Passage

Description

One of the hymns we sing in church is a good commentary on that verse. The first verse goes like this:

"When I fear my faith will fail, Christ will hold me fast; When the tempter would prevail He will hold me fast. I could never keep my hold through life's fearful path; For my love is often cold; He will hold me fast."

It is a great encouragement for us as Christians to know the truth in these words because there are times when life can be difficult and we do honestly wonder how we can keep going, keeping trusting that God will help us cope with things.

Verse 2 of the hymn helps to explain the text even more:

"Those he saves are his delight, Christ will hold me fast: Precious in his holy sight, He will hold me fast; He'll not let my soul be lost; His promises shall last, Bought by him at such a cost. He will hold me fast." (Ada Habershon)

Someone has written: "Security is not the absence of danger, but the presence of God, no matter what the danger." The everlasting arms of God under us will indeed hold us fast.

Prayer

Dear Lord, how good it is to know you are our secure refuge for always. Amen.
