching and many of the Samaritans believed.

[5:30] Now the Holy Spirit comes down in the household of Cornelius and many are filled with the Holy Spirit. And the gift of the Spirit is poured out on the Gentiles.

[5:42] If you're a careful reader of the New Testament, you'll realize that there is something very deep going on here. Because before he ascended into heaven, Jesus told his disciples to wait in Jerusalem so that they would receive the promise of the Spirit and power to enable them to be witnesses for him in Jerusalem and in Samaria and to the ends of the earth.

[6:09] And corresponding to that promise, there is a complex of related and unrepeatable events in which the Holy Spirit comes down upon them in Jerusalem and then in Samaria and then in Gentile territory and it's then going to go to the ends of the earth.

[6:32] You don't read the book of Acts and wait for the next Pentecost. You read the book of Acts to see what God's program is. The ascended Lord, he pours out the gift of his Holy Spirit upon the church.

[6:47] And just as he said, in Jerusalem and then in increasing circles into Samaritan country and then the final barrier into Gentile country, the gospel is going out and the Holy Spirit comes upon the Gentiles.

[7:02] And now all peoples that on earth do dwell, sing to the Lord with cheerful voice. And so here we are tonight, a congregation of Gentiles.

[7:19] And the gospel is preached to us. And I trust that it will be preached with Pentecostal blessing. Well, let's come to Peter's great sermon on this occasion.

[7:34] The word that he sent to Israel, says Peter, preaching good news of peace through Jesus Christ, you know. And Peter rehearses the most fundamental basic facts of the gospel.

[7:50] After the baptism of John came the ministry of Jesus. All carefully planned, according to God's timetable, in the unfolding of his redemptive purpose in the world, at a point in history, Jesus appeared.

[8:13] And for the greater part of his life, he lived in relative obscurity. We know next to nothing about these first 30 years of Jesus' life.

[8:25] But when he was 30, he appeared before John in the River Jordan. And many people were going to John. They were confessing their sins and repenting of their sins.

[8:39] They wanted to get rid of their sins. And suddenly there came one who had no sin. Wanting to take their sins on himself.

[8:50] To stand in the rivers of repentance, although he had no sin himself of which to repent. This Jesus, for 30 years, had done nothing wrong.

[9:01] There was no blemish on his character. There was not one sinful stain on his life. There was nothing he regretted. Nothing of which he had to repent. Nothing he had to confess before God.

[9:14] And suddenly he is identified with sinners, with sin-confessing, repentance-making, sin-hating people in the reverse of the Jordan.

[9:25] And he comes to be baptized by John. And it's going to be the commencement of his great ministry, in which he's going to deal with sin and with sinners.

[9:38] And as he stands there, with his robes dripping from the waters of the Jordan, suddenly a blessing comes down from heaven, the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove, and rests on him.

[9:53] And the voice from heaven says, This is my beloved son. Peter says, you know all this. And so too do you. You know all this. God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power.

[10:10] And from that moment on, he went about doing good. Healing those who were oppressed of the devil, because God was with him.

[10:21] It's not that God hadn't been with him up until that point. It's not that he hadn't been filled with the Spirit up until that point, because he had the Spirit without measure, says the Gospel of John.

[10:32] But at that point, at that point of inauguration, at that point of ordination, at the beginning of his public ministry, God anointed Jesus of Nazareth.

[10:43] And there is a whole Old Testament line of theology and interest poured into that statement. Because from earliest times, God asked that the holy things of his service, and the holy people of his service, should be anointed with oil.

[11:01] The tabernacle and all its implements. The functionaries of the tabernacle and its service. The priests, even the kings. They were all anointed with oil.

[11:12] And now Jesus is anointed. He receives the anointing. But it's not with oil. It's with the Holy Spirit, which the oil signified and typified to receive fresh power and fresh impetus for the calling to which he had called him.

