Passage

Description

You may remember (or not!) on the 29th of last month we thought briefly about the Trinity — the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit. Today let's think specially about the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is a real person, although we cannot see him with our eyes. He is equal in power and in glory with both God the Father and Jesus Christ who is God the Son. And the Holy Spirit has a very specific and a very vital work to do on behalf of the Lord Jesus. He is to be 'like Jesus' in the world now that Jesus is in heaven. The Holy Spirit is called the Spirit of Truth because he is the One who tells us all that Jesus wants us to know. The Spirit opens our hearts to receive God's truth and he then helps us to trust in Jesus for salvation and to live in ways that bring honour to him.

The Holy Spirit came in power at Pentecost (as we can read in Acts chapter 2) and he has been actively building up the church of Jesus Christ ever since that time. He lives in the life of every true Christian — we are like 'temples' of the Holy Spirit — which means we ought to think seriously about how we live, think and speak. It is the Holy Spirit who gives gifts (abilities) to Christians to serve him in different ways. His work is to shape us carefully so that one day we too will be just like Jesus.

Prayer

Dear Lord, thank you for the Holy Spirit. I pray he may make me more and more like Jesus too. Amen.
