"Which church do you go to? or "Do you go to church?" These are questions we quite often ask someone and usually we mean the congregation they attend or don't attend as the case may be.
Our verse at the top of the page tells of a vision the Apostle John had and it included a' picture' of the great Church of Jesus Christ. We find that the one Church is made up of individual churches (or what we would call congregations).
Each congregation is a small but true picture of the one great universal Church of our Lord. At least that is how it should be.
In chapters 2 and 3 of the Book of Revelation we find letters from Jesus to seven churches (congregations) and they show us how easy it is for a congregation to develop practices which are not really showing what the true Church is like. Or perhaps the congregations fail to do what they should be doing to show the world a true picture of Christ's great Church.
This should make us look seriously at our congregations to see if they are true to Christ's picture of his Church where his word is believed and practised where his people love each other and where the Gospel is proclaimed so that seeking sinners are pointed to the Saviour. Jesus holds us to account.
Dear Lord, help us to be true members of your Church. Amen.
