[6:19] Thank you.

[6:49] This rectangular window or area of North Africa, the Middle East and Asia, approximately between 10 degrees north and 40 degrees north latitude is called the resistant belt, includes most of the world's Hindus, Muslims and Buddhists.

[7:03] Because of the large population in India and our love for this country, it will be the primary focal point of our ministry. The faces of the lost are everywhere, from the religious to the self-righteous and the ritualistic.

[7:29] They all believe in a works-based salvation. Ephesians 2, 8 and 9 reads, For by grace I is saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works, as any man should boast.

[7:41] Only 6% of the world's population lives in the United States. 94% live somewhere else in the world.

[7:54] As of now, India is the second most populated nation, but by 2100, India is projected to become the most populated nation on earth.

[8:08] 90% of the people living in the 1040 window are un-evangelized. Many have never heard the gospel message even once. Of the 68 countries in this window, 7 of the most populated countries are in Asia, China, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Japan and the Philippines.

[8:30] India is a land of many religions. 80.5% of the people are Hindu. India is also the home of more than 12% Muslims.

[8:43] one of the world's largest Muslim populations. The population also includes Christians, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists and Farsis, of which 2.3% are Christian.

[9:01] Catholics represent 2% of the Christian population. There is less than 0.2% Baptists and 0.1% Other.

[9:13] If these people are to be evangelized, we need more missionaries in these regions.

[9:25] John 3.16 says, For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

[9:41] God has given you an opportunity to hear, heed, and help these people. Will you make an eternal investment to help a missionary go?

[9:53] Will you pray and pay the price? Who will go to these people? Who will tell them of Jesus' love? Will you grapple with the possibility of becoming a missionary?

[10:07] Will you answer the call? Millions are crying for help. Can you hear their cry? Or will you let them die and go to a lost eternity?

[10:20] We are the Jacob family. Richard, Leah, Gideon, Emerald, and Marcus. God has called us to start Impact Ministries, to train and equip both pastors and church leaders in this window.

[10:36] 1 Timothy 1.12 And I thank Christ Jesus, our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry.

[10:48] With over 21 years of ministry experience, we believe God has equipped us to start this ministry. God, in his great mercy and goodness, has allowed me to serve him as an assistant pastor at the First Baptist Church of Long Beach, California.

[11:04] I've also served as a Sunday school director, Indian pastor, and taught in the Fundamental Baptist Bible Institute. Hello, I'm John Wilkerson, the pastor of the First Baptist Church of Long Beach, California.

[11:16] And I come to you on behalf of Richard and Leah Jacob, fine Christian people who are well-versed in the things of God, have a model example of testimony and temperament, have a wonderful marriage, three very godly children, and a call of God to go to India.

[11:36] I speak already five languages that are used there in that country. Have a pastor's heart and has been a pastor, start our Indian ministry here at First Baptist Church. God's called them to go, and I'd like to encourage you to consider investing into this precious couple.

[11:52] I believe the rewards will be eternal, and I believe that the fruit will be very significant. They're wonderful people. I do hope you'll consider supporting, encouraging, helping, and praying for this wonderful family.

[12:05] God bless you. Thank you. We will pray for the Jacob family. Pray that God will get them quickly to the field, and you'll be sure and shake their hand.

[12:17] Our next preacher is Brother Gary Ledford. Come on, Brother Ledford. Brother Ledford's pastor of University Baptist Church, and he is also with First Bible as a missionary, getting the Bible around the world.

[12:28] We love this guy. I've known him for a long time. Please pray for his ministry. Thank you, Brother Gardner. It's a joy to be here. I really believe that when I go into places like this, when the pulpit's higher than I am, they mean for me to preach short and sit down, and I think that's true today.

[12:45] And I want to get to the Word of God. I want you to follow along with us. If you'll take your Bibles this morning, turn with me, please, if you will, to the book of James chapter 2. Let me ask you a question while you're turning.