[11:30] Anointing was always to service. And this Jesus, with all his potential, and all his maturity, and all his understanding, in his whole life, he's now being set apart.

[11:43] And God is publicly pointing to him and saying, Behold my servant, whom I uphold, my elect, in whom my soul delights, I have put my spirit upon him.

[11:56] And God is drawing your attention to Jesus through that act of anointing in the Jordan. It's actually one of the reasons why we must insist on the uniqueness of Christianity.

[12:10] I know that there are many religions in the world. I know that there are many teachers of religion in the world. I know that there are many sacred books in the world.

[12:22] I know that there are many figures in world history and religion and philosophy that people follow. And very often we're asked, Well, how do we know that our religion is the only way to God?

[12:32] I'll tell you how. Because God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He didn't anoint Muhammad. He didn't anoint Buddha.

[12:43] He didn't anoint Confucius. He didn't anoint Joseph Smith. He didn't anoint any other individual with the Holy Spirit and with power. But he did anoint Jesus of Nazareth.

[12:53] And he points him out to us in the act of anointing. We don't decide which religion suits us and will take us to heaven.

[13:06] God decides which religion can take us to heaven. And God comes to us in this great act of mercy and grace.

[13:17] And God says, I have anointed him. I've made him prophet, priest, and king. I've made him king over my Zion.

[13:30] I've made him the last word from heaven. The only word you need to hear. No other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.

[13:42] We don't determine the way to God. God determines the way to himself. And he points out that way to us by anointing his son with his spirit.

[13:58] Anointing means pointing. And God is pointing to Jesus. And he's saying to you tonight that there is no other way.

[14:09] Behold my servant. This is the one that I've sent into the word. To be the functionary of the covenant. The minister of the covenant. To do my bidding.

[14:20] I've chosen him. I've raised him out of the folk. And I've put my spirit upon him. He is my elect one. Listen to him.

[14:33] But there's something even deeper going on here. Isn't there? Because something remarkable happens with the appearance and the revelation of Jesus Christ.

[14:46] And it's to do with the very nature of God himself. Because in this text Peter is telling me what God did to Jesus.

[14:58] He anointed him. But with what did he anoint him? He anointed him with the Holy Spirit. So you look at this scene. This remarkable moment of anointing.

[15:11] What had been arranged in eternity. And predicted in history. Now actualized in the Jordan. In the experience of Jesus. And in that moment.

[15:24] There is not simply the anointing. And the setting apart. And the equipping of Jesus to be our savior. There is actually a disclosure. Of the very being.

[15:35] And nature of God. Such as never had been before. Who does the anointing? Who's the subject of the verb?

[15:46] God. God the Father does the anointing. He says this is my son. This is the father talking. And who's the object of the verb?

[15:56] Who's being anointed? Jesus of Nazareth is being anointed. That's a very human designation. Isn't it? That's the name of the baby. Who grew up in Nazareth.

[16:08] But this child is the son of God. Who can call God father. Naturally. Easily. Because he was in the beginning with him. So in heaven.

[16:20] There is a voice. That says this is my son. But we don't see who speaks. In the river. There's a person that we see. And hear. And then.

[16:31] With whom is he anointed? He's anointed with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit. Comes down in the form of a dove. We see him. But we don't hear him speak.

[16:43] But in this transaction. In the river Jordan. Father and son. And Holy Spirit. Together. Are at work for us. And for our salvation.

[16:56] I want you to see the glory of that tonight. That in the incarnation. Of the son of God. When Jesus Christ. Comes to be confined. To a human life.

[17:08] And the son of God. Is willingly. And voluntarily. Delimited. By our space. And our time. And our history. Suddenly.

[17:19] There is an enlargement. Of the vision. And revelation. Of God. Such as. Nobody has ever seen before. This God. Who was always hinting.

[17:30] In the Old Testament. That he was not just. Singular. But plural. Let us make man. In our image. One God. Speaking. With a plural voice.

