Change sermon, preacher, series, and playlist labels

Use terminology that fits your church, such as Messages, Speakers, Courses, or Collections.

Only an Admin can change labels.

Set custom labels

  1. Go to Settings > Labels, or open label settings directly.
  2. Enter a singular and plural label for any term you want to replace:
    • Sermon label and Sermon label plural
    • Preacher label and Preacher label plural
    • Series label and Series label plural
    • Playlist label and Playlist label plural
  3. Leave both fields blank for any term that should keep its default.
  4. Select Save Settings.
  5. Reload the management area and Public View to check the wording in context.
Label settings filled with Message, Speaker, Course, and Collection singular and plural terms

Enter the plural yourself when adding s is not correct. If you leave the plural blank, the singular is reused unchanged when it already ends in s, and otherwise gets an s.

For example:

DefaultExample singularExample plural
SermonMessageMessages
PreacherSpeakerSpeakers
SeriesCourseCourses
PlaylistCollectionCollections

Keep labels short enough to fit menus, buttons, tables, and mobile screens.

Where the new labels appear

Custom labels are used throughout management views, including:

  • side navigation and New buttons
  • dashboard headings and shortcuts
  • sermon, preacher, series, and playlist editors
  • search, filters, tables, analytics, tags, and image management
  • embed controls and players
  • the menu and custom home page builders

They also appear in public navigation, list headings, filters, page metadata, podcast feed descriptions, and labels beside sermon information.

A label renames the content type, not the individual items. Changing Series to Course does not rename a series called “The Gospel of Grace”.

What labels do not change

Custom labels do not change:

  • public or management URL paths, which can still contain words such as sermons, series, or preachers
  • RSS and embed addresses
  • provider terms such as podcast, show, or episode in Apple Podcasts and Spotify
  • unrelated areas such as Meeting Types, Tags, Transcriptions, and Images
  • how sermons, preachers, series, and playlists actually behave

Links and existing embeds keep working after a label change, so there is no need to edit their URLs to match the new wording.

Return to the default labels

  1. Go to Settings > Labels.
  2. Clear both the singular and plural fields for the content type.
  3. Select Save Settings.

The defaults are Sermon/Sermons, Preacher/Preachers, Series/Series, and Playlist/Playlists.

If this did not work

  • You cannot open Labels settings: Only an Admin can change them, so ask one of your church's Admins.
  • The plural looks wrong: Enter the full plural instead of relying on automatic s handling.
  • One page still uses the old wording: Reload the page. If the wording is from Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or another provider, that external terminology is not controlled by labels.
  • A link contains the old term: That is expected, because labels do not change URLs.
  • Text is cut off in navigation: Use a shorter label and test both desktop and mobile views.
