Build a custom home page
Replace the standard sermon-list landing page with a flexible introduction, featured content, and selected collections.
Only an Admin can enable the feature and sees Custom Home Page in the management navigation.
Enable the custom home page
- Go to Settings > Tweaks, or open the tweaks settings directly.
- Turn on Enable Custom Home Page.
- Select Save Settings.
- Open the new Custom Home Page item in the management menu.
Once you publish some content, your public home page uses the page builder instead of the standard sermon list. Your sermon, series, preacher, playlist, and Bible pages are unaffected.
Understand the editor
The editor has three main areas:
- The block toolbar adds or lets you drag new content.
- Content Editor arranges and configures blocks.
- Live Preview shows the draft a few moments after each change on a wide desktop screen.
The preview is private. Editing and previewing do not change the public page until you publish.
Use Display All Sermons to decide whether the normal sermon list appears below the custom blocks.
Choose blocks
The toolbar provides these blocks:
| Block | What it displays |
|---|---|
| Image | An uploaded image or an image selected from the gallery. |
| Content | Free-form Markdown, such as an introduction, links, or service information. |
| Heading | A section heading, with an option to centre it. |
| Divider | A horizontal separator. |
| Two Columns | Left and right containers for other supported blocks. |
| Preacher under Recent Sermon | The latest visible sermon from one selected preacher. |
| Series under Recent Sermon | The latest visible sermon from one selected series. |
| Meeting under Recent Sermon | The latest visible sermon from one selected meeting type. |
| Playlist | A selected playlist and up to ten visible sermons. The label follows your custom playlist label. |
| Sermon | One selected sermon. |
| Series under Other | A horizontal list of recently active series. |
To add a block, select it to insert it at the top or drag it to a drop zone. Select the edit icon on a block to configure it. Use the handle and arrow controls to reorder it, and the red bin to remove it.
Build a two-column section
Select Two Columns, then drag supported blocks into Left Column and Right Column.
You cannot put a Two Columns block inside another Two Columns block. Every other block works in either column.
On smaller screens, the columns stack into one column with the left side first, then the right side. Check that this reading order still makes sense on mobile.
Save and publish
Saving and publishing are separate actions:
- Arrange and configure the blocks while checking Live Preview.
- Select Save Changes to store the draft and create or update its revision.
- Review the saved draft.
- Select Publish Now to make that revision the public home page.
- Open Public View and test it on desktop and mobile.
The status banner stays until the blocks in the editor match the published revision.
Use revision history
Select Revision History to see saved versions. You can:
- Preview an older revision without changing the public page
- identify the revision marked Published
- select Publish on another revision to restore it publicly
Publishing an older revision does not delete newer drafts, so you can return to them later.
When referenced content changes or disappears
Blocks look up their content each time the public page loads:
- A deleted image, playlist, or specific sermon is skipped rather than breaking the page.
- A specific sermon that is unpublished, scheduled for the future, or unlisted does not appear publicly.
- A recent-sermon block shows the newest visible match. If none exists, the block renders no sermon.
- A playlist with no visible sermons remains a playlist block but shows that it has no sermons.
- Recent Series includes only series with qualifying sermon activity.
A block stays in the saved revision even when the item it points to is gone. Remove or replace empty blocks in the editor, save, and publish again so listeners do not see unexplained gaps.
If this did not work
- Custom Home Page is missing: An Admin must enable it under Settings > Tweaks and save.
- Live Preview is missing: It is hidden on narrower management screens. Use a wider desktop window or save and use revision preview.
- The preview changed but the public site did not: Select Save Changes, then Publish Now. Previewing on its own does not publish anything.
- A block is blank: Check that its image or content still exists and that referenced sermons are published and visible.
- Two Columns will not drop inside another Two Columns block: Nested two-column layouts are not supported.
- The mobile order looks wrong: Move the content that should be read first into the left column.