[17:41] Always hinting. That there was more. To him. Than Old Testament. Monotheism. Could convey. Now suddenly. With the coming of Jesus. Reveals himself.

[17:52] As the triune. God. That he is. And everything. That God does. He does. As the triune. God. That he is. So this basic.

[18:03] Summary. Of the coming. Of Jesus. And the commencement. Of his ministry. Is actually taking us. To the very. Heart of the being. Of God. God. The father.

[18:14] Anointed. God. The son. Jesus of Nazareth. With the Holy Spirit. And with power. It's a triune act. This anointing. One.

[18:25] Party. One. Person. Of the Godhead. Announce. Another. Person. Of the Godhead. With the third person. Of the Godhead.

[18:35] And all. Willing to cooperate. As Jesus appears. And stands. There. Among sinners. In the rivers of Jordan. Now.

[18:46] I don't want to fly. On wings. Of theological fancy. Tonight. I want to ask. What's this all about? And I want to say. First of all. Isn't that telling you.

[18:58] What a serious thing. Sin. Is. Wasn't it for sin. This Jesus appeared. Isn't that why he bears the name.

[19:11] Call him. Jesus. He will save people. From their sins. Not just from hell. But from sin. Not just from.

[19:22] A lost eternity. But from the dominion. That sin has over them. He will save his people. From their sin. What does it take. To save me. From my sin. The whole weight.

[19:35] Of the testimony. Of scripture. Is that. I cannot. Save. Myself. If I try. If I make the attempt. I will fail.

[19:46] I will go under. The swellings. Of the Jordan. I cannot save myself. From my sin. It takes. The act. Of the triune. The triune.

[19:56] God. The three persons. Of the Godhead. Acting. Together. In absolute. Cooperation. With one another. It takes. That.

[20:07] To save me. From my sin. And it happens. God. Anointed. Jesus. Of Nazareth. With the spirit. And with power. And God.

[20:17] Was with Jesus. Of Nazareth. Everywhere he went. And in everything. That he did. And at the cross. God. Gave. Jesus. Of Nazareth. Didn't spare his son. Upheld him.

[20:28] By his holy spirit. Even at the point. Of crucifixion. So that there would be. Salvation. For me. God. Takes my sin. Far more seriously.

[20:38] Than I ever did. Or than I ever can. And reminds me. Tonight. That it's not just. By my effort. That I get to heaven. It's not by my effort.

[20:49] That I get to heaven. Not even. With the help of others. That I get to heaven. I need. All three persons. Of the eternal. Godhead. To work.

[21:00] Together. For my salvation. Speaking with the greatest. Reverence. It's not. Enough.

[21:11] That any one of them. Can do it. On his own. I know. That the father. Is all love. And God. Is all love. And everything.

[21:21] That is in God's love. Is there. In the father. But. That itself. Is not enough. To save me. Because. My sin. Offends. His righteousness. And his justice.

[21:32] And calls out. For death. Death. Death. That's what my. Sin. Deserves. My sins. Deserve. Eternal death. That's the absolute. Bottom line.

[21:43] Of. Of the bible's testimony. To my situation. And. Either. I must die. Or someone else. Must die. In my place. And God. God. Cannot die. But in the heart.

[21:55] Of the Godhead. There is a plan. And a purpose. That involves. Father. Son. And Holy Spirit. One person. Will come down. To earth. Upheld. By another. Sent by the father.

[22:07] Anointed by the son. Equipped. And upheld. So that. I might. Be saved. I'm just asking. Tonight. Do you take sin.

[22:18] That seriously. So as to realize. That it takes. The cooperation. Of the whole. Of the Godhead. Acting.

[22:29] Conjointly. In covenant. Agreement. As a confederacy. To come. And to deal. With your sin. Let the weight.

[22:39] Of that fact. Show you. The seriousness. Of sin. But. But you know. It shows me too. The wonder.

[22:50] Of grace. Because. It takes. The whole. Of the Godhead. To save a sinner. And. The glory is that.

