Passage

Description

A person's character is very important; it tells us what someone is really like. Can you trust him/her? Is he a person who always keeps his promises? All of that is very important.

The Apostle Paul tells us that God's character — what God is really like — is the very reason we can trust him to help us in every situation. And we know he has put us there for a purpose "We can trust God because he is completely dependable. If he said it, he'll do it." (The Message)

Paul was writing to Christians who lived in a city where it was not easy to live a holy and pure Christian life. But that was, and that is, the kind of life God looks for in his followers. Yes, it is hard, but we can depend on God to help us to be godly people in an ungodly world. God expects us to be faithful to him, and he has promised to be faithful to us, utterly dependable, to give us the courage, the strength, the love and the endurance to live and witness for him. John Calvin said: "God is always like himself". That means he is always faithful. 'If he said it, he'll do it'! He will help us - 'Our faithful, unchangeable friend, whose love is as great as his power, and knows neither measure nor end.' J Hart.

Prayer

Lord, help me to depend on you daily, knowing that you are dependable always. Amen.