[12:55] Why do you do what you do? Why do you do in ministry what you do in ministry? Why do you do what you do as a missionary to try to go and reach people with the gospel of Jesus Christ?

[13:07] Why is it that you do what you do as a church in giving to world evangelism? Why? We'll say, well, they're lost. Yes, we know they're lost, and they're on their way to hell.

[13:19] Without Jesus Christ, they'll never see heaven. And we want them to hear the message, the gospel of Jesus Christ. But let me ask you, is that the real reason we give? Is that the real reason we do the ministry?

[13:32] Is that the real reason that we should be investing and being involved in world evangelism? I believe that we find the whole crux of the matter wrapped up for me in my life is found here in James chapter number 2.

[13:46] Look with me, if you will, in verse number 1. He says here, My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons. For there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring and goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment, and ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place, or say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit thou here under my footstool.

[14:12] Are ye not then partial in yourselves and become judges of evil thoughts? Hearken, my beloved brethren, hath not God chosen the poor of this world, rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?

[14:25] But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you and draw you before the judgment seats? Do they not blaspheme, underline this, that worthy name by the which ye are called?

[14:37] If ye fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself, ye do well. But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.

[14:48] Here, James writing to the Christians, to the believers, and he's giving them, he's reminding them of words and works of partiality. If we're honest, we all show favoritism from time to time.

[15:02] Just go to the grocery store. You pick your favorite foods, don't you? You leave things that you don't know about. Yeah, I'm not going to try that. That doesn't look like it would fit me.

[15:14] We look at the grocery, in the Walmart, and we go down the aisles, and we see people of different cultures all around us, and sometimes, we won't even bother to give them the time of day. When's the last time you looked at someone that didn't look like you, didn't smell like you, didn't talk like you?

[15:31] A smile. And just say, hey, God bless you. Have a great day. Not just to talk about trying to be a witness, but here's the thing.

[15:41] We get so involved in what we are, what we're all about, and we're so self-centered in our lives, so many times, that we look at everyone else around us, and we think, well, I don't have time for them.

[15:55] I don't have time for that group. In fact, today, in our society, in America, we really have built up a wall, in our nation, toward Muslims, toward terrorists. And, be honest with you, be honest with you, I don't like what they do.

[16:10] Can I say to you, God loves them. Christ died for them. And when I look at what we have here, our lives do not need to be reflective of the same mentality of those that show partiality, to those that would say, hey, you look better than I do.

[16:28] I think, better than this one over here. I think I'll just, I'll help you. Can I tell you this morning? When I look at verse number seven, and I think of those around the world that do not respect the name of Christ, do not want to honor his name, do not want to give him the bright position and proper place in his life that you and I have.

[16:59] When I think of that worthy name by the which ye are called, that's why we do it. I'll be honest with you, I don't love the Muslims. Can I be honest with you?

[17:12] I don't love other people groups. But I know God loves them. I'm talking about a name, a worthy name, by the which ye are called.

[17:24] When I think here for just a moment, I think about that worthy name that preempts partiality. He said there's words that, and works of partiality, but there's a warning against it.

[17:36] We show partiality. We're sinning against a holy God. To be prejudiced is to sin against a holy God. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth at Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

[17:54] God sent His Son to the world. That's every people group. Even the 6,000 that are yet unreached today with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Some 2,000 in India alone that have no word of Scripture in their birth language.

[18:09] Can I say to you, who am I to pick and choose? God's already chosen. The thing is, it's that worthy name by the which you and I are called.

[18:22] First of all, to salvation. The Bible tells us in Acts chapter 4, verse number 12, there's none other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved. There's one name, the name Jesus Christ.

[18:34] I'm glad I grew up where I grew up so that I could hear about the name of Jesus Christ. I'm blessed that I've been able to hear about a worthy name. He's worthy of my salvation.

[18:45] Can I tell you, I'm not worthy of His grace. But I sure am, I will say this, that He is worthy of me. He's worthy of you. He's worthy of the world.