[23:02] The whole. Of the Godhead. Is willing. To save sinners. The father. Is willing. To send the son. So loved.

[23:12] The world. That. He gave his son. Didn't spare him. Didn't keep him back. But delivered him up. For us all. That's the testimony.

[23:23] Of scripture. It's the grace of God. That brings salvation. Says the apostle Paul. And here. Is the grace. Of God. In its. Fullest. Expression.

[23:33] One person. Of the Godhead. Sending another. The second person. Of the Godhead. Willing to come. Into the world. The third person. Of the Godhead.

[23:44] Willing to be poured out. As a sacred. Anointing. Consecrating. Equipping. Oil. On the head. Of the son. So that I would be saved. You need the whole.

[23:55] Of the Godhead. To save you. And all. Of God. Is willing. To do so. There is nothing.

[24:06] Tonight. On the part. Of God. That is a reason. Why you are not. A Christian. There's nothing.

[24:17] On the part. Of the father. That is a reason. Why you are not. A Christian. Because he gave his son. And anointed him. And equipped him. For that very task.

[24:29] There's nothing. On the part. Of the son. Because he was willing. To take your nature. And stand beside you. In the river. And identify with you. And take your sins. To himself.

[24:39] Nothing on his part. He says. Come to me. Nothing on the part. Of this spirit. Who was willing. To be poured out. On the head of the son. If there is.

[24:50] Any reason. Why you are not. A Christian tonight. It's. With yourself. Because. This grace. Is willing. And able.

[25:01] To save. The seriousness. Of sin. It's here. And the fact. That God. Has to save. And him alone. In all the fullness. Of his divine being.

[25:11] The wonder. Of his grace. He is willing. To do it tonight. And the glorious. Sufficiency. Of his salvation. Don't you see it? Here it is. This is all. You need to know.

[25:22] God. Anointed. Jesus. Of Nazareth. With his spirit. It's. All there. By that spirit.

[25:34] He was. Upheld. Through that spirit. He offered himself. Without spot. To God. By the power. Of that spirit. He takes his life again. And triumphs. Over death.

[25:45] And what God. Was willing. To do for you. He has done. For you. In Christ. And tonight. You can lean. The whole weight. Of your soul.

[25:56] And its salvation. On what. The three in one. God. Has done. In God.

[26:07] Said the psalmist. The rock. Is. Of my strength. My refuge. Most secure.

[26:18] And I just. Want to know. Are you secure. In that rock. Tonight. It's the rock. Of ages.

[26:30] It doesn't change. With. The passing. Of the years. It's as dependable. Tonight. As ever. It was. Father. Son. And Holy Spirit.

[26:41] Working. For the salvation. Of sinners. What God did. To Jesus. But then. In this verse. Peter goes on.

[26:51] To talk about. What God did. Through Jesus. Not just what he did. To him. But what he did. Through him. Because. As a result. Of that. Empowering.

[27:02] Jesus. Went about. Doing good. And in particular. Healing those. Who were oppressed. By the devil. Because God.

[27:15] Was. With him. Let's just look at. These three things. Very very briefly. He went about. Doing good. That's the first thing. It's a marvelous statement. Isn't it?

[27:26] He got out of the Jordan. Equipped by the Holy Spirit. And he. Went about. Places. Well we read that. In Matthew. Didn't we? Decapolis. Of the Gentiles.

[27:36] And all these other places. That are mentioned there. He went into streets. And villages. And towns. And cities. He went about. And as this Jesus. Went about. He went about. As the great benefactor.

[27:47] Of the covenant. He went about. Doing good. Some people. Wanted to get rid of him. They couldn't see. The good that he was doing. Some people. Hated him.

[27:58] For the good. That he was doing. But he was always. Only ever. Doing good. Sometimes. He said difficult things. Sometimes. He did hard things. Sometimes.

