Change the Bible version for passage links

Choose which Bible translation opens when a listener follows a passage link from a sermon.

Set the church-wide default

  1. Go to Settings > General, or open general settings directly.
  2. Find Bible version.
  3. Choose the translation your church normally uses.
  4. Select Save Settings.
General settings with the church-wide Bible version set to ESV and a Save Settings button

You can choose from:

  • ESV
  • NIV
  • KJV
  • Schlachter 2000
  • NIVUK
  • The Message
  • Christian Standard Bible
  • New KJV
  • New Living Translation
  • Legacy Standard Bible
  • NASB 1995 Edition

The saved version becomes the default for every sermon that does not have its own override. If the translation your church uses is missing, email us at admin@yetanothersermon.host and we will look at adding it.

Override the version for one sermon

Use an override when one sermon quotes a different translation from your usual one.

  1. Go to Sermons and open the sermon.
  2. Scroll to Advanced.
  3. Under Bible Version, choose the version for this sermon.
  4. Select Save Changes.

Choose --- to remove the override and return to the church-wide default.

What listeners see

Passages are shown as references such as John 3:16-21. When a listener selects one, it opens that passage on Bible Gateway using:

  1. the sermon's Bible Version override, if it has one
  2. the church-wide Bible version otherwise

Changing the version does not rewrite the reference or add Bible text to the sermon. It only changes which translation the link asks Bible Gateway for, and it applies to existing passage links as well as new ones.