[18:57] And I say to you this morning, well, one other thing, when I think about that worthy name, that name which is the strong tower, that name that is the rock of ages, that name that is the hope of glory, that name that is the gift of God, that name that is the fountain of life, that name that is the captain of the Lord's host, that name, that's above every name.

[19:16] And not only is there a name that's called me to salvation, but He's called me to separation and sanctification. I mean, He said, wherefore come ye out from among them and be ye separate, saith the Lord. We think about separation being from, but yet it's more than just being from, it's being to.

[19:33] Go back to Acts chapter 13, it says, separate me. Barnabas and Saul for the work which I called them to do. Separate me. I mean, set them apart. We're to be set apart unto the Lord.

[19:44] Paul said that he was separated unto the gospel. Separated unto the gospel. Why? Because of a worthy name that called Him.

[19:54] When I think about this name Jesus and this name that we are called by, when I think about Him, we're not only called for salvation and called by that name for sanctification and separation, but we're called by that name for service.

[20:10] I beseech you, therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. Hey, it's not a difficult service.

[20:22] It ought to be a joyful service. Can I tell you? If we look at the conditions around the world and we say, I don't think I'll go there because of the conditions, those people are going to miss out probably hearing about the gospel of Jesus Christ.

[20:36] If I look at the conflicts in parts of the world and say, well, I can't go there. We've listened to too much of the world say we can't when God said we can do all things through Christ to get the gospel to those people.

[20:50] Can I tell you? He's a name that is worthy of the worthless. That was me. Brother Jacob, you're not the worm. I'm the worm. Paul said, I thank God that He would save me.

[21:03] Aren't you glad He saved you? Aren't you glad that He wants you? Aren't you glad that He desires to have you in His service for His glory? He's worthy of our witness, isn't He?

[21:16] Just going across the street, just going to the next city, He's worthy of our witness, but He's worthy of the world. I think of Henry Martin, missionary to India.

[21:29] He wrote this. He said, when I sometimes offer up supplications with strong crying to God to bring down my spirit into the dust, I endeavor calmly to contemplate the infinite majesty of the Most High God and my own meanness and wickedness or else I quietly tell the Lord who knows the heart.

[21:45] I would give Him all the glory of everything if I could. But the most effectual way I've ever found is to leave away my thoughts from myself and my own concerns by praying for all my friends, for the church, the world, the nation, and especially by beseeching that God would glorify His own great name by converting all nations to the obedience of faith.

[22:06] Later, He said, what do I not owe to the Lord for permitting me to take part in a translation of His word? Never did I see such wonder and wisdom and love in the blessed book as since I have been obliged to study every expression, employed a good while at night and considering a difficult passage and being much enlightened and respecting it, I went to bed full of astonishment at the wonder of God's word.

[22:29] Never did I see anything of the beauty of the language and the importance of the thoughts as I do now. What a source of perpetual delight have I in the precious word of God. Can I say to you, they need the word.

[22:41] Revelation 5, 8 through 10, and when He had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps and golden vials full of odors, which are the prayers of the saints, and they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book and open the seals thereof, for Thou was slain and hast redeemed us to God by Thy blood out of every kindred and tongue and people and nation and has made us unto our God kings and priests, and we shall reign on the earth.

[23:10] We are king makers because of that worthy name by the which we are called. God bless you. Brother Randy Starwalt has been our speaker all week long, and I'm excited to know him and to know his ministry, and you're going to be blessed now as he preaches to us.

[23:30] Well, this has certainly been a great time for us, and it's been a good break. Phyllis is packing up the house, and she's got about 80% of it packed up, so we go back this afternoon, and tomorrow we finish, and we will put all of the, everything into storage, and off we go again.

[23:55] 1 Samuel, please. Chapter 30, verse 21. My wife would like me to talk as fast as everybody else talks here, and then I'd get down a whole lot faster, and then she'd be able to go home a whole lot faster, and she'd just be awful pleased about that, but I have a hard time doing that.

