Understand unlisted content
Keep selected content out of normal discovery while allowing specific direct pages to remain available.
Unlisted content has no password and no access check. Anyone with a working direct link can open it, and links get forwarded, logged, and indexed once another site exposes them. Do not use Unlisted for confidential or restricted recordings.
Mark content as unlisted
- Open a sermon, series, or preacher in the management area.
- Scroll to Advanced.
- Select Unlisted.
- Select Save Changes.
The management lists still show the item and explain why the affected sermons are hidden. Copy its direct public link before you share an unlisted item.
Unlisted sermon behaviour
A published unlisted sermon:
- does not appear in the main sermon list, public search, filters, Bible browsing, related sermons, or the usual custom home page collections
- does not appear in the main, series, preacher, or playlist RSS feeds
- does not appear in list, latest, playlist, or other collection embeds
- is not available through its single-sermon embed
- is still available at its direct public sermon URL
- still shows its artwork, audio or video, attachments, and transcript on that direct page
Direct media and attachment links also keep working for anyone who has them. Unlisted changes what people can find, not what they can open.
Unlisted series behaviour
An unlisted series:
- does not appear on the public series list
- hides its sermons from the main sermon list, search, filters, feeds, and embeds
- is not available through its series embed
- is still available at the direct series URL
- still shows the series details, artwork, attachments, and its sermons on that page
A sermon's own direct URL normally still works when only its series is unlisted, unless another visibility rule blocks it.
Unlisted preacher behaviour
An unlisted preacher:
- does not appear on the public preacher list
- hides every sermon assigned to that preacher from the main list, search, filters, feeds, and embeds, even sermons that also have a listed preacher
- is not available through the preacher embed
- is still available at the direct preacher URL, which lists the profile and their sermons
A sermon's own direct URL still works when only its preacher is unlisted. Unlisting a preacher takes their sermons out of the public lists, but it never makes an individual sermon page unavailable. The sermon's own status still applies, so it stays unavailable while it is an unpublished draft or dated in the future.
Artwork and attachment reference
Artwork on a working direct page stays visible, and any attachment linked from that page stays downloadable. Taking an item out of the public lists does not revoke media URLs you have already shared.
Basic details of an unlisted sermon can also still reach anyone using our public API, though its attachments are withheld. None of this makes an unlisted page private storage.
How unlisted differs from other controls
| Control | Main public lists | Direct public page | RSS and embeds | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Unlisted sermon | Hidden | Available | Hidden | Share by direct page without normal discovery. |
| Unpublished draft | Hidden | Unavailable | Hidden | Keep work private to managers until publication. |
| Published with a future Date | Hidden until the date | Unavailable until the date | Hidden until the date | Delay all public availability to a day. |
| Scheduled Publish Time | Hidden until publication runs | Unavailable until publication runs | Hidden until publication runs | Publish at a more precise future time. |
| Disable RSS Feed on a series or preacher | Still listed | Available | Disables only that item-specific feed | Stop one scoped subscription without hiding pages. |
| Meeting Type hidden from feed | Still available on the normal website | Available | Excluded from feeds and collection embeds | Keep a meeting's sermons on the site but out of syndication. |
| Lock: only admins can edit | No visibility change | No visibility change | No visibility change | Restrict management edits, not listener access. |
| Make your pages semi-private | Still available | Available | Still available | Ask search engines not to index the church's pages. |
If a sermon should not be reachable at all, unpublish it rather than unlisting it. If a media URL you have already shared needs to stop working, delete the content or email us at admin@yetanothersermon.host.
Search-engine setting
An Admin can go to Settings > Tweaks and turn on Make your pages semi-private, which asks search engines to ignore the church's public pages.
It applies to the whole public site, not just unlisted content, and it is only a request. Search engines may take a while to act on it, and it is not access control.
Make content listed again
- Open the sermon, series, or preacher.
- Clear Unlisted.
- Select Save Changes.
- Check the item and affected sermons in Public View, search, the feed, and any embeds.
A sermon stays hidden if something above it is still unlisted. Clearing the sermon's own setting is not enough when its series or one of its preachers is unlisted too.
