C.S. Lewis captures the narrative arc of the gospel story powerfully in the Chronicles of Narnia. Narnia is an enchanted land, overflowing with life and beauty that Aslan its creator has sung into existence. When the four Pevensie children arrive in Narnia through a magical wardrobe they learn that it has been cursed so that it is always winter and never Christmas. As they toil and struggle under the terrible reign of the White Witch, faithful Narnians cling to this hope:
Wrong will be right, when Aslan comes in sight,
At the sound of his roar, sorrows will be no more,
When he bares his teeth, winter meets its death,
And when he shakes his mane, we shall have spring again.
But, none of them can imagine the lengths that Aslan would go to to break the witch’s curse and bring them into the new life and joy of his springtime.
Lewis’ story has captivated children and adults for generations because it echoes God’s redemptive story. This is the true story of a beautiful world gripped by a terrible curse that is freed by an infinitely more powerful and loving King. This summer, we will gather with all the generations in our Church family to hear this story from Scripture.