[24:15] I love you guys. I really do. Man, I, the way they just get up here, and preachers got them down, and I mean, they don't move. They just, and it goes on, and that's great.

[24:27] I don't know. Phyllis said, why, she asked me this morning, why can't you do that? I said, my brain can't keep up with my tongue if I went that fast. I really couldn't. Verse number 21.

[24:40] Let me set just a little bit of background. David is in, is in the land of the Philistines. This is his second trip actually to be in the land of the Philistines.

[24:55] The first time didn't go so well. The first time he went down into the land of the Philistines after Saul had begun his, begun to, with a plan to kill David, David ran down into the land of the Philistines.

[25:15] And when he got there and he got to the palace of Achish, the king, he got afraid. The people began to say, is this not David?

[25:29] Is this not the king of Israel? Boy, it was interesting, wasn't it? Jonathan knew that David was going to be the next king. The people of the, the Philistines knew that David was going to be the next king.

[25:46] And they said, is this not David that they, that they, that the, that the women and the children sang about? Saul has killed his thousands.

[25:57] David has killed his ten thousands. Is that not who this is? And when King Achish came out, David begins to think about these things and instead of trusting the Lord, David begins to pretend that he is a madman, a crazy man.

[26:17] He lets spit run down his beard. He began to claw at the door, at the gate of the, of, of the palace of Achish.

[26:28] And Achish looked at him and said, what are you troubling me about? Look at this man. That was David's first journey. Now David has returned to the land of the Philistine.

[26:43] He's returned with 600 men. They began to gather around David. I believe some of them believed that David would be the next king. And some of them who came around were, were men who were wanted men in the nation of Israel.

[26:59] Israel. They were, they were not always men. They weren't all spiritual men, but they were men that gathered around David that David was able, was going to be able to use at this particular time.

[27:13] When they went down to the land of the Philistines a second time with 600 men, now King Achish is going to give them a place to live, a place called Ziglag.

[27:27] Ziglag had belonged to the nation of Israel. It had belonged to Israel at one time. It had, it had been of the, of the tribe of Judah and then the tribe of Simeon had taken possession of this city.

[27:46] Now it's in the hands of the Philistines. David was there for one year and four months. Now, during this time that he was living there, he needed to pay tribute to Achish.

[28:03] Now that would be, that would be the custom of the day and so he was to pay tribute. And in that tribute they would go and raid villages and, and, and gather sheep and cows and, and goats and, and possessions and any gold or silver that might, that they might be able to possess.

[28:25] And part of that would be taken to Achish as tribute. Because David was living on the border of the land of Judah, Achish believed that, that David was raiding the nation of Israel.

[28:42] But he was actually raiding the Gishorites then and, and, and, and, let's see, the Gishorites and the Gizarites and the Amalekites.

[28:54] That's who they were raiding. Now, Achish and Saul, they've been going back and forth for some years now. Back and forth and back and forth.

[29:06] And so Achish has decided now time's come to end this. We're going to have the war of all wars, the battle of all battles. Kind of sounds familiar.

[29:18] But Achish says this is what we're going to do. He calls all the princes of the land of the Philistines. These men are just as princes. They, they're really men that have gathered together armies just like David.

[29:36] And he calls them to come and they're going to, they're going to gather a full army together and they're going to go up against Saul.

[29:47] David and his men go up to be with them. I've always thought this is interesting because if you read through 1 Samuel, you see again and again and again where David inquires of the Lord.

[30:06] David inquires of the Lord. David inquires of the Lord. all through the book of 1 Samuel, you find that term again and again and again.

[30:18] The sadness is as David and the 600 go up to meet with King Achish of the Philistines, it says nothing about David inquiring of the Lord.

[30:32] Now, maybe I'm reading something in the scripture, but it's just a thought for me. It's something I think about. It's not found. When they arrive, there's a great military passing by.