[28:08] It was not easy. To listen to him. Or watch him. But he always. Just went about. Doing good. God had sent him. Into the world. To do good.

[28:19] The thief. Comes. To do bad. He says in John 10. Just to rob. To steal. To kill. To take away. I've come. I've come. So that they might have life. In all its abundance.

[28:31] And in all its fullness. He went about. Doing good. Just read the gospels. Look at how. One touch of his hand. Transformed. Homes and lives.

[28:42] They were never the same again. He was able to feed. The hungry. He was able to comfort. The lonely. He was able. To deliver. The oppressed. He went about.

[28:52] Doing good. And he still is. Oh I know. The devil is trying. To tell us. Tonight. That Jesus. Goes about. Doing harm. You don't want to know.

[29:04] Jesus. You don't want to be. A fundamentalist. Bible believing. Christian. Do you? That's the most harmful. Thing in the world. No, no, no, no, no. God says in the gospel. Tonight. Of my Jesus. He goes about.

[29:14] Doing good. Just ask any Christian. Here tonight. Since the moment. He started going about. In their life. And suddenly. Walked the streets. With them. And suddenly. Invaded their space.

[29:26] And came into their hearts. Has he not. My Christian friend. Been doing good. In your life. And even things. That were difficult. For you to bear.

[29:36] And difficult. For you to meet. And difficult. For you to cope with. You realize. That they came. From his hand. And were subject. To his. Sovereign control. And you believed.

[29:48] And believe. Now with all your heart. That all these things. Are working together. For your good. Because you would not. Trade. Your life. In the hands of Jesus.

[29:59] For a thousand words. You know. That he can only. Ever do you good. And you know. That his goodness. And mercy.

[30:09] Have followed you. All the days. Of your life. And you expect. That he will keep. Doing good. To you. And in you. To the very end.

[30:20] The problem is. As someone. Has said. That we. Only think. He's doing good. In us. If he does good. To us. We want good things.

[30:32] From him. Pleasant things. From him. We want the sun. To shine. On us. Always. We don't want. The wind to blow. Or the storm. To rise. We want to get things. From him.

[30:43] But he's saying to you. Tonight. Even when he takes things. From you. And even when his hand. Seems to be against you. And he meets you. Like he met with Jacob.

[30:55] Wrestling with you. All night long. He's still. Only. Ever. Doing you good. He was crucified. Says the Bible. Between two malefactors.

[31:08] He's the very opposite. Of a malefactor. You know what a malefactor is. Someone who does evil. He was the benefactor.

[31:19] He came to do good. And he still does. And the special good that he did. Was this.

[31:31] He went about healing. Those who were oppressed. With the devil. That's what the Bible says. Well you can read it.

[31:42] It was there in the account in Matthew. After coming out of the waters of the baptism. He went straight into the waters of conflict. And temptation. Assaulted by the devil.

[31:54] Immediately. Did he give in? Like Adam did in the garden? Not at all. He resisted. Until the devil ran out of arguments. And had to leave him. And then Jesus began his counter attack.

[32:08] And his counter offensive. He went about healing. He opened the eyes of the blind. And the mouth of the dumb. And the lame leapt like a heart.

[32:18] And the tongue of the dumb. Began to sing. And bruised reeds he didn't break. And smoking flaxes he didn't quench. Those who were oppressed by the devil.

[32:28] He healed. He touched. By his grace. He delivered. And you know that. You know says the Bible. Everyone who commits sin. Is the servant of sin.

[32:42] And has the devil as their father. He heals all such. He can break that power. That the devil has over you. It is his business. To translate sinners.

[32:53] Out of the kingdom of darkness. And into his own kingdom. Of glory. And light. And love. That's what he does. When he saves a soul.

[33:04] He heals. You from the tyranny. Of the devil. And then you go on. In the Christian life. And you meet. The devil. In so many different ways. In a thousand different disguises.

