The Books of Homilies are a collection of 16th century topical sermons, designed to communicate the "godly and wholesome doctrine" of the English Reformation to ordinary folks.
This is a lightly-adapted version of "An Homily of the Resurrection of Our Saviour Jesus Christ, for Easter Day" (Second Book of Homilies, XIV) written c. 1540 by the lay preacher and Bible translator Richard Taverner.