[30:46] I mean, each one of these warlords, and that's what they were, with their army, they come marching past. And the next prince of the Philistines, the warlord with his army, and they come marching past.

[31:01] And each group after group after group come marching past. Then David and his 600 men come marching past, and behind David and the 600 men was Achish.

[31:19] Now, what Achish was doing was showing that his trust in David, because the men that you put, the men that are closest to you in the march by, those are the men that are going to be the closest to you in the battle.

[31:33] These were the men that were to protect Achish. And David had his 600, or Achish had his 600 men, and David right in front of him.

[31:49] Achish was trying to show, I trust this man. I trust him even with my own life. I trust him. I think Achish knew a little bit about what was going to happen.

[32:00] because when all the princes come together and they all begin to discuss, that when they see David coming in, they're saying, what in the world is going on?

[32:12] What is he doing here? Why is he here? Achish tries to show that David is a faithful man, that he's been paying tribute, that he's a good man?

[32:29] They don't buy it. And so they send David home. They traveled 50 miles. It would probably take them three days.

[32:40] They're in full military gear. I mean, they took their swords, they took their shields. If they had some armor, they took that armor with them. They were going to battle.

[32:51] They thought when they were called up, they were ready to go into battle. So they marched back to Ziglag. The Amalekites at the time, as all of the princes of the Philistines are now, all the warlords, they're all now gathering in one place.

[33:15] You got these sneaky little Amalekites. This is my chance. I mean, city after city after city after city is unprotected. And they begin to raid.

[33:29] They take a city and another city and another city and another city. Now, how do I know that? Read in just a moment. They gather a huge amount of booty, a huge amount of food and silver and gold and livestock.

[33:49] So they were doing a lot of raiding. And one of the cities they raided was zigzag. They took everything that was in it. It's unprotected.

[33:59] It's unguarded. They took everything that was in it. Everything. Even the wives and the children of David and the 600 men.

[34:13] And when they return back to zigzag, they see that the city has been burned. They see that everything has been taken. They realize it's the Amalekites that have done it.

[34:24] And now there were certain men that were with David who now said, it's your fault. You led us away.

[34:34] You took us up to Achish. You left zigzag unprotected. And now they're saying they wanted to kill him. But isn't it always a good time to pray?

[34:47] Isn't it always a good time to pray? Folks, it shows nothing that he prayed before, but now he prays.

[35:03] And I'm not condemning David over this because we, every one of us, have done it. Every one of us have ventured out into something.

[35:15] We made a great plan. We had a good idea and we ventured out and we didn't take it before the Lord. We were confident in ourselves and confident that this would work and confident that we could do it.

[35:31] Then when it begins to fall apart, we begin to pray. We begin to pray and that's what David did. David began to pray and God began to strengthen his heart.

[35:44] God began to renew his heart. Then David did something else. David asked the Lord, should I go after the Amalekites? Should I go?

[35:55] And God said, go. The 600, they'd been three days marched. I mean, they'd already marched all the way up to be with Achish.

[36:08] Now they've turned around and marched all the way back. They're tired. And now they're doing double time. I mean, they're moving as fast as they can go.

[36:21] You can imagine. Everything they own. But even more important than that, their whole family is at stake here. And they start after the Amalekites and they go as quickly as they can.

[36:34] And when they reach the brook Bezor, there were 200 men who could go no further. They were so exhausted.

[36:45] They've been marching for days now. They've been marching up to get ready for battle. They marched back to Ziglag. Now they're in a full march to catch the Amalekites.

[36:58] And when they reach the brook Bezor, they could go no further. No further. So David unloads everything that they have and leaves with them except what they needed for a battle.

[37:16] Now certainly they had to carry food and they had to carry these things as they went to meet Achish. And truly they needed them again as they followed after the Amalekites.

[37:29] But now they leave everything with these 200, 400 cross over the brook Bezor. They're able to catch the Amalekites.