[33:15] Like a roaring lion. One day. Like an angel of light. The next. Come to you. Like he came. To Jesus. Quoting the Bible. The devil is a great Calvinist. All devils are Calvinists.

[33:28] Some Calvinists are devils. But all devils are Calvinists. They all believe. In the sovereignty of God. They all believe. In total depravity.

[33:38] They all believe. In unconditional election. Every devil. Is a five point Calvinist. Do you know that tonight? Every devil. Is a five point Calvinist. And can come.

[33:50] In all kinds of ways. And with all kinds of means. And all kinds of. Disguises. Just to trip you. Up in your Christian life. I give you Jesus.

[34:03] He heals. Those who are oppressed. By the devil. And tempted by the devil. And hounded by the devil. And when Satan wants. To sift you. Like wheat. And prove you weren't.

[34:14] A Christian at all. He comes to you. And says. I've prayed for you. Not that the devil. Won't go near you. But that your faith. Will not fail.

[34:27] Until at last. As the epistle to the Romans. Concludes. The God of peace. Will crush Satan. Under your feet. Shortly.

[34:39] So that's why. Your faith. Lifts up. Itself to him. The lamb of Calvary. Who goes about. Doing good. And delivering. And helping. And healing.

[34:49] And he's. Constantly. With his people. To the very end. Of the age. And he's a much.

[35:00] More faithful friend. To you. Than you have ever been. To him. And so tonight.

[35:13] All you say. As a Christian. Is. How. I love Jesus. Because he first. Loved me. And God.

[35:26] Was with him. God. Was with him. In him. Was all. The fullness. Of the Godhead. Everywhere he went.

[35:39] The fullness. Of the Godhead. That's why. Paul can say to you. As a Christian. Tonight. That if you are in him. You are. Absolutely. Complete. I nothing.

[35:51] Lack. If I am his. And he is mine. Forever. What are the things. You need. Tonight. To help you.

[36:01] To face this week. As a Christian. In your home. At your work. In your duty. As you go out. Wanting to live. For the Lord. And failing.

[36:11] So miserably. You need him. To provide. For you. You need him. To empower you. You need him. To be pleasant. With you. That says Peter.

[36:22] Is what. He is. About. He went about. Doing good. He makes. The provision. He heals. Those who are oppressed. By the devil. He gives you.

[36:32] His power. And the presence. Of God. Is with him. And in him. With you. So if you are a Christian. Tonight. You have absolutely.

[36:44] Everything. Because in him. You have been. Anointed to. And the holy oil. On the head. Of Jesus. Runs down.

[36:54] His beard. And. To the very. Hem. Of his garment. To. Us. To me. Says Paul.

[37:05] The least. Of the saints. I have. The anointing. In him. So there it is. There's the great.

[37:48] And he is still. Doing so. For his people. Who would not be a Christian. Tonight. This is the grandest. Thing. In the whole. World.

[38:00] That my salvation. Is entirely. Outside of myself. And God. In Christ. Has done it. All. And I am complete.

[38:11] If I am. In him. And tonight. As Peter says. In verse 43. Everyone.

[40:20] Where darkness is near. He brought you. Because you are with me. No evil I fear.

[40:32] Your rod and your staff. Bring me comfort and cheer. In the sight of my enemies.

[40:44] He's a table you spread. The oil of rejoicing. You pour on my head.

[40:56] My cup of earth. Loose and ungraciously fed. So surely your covenant.

[41:09] And mercy and grace. Will follow me closely. In all of my ways.

[41:21] I will dwell in the hearts of the Lord all my days. Amen. Our gracious God.

[41:32] You are the great provider for your people. We thank you that in the gospel you have made the greatest provision. And by giving your son you have shown us the extent of your love.

[41:44] We pray that you will continue your blessing upon us. And as we enjoy the gifts of your providence. Help us all the further to enjoy the gifts of your grace.

[41:55] Bless your word to us this evening. May grace, mercy and peace from God. Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Rest upon and remain with us all.

[42:06] Amen.