[37:39] A battle takes place. They're able to defeat the Amalekites. 100 young men jump on camels and get away and that's it.

[37:50] Everyone else of the Amalekites were killed. They have all of the treasure of Ziglag returned but they have much more than that.

[38:02] Look at verse number 21. And David came to the 200 the men that were left at the brook Bezor which were so faint that they could not follow David whom they had made also to abide at the brook Bezor and they went forth to meet David and to meet the people that were with him and when David came near to the people he saluted them.

[38:28] He greeted them. then answered all the wicked men of Bilal and those that went with David and said because they went not with us we will not give them aught of the spoils that we have recovered save to every man his wife and his children that they may lead them away and depart then said David ye shall not do so my brethren and with that which the Lord hath given us who hath preserved us and delivered the company that came against us into our land and for who will hearken unto you in this manner but as his part is that goeth down to the battle so shall his part be that tarrieth by the stuff they shall part alike and it was so forth from that day forward that he made a statue a law and an ordinance for Israel unto this day they came back and these wicked men of

[39:39] Belial these are the same men that wanted to kill David and they when they returned to the 200 who had stayed by the stuff they had guarded the rest of the possessions they guarded the grain they had guarded everything of the possessions that were left that they had been carrying they guarded that while the 400 went across the brook went on to catch up with the Malachite and now they say uh-uh those who stayed behind they don't get anything we give them their wife and their children and that's it no more no more nothing and David said no David said no no for you will not hearken unto you in this matter for his part is is that goeth down to battle so shall be his part that tarrieth by the stuff missions is a joint adventure beloved and the rewards are joined among all who participate those who go down into battle those who go to the foreign fields and will battle all of the elements that need to be to win people to the

[41:07] Lord Jesus Christ and those who stay by the stuff shall share alike those who stay by the stuff they share alike there is no difference beloved missions is missions whether it's on the giving in whether it's on the praying in whether it's on the going in it doesn't make any difference missions is missions you participate in missions with your prayer bands you participate in missions with your offerings you participate in missions by sending forth missionaries you participate in missions by supporting missionaries and it's all together it makes no difference we share and share alike we share and share alike there is no difference between you you who stay at home and pray and give than he that goes into battle there is no difference between us there is no difference between us we share and share alike if there are any rewards that will be handed out in the final day we will share them equally there will not be more rewards for the missionaries who have gone to the field than there will be for the people who have stayed by the stuff there will be no difference if there is an accounting of awards for people who have been won to

[42:52] Christ it will not go to one account it will go to each account who has prayed who has given who has sent who has gone gone they will all be the same there will be no distinction of any kind between the rewards that are given none those who went into battle will receive the same reward as those who stayed by the stuff let's pray father thank you again what a great time we've had father father i pray for all these young missionaries they're at the most difficult time of their ministry and that's raising support father i pray that you encourage them it's hard it's hard i pray father because i know there will be some who will hurt them along the way there will be some missionaries who will snob them because they're the young ones we're the old ones there'll be some pastors who overlook them because because they're looking at someone else or another missionary or they're looking at paying much attention to the main speaker than they are to them father i just pray that that that that they're encouraged that they're encouraged that they never take their eyes off of you and when they get discouraged they always remember i do this for the gospel sake nothing else matters nothing else matters i do this for the gospel sake and then father i pray for us i pray that we'd be what we need to be to be people of encouragement as church members to encourage when they meet young missionaries that they encourage them and speak to them and go to them so that they feel welcome and they feel encouraged i pray for us as missionaries that we do the same i pray that for pastors that they do the same and then father i pray for this church the battle goes on and there are many people in this church who are participating in the battle there are those going to the front lines there are those that are staying by the stuff and when this battle is over the rewards will be the same and so father bless this church bless their giving bless their praying bless their going i pray this in jesus name amen thank you for listening to the recordings of our 2012 witness missions conference for more information log on to www.visionbaptist.com
